Between the two ways to fight Phalanx, I like the long way better. It's tedious, but image how afraid this demon must be. You are moving from pillar to pillar and slowly picking off it's allies one by one. That's what I call badass.
I noticed that I left something out in the script for the Dirty Colossus fight which makes what I do seem contradictory to what I say. I explicitly say to not attack after he does a single punch yet you see me constantly do that. What I meant is that since he can do a three hit combo, you cannot just go in for an attack after he does a single punch. However when he does a single punch and he puts he arm to his side again, then you know there won't be a follow up, since when he does a three hit combo, the second will start before his arm is at rest again (the 2nd swing is basically a backhanded attack). So especially with the spear you CAN safely counterattack after a single punch as long as you pay attention to whether his arm moves back to its rest position.

I've played all the non-exclusive souls game (sekiro and ds2 being my favorite) and am not unfamiliar with SL1 runs, though I've never completed one. Ay nice timing. I started an SL1 run a few days ago. I want to see how I fare without guides as best I can. I look forward to seeing how my run compares to yours
Just finished my run. My route was quite different. After Phalanx, I went right to 4-1 to get the crescent falchion. Decided to kill adjudicator while I was there cuz why not (actually died a handful of times here bc of some unfavorable positioning). Didn't know about that skip. I just resorted to running past most of the skeletons. Afterwards, made my way to 2-1 and worked all the way through the area, unlocking Ed and killing the armored spider with the crescent falchion. At this point I started to grind some dragon stone shards as I worked through 2-2. I then stubbornly challenged Flamelurker over and over till I got good and finally killed the bastard. He was probably the hardest boss in the run for me except for maybe Man-eaters and Old King Allant. Made quick work of Dragon God. Upgraded a short sword to plus 5 down the dragon path using the pure dragon stone I got from Dragon God, which is the weapon I used for the rest of the run. Decided to test out my new weapon in 1-2 by absolutely destroying the tower knight. Then went to 3 and worked my way through the whole area. Man-eaters were a pain till I learned that it was easier to free cam them. Also, unlike you, I never bothered cutting the tail, since whenever they go into the power up animation you can get in some free hits. If you just hit them from the front you can cancel the power up. It's also a nice window to heal if need be. Kicked Old Monk's ass without much problems (getting to the boss fog was harder than killing him lol). Went to 4-2. I was a bit uncertain of how to progress at this point since I knew the laser ghosts would be a huge problem. Then I remembered that soul remains exist. You don't actually have to free aim that first laser ghost on the stairs. If you lock onto him and toss a soul remains directly at him, he'll still turn around. I liked to use a soul remains on that second ghost just to be safe. If you throw it right, you can also distract the grim reaper too allowing for an easy kill. The last grim reaper was pretty inconsistent. I usually would just yeet soul remains in his general direction till he crawled out of his corner and then run and kill the bastard as fast as I can. Old Hero wasn't too bad. Died a few times bc of wonky camera and decided to just free cam him, which made the fight significantly easier. Storm King wasn't an issue. Valley of Defilement sucked balls. Died quite a few times on the path to the Leech monger. Thankfully I killed him on my first try. Swamp of Sorrow proved to be even more agonizing. I pretty much resorted to running past most of the enemies (which surprisingly isn't too difficult) up until the island with the two Giants and the poison guy. At that point I just threw two soul remains in their general direction and ran for my life. I pretty much ended up running past most of the enemies in the village section, praying that they wouldn't kill me. Eventually, I opened up the short cut and kicked the Dirty Colossus's ass. I chain parried Garl Vinland to death. Returned to 1-3. Used soul remains to distract the spear knights. Kicked the Penetrators ass, much to my surprise. I was worried that he would be one of the harder fights but he really wasn't that bad. My strategy was pretty similar to yours, except I would also attack him after his double spin attack. It isn't that hard to consistently dodge and I find it easier to get hits in after that attack then after his charge/lunge attack. Killed the red phantoms in 1-4 cuz why not. Used soul remains to distract the enemies in the staircase section. Then proceeded to die to Old King Allant a bunch of times before getting good and snatching the victory. Overall, a pretty fun run. It was easier in some places than I was expecting, while others were more challenging, but on the whole it wasnt too bad

Before this Guide, my life was sad and grey... I cryed every day in pain. Now after watching and trying this, I'm a new man. Joy has return, I'm happy and the sun has returned. I approve this guide. You all should buy.. I mean, watch it.
My buddies and I JUST finished our co-op playthrough of this game last night (first playthrough at all for two of us).
Super cool to now see how much we COULD have broken the game...although, since I was using a Sticky Compound Longbow, we did find out just how many enemies/bosses were vulnerable to being shot from way over there.

