Hi Doug. Ive enjoyed your presentations so have subbed. I lived in the NE in the 80s and a number of friends knew of these trains. Ive seen videos and photos galore. Makes an interesting specialist subject for modelling. 👍👍👍
Hi there. Great stuff but on a technical note; the Raven T3s (Q7) and Thompson O1s hauled eight hoppers and it was not until the 9Fs were allocated to the Consett turn that nine hoppers could be hauled. A number of trials took place with a single Sulzer Type 2 (Class 24) hauling nine hoppers backed by two Clayton (Class 17) diesels. This was a failure. A single Type 4 (Class 46) was trialled and this hauled nine hoppers in record time without the need for a banker on the steeper gradients so the time saved on coupling and uncoupling a banker made this loco a success but was never introduced for some reason.
Went to school in Annfield Plain (Greencroft 70-77) and the Class 37's (double-headed??) used to sound amazing as they crept up the hill on a summers day with the classroom windows open. They were visible from the second floor but I didnt know what they were then.
Brilliant video, really enjoyed it. Carl.
Excellent video Doug remember them Passing Bank Top SB 9f's Top & tail from Dock bottom when I started my career in the S&T department in 1957

I know David. One of the perils of modelling is running wagons and trucks in fixed rakes. Only people with your obvious knowledge would know anyway!

Great video. Not a subject I am familiar with Doug, but the Consett wagons look very similar to some of the LMS wagons? Cheers, Bob
