- You guys! I watched so many of your WHW videos in the year I spent prepping for this trip. They were all wonderful and I found many helpful. I am SO DELIGHTED to have a West Highland Way video of my own to contribute to the pile. It is not fancy or complicated. But it is a very dear record of my time spent wandering the highland as a 35 year old American solo-hiker. And maybe most unusually, I DID NOT start in Milngavie but in Glasgow using the Kelvin Way and taking an additional 10 miles onto the trip. What a gift to walk.
0:54 The Kelvin Way
2:03 The end of Day One
2:56 Milngavie to Drymen
7:54 Drymen to Rowardennan
8:50 Conic Hill
11:40 Rowardennan to Inverarnan
16:53 Inverarnan to Tyndrum
19:50 Tyndrum to Inverornan
22:08 Inverornan to Kingshouse
26:18 Kingshouse to Kinlochleven
27:51 The Devil's Staircase
29:52 Kinlochleven
33:05 Getting into Fort William
You seem to have picked the correct pace to do the WHW.
To many race along and miss too many hidden gems.
And congratulations with the pronunciations.
Haste ye back!
So kind. Thanks so much!
You said Milngavie correctly that alone deserves a follow lass 😊
😂 I came on to say the exact same thing and the first comment I see is yours @Romulus8 👌🏻
Absolute legend status achieved, given all her pronunciation of Scots villages, her love of this stunning wee country & her beautiful appreciation of oor drams, beers & culture.
This year, more than ever, we needed an American hero (or this year we'd accept just a reminder that good, kind-hearted, sensible, open minded people still exist there)...that hero would be our cracking wee solo hiker.
Haste ye back!! Slàinte Mhath🥃
Spoiler, she says Drymen correctly as well!
@@TheTalkoftheStreetPodcastyeah, I think we all fell in love a little...she just nailed it in a way few tourists ever do.
@@Brian-qo1sd 100%. She captures the emotion of the walk perfectly too. The algorithm did its job to an incredibly high standard today.
Couldn't even pronounce Kelvin properly and said Calvin right at the start.
I’m Scottish and living in Australia since 1983.The country is amazing and I cried my heart out as I do miss my country. My wife is German and she feels the same she misses Germany and Scotland.Congratulations on your trip and video was great.
I just stumbled across your vid, and as a 54 y/o Glaswegian, who has walked the way several times, and travelled from Miami to LA, and back again, I can certainly relate to your journey. You said this was your "video of my own, to contribute to the pile", but, if there is a pile, your work is certainly at the top. You must be the ONLY video, on YT, where an American, has pronounced ALL the place names perfectly, I was waiting for to trip up. But you didn't, and you put some of my own countrymen to shame, nailing it like that. It shows you do the research, you have the passion, and the respect to do a walk like that, the justice it deserves. tha thu mar aon againn a-nis! Subbed.
Wow, this is such a kind and lovely comment to read. Thank you for taking the time to leave it. I know my ability to travel is a privilege so taking the time to learn about the places I'm going (including how to pronounce names that may not come naturally to me) feels like a wonderful way to show respect. I love how traveled you are as well, probably why you have such a kind spirit, and I hope that life takes you on many more adventures. Maybe I'll see you The Way!
Brilliant.
I'm Scottish and you make me feel ashamed I haven't done this yet. Ashamed but inspired.
I'll get it done before I'm 60! 😆
YOU GOT THIS! YOU CAN DO IT! I can't wait for your WHW adventure!
@twowheelsonamap7248 🙂👍
This is without question one of the very best hiking videos of the Scottish highlands. Great camera work, very appropriate music and of course, your secret weapon…..your smile! Thank you for the time and effort that you have taken to make this video.
This was such a kind comment to read and it really genuinely brought a smile to my face. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and I appreciate your kindness for a stranger on the internet. Travel safe, my friend!
Very seldom do I watch a yt video without skipping bits, I watched this from start to finish ,great video ,well done lassie you also done my wee country proud it looked so beautiful 🏴
Hi came across your little video today and just wanted leave little comment to say thanks for showing my beautiful country off in your video which was excellently put together and music was fantastic .
Hope you enjoined your visit to my country . Sometimes i realise I don't appreciate the beauty of this country on my doorstep I so lucky and I take it for granted sometimes which is sin on my part..
