  • See thevee.org. for more information on these events. This was the Winter session at Farmington Hills, MI in the Detroit area. What a super swap meet. So many classic pieces. Marcia and I had a great time. Shooting the video was a breeze. Everything fell into place. Normally I do not buy anything, however a retro guitar amp caught my eye. So, I figured why not. Glad I did as it turns out to be a very rare piece. So get ready for a refurbish series on the Premier 110. I plan to fully document the layout & schematic. And of course fully rebuild the amp. I love its style. My guess is a Harp player would fall in love with it. We plan to attend the summer event, so there is much more to follow. So, sit back, sip on your favorite beverage, enjoy the meet.

When I was a kid, I would stay with my grandpa over the summer. When he wanted to keep me busy, he would give me piles of vintage radios to take apart. The radios looked mint, and most of them worked fine. I took apart HUNDREDS of them. I wish I knew then, what I know now.

As a vintage stereo/tube afficionado and Ham Radio licensee/operator since 1976, the coolness factor of this video is 'off the charts'. But seeing the back cover of Rush's 2112 come into view at 46:45 just takes it to another level!

That HP-85 Laboratory Computer is a good work horse when paired with interface cards to connect it to the outside world. Back in the mid 1980's our company used one to operate the PCB Test Station for the multiple product lines produced. The different profiles were stored on the removeable tape drive and the test results could be printed out on the included 3.5 inch thermal printer. It was a 32K machine programmed in Basic, but did the job for us up into the early 2000's.

    Great vid.
About 40 years ago companies exported electronics jobs from the US to Asia.
Now companies like Apple, John Deer are deliberately electronically locking equipment so it cannot be repaired, again they now send items to Asia for repair.
That's why we only see old guys doing repairs these days.
If you want to support local repair shops and allow youngsters to learn how to repair things upport the legislation on the "righ to repair" your own equipment in your state.
Currently legislation in Maine is being stifled by big corps, show up give your support or write, e-mail your state representatives.

Around the Toronto area where I live Ham fests used to be abundant and sold lots of vintage audio gear as well. But the collectors have snapped most of it up and there's not much vintage audio to be found at ham fests anymore in the GTA. I've given up on them for that reason.

Terry, another great Expo video. I do find hope yet for our youth as evidenced by Timmy73 (channel ends in UC8DxtTIDprEELMsxa0LV3zA) and that young fellow at the end (the one with the box 'o stuff, not the one with the hat). I hope that was you offering to collab with him to get that prototype up and running after all these years. He sure seems to value the art of the hobby and definitely his great great grandfather. I bet that would be something he would be forever grateful for.
You ROCK! (to some Alice Cooper ;) ) Steer him straight Marcia!!

Nice bit of gear in the background at 3:58. Not exactly vintage compared to the items on the table in front of it. I recognized the R-390 before the close up of it. I got a laugh from the person saying "It's really light". :) I like the sign at 17:32. It is so true. I would have been tempted by the wooden plaque at 39:30 or the HP-85 at 49:20.

OMG Terry there 2 of those RCA pa tube amps there - back to back about 20 feet apart!
Trick would be to drag the lower priced one over to the higher - and then start working the high guy, to get him lower. Guarantee, the low guy would drop his price, too, before you wewre done .
Often thought mikes or amps or spkr drivers would be good to get this way, at a big show where duplicates might exist- because sellers all know a project today is going be stereo at minimum.

Closest big show is the Kutztown Radio Show, info at www.renningers.net at the Renningers flea market out back, two large pavillions full. its in May and September. Its probably the biggest show in the USA actually. Great fun and the friday night BBQ with the vendors drinking, shooting off fireworks and burning old radio cabinets is unique to all the USA shows (best if you know a seller to attend this ). Another show on the east coast is the Mid Atlantic Antique Radio Club (MAARC) show, its in June. Its in Beltville, MD at a hotel. Internet will find it. Its a much smaller show however.
