    I'm a 63 year old woman from the U.S.A. and have this hike on my bucket list. Training now as I haven't done any long distance hikes. Thank you for your very detailed video. It helped me decide I could do it using hotels on the way. Very good.

      @rory_scott  3 роки тому +4

      I’m happy it helped you make a few decisions on how you will do the walk. You could definitely do it over a longer period, as well as use hotels/b&bs for accommodation. You could also use one of those luggage deliver services that takes your suitcase to the next hotel for you, so that you only need to walk with the essentials. Hope you make the trip!

      I did the WHW beginning on 21 March 2023, I took 8 days, carried my pack one day then had it shuttled the rest, used accommodations, it was my first long distance walk, I did it solo & I’m a 62yo female, I had a great time!…..You got this! : )

    Walked the WHW last year by myself, just a great experience. But I still cannot get enough, watching other's hikers videos to see their experience and to have great memories. Thx for sharing.

    UA-cam's algorithm suggested this video for me so I banged it on straight away. Absolutely loved it, I've watched a few WHW videos because me and my girlfriend are doing it in the back end of September and this video I found to be by far the most informative one I've watched. After watching the video I've came to your channel to subscribe expecting you to have 10's of thousands of subs due to how polished the editting and storytelling felt to be amazed that you're so new in the game! Well done mate, that's some content to be proud of and I can't wait to see what else you come out with in future 👌🏻

      Thanks a million mate, you’ve made my day with this comment! And hopefully it’ll help the algorithm even more haha! It can definitely be frustrating spend a lot of time or videos that never get more than a few views never mind a comment. I’m glad it’ll help you on your trip in September, that’ll be a great time to do the walk.. a little quieter and no midges!

    Rory I completely agree with you….that decent into Kinlochleven was wicked!
    I just did the walk end of March beginning of April 2023 & it was great!
    Personally, I enjoyed the bit around Loch Lomond…however, I wasn’t carrying a full pack & I split that section into two days which I think makes a big difference.
    Great first long distance walk!
    Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Great photograph and editing…well done!

    Thank you for this awesome narrative of the hike. My wife and I plan on doing the walk just about a year after you did - late April-early May 2022. We were scheduled twice before but cancelled both times due to COVID-19. Traveling from the States we were not sure that we’d make it, and then be able to get back home. We are optimistic about the hike in 6 months. Your comments were tremendously helpful in our planning, in particular regarding clothing to have on hand, as I’m sure we’ll have the same kind of mix of weather you experienced. Thanks again!

    I know this was released a couple of years ago, but thank you for such a great video on the West Highland Way! It's so great to look back on how stunningly beautiful the scenery is all the way through, and your editing and calming voice make it all the better😅!
    I did my walk in April 2022, when I was 18. Had zero experience wildcamping or long distance hiking, but just sorta bought a train ticket (from home in Leicestershire), threw myself into it and had an unforgettable experience. Met some amazing people (who I ended up doing the walk with) and saw scenery that I never thought I'd see!
    Thank you for giving us a brilliant video sharing how beautiful this trail is (whatever the weather😂)!

    Great vlog thanks for sharing your trip. I did back in May 2017. Loved it. Your 5 stop points made more sense than mine. I was bust after walking into Tyndrum snow was falling (in May) and i stopped at that campsite. I stopped next at Glencoe resort. I can’t believe the resort burnt down. That was another cold night camping around the resort area. Then did over to kinloch and glen nevis in one day. That was a killer. The king house has really changed as used be a pub in the middle of no where with a handful of shabby rooms. Tyndrum to Bridge of ochy was a fav. Not sure I would do again but never say never.

    • @rory_scott
      @rory_scott  2 роки тому +1

      Yes that final day from Glencoe mountain resort to the finish must have been a tough ending! I don't think I would change my itinerary if I had to do it again. I never experienced the old Kingshouse.. it looked like it had character. the new refurbishment has mixed reviews, and I believe caters towards the tourists rather than the walkers. never say never! haha

    20 years later I was lucky enough to get to trek to Everest Base Camp, ticking off my bucket list number one. But I will always cherish the memories of the West Highland Way especially tackling the Devil’s Staircase after a heap of pints at Kingshouse👍🏻 And of course climbing the Ben at the end of the hike

    I enjoyed watching your walk. I realize watching yours and others WHW films just what I'm missing. With my guide book ready I just need to do some long walks and fitness building to get ready to do this,and test to see if my knees can cope with the work load.

    • @rory_scott
      @rory_scott  2 роки тому

      Yes the best way to prepare is to slowly build your walking. Walk small distances with a little weight and then slowly start to increase distances. I did the WHW in 5 days and it was quite tough, but a way to make it easier is to do it over 6 or 7 days, or more, and also ensure that you're carrying the lightest pack you can. If you're not camping, then it would be possible to carry a very light pack, as you won't need a tent and sleeping and stove etc like I did.

    Best one I’ve seen yet 👍🏻 I’m starting late April next year, going to walk in trail shoes. I have a terra nova laser comp. tent and was thinking of getting the Wild country tent you have as it seems more robust for only a little more weight. Cheers

    • @rory_scott
      @rory_scott  3 роки тому +2

      Intersting comment. Wild Country is actually Terra Nova, and this tent is branded as a much cheaper option than the laser comp. I think its priced cheap as the material isn't as lightweight.. but I guess you get a thicker, tougher material which could be better for some people. I did think the tent was super small, probably on the limit of a 1 man tent. I feel like I probably wish I had got a bigger tent, with more room to move/chill inside, even if it meant a slightly heavier weigh. There were so many other ways I think I could shed the weight in the pack to make up for it.

    Hello Rory,
    Kit question again, are you wearing the - Meindl Bhutan MFS GORE-TEX® Walking Boot , if so how do you find them for hiking in different terrain and weathers. I am looking and stuck between them and the Lowa renegades. Would appreciate some feedback on the Meindl’s.
    Cheers Scott

    • @rory_scott
      @rory_scott  3 роки тому +1

      Yes that was the boot I was wearing. I like them a lot. I've always like the all brown walking boots, although these are the first pair I've owned with the Gore Tex liner. For the WHW, they were fine, although with all the flat walking on day 1, I actually think trainers may have been better, but boots with a good ankle support have always been my first choice in all terrains. The underside of the front of the soles also turn up at the front, so your feet roll nicely on a flat surface. I've used them for flat walking, summer hiking, and some winter hiking. Great in all terrains.I would however say that after 2 years the waterproofing started to suffer, and a few weeks ago I returned them to Cotswolds to get an inspection. Good thing is you get a 2/3 year guarantee with them. Still waiting to hear back from them about the boots.

      @@scottrussell6326 I haven't heard back from them yet. Remind me again in a few weeks! Not sure if Cotswolds will test them themselves, or send them back to the supplier in Austria? Who knows.
