Good comparison. I was considering both and I brought the Max EDC because of the design changes and love it. The fact that the pockets eat into the main compartment is valid when fully utilised - guess thats the trade off for more organisation / edc suitability. Wish it was a 28L, that would be the sweet spot for a cross over bag size, but it is marketed as an EDC so no complaints. I think the 30L will get some of the design change of the 26L.
Thank you for this fantastic review. The hip belt pocket is a big deal for me and you're the only one that's mentioned it so thanks! I'm not even sure if it's mentioned on the website
Glad it was helpful! Able Carry is set to release their own hip belt accessory in the future but it's not clear when. Hopefully the ability to add one is a feature they include in future backpack updates, especially on the larger bags.
please review the fjallraven ulvo 30. I just got it and the raven 28. Deciding to keep the ulvo for the extra space it has and feels a bit higher quality to me.
Using this for EDC quick access is importantly to me. I want quick access to my flashlight, sunglasses, pocket knife, wallet, and EarPods. Where would I keep those things so I’m not rummaging around a big open space. I’m trying to sell myself in this bag but without slip pockets I’m really struggling. I will say this is one of the best looking bags on the market but I’m not sure it’s worth giving up my Sympl Commuter.
The side pocket and top pocket above the shoulder straps will give you quick access to small stuff like wallet, flashlight, pocket knife and airpods. But you're right, there isn't a single large organization compartment that allows you to keep everything in one spot since the pockets are all spread out.
instead of making the bag tall they could have made in 19inch by 13/13.5 instead of 11.8. That way thee could have managed to get more space in the main compartment.

The hidden strap pocket and the option to attach a hip belt make Max EDC a clear winner for me. Thank you for the comparison!

An updated version of the Max 30L with some of these changes would be perfect

So not two actual and usable sidepockets in either bag? That's a dealbreaker.
You mean like regular mesh pockets that most backpacks have? Able Carry uses zippered pockets instead. for a cleaner look.
