One Jew is Outsmarting Missionaries at Their Own Game: Rabbi Tovia Singer

  • Rabbi Tovia Singer is the founder and director of Outreach Judaism, a Jewish counter-missionary organization. It's an international organization that responds directly to the issues raised by missionaries and cults, by exploring Judaism in contradistinction to fundamentalist Christianity. Singer cautions regarding congregations that "are designed to appear Jewish, but are actually fundamentalist Christian churches, which use traditional Jewish symbols to lure the most vulnerable of our Jewish people into their ranks." Outreach Judaism was described by J. Gordon Melton in 2002 as an example of "the current state of Jewish counter-cult activity."
In this episode, Rabbi Singer explores where his passion comes from, why Jews for Jesus's mission is counterproductive and how the old testament is the truth.

He whose going forth is from the days of eternity will be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:1,2).
One who will be named "Immanuel", which means "God with us", will be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14).
He will give sight to the blind (Isaiah 35:5; Isaiah 42:7).
He will enter Jerusalem humble, riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9).
He will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12,13).
He will be crucified (Psalm 22; Zechariah 12:10).
He will die as a guilt offering for the sins of the people (Isaiah 53) before the 2nd Temple is destroyed (Daniel 9:26).
He will rise from the dead (Psalm 16:10).
He will be called "Mighty God" (Isaiah 9:5,6).
He will establish the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34) so people can know God by being born of the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:25-27).
He is now seated at the right hand of the Father (Psalm 110:1).
He is now a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4).
He will be worshiped (Daniel 7:13,14; Ezekiel 1:26-28).
He will return to set up the Davidic Kingdom when the Jewish people are ready to welcome Him back (Zechariah 12:10-13:2).

I first heard Rabbi Tovia around 2010.
Rabbi Tovia made me very uncomfortable, which was due to my own religious beliefs and presuppositions.
Sence then our spiritual journey has allowed us to live 5 months in a wonderful Jewish community in Baltimore Maryland.
I have been blessed to have spent 5 months in Israel at 2 different occasions.
I've have studied in several yeshiva classes throughout Jerusalem.
I now feel very comfortable listening to Rabbi Tovia Singer, for I know he speaks the truth in love.
I pray the heart's of those who are in idolatrous religious systems make true repentance and turn to the path of the righteous.

I am a returned Jew...I left modern Judaism which rejects Judaism. We are taught all Jews even Atheist Jews are Jewish except if we believe Yeshua/Jesus. Isaiah chapter 53 says that the one who will die for our sins will be despised and rejected by us. And I did that, yet His love broke through to my heart, now He is my savior, My Messiah and best friend. I would have burned in hell forever rejecting the truth. God is more important than lies taught against Him. After my becoming Bar Mitzvah I saw the movie The Robe, and it broke my heart, yet it took 7 years for me to yield to Him. ty

World peace has not come; and 4. The world has not seen God? There won't be a Second Coming: nowhere does the Tanakh speak of a Second Coming. I normally would not be posting this comment, but if you are going to try and convert other Jews, I will counter you. Used to be a Jew for Jesus? There were others used to be Jews for Orthodox Judaism and now Jews for Jesus. Your orthodox rabbi think too highly of himself. That's why he couldn't be bothered about his faith being adulterated because he thought that a rabbi has prerogatives. His cousins were looking for Jews to harm them during the war but he got cozy with his "cousins" and atheists, Derek of "Mythvision Podcast", but Mythvision recently mocked at Biblical creation. This must have angered the Lord. So much for his insight for dancing a tango with the enemies of God. That happened long before the war.
When I saw a group of Israeli soldiers dancing and praising God in the war I prayed that God is merciful to them and not angry with them anymore even if their rabbi was dancing tango with His enemies.

