- I have been putting videos and pictures of my layout on FB and having some nice comments so I thought I would try my luck on here.
My interest in railways both model and the real thing began when my father bought me my first train set at 4 years old and it has been with me for the whole of my life.
I was a trainspotter in the 60s traveling the whole of the UK to find steam and then as the years have gone by I have been lucky to travel the world, USA, China, South Africa, Russia, Germany to name a few to video steam, which hopefully will appear on another channel shortly.
This video is a description of my layout and if people like it I will do more showing how i run the model and all the various locos. To me, my model recreates what I saw and creates what I didn't, and represents the years 57-68.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Great collection of locomotives & yet it doesn’t look overcrowded.
Out of 100's of layouts and railroads I've viewed I've never seen so many loco's on display. Never. And many look skillfully weathered Doug? I don't think many of us can achieve near such a collection today; the cost of the hobby nowadays. I found a lot of real world, and 00 model nostalgia watching this. I'm looking forward to expresses hurtling down those middle roads. Someone mentioned arrangement of the layout. That's what I saw straight away. In what is a massive storage space, it's pleasing on the eye.
Thank you for your kind comments. I have weathered the locos to different levels. Some are ex-works virtually pristine and others very work stained. People have been very kind so more videos will come!
Personally, I am glad you are a 'rivet counter', it means I get to learn something.
Hello Doug
What a wonderful collection and amazing layout. I am glad you decided to show this on youtube, it is very inspiring.
Thank you.
Hi Doug, What a brilliant shed and station layout, you have nailed it, so good to see a locomotive from nearly every class of steam and diesel, very well done.
Awesome job Doug, you can never have
enough locomotives
here in Australia many
people don’t realise model trains are
an investment, my Father recently sold two locomotives & got more than he paid for them & they were 30 years old.
Wow! Wonderful railway and collection of motive power and rollingstock. Thankyou for sharing!
An amazing achievement .......true to form...!!
Hello Doug, New viewers. Wow! My husband and I appreciate and applaud your years of hard work on your railway layouts and stock. The locomotives are truly fantastic. Congratulations on each endeavor. Well done!.
Thanks for the tour Doug. 👍👍👍👍 Subscribed a few days ago when I came across your channel. GWR fan myself but appreciate others for what they are. Grew up on Paddington Birmingham main line at Knowle and Dorridge. Born 56, so well remember steam as every day, and the dieselisation years. Blue Pullman was a big favourite. Tyseley was our local shed, passed to LMR in 65, I think so steam lasted a little longer and brought foreign types and standards. Served BR 73-81, and again 90-98. Both spells as shunter, then platform staff.
Doug!!!!! Oh yeah....Hell yeah. My mouth is still watering and craving all your locos as im writing this message, Its an absolute joy to view and many of us modellers can relate to your comments from having our first train set as a child, then before we know it the hobby is shelved when the wife and kids come along and we only return to it when the kids leave home. I too am a lover of lots of locos and rolling stock and i must have them all out on display as i believe costing that much to purchase im not going to hide them away all of the time where i cant see them. once again love the layout, great achievment, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your kind comments. It is a life's collection!
What a testament to a great collection..... i bet the hand of god plays a part if you want to run one of those locos up the back......👍 I could easily mistake that steamer collection for Barry's scrap yard 😉
Thank you for your kind comments. Actually the shed has isolating sections of approx. 10 inches so each loco can be moved separate. Its part of the fun!
You must have a big book to keep track of all stock lol brilliant thankyou for the video
The organisation of this layout makes me happy
Wow what a fantastic collection of locos and rolling stock, love to see a prototypical train vid for cartridges and wagons the what have run the day 😊 please the vids up Doug thank you
WOW.....Now that's a layout.....amazing!!
What a fantastic layout a credit to you
I posted the number of locos then deleted it so not to spoil the end. Wow. Super layout as was your presentation.
Wow incredible layout 😊 New Subscriber #501 and we hit the bell 👊😊
Cheers🍺🍻 KC Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝😎👍✌
Wow. Wow again. That is a very nice collection of locomotives. I would like to see some running
Thank you. Watch this space!
Absolutely, amazing, will look forward to seeing more, David from New Zealand.
Absolutely phenomenal matey.. Totally and utterly phenomenal..
That is sensational. Had my first train set at six and despite being housebound and disabled, still at it at 71!! That, Doug, is a mighty collection and I thought I was overdoing it taking up to 90 to shows with my exhibition layout. Magnificent collection, even if it is OO (I am an N Gauge fanatic but appreciate all gauges) Subscribed and looking forward very much to your next offering. Cheers, Bob
Greetings from Niagara Falls Canada. You have an amazing collection and layout. Thanks for sharing . Well done.

