What's the problem here? It sounds y'all don't want Second Dinner to monetize anything. No monetization means no more revenue means the game dies. If they don't incentivize the purchase of gold, what do they incentivize the purchase of?
Something very important to understand is, that new Series 5 Cards and new Series 4 Cards cost the same amount of spotlight caches / Collection Level. But new Series 4 Cards only cost 3.000 Tokens. That's why you should buy the new series 4 cards (like Mirage) with tokens and save your Spotlight Caches for a new Series 5 card you really want.
If you open the mystery S4/S5 card and u already have it. They should give U a variant of that card not a random variant. I had to open the 4th spotlight to get Jean Gray and before that, I opened Spiderman 2099 and as I already had it they changed it for an Agatha Varíant... Sucks...
Thanks for posting the Spotlight Cache openings. I thought the Random Series4/5 box was an issue for people who are almost Series 4/5 complete in that they had a good chance of getting a variant for a random card but I (incorrectly) assumed it would have been a premium variant for the card you would have pulled (thus a variant of a Series 4/5 card) NOT a premium variant of a totally random (Series 1-5) card. That is even WORSE than I imagined (if that is possible).
I think this system being good for all is a tad disingenuous. Which, I know you’re not meaning to make the message. But for most S3 complete players - this shouldn’t feel that great. Any time your turn in game currency to essentially premium (in this case tokens) you should see plainly what’s happening. Look you can spend (buy) 7k gold now and get 2k tokens! Further, any time you add further randomization to acquisition in a CCG you might as well call your game a card gacha. This no doubt slingshots new and low collection players into higher meta decks, and those without a few of the big bads. If they GENUINELY wanted to improve acquisition for all - all they simply needed to do was improve token acquisition/refresh or implement a creative “dusting” system. Instead, They simply introduced a literal gacha mechanic. I’m sorry but give me a break. And I’m usually not too cynical.
I'm not kidding, my first Spotlight Cache pull was Galactus, then my second was Knull (with a beautiful skin)... I'm so happy! I saved those caches for about 2 weeks only and I now have 2 big bads, which I can play in the same deck even? That's amazing!
It gave me Knull Variant of first Spotlight but I already had Knull before but 2nd Spotlight screwed me it have me base Zabu card which converted to Nick Fury Variant so basically I didn’t get any new Card and out of all other Caches I opened it only have me Sandman Variant and I already had Sandman and everything else was Avatar or 50 to 100 Tokens so no more 600 Tokens or Gold just trash 🤦🏽♂️
Watching you pull the Jean Grey first try made me want to open mine and hopefully get as lucky. Pulled Ghost Spider as my S4/5 card but since I had it already I got a Psylocke variant instead. Got Jean Grey on my second pull though

Welcome to the chests with 50 Collectors tokens, boo :) I could guess that after many people complain about the new system the card prices will go down to 1500 and 4000 collectors tokens. At first, the new design looks cool, but the catch is that the Spotlight cache bins are once in 200 collectors levels which takes around 5000 credits to get. I've been saving my credits for this moment, and it turns out there is a 10K max limit, I spent half of them after the update only to get Living Tribunal, which is a card that almost nobody plays in the current Meta. I've seen your and Cozy videos about the new system and it looked like a trade-off, but now I've seen it personally, I would prefer getting the collectors tokens and buying the card I want, instead of a 25% chance to a random card I don't care about. At least to me, Second Dinner pretended that they are listening to the regular players and that players can't get/purchase the new cards, so they decided to change the system with a new one that rips the players off even more. I understand that they have to make money and this is a business, but as much I like what they achieved with the game, I really dislike their monetization system. It's not like I don't want to spend money on the game, I spend money on Riot's points as well, but I feel that their system is not matured yet, and often people that spend money on specific cards could get scammed after a serious nerf to it, as it becomes unusable. The time will tell, but so far I don't like the change.