Godbless you in everything you do and wherever your journey takes you in life ..🏴🙏🏴🙏❤️
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. I hope that you find as much beauty in the world as you can hold and thanks for sharing your country with me.
Loved it, unique filming style. Ive walked The West Highland Way twice, last time was 2019 and I'm planning to hit it in April 2025. Your video brought back a lot of great memories. 👌
This is one of the best WHW videos I've seen, and you made walking it look so easy! I've never done the full thing, but I've covered about a third of it in various day walks over the years (and I can see the summit of Conic Hill from my kitchen!). I've waited years for someone to agree to do the WHW with me, but I'm 37 and I'm still waiting. You and others on youtube are inspiring me to perhaps just do it on my own, and maybe make some new friends along the way!
I enjoyed viewing your journey over the WHW and I`m looking forward to the follow up over the Great Glen Way. I also enjoyed watching your trip from last year through parts of Scotland with your partner on the hired motorbikes, glad to see you returned and enjoyed yourself🙂
Aw, this is so nice. Thanks for stopping by again and being lovely.
I have watched hundreds of West Highland way videos and this is up there with the best, absolutely beautiful
This is very kind and I'm so grateful for your time. Thanks for coming along.
What a beautiful film of the West Highland Way. Now looking forward to the next one of The Great Glen Way, somewhat easier on the legs but in many ways just as nice. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Absolutely spot on about the GGW. A little easier fitness-wise but just so beautiful as well.
I left Scotland 51 years ago for Australia and this brings back many memories of visits back Thank you
Thanks for coming along, even from Australia. I hope you have many more visits back to Scotland if you want.
Nicely put together and commentary. One of the better WHW vids. Not many do that first leg through Kelvingrove. Glad you enjoyed it. And yes pronouncing Milngavie correctly gets you additional points :-)
Thanks so much!
Delightful video young lady. Very well filmed and I really enjoyed it. Looks like you enjoyed it too. I live near the South Downs Way in Sussex...100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne; maybe have a look at that. Anyway, thank you, and I'll certainly be looking out for your next one.
really enjoyed your video love taking me back from doing it with my sister many times she has passed now but i think she was with you ❤
Thank you for visiting our country. Your pronunciations are better than most natives! Safe and happy travels
Fantastic.
As a Scotsman who has walked the WHW on a couple of occasions, this was a fantastic wee refresher. I even enjoyed the weather. And all in 34 minutes .
Thank You!
This is so nice. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
What a fantastic video you produced about your discovery walking WHW. You definitely made me think and be inspired to tackle WHW. Thanks❤️👍🏼
You should! I sincerely hope you do! Life is short, have an adventure. Thanks so much!
Beautifully crafted film and a soundtrack that really enhanced the whole. I'm glad you paced yourself and took time to soak up what's on offer, including the beer! I walked the WHW 10 years ago and will probably do it again. As I live in Glasgow, I can also do the stages as day trips. Your film reminded me of the stunning nature we have in Scotland. I'm glad that you're planning to come back.
Thank you very much! I bet it was just as stunning 10 years ago when you did it and that it is equally so when you do it again. Living in Glasgow you must get to go to Kelvingrove Park regularly! I really loved it and thought how wonderful it would be to have a park like that in my city. Hope to see you out on The Way!
This was a great wee video. So glad you enjoyed your experience and thanks so much for posting.
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!
Beautiful video with great music - brought back happy memories of doing it twice. Love your positivity 🦋
Thank you so much! What a gift to have walked twice. Maybe I'll meet you out there on your third go-around.
Thank you for sharing, you brightened up a rather dull December morning here. Watching this makes me a very proud scotsman,i hope everyone you met was as welcoming and warm as we are known to be. Take care fair lass and haste ye back 🥃❤🏴
This is so nice and I'm happy to meet a proud scotsman like yourself! Everyone was wonderful and the Scottish Hospitality is as wonderful as the scenery.
What a lovely video! Your camera work is fantastic and you really showed off the amazing scenery to perfection. I loved when you said, "I'll be back." I think everyone who visits Scotland feels the same. We first visited in 2019, and returned to walk the West Highland Way in 2023. I loved seeing in your video the familiar sights and the quaint inns and hotels. Can't wait to return. Thank you for sharing your trip!
