    Wow, the way you fracture the wood into splinters, brick into chunk with mortar particularly susceptible is awesome!

      Yeah I would love to see it going live, I used a previous version and was pretty cool, still though 2.8 should be a must.

      Agreed. I went back to 2.79 recently, and forgot how much I like the new UI better. You CAN mix the two, you use "Append" to get objects out of a 2.8 file and fracture them.

      Yes! This will come. Actually we are working on a new promo-video for FLIP fluids, as well as some development work.
      This is why no tutorials will be uploaded this month.
      But a full "how-to" for the helper-addon is the next step ;)

    I've had a lot of fun with the fracture modifier and I really appreciate you making this video to show how to use it. But with more complex objects I have had better luck with the cell fracture. Could you make a video about using the fracture modifier with objects that have more geometry? Such as rocks or spheres? I get really weird fractures when I try to use it with spheres with smooth shading. Thanks!

      Well the history is quite long but basically code and design compatibility. The way fracture modifiers does things is quite different from how core blender is designed.. Also considering how little discussion there has been on the 2.8 port task in phabricator it doesn't look too promising that it will ever make it to trunk. (Well before physics rework anyhow)

      In the Szene-TAB -> Rigid Body Panel you have to increase the cache-frames ;). This is part of Blender itself.

  • @BlenderRookie

    Most of that I figured out by fiddling with the settings. But the thing I can't figure out is how to make the shards splinter. As in be narrow but long.

    • @Blenderphysics-Videos
      @Blenderphysics-Videos  6 років тому

      Just use the splinter-buttons on the right side.
      i.imgur.com/r9KNIWm.png

    • @BlenderRookie
      @BlenderRookie 6 років тому

      @@Blenderphysics-Videos I saw that and I tried it. But no matter which axis I chose or how long I set the splinter length, it wouldn't fracture differently. I made sure after adjusting the settings I executed the fracture.
      For example, even when I set the splinter length to 5 on the z axis, then clicked execute fracture, the shards were still no longer than they are wide.
      I will give it another try when I get home from work. Maybe it was glitching and the changes simply weren't taking effect.

    • @BlenderRookie
      @BlenderRookie 6 років тому

      @@Blenderphysics-Videos I just got home and tried it again and it worked fairly intuitively. So I can only assume the last time I tried, it was glitching and the cache got stuck or something.
      I have another question. Is there a way to use the grease pencil to create a fracture pattern? If so, do you know of or have a tutorial explaining how. Keep in mind I know nothing about the grease pencil. I have never used it. But I heard it can be done and have seen a grease pencil option in the advanced settings of the fracture modifier.

    Hello there. this addon is great!!!!! but I have a question, if I have two independent objects with fractures and that they should interact with each other, when doing the bake should I do one at a time? I have had problems such that in doing so the final simulation is not the same as the one I see in the previews, there are shortcomings in the animation of one block and another ... if someone can help me I will appreciate it. Thank you for this development, you are the best: D

    • @Blenderphysics-Videos
      @Blenderphysics-Videos  5 років тому +1

      Hi Robert. Yes tthats true: Baking can look different to preview.
      My Tipp for you is to to use "current cache to bake" - then your preview will be converted to baked frames.
      Sometimes its required to refracture things or to move something to make the cache actualizing.
      This is not an FractureModifer-issue but something that comes with the nature of Blender.

    • @Blenderphysics-Videos

      As long as an object should move its required to use "active" ... whenever an object keeps being on the same position "passive" is the right choice.

      I was speaking for people in the industry and are willing to invest in there occupation. cinema 4d has a more organized system to complete this task like for instance the cluster constraints with are done by using the hair tool and selecting exactly where you want to break and getting smaller pieces and bigger pieces exactly where you want them which greatly improves vfx directing.
