    Great video! I've been tapping on things for years now and decided to buy a snare practice pad. Great starting point and explanations, my left hand needs more work than my right for grip and just in general. is there a way to train the left extra?

    • @sylaswebb-brook3990
      @sylaswebb-brook3990 2 роки тому +1

      Try just doing single hits with only your left hand (L L L L L L L) or maybe paradiddles in order to gain rhythm with both hands ( R L R R L R LL)

    • @Spladoinkal
      @Spladoinkal 2 роки тому

      What I tend to do is go through the rudiments and work on keeping the stick height of both hands the same. In your case this will mean lowering the stick height of the right hand to match the left. Since your left hand will be working at full force it will force it to get fast quickly while the right hand will get a breather until the left hand catches up.

    Is that the only way to hold the sticks? I have kind of short fingers, especially my pinky fingers and holding the stick the way you showed gives me very little pinkey control on the rebound, but if I hold them with my palm sideways, thumb on top, index finger underneath for the pivot I can get great control with my ring and pinky fingers. Is that ok, or will it affect other areas of my playing?

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  4 роки тому

      Yes, learn to hold the sticks correctly. Don't form bad habits in the beginning of playing. The way you are describing sounds weird and yeah it may work for you now, but I would imagine will create many limitations down the line.

    • @IanTaylorTravels
      @IanTaylorTravels 3 роки тому +1

      I would disagree. There are different ways of holding them and do what feels natural. You can play with the sticks in French or German style with your hands in different positions - this video explains what i mean best - ua-cam.com/video/CzSjJCKPBaI/v-deo.html

    Hey I could use some help, I've been playing drums for 8 years and only really play traditional grip. I've never really tried practicing rudiments until recently. I'm still doing the beginner rudiments but I always see people practicing in match grip. Should I switch when practicing or just keep the grip I'm comfortable with the most? Thanks !

    I have never drummed before but always thought it looked fun. I have 2 questions. Firstly, how far up the stick do you place your hands to hold it correctly? Or does it depend on the size of your hands? Secondly, why do people practice on the pad instead of the drum itself? Isn't the feel different? Thanks.

    • @bubbyghost2974
      @bubbyghost2974 3 роки тому

      Place your index finger out like your pointing a gun with your thumb up too, now turn it in. Place the drumstick on your finger finding a balance point, not to where it’s balanced in the middle but where the tip is on the pad lightly. Now wrap your finger around it, place your thumb down and turn in. Hard to explain through comment but that might help.