I know what you mean! When I see pictures or video of The Way now, it makes my heartache in the best way. I can't wait for you to get back. See you out there and thanks for stopping by.
Really lovely video. Glad you enjoyed our country. Thank you for visiting.
Thank you for having me. Your country is stunning.
Some of the best conversations I've ever had were with myself while waking.
Well done.
ABSOLUTELY. Much needed talking-to-myself time. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I live in Glasgow and I've done the WHW 5 times but I've never walked to Milngavie so you've done something I've never done. I'm only at the very start of the video but I feel like I need to apologise for the weather cos this year, even by Scottish standards, it was terrible! 💦💦💦. PS. Not too bad. And a sunny day in Fort William is pretty special! 🤣. Glad you enjoyed it.
Aw, i hope you start from your doorstep if you want to! How cool would that be? Haha, the weather in Scotland has a mind of it's own, that's for sure! Thanks so much for stopping by.
I've been away from Scotland for 12 years. This video was just the tonic I was looking for.
I'm so glad. It really is one of the joys of people sharing their adventures, we get to travel through others. I'm glad I could take you with me. Thanks for stopping by and being kind.
Thank you for bringing back so many wonderful memories. I walked it for the first time in 2007 and like you said, I had to go back and do it again in 2011 this time with my daughter. Who knows, 2025 could be my third time? x
Aw, that's so special to go back with your daughter. I'd love to go with my mom. I hope 2025 finds you on The Way!
Thank you for sharig your WHW Adventure. Have been on this trail last year. It's so amazing. Greeings from Poland.
Love Poland! Hope to get back there! Cheers to our WHW adventures!
Congratulations! What a fabulous video. The effort you've taken to add in the additional shots of you walking (meaning you had to go back to collect your camera) makes this so much more engaging, as well as sharing all your experiences. I'll be FINALLY walking this route in 2025, despite living in this beautiful country all my life! ( a classic case of never getting around to doing things on your own doorstep!). 'Haste ye' Back' to Scotland sometime soon 🙂
I am wishing you the best walk in 2025! I hope it everything you need! Happy Walking!
Loved your WHW video...Well done...Did the WHW back in 2020 in 4 days but i would much rather take my time the next time..Their is something special about the highlands of Scotland and i could see you felt it as well..Look forward to your next video 😊
Wow! Walking it in 4 days is such an impressive physical accomplishment! Congrats! I hope you get back out there for a longer walk if that's what you want.
Thanks for posting this! I did the West Highland Way years ago and loved it. Your excellent video has me itching to do it again soon (I only live around 7 miles from Milngavie, so I could probably start from home 🙂).
I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks so much! Adventure right on your doorstep, how wonderful! I hope you go on many more adventures!
Great video and music choices. Glad you had a great time doing the WHW.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I was born and raised in Glasgow and have lived in Fort William for almost 30 years now, so I tend to skip over West Highland Way videos, but I really did enjoy watching that.
To be honest, you had me from the moment you pronounced Milngavie correctly 😊
Aw, haha! Thanks so much for stopping by. I loved both your cities.
Amazing video , I did the WHW 31 years ago with my father and brother in law , sadly both passed away but great memories x
Oh wow, what incredible memories you must have with them walking together. That's so special. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for stopping by.
Loved your video, Jim from Windsor, age 75 hope to make the trip next year.
Such a great video. Emotional too. Thanks for uploading.
So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to stop by.
Excellent video of the WHW. I did it 94 🥴 I do lots of walking in Scotland 🏴 but this has inspired me not only to do it again but continue up the Great Glen way which I’ve walked and cycled in bits but never walked in full. Subscribed 👍🏻
You can do it! I think it's wonderful you did it in '94. I wonder if it has changed much. Maybe more popular now and you had a little more solitude back then?
@ I did it for charity in late April with about 15 others but you still got plenty of solitude. Weather was not great including snow going over the Devils Staircase 🥴🤣. Not sure if it has changed much - Loch Lomond has always been the trickiest. Hope you enjoyed the Great Glen Way.