If anyone is struggling to get through the mind flyers at 1:31:26 I recommend you got into hyper mode using the clever rats ring since your gonna get one shot anyways. It helped me out a lot

Fun Fact: I actually managed to push Yurt over the edge with that exact backstab. The funny thing ist, that his remains ended up floating in the air midway down the "sewers" so i had to restart the game to make them appear on the elevator tower. Keep up the good work - love your videos.

I'm doing fine. This video was simply a monstrous task to complete, 100 pages script and 3 hours of audio to record and edit, so it took a while to get it done. But fortunately next video will not be that massive and I also will be livestreaming again next month
3-3 moonspear. In the remake the crystal lizards will respawn infinitely as long as you don't damage them. Any damage counts towards one of you 'tries' you earn from the bosses. Touching a crystal lizard is the only thing worse than touching a miner.

Also on a side note i would say if you dont want to risk not getting pure moonlightstone you can upload your saved data if you have ps plus and just "cheese" getting it.

Hey Press, when you mentioned using posion cloud on the named red phantoms, you should add that you need to finish them of with a mele attack. Because poison cloud counts as environmental damage and killing them like that won’t effect your character tendecy.
That's not the case? I've killed miralda through the wall and snuck a cloud on scirvir and it changes your character tendency.
*Edit: I just checked fextra. Is that where you got it from? Because I don't believe for a second that that's correct
@@PressContinue I've actually tried it (on reydell, scivir and selen). As long as they died to poison it didn't change character tendency. But I am playing the original maybe that changes things?
Maybe it's another Mandela effect type of thing because I could have sworn that I've used death cloud on Flamelurker before and that isn't even possible and I always thought the key to Frake's cell was the white tendency key in 3-2. And I distinctly remember getting my character tendency to white on SL1 by cheesing the red phantoms with poison cloud. So all I can say is that that's how I remember it but that might exactly be the issue

For the longest time I thought crescent was the better upgrade path for an sl1 character. Fml. It wasn't until I watched this playthrough that I found out moon was better. I tested it out and the moon falchion does around 20 more damage than crescent. Thanks for your information press! Oh by the way. I'm currently on ng4 with my sl1 character and hope to get to ng7 or whichever is the highest difficulty. Thanks again.

@@masremlap7326 No it's always been that way. People just assumed (including myself) that it was NG+7. But DS1 and Bloodborne also don't scale up to NG+7 but NG+6 instead.

I'm doing an sl1 run right now. I tried to do 4-2 without the thief's ring, and it was easily the hardest challenge thus far. The Old Hero is guaranteed to kill you in one hit with any attack, so that boss killed me more times than Flamelurker. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I finally won, but I thought I'd share my strategy. First, I used the fully upgraded dragon longsword, So I had less stamina to work with. You need to remember to always have some left for emergencies, so never attack more than twice in a row. whenever you attack him, he roars before turning to attack you. His attack seems to be determined in this moment, so after he turns, but before he attacks, you need to get around him and attack again. Sometimes you can fit through his legs. When he turns to you for his next attack, repeat. If he plants his sword in the ground, he's about to do his AOE, so get plenty of space before charging back in to attack. The worst thing he can do is jump away from you, because he will follow up by charging at you at high speed and attacking, which makes it very hard to get close to him without dying. I couldn't figure out how to consistently deal with him after that. Overall, this enemy is surprisingly handled best with a very aggressive approach.

This is an amazing guide but I hate how high you have the exposure. But I suppose being able to see is an important advantage in sl1
This game is dark as all hell, so I mainly use the bright filter PLUS extra brightness, exposure and contrast.
I'm not sure if someone will read this but I want to do deathless SL 1 with some restrictions for "monumentals" challenge. No clever rat, thief ring, offensive, defensive spells and weapons like northern regalia.
How would you approach it? Do regular SL1 and try to slowly learn playstyle with those restrictions?