This new system SUCKS. You dont want to open these boxes UNLESS you have 4 em of to garuantee a card. If there are cards you already have.. you get variants.. still NO new cards UNLESS you have 4 boxes in THAT particular week.. They made it SUPER P2W, Because now you want CREDITS over anything els to get those boxes.. Also NO Collector tokens/gold from normal cashes? Meaning you get LESS when having a complete/near complete collection.. We also dont get new series 3 free cards since they deceide to NOT downgrade cards.. The RANDOM series 4/5 card CAN be a dupe that turns into another variant? LOL.. not even a new card you dont own? Wtf is this garbage.
I should have done the same. I got JG on the first one, but I already have Knull but I wanted that variant so bad. I opened two more and got Darkhawk(already owned, converted to a Korg Hipp variant), and then I got Tribunal. Now I don’t even want to open ANOTHER spotlight because then I won’t have enough for next week lol.

It's the normal Invisible Woman with MODOK and Hela behind her, but it also makes it more reliable. Using Infinaut and Tribunal to make sure the power is spread right. But to also make sure you draws the specific cards you need, putting down Adam Warlock with Sunspot/Nebula/Ebony Maw guarantees a few needed draws while America Chavez is pushing them out too. With a good backup play using Nick Fury and Dino, but also using Nick to fill your hand with 6 costs for MODOK to kill and Hela to bring back. Getting a random PMV instead of the s4/s5 that you pulled flat out sucks. For people who are S3 complete and working through S4/S5, this system blows hard compared to the pre-April system. It seems pretty good for new players... which haven't been hurt by SD enough, so they're eager to spend some money... Got to hand it to SD they know how to create a predatory system.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to stop playing, but my spending has gone from like $50 a month during March/April to $10-15 a month during May-July, and I guess I won't be increasing that until things get better.
Someone at second dinner wanted to leave early. Getting a base card just to convert is a extra screen that makes no sense. It’s already on the code to NOT receive a dupe of a owned card. But they forgot to include that in the mystery variant.

That's what I did, and now I regret it. If I have spent the credits to convert them into collector tokens I'd had enough for 3x6000 ct which will give me the best 3 cards I want. Now, once a week I could get to a random card that I might not care about.

They better remove the ability to get a dupe, whether they change the reward or just make it so there’s only 3 per week. Either way that just seems really unfun. Generally excited for spotlight caches besides that though
Here's what made me the maddest. I did get the low roll and it gave me ghost spider, which rolled into a chibi colossus instead of a ghost spider variant

This new system is good at least for me. 33 caches saved, three spotlights I haven’t opened yet, the other 30 gave me 8 series 3 cards, 2 variants, and almost enough tokens to buy Jean from the shop. Normally I’d go for the pull but I want that artgerm variant without having to burn 5+ caches.
From getting 5000 tokens to getting 800 seems pretty rough, even with spotlight caches. Because with tokens you can get a card you choose and don't have a 25% chance. Idk
hey alex, im in the exact same situation u are, and have all the cards... and i think i understand how all this works, however something interesting happened. i didn't draw a any of the premium varients (knull, tribunal, or jean grey), and instead drew my s4/5 card, but since i was series complete, i somehow ended up with a Dan Hipp Swarm, which to my knowledge is a rare 700 gold varient of a 3-series card. not sure how this makes sense. i really want that artgerm jean grey, as i too spent the 6k tokens so i could get it, but now it feels like i just spent 6k tokens (which are a lot rarer now) to get a rando swarm varient. I hope this 4th 's4/5 card or varient is actually something you WANT to get as again, getting the dan hipp swarm didn't feel so good. When u put up glenn's message on discord and it says in a future patch all will be series 4/5 premium varients does that mean this patch or this coming patch? but yeah, the second i get the card/varient i want, ill be holding my caches till the next week... september for sure! Stoked on a lot of the premium varients, that all seem to be 'new'.
edit: just watched u get that shitty old 700 cost rare forge. it is not a 'premium mystery varient'. premium mystery varients should be different than those...
That 25% chance at a card you already have is super icky. So either you have to deal with unopened caches, with a flashing red dot in your face, or you open everything and get bad RNG luck and never open a new card again. This is a super feels bad mechanic and also quietly released a new "buy series 5 for $300" option at the same time. I know they have to move the numbers around to fix acquisition, but did they not foresee the optics of this change? I do think the negative emotions this invokes will hurt the game in the long run.