Greetings from Australia. Your selection of music to accompany this video was awesome. Just the right amount of haunting-ness and inspiration. Fantastic to see a HD video. I did the WHW with my best mate over 8 days in June to celebrate my 60th birthday. Not quite the same itinerary as yours, but you brought back beautiful memories. Looks like you had reasonable weather. We did too, but got blasted with gale drive sleet for 40 minutes on the back of the Devils Staircase on day seven. The afternoon spent in the pub in Kinlochleven made up for it though 😂. I watched dozens of WHW videos in preparation for my trek and yours is up there with the best.
I have subscribed and am looking forward to reviewing your existing videos and what will come. If you were ‘without transportation’ for two weeks, I guess you tacked on the Great Glen Way as well. That is for my next visit to Scotland (along with the Kelvin walkway to Milngavnie. BTW, if you noticed any round grey Kangaroo stickers along the route that may have been me…..
Oh what an adventure! Haha, coming down the hill in sleet must have been quite the Scottish experience! So glad you have been able to experience this walk for yourself and thanks so much for your kind words about my walk! See you out there!
Oh, no I didn't see any but I will look next time! Yes, I went on to walk the Great Glen Way. It's so beautiful, you'll just love it!
I done this walk in the Summer....beautiful. Great video. 🏴
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by!
Thanks for putting together this beautiful video of the WHW I’m defo doing it 2025 ❤
That's so great! I know you'll have a wonderful time! Thanks so much.
Thoroughly enjoyed your vlog of this epic trail. It was fabulous to see you visibly falling in love with the trail as you travelled along. I do the WHW every Easter. It never fails to bring a smile to my face. G♥️🏴
Oh wow, that's incredible. So much to fall in love with, that's for sure. Happy walking!
Thank You for sharing the wonderful video of your hike along the West Highland Way. It brought back to life those cherished memories of walking the WHW some years ago. We were not as fit as you, or some of our children and grandchildren,^ that managed it in 5 days. We took 5 years!
Wow! 5 days is such an achievement! But taking 5 years is also a wonderful pace to see everything! Good job, everyone! :)
A beautiful video! Thank you for sharing your journey - I am hoping to walk this April and watching your adventure has been so inspiring! Greetings from Switzerland x
I hope you have a great walk in April and that journey is jus what you need! Never been to Switzerland before but it looks incredible and I hope to make it on day.
Those sunny autumn days in Scotland are the best. The sun is a wee bit lower in the sky casting shadows on the distant hills. Brilliant. Thanks for a great video. I live in Milngavie and it was good to hear you pronounce the names of my home town correctly. 😅
You also got the ‘ch’ in Loch Lomond spot on. I’m now looking forward to your great glen way video. I hope you had a good time.
Aw, thank you! Truly, sunny autumn in Scotland is magical! Glad you know exactly what it's like.
Enjoyed the vid. Thanks
Glad to hear it. Thanks for stopping by!
Love this! Hope to see you back in Scotland soon ❤
Thank you!! I hope to be back soon as well! How can anyone stay away once they've seen this beautiful place?
Bravo, I'll be honest I was expecting another yank calling everything "so cute" and giving our wee towns and villages new weird names, but you did well lass, I truly enjoyed watching and haste ye back.
This is so kind. Thanks for stopping by and being patient with my American accent.
Brilliant video.
Thank you so much!!
Awww , I miss the WHW ……. always say to myself that I must do it again…… was wonderful 😊
Thanks so much! I hope you make it back so you don't have to miss it, if that's where life takes you :)
Enjoyed your film took me back to when I was young and strong like you .
Thanks so much for coming along with me!
"In the time it took me to put on my rain gear it stopped raining" :-) Welcome to Scotland.
Haha! Classic wisdom, I guess! Thank you, it's a beautiful place.
What a great video of the beautiful Scottish countryside and your adventures walking the west highland way.
Thanks so much!
That’s why we are very good and quick when changing clothes? Welcome to Scotland.👍🏴💯
Haha! Clever and wise Scots!
Just came across your channel and brilliant video. I did the WHW 3 year ago now but wild camped along the way that was a challenge on its own 😂. Planning on doing it again with my 16yr old in 2025 but will definitely be booking rooms along the way this time around.
I met folks wild camping and they seemed to have such a great appreciation for the beauty. I bet you got to see so many stars. I am wishing you the best walk in 2025!
@ Thank you.
