- This Unity 2D Tutorial will cover how to use Unity's tilemap system to make a simple level for use in our 2D Top-Down Pixel Art style RPG.
▬▬ι═══════ﺤ Tutorial Series Overview -═══════ι▬▬
In this Unity tutorial series we'll be crafting a cosy pixel art 2D top-down RPG reminiscent of games like Stardew Valley, Forager and the Zelda series. We'll explore building out a game world, making a compelling player character and then bringing the game to life with NPCs, Quests, Crafting and much more!
These tutorials are aimed at gameDevs of all skills levels! If you're just starting out I'll bring you up to speed with good practice & cover core concepts to build your skills. If you're already well versed in the craft I'll be providing lots of tips and tricks to speedup workflows and to create modular reusable systems as well as sharing my game design insights along the way.
Each tutorial will be unique and largely self contained, feel free to make suggestions in the comments and I'll try to cover those topics in future videos!

This was my very first tutorial & I'm really glad with how it turned out. Thanks to everyone who has had a watch, cannot wait to make more of these! \o/
Really great content! I am looking forward to following along with your tutorials.
Thanks \o/ Just doing the next one now, can't wait to see what you make :3
good work bro this is one of the most detialed guide I ever seen.
Followed and liked for the organization tips alone! Great content thank you! (Found you on the game Dev discord by the way
Nice! I’m glad I posted on a couple of those. Ye, I truly believe that organisation is the key to sustainable development. Just helps so much. Can’t wait to share more as we go along!
Nice tutorial Soundy! Next episode you will just have to talk about tilemaps extra features like animation, rules, and other options you can do with tilemap
Thanks!!!
Yeh, I’m gonna demo animated & rule tiles && how to use them to make the scene pop!
Big thank you --- over all this was the only helpful tutorial current
editing tip some of the less important parts you can speed up by 1.2x
this will help get more views
Really great format
Thats a great idea, I did try one timelapse section in one video so I'll try to apply that to more. Thanks for the feedback & thanks for the positive vibes!! ♥
Mate, I hope that your tut's will help me. Im new in game dev and trying to create game by learning. Didn't found any useful course that can help me.
Also, can I know, it will be turn-based game or more like mmorpg?
Good luck with series!
I’m going to try my best to make this series as accessible and fun to follow as possible. This game will be an open world style experience with a focus on chill vibes rather than just combat, but we will be adding combat though it won’t be incredibly deep.
@@Soundy777 it’s perfect mate! My idea was to create open world game in rpg style (like Skyrim and etc)
@@vadimsokolov-samonov-zh5un link me up to anything you make! Adore seeing things like that
Hi! Really nice tutorial!
Btw when I make de "Tiles" (10:05) Instead of showing me an image similar to the Sprite in the "Tile Palette" section, is showing me everything 1x1 size :( someone knows why this may happen?
This could be a couple of things. Select the sprite in the project panel and then in the inspector ensure you’ve set it to be multiple and sliced it up via sprite editor window. Also, ensure you’ve set the pixels per unit to be 16.
Oh I guess I missed something in the process, now is working, thank youuuu!! >u
@@paprika8125 anytime! I wanna see the cool stuff you’re making! Be sure to come show it off in the discord. Love some dev banter
thanks for the invite! cool! :D
I wish you showed me how to make sea animation :( But nice video waiting for the next
Working on the next one as we speak! I’ll show you how to make that sea animation effect don’t worry :3. Adore building this magic!
Nice im probaly going to use this some day but you are a bit quiet
Can’t wait to see what you make! I’ll adjust the volume for the next one, thanks for the feedback :)
my camera isn't aligned with my grid like you have and I followed your steps exactly. Any advice? (I'm brand new)
Jump in the discord and share me some screenshots so I can have a see. In the meantime set the camera’s transform and the grid’s transform to 0 on the X & Y. I use containers to group everything and sometimes these containers can be offset form the origin, so check every transform to see which is causing the issue.
14:45 can't find this icon (tile grid view?)
In 2022 LTS it’s moved across to the left of where it is in this video (made using 2021 LTS). Jump in the discord & screenshot your editor & I can help troubleshoot the issue. I’m about to pass out so I’ll respond in a couple hours.
@@Soundy777 found it bottom right of scene editor. I'll go watch your next tutorial, very helpful, thank you.
@@Shadzen great work, I swear the UI elements move around randomly sometimes lol!
I would have jumped on this tutorial about a month ago but since switching to Godot and finally enjoying game development I've uninstalled Unity! My advice for a newbie choosing an engine and deciding on Unity or Godot then trust me, Godot wins hands down.
Godot is a fun time as well as Unity. I’ll consider making a Godot series in the future because I agree there is a lot of cool stuff that you can build with it. Thanks for dropping by :3
Muito bom, vou seguir!
Obs.
I was losing my mind because my path kept being covered by the ground layer then I watched and the layer order fixed it
Layer ordering can be a right pain sometimes. Glad you figured it out :)

Whats that mean?
Why you often lower your voice at the end of each sentence T_T
I can't hear what you're saying.
It's difficult for a non English native to understand.
I’ll work on that, thanks for the feedback.