I've always wanted to try a SL1 max ng no hyper no thief ring and no magic with no upgrades. I've been thinking about it hard for the past two weeks. What's the craziest challenge run you came up with but never got around to it or didn't finish it?

Just finished the ng playthrough and i finished half of ng+ but i wanted to ask if i should make a dragon mace for the skeletons on ng+5 of does the axe do enough damage
I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. It did use a dragon mace in my max ng run of the original, but that was basically because maces are cool. And on ng an axe is easier to come by.

This is an old video, but the Vanguard’s demon soul does get you a weapon. It gets you the Dozer Axe.

Man, this remake looks so frikkin gorgeous. It really needs to come to PC where people can mod in the original soundtrack though. That is still the best soulsborne OST by far
Also: Regarding Flamelurker... I platted the original and I'm not COMPLETELY sure I ever NOT cheesed him by hiding behind the bones on the left-hand side of the arena and shooting him while he's stuck. I THINK I did it once or twice? I DO have some memories of fighting him straight with the Istarelle... maybe... but yeah... This is the OG nightmare BS
Yeah that was one of the original flamelurker cheese strats that no longer work in the remake because the layout of the arena has changed. Same reason why you no longer can get behind him without getting detected at all

Sorry, I must have missed it but… where did you get the dragon battle axe? I took one from 2-1 and regressed it to no infusion, then spent teo hours farming for dragon stone, and now it doesn’t let me upgrade it to dragon infusion! Sorry to bother with this, this game’s upgrade system is so confusing
I bought the battle axe from Boldwin. You can infuse a +0 axe to a dragon axe at Blacksmith Ed.

Amazing Guide as always.. well everything went really well until the pure moonlightsone.. i just gotta say it, Demon's Souls is an amazing game and i love it, but it has easily the worst upgrade and resource system i've ever seen in a game.. its some major bs killing four of those crystal fuckers and not getting the pure stone.. even worse i couldn't even farm for it, if i wanted to... so fucking bullshit.. well guess +9 must suffice then..

As a WoW player, I am used to boss fights that take over 5 minutes hell there are some bosses at the end of raids that can take over 10 minutes, and that's with between 10-30 other players wailing on them too. It's not uncommon for a raid boss to have a health pool that is way over 10 million hp. For example on Heroic difficulty which is the second highest difficulty for raids there are some bosses that have 14m hp, 18m hp, and over 20m hp. Now on Mythic which is the hardest raid difficulty which also is set at exactly 20 players and scaled to such, the health pools can be way higher, plus there are more one shot mechanics. The last boss of the second raid of the current expansion has a Mythic health pool of around 132m (62.6m on Heroic), but that fight you only need to get her health to 45% on Mythic, 50% on other difficulties but that will still take over 10 minutes on average.

Ah, yes I hadn't even considered that to be honest since I never played as a male character. Kind of a weird choice though to make a piece of armor that has an extra function other than fashion, unavailable depending on your character. Then again, some of the higher defense sets like the silver and old king set are male exclusive, so there's that.

This is a fantastic guide, but watching through it, I noticed something. You see, I don't own a PS5 because I was not lucky enough to get one on launch, and I'm not paying some scalping asshole $800 for one, so I've been emulating the original, but I gotta say...
It kinda... looks better? I mean Bluepoint did a great job with certain aspects, 100%. The backstab and parry animations fucking rock, the textures are amazing and the gameplay looks smooth as fuck. However, a lot of the art direction just seems awful. There is no better example in my mind than 3-1 and 3-2. In the original, those levels were very dark and oppressive, with many objects being shrouded in shadow, making the greenish hues from what little light there was stick out more. The gargoyles in the original looked like tortured, pained demons, whereas in this version they just look like rocks with red eyes.
Dragon God looks cool in this game, sure, but in the original he actually looked scary. And I honestly can't help but feel like the music and sound design was more distinct in the original as well. While everything in this version is very polished and clean looking, it seems to have lost a lot of the visual identity that separated Demon's Souls from other titles, aesthetically. Oh, and the lip syncing and NPC faces in the remake are fucking HIDEOUS for whatever reason; especially Stockpile Thomas. They literally fucking massacred my boy.
Again, maybe I'm just a jaded boomer, and maybe this is just cope, but I really cannot help but feel that Bluepoint missed the mark on a lot of what gave the OG its artistic identity.