Would like to hear some advise on spotlight caches. First off I’m completely free 2 play. I don’t have any of the week 1 cards and think it would be cool to get Jean Grey. For week 2 I really want echo, but I do already have iron lad. Pretty indifferent about Kang but wouldn’t mind getting him. For week 3 I’ve been trying to get darkhawk for months but I do already have high evo. Finally for week 4, I have thanos and master mold already but mirage seems pretty cool. I currently have 5 unopened spotlight caches and was wondering what your thoughts are.
the 50 collectors tokens feels terrible! But I see a lot of people getting tilted by the PMV for the duplicate S4/S5 card. I think if they changed it to be a random variant for the duplicate card itself, it would not be nearly as tilting. That said, adjust the 50 collector tokens, that's hot garbage.
The random series 4/5 getting swapped for a FORGE variant really threw me for a loop. Do you think that's because you already claimed the premium Knull variant? In other words: If you don't have the card, you get the card If you have the card and pull again, you get the premium variant If you have the premium variant and you pull again, you get a random variant?

My Mystery Drop kind of tilted me. Got my 4th Bishop variant. They need to change something with that. Pulling a card you already own and then having to convert it feels horrible. Like I do not want to pull cards I already have. You should just have me pull a variant instead. Pulling Spider-Ham again and having to convert the card just pissed me off.
I really thought the premium mystery variant would at least be a variant of the series 4 or 5 card you were unfortunate enough to pull a dupe of. The fact that your random series 4 or 5 card can turn into a variant for any card feels so, so bad.
I got screwed 🤦🏽♂️only got Knull Variant off first Spotlight and Zabu base card which Convert to Nick Fury Variant off 2nd Spotlight and to be clear I already owned those Cards before the only difference is its a Variant
I don't understand why the odds increase for the card you target. If you get a card you did not want, it will be replaced with a variant from that point onward... So it's just a flat 25% chance at any time, right? Why do you think the chance increases to get the card you want towards 100%. Am I missing something?

It's the normal Invisible Woman with MODOK and Hela behind her, but it also makes it more reliable. Using Infinaut and Tribunal to make sure the power is spread right. But to also make sure you draws the specific cards you need, putting down Adam Warlock with Sunspot/Nebula/Ebony Maw guarantees a few needed draws while America Chavez is pushing them out too. With a good backup play using Nick Fury and Dino, but also using Nick to fill your hand with 6 costs for MODOK to kill and Hela to bring back. Just be careful of Destroyer and Arnim Zola.

Good grief, it was like christmas and birthday combined! First 2 Spotlights were Jean Grey and Knull and a bunch of Series 3 in the caches. Leader, Shuri, Polaris, Black Bolt. Got Wasp and Goose too but already had them from Season Pass. And 2 nice variants for Mister Negative and Bishop. Yes, I´m happy.

Getting a random PMV instead of the s4/s5 that you pulled flat out sucks. For people who are S3 complete and working through S4/S5, this system blows hard compared to the pre-April system. It seems pretty good for new players... which haven't been hurt by SD enough, so they're eager to spend some money... Got to hand it to SD they know how to create a predatory system.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to stop playing, but my spending has gone from like $50 a month during March/April to $10-15 a month during May-July, and I guess I won't be increasing that until things get better.
I got all the new cards I'm happy without having to save tokens I'm happy.
Someone at second dinner wanted to leave early. Getting a base card just to convert is a extra screen that makes no sense. It’s already on the code to NOT receive a dupe of a owned card. But they forgot to include that in the mystery variant.
I really hope they will add a feature to sell cards for ct now, so we could get gid of the dumb variants and especially the pixel ones.

Alex i got 3k tokens and 600 gold before updating! And after updating I got Knull and Jean in 2 boxes!! Still got one box left I got so lucky!
I also bought Jean to unlock her Variant easier. Got the Varient on my first try.

That's what I did, and now I regret it. If I have spent the credits to convert them into collector tokens I'd had enough for 3x6000 ct which will give me the best 3 cards I want. Now, once a week I could get to a random card that I might not care about.