Very impressive collection!
Amazing collection love it 👍
Thanks for sharing, looks fantastic. Would love to see more
337 locos? WTF? I have subscribed because I cannot wait to see some action! Regards, Eric.
Fenomenal!
Fabulous layout
Brilliant work love the video 👍
What a great layout that is
Impressive collection of locomotives and Emu/Dmus. Looking forward to future videos on the operation of the extensive system you’ve built.
are you sure you have enough locomotives?
You never too many locos there is always the one you are looking for for me it's the Z class SR 0_8_0 and rhe U1 Garrett of LN3R
Just a awesome layout can I see some running please thanks
Awesome layout, shows your dedication to your hobby
Strewth!😊
Very impressive. I would like to see more of it and the running of the trains. My layout is not just any area (mostly in the US), but any time frame. Basically, if it has wheels that run on rails and I find it interesting, I will put it on my layout.
Hi Doug. Knew of this from Marcus F. It is brilliant and brings back many memories. I'm waiting to see how you manage to make up the trains with so many locos to choose from.✌😄
Hi James. The locos are all in 10 inch isolating sections, so I find it very enjoyable moving them round the shed yard!
would love to see a top down track plan picture. beautiful layout
Thank you. Unfortunately I don't have a track diagram. It was all in my head!
Must have one heck of a loft!
Its 35ftx25
Wow, I struggle to understand and remember loco types from the LMS, nevermind their constituents, how do you do it !!, well done. Great video, I'm in, thank you ever so much for sharing.
My 'bible' is a 1957 Combined Volume. I intend to get one of every engine in there, and every derivative, ie 4 different Jubilees. A man has to have a hobby!
Haha, I’m stuck will an xls spreadsheet
Best guess is around 120 engines. But that could be way low.
Please add videos operating the trains.
I am working on my first module for a shelf type layout. So I need the ideas on operation. Best wishes.
Try 337
👍👍👍
Thank you
Wow,what a collection of steam locomotives.I prefer diesel though,so glad I spotted a class 33 and 31 and what looked like a baby deltic?
Look again. I have at least one of every class of diesel that ran on BR between 58 and 68!
Great layout and soooo many locos! Thanks for posting. I was wondering if you have enough water cranes and tanks to service all those steam locos?
PS what was/is your oldest running loco, the Hornby BR 2-6-2T R59 ?
My Hornby Dublo 46245 originally City of London (now 46254 City of Stoke-on-Trent - my home town!) Bought for me over 60 years ago and still going strong. Will put up a video of it running.
Wow, that’s impressive, looking forward to seeing it run
Hello Doug, great layout and video. Do you mind me asking which turntable have you installed is it one that you have created?
H Tim
The turntables are Fleishman. Expensive but well worth it!
What are the locomotives at 0:28? Specifically the right one! Looks great!
Hi they are two Stanier Black 5s. the one on the left is 45156 'Ayrshire Yeomanry' and on the right is double chimney 44765.
@@DougsModelRailway did you modify the one to have a double chimney or is that how it came stock ?
@@SR3Dfilms Yes I have modified and weathered it.
Hey mate, fix the sound, not all of us have dirty big amplifiers attached to our computers,
Hi. Sorry you are having a problem. I have played the video and all seems fine, so I don't really understand. I certainly don't have a big amplifier?
@@DougsModelRailway Hello Dough, thanks for the reply, pretty much all the videos I watch are at a sound level of 8 on my TV ( my setup is I run a Win 7 computer as a media centre and stream to a tv from that ) with yours, I could just hear you speaking and had to turn the sound up to 24 to hear you. With videos like yours I don't watch them as invariably I forget to turn the sound back down when they are finished, I have trouble with loud noises - including videos, that cause me physical pain. Hence I don't knowingly expose myself to loud noises, even though yours was very soft, it is still a problem, pity as I'm sure your videos are enlightening, Ed
Hi, are my other UA-cam videos ok or just this one, also how about videos from others?
Fantastic collection, but too much camera movement and too fast. It made my head swim!
Noted Jeff. This was just to give a general impression of the layout. if you wish I can certainly do more videos where I can show moe of the locos.
Wow how fantastic. I really hope you have a young relative or two that you can pass on your amazing collection and layout to when you sadly leave this world, or even some model rail organisation that could inherit it from you as it would be such a terrible waste for it to be broken up and disposed of. Really looking forward to your next video to see your layout in action.
Hey Doug followed your link from Facebook
That is a true legacy layout, expertly planned and executed Doug. Your railway stock is off the chart, amazing.
I'm very new to the hobby but enjoy all things railway related, will certainly follow your loco rotation and running sessions etc. All the best with your new channel, the subs will climb in no time. Good luck. Brian @ The Angels
