A tutorial on lighting a scene like this to match the lighting in the source would be awesome. Specifically casting shadows. This was super helpful as is though. Thanks!
Whenever the 3d camera tracker doesn't work, I planar track / point track the objects(or manually bake keyframes), extract the track data to new solid layer with beam, grid, turb noise(or any effect that'll help AE to read warps & textures better) to make the new precise perspective of the scene and turn off the footage. Then I precomp the solid layer, and do the 3d cam track again. It works perfectly in most of the messed up footage situations when too many moving objects are visible. Since it simplifies the depth data tremendously but correctly. 🥰
you're a good communicator. that's what makes this channel great. There are a lot of very talented animators out there but sometimes they don't explain it well.
I know there are many but you are the only amongst few who teaches motion design so comfortably and effectively is truly admirable. I cant able to say in words. Thanks a lot...
You can even delete tracking points to refine the solve (otherwise they will be taken in consideration by the solve process, adding error to the tracking). In this case, i could have deleted all the markers on the water, but AE did a good job filtering them. But sometimes, deleting them, will really help improve a lot the tracking
9:19 That ONE click was the thing I've been searching how to do for days! Lol No other tutorial shows how to add a second target after the first text is done!!!
Bro ! thank you so much. really needed to learn this last minute and this video came in handy! Thank you for making it super simple and straight to the point!
wo very good should i buy synthes or will AE be enough, also sometimes tracking points arn't visable after going out and in to the track can they be re-accessed? also heh. how about not having the camera resolve when going back in track? thanks! allot questions
Wonderful tutorial, thanks so much for the detailed explanations! Out of curiosity, is there a reason behind the tracking points having different colors?
Could you do a video using this technique to remove roads from drone landscape shots ? The main issue being for roads that goes from close to far from the camera on different heights, I don't get how to track/remove this. Multiple tracks/clean plates ?
@jakeinmotion, thank you for the awesome tutorials ,would it be possible to add Polaroids to something like this with different pictures or video? Thanks again Fire the Awesome tutorial 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hi Jake, do you have a tutorial where you explain the advanced tab in After effects ? What setting best to use for what situation. Like the one you did now.
I was lucky enough to be in a location that screened the Weird Al movie during the NYC premiere, and everyone in the theater got the shirts, a wig, and fake moustache. It was pretty awesome.
Hey Brother Really impressed with your work. Which laptop do you use on the go like traveling and on the go editing purpose? Can you make your setup tour videos
for me at the end it only shows me the tracking points when i check the render track points box, also it doesnt give me the option to just place something into it...
Hey Jake, awesome video. This was very helpful. Quick question, what machine are you using for this? I recently got a new Asus ROG Zephys, and running after effects with 4K video is extremely difficult. My use-case is just creating shot tracers for golf shots. Not sure if you have any machine or spec recommendations? Appreciate any help you can provide!
"Hi, it's Jake. In this After Effects tutorial I'm going to teach you about 3D camera tracking in a ruse that ends with forcing you to watch endless duplicates of me dancing in my fursuit."
hi . i have a 4K footage. when i insert it to a Full HD composition and reduce it's scale , 3D camera tracker returns an error that means footage and composition must have same size. even when i made a pre-compose it didnt work. anyone have any idea?
This is like ... the 5th tutorial on this ive watched. i do it exactly the same as all of you... except as soon as I change the axis the tracking stops working. i want to snap. someone help
@@JakeInMotion ya if i drop the object in 3d space and don't touch it, it will stay where it's supposed to during playback. But as soon as I rotate/flip/otherwise move the solid or the object it will move around during playback. Interestingly, if I just add text it works fine. I can rotate and move it anywhere and the text stays where it's supposed to. I'm beyond confusion at this point, especially cause the first 4 clips worked easily on the first try.
@@JakeInMotion the error threshold varies from shot to shot but usually pretty good. The things is... ive started from scratch on the same clips I used in the past that were worked easily and I still have the same problem. It's like a flip is switched and now... even when i do the exact same process to the exact same shot it will not track properly. Heres a link to one that I got to work the way i wanted so you can see what I'm talking about... thank you for even responding and trying. you are awesome ua-cam.com/video/e8wJXUHraB8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=GERES
@@JakeInMotion I even just went through the whole "normalization process" and it still has exactly the same problem. ive reisntalled AE. I've updated my mac. Every tutorial i watch... when I do the exact this you guys do, i have different results. It's like my buttons in AE do different things.

It seems like the plural of “fox” should not be “foxes.” But I don’t know what it should be. One of your best videos, thanks! Edit: I understand that “foxes” is correct but it doesn’t sound right. 😜
I can NEVER get a good track with any aerial footage in After Effects. I must have tried at least 40 videos...nothing. Even with 4K clips, I don't understand why After Effects fails to track it...
That's crazy! Aerial shots almost always work for me. Are you trying to track particularly long shots? You could try precomposing the footage and increasing the contrast before applying the 3d camera tracker.
3D Tracking in after effects is instantly rewarding? For me NEVER. 95% of the time it slips, slides or wiggles just a little or at a certain time. And belief me, I tried on some shots for hours and hours pulling all the tracking tricks I know.
Yes, I've had the same issues before too. I think most shots are just asking too much of the 3D camera tracker. Only the simplest scenes with little to no objects moving within them are the most successful.
your title has nothing to do with the video, you have a pretty straight forward shot, and you still manage to mess it up with bad tracking . .. there is NO SUCH METHOD TO TRACK EVERYTHING IN ANY VIDEO, so stop trying to fool your viewers to get more views.

AGREE! :)
I’ll fourth that motion.
I agree! Up!
Might be able to use AI to create a skybox based on the footage. ua-cam.com/video/mL0d3R3FNlc/v-deo.html
your teaching style and energy is really appreciated, thanks for making high quality tutorials ❤
Thanks for saying that!
Love the paper prop! Was a genius move to visualize the tracker target in real life :D
Thank you! So much of after effects can be represented with sheets of paper 😆

The advanced tab in the 3d camera tracker? Yes, I cover that in the effects of after effects video for that effect.
@@JakeInMotion No, in the comp settings. I just finished the 3d camera video tho hahaha.
Oh I see! Yeah, that's a great video idea. Thanks!

Great tutorial as always. Do you know of a way to zero transformation on layers? in 3D it is called Freeze Transformation.
Another great vid, thanks for your teachings!
Now let's move on to the important question;

WOW! I am working in AE since last 10+ years but i didnt know there was an option for looping the footage 😅😬😄😵

Make sure the precomp is set to be HD as well, and scale the footage down to fit. Then track the camera in the main comp.