I opened all my non spotlights reserves before updating. Got 2 series 4 cards and a variant. Updated and opened 1 of my 3 spotlights and got Jean.
This new system is good at least for me. 33 caches saved, three spotlights I haven’t opened yet, the other 30 gave me 8 series 3 cards, 2 variants, and almost enough tokens to buy Jean from the shop. Normally I’d go for the pull but I want that artgerm variant without having to burn 5+ caches.

From getting 5000 tokens to getting 800 seems pretty rough, even with spotlight caches. Because with tokens you can get a card you choose and don't have a 25% chance. Idk

When your looking at your cards, how do you know what rarity each card is? Would be nice to know which variant is rare, super rare, etc.
My first roll was a dupe, I was pretty upset haha. I did get a cool variant, but not as cool as a new card

hey alex, im in the exact same situation u are, and have all the cards... and i think i understand how all this works, however something interesting happened. i didn't draw a any of the premium varients (knull, tribunal, or jean grey), and instead drew my s4/5 card, but since i was series complete, i somehow ended up with a Dan Hipp Swarm, which to my knowledge is a rare 700 gold varient of a 3-series card. not sure how this makes sense.
i really want that artgerm jean grey, as i too spent the 6k tokens so i could get it, but now it feels like i just spent 6k tokens (which are a lot rarer now) to get a rando swarm varient. I hope this 4th 's4/5 card or varient is actually something you WANT to get as again, getting the dan hipp swarm didn't feel so good. When u put up glenn's message on discord and it says in a future patch all will be series 4/5 premium varients does that mean this patch or this coming patch?
but yeah, the second i get the card/varient i want, ill be holding my caches till the next week... september for sure! Stoked on a lot of the premium varients, that all seem to be 'new'.

I feel like this system has more potential for "higher highs" as it were, and lower lows.
I pulled Tribual on pull 1 and Jean pull 2. So I can just hold my caches for next week now.
That 25% chance at a card you already have is super icky.
So either you have to deal with unopened caches, with a flashing red dot in your face, or you open everything and get bad RNG luck and never open a new card again.
This is a super feels bad mechanic and also quietly released a new "buy series 5 for $300" option at the same time. I know they have to move the numbers around to fix acquisition, but did they not foresee the optics of this change? I do think the negative emotions this invokes will hurt the game in the long run.

Would like to hear some advise on spotlight caches. First off I’m completely free 2 play. I don’t have any of the week 1 cards and think it would be cool to get Jean Grey. For week 2 I really want echo, but I do already have iron lad. Pretty indifferent about Kang but wouldn’t mind getting him. For week 3 I’ve been trying to get darkhawk for months but I do already have high evo. Finally for week 4, I have thanos and master mold already but mirage seems pretty cool. I currently have 5 unopened spotlight caches and was wondering what your thoughts are.
the 50 collectors tokens feels terrible! But I see a lot of people getting tilted by the PMV for the duplicate S4/S5 card. I think if they changed it to be a random variant for the duplicate card itself, it would not be nearly as tilting.
That said, adjust the 50 collector tokens, that's hot garbage.

The random series 4/5 getting swapped for a FORGE variant really threw me for a loop. Do you think that's because you already claimed the premium Knull variant? In other words:
If you don't have the card, you get the card
If you have the card and pull again, you get the premium variant
If you have the premium variant and you pull again, you get a random variant?
So are we getting random variants from the regular collector caches then? I'm not just gonna spend money for gold to buy variants.
The fact that getting a duplicate s4/s5 gives you a *random* variant of *any* card, not just of the s4/s5 you randomly pulled feels even worse

My Mystery Drop kind of tilted me. Got my 4th Bishop variant. They need to change something with that. Pulling a card you already own and then having to convert it feels horrible. Like I do not want to pull cards I already have. You should just have me pull a variant instead. Pulling Spider-Ham again and having to convert the card just pissed me off.
I really thought the premium mystery variant would at least be a variant of the series 4 or 5 card you were unfortunate enough to pull a dupe of. The fact that your random series 4 or 5 card can turn into a variant for any card feels so, so bad.

I don't understand why the odds increase for the card you target. If you get a card you did not want, it will be replaced with a variant from that point onward... So it's just a flat 25% chance at any time, right? Why do you think the chance increases to get the card you want towards 100%. Am I missing something?
They turn into variants after you’ve opened the spotlights four time or if you already had some the cards