Amazing. Well done. You should try Scotlands islands too
Great suggestion! I really hope to! So much to see and do in Scotland.
That I think captured the walk as a Scotsman. Nice film.
Aw, thank you so much.
Brilliant! 👏 Those hotel and b&b prices are shocking though!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Haha! Yes, some of them did sting when booking but I will say, I loved them all and am glad I got to see them.
@ Great! I’m glad you enjoyed it. You made it look easy 😅
I don’t know how I got to a channel with 429 subs but I’m glad I did.👍👍
I don't know either, I'm always surprised people take the time to watch anything I put out there but I've met so many kind strangers this way, and I'm grateful you stopped by.
Nice video, most people drag out WHW videos to make them longer than the walk. You covered it all, and did really well, even with all the pronunciations - only thing not quite right was that it's Inveroran (Inver-or-an), unlike Inverarnan, there's no middle n. Don't come back and do the WHW again, I'd suggest the Coast to Coast (Perth to Glencoe or Fort William) which is more varied and nicer towns and villages. It's 8 or 9 days but should have at least 2 extra nights along the way. Glen Affric is shorter but also an amazing hike. I know the guy who runs the company (Transcotland) which pioneered these hikes, not sure if he arranges the CtC for solo hikers, so you may need to bring a friend.
Oh, goodness, thanks so much for the correction! I kept switching up those two names so that distinction actually makes a lot of sense and is very helpful. Great recommendations! I'll look into all of these.
Should have stayed at the Rowardenan YH on the banks of the loch. First class.
Yes! I had heard this but I did have a problem with booking it and for some reason I ended up at the Inn. Will definitely do the YH next time. Thanks for the recommendation.
Fantastic video of WHzw can i ask who your music is? Its brilliant and lends itself to your trek,
Thanks so much, this is very kind. The Hunts and To the Valley. Great folk bands and i listened to them on the walk so it felt like they should be in the video too.
From Breaking Bad country to the West Highland Way that a bit of a change of scenery. And no tripping up over the pronounciation of Scottish place names, kudos to you. If you are coming back and want to try something completely different, maybe look into the Hebridean Way. Haste ye back.
I'm so glad and impressed you recognized Albuquerque! Thats such a kind compliment about the pronunciation and I appreciate the Hebridean Way recommendation! Looking into based on your saying this, so thanks so much!
@@twowheelsonamap7248 Compared to the West Highland Way, the Hebridean Way is very much the road less travelled, at any time of year. It does involve the use of ferries so it does take some extra planning but if you can take that extra effort The Hebridean isles do have some stunning landscapes which can lead to a unique experience in which to enjoy yourself and share with others with your video editing skills.
Well that was fabulous, reminded me of when I did it on my mtb, the toughest thing I've ever done, so mucho respect. btw, £250 a night for the Kingshouse is utterly disgraceful.
Haha! Yes, the price tag DEFINITELY stung but I couldn't pass up the chance to stay in such a beautiful hotel. Must have been incredible (and challenging!) on a. mountain bike!
@@twowheelsonamap7248 I stayed in there when I did it on my mtb but that was before it was all modernised, I think I was £80
Did you know the Drovers is well known for being haunted !
I visited the bar on a deserted winters night and asked the barman if had ever experienced anything unusual in the Inn and he replied " he'd never seen anything in the 400 years he'd been working there 😮!
Hahaha, this is the best comment!
I left Scotland for 20 years and then decided I need to get back because life is short without beauty in it.?
What month did you hike?
Great watch, get to vatersay for the hebridean walk
Thank so much for the recommendation! Will do!
Great job girl ❤ it ?
Thank you!!
Scotland is a guessing country.? You wake up and guess what it’s going to be like? Don’t take it for granted(LIFE).👍🏴
Absolutely! It's a great lesson.
I actually can’t believe the price of your board and I’m from Scotland? £120 per night in a rip off lodge.🤦🏻🏴
Absolutely! I'm so glad you made your way back and I hope you have as much beauty as you want! Some of the prices may have been higher than I'd pay if I was a local but I truly appreciated every place I go the chance to stay.
You like a beer & a dram you have no idea how u fit right in to Scotland 😂 Please come back again now you're an honorary scot.
This is my favorite comment so far, haha! Thanks so much! I'm in great company.