I grew up Christian in a denomination (Adventist) that attempts to keep some version of Sabbath. I often would ask pastors about Jewish Holy days, other commandments outside of the 10 commandments...I mean, that church did keep the 10 commandments and a version of the dietary laws, so why they did not keep all the other commandments was super confusing to me. Over time I began to study Biblical Hebrew. The church did not like this. I was able to find many misinterpreted terms and phrases in my Christian Bibles just by knowing how to read some Hebrew and using the Hebrew dictionary. The pastors did not expect for people to study, just to blindly believe and follow. These pastors do go to school and learn the original languages and texts, yet they continue to teach a skewed version. I would stay skeptical of any religion that does not encourage people to learn properly, and any religion that discourages questions. Always learn. Always be curious. Education is so important.

Please continue to learn from the Orthodox Rabbis, as commanded by God in Deut. 17:8-11. In the absence of the Temple, the Rabbis are our spiritual teachers, since they (and ONLY THEY!!) have been studying the original Hebrew scriptures all the way back to Mt. Sinai - something Christianity REFUSED to do, leaving them in profound darkness as to what God ACTUALLY said to us there.

One day, as I stepped off the train, a couple of people carrying crosses approached me, inviting me to join them in church. Me being jewish and looking Jewish, I respond, asking if they'd be interested in accompanying me to the mosque. It was quite amusing to see their surprised expressions!
In that moment, I couldn't help but draw a parallel between their persistent approach and that of phone scammers. It felt as if dealing with them required using their own tactics against them. Just like the other day when a scammer called me offering a great deal on an iPhone 14. I decided to have some fun and informed him that I already own an iPhone 20. Undeterred, he asked again, and once more, I confidently stated that I have an iPhone 20. He hung up, realizing that his scam wasn't going to work on me.

Rabbi Singer saved my life! "Long story" short edit, my family comes from Monterrey Mex, a city founded by Sephardic Jews by way of the Talmudic schools of Iraq just a few hunfreds years before, most my realives including Luis de Carvajal el Mozo (the first Jewish author in the Americas) were Jewish but come from the families forced to convert rather than die. Even though they came and tired to relcalm the Jewish faith in Mex the church AGAIN came and Luis and many of my family were killed the last around 1625, My father 86! (thank you Hashem) remembers the old ladies saying "why isn't the baby baztized yet?!" if it took too long after birth saying he's still a Jew. I was never baptized and have always never felt right about christainity from a very young age and always questioned everthing, non stop questions and everyone hated me and still do about these questions, then i found Rabbi Singer somehow and Jews for Judaism! and have never looked back along with doing Jewish genealogy that took our family back to the House Of David and the Ha Levi famly among MANY other historic Jewish families not only of Spain but also the writters and editer of the great Talmud.

Just a note, I was a devout Christian most of my life and never heard anyone talk about needing to convert Jews to bring Moshiach. It was our love for the Jewish people that we didn’t want them to go to hell. We were taught that winning souls to Jesus keeps people out of hell. Since then I’ve realized how great the lies were about hell, heaven, told to pray prayers about allegiance to the catholic faith tho we were not catholic, told the OLD testament was for the Jews of that era and was outdated, we had a new way, so many lies and ignorance. Just asking questions gets people excommunicated. Like why don’t we keep the real Sabbath? No more religion. Shema Israel, Adonai Elohenu, Adonai echad.

That's messed up! This is man made religion too, all building worships are: and only JesusChrist sets free.
That's why Yahweh sent JesusChrist to set his people free from the sins the world had them in, like the Torah,
Yahweh said, He have not dwelt remained lived, in a house temple synagogue building or church, since I brought up Israel (from the house of bondage or slavery) unto this day, but have gone from tent to tent, 1 Chronicles 17:5.
That's what happens from being in Christianity, you don't learn nothing! I'm glad JesusChrist delivered me from building worships.

As a deeply practicing Christian this passage might be some good food for thought. Matthew 9:14-17. In the parable Jesus mentions an old garment and a new patch. Who called Abraham and who died for our sins but God himself. From the Christian perspective both Judaism and Christianity were instituted by God. And it is clear in the book of Revelation that the Jews will persist to the end, along with the Church. Therefore we can expect both Judaism and Christianity to persist and be hated by the rest of the world as the world hates God. If I were to extrapolate this principle of old cloth and new patch then Judaism was considered the old and Christianity the new. God's plan seems to be to bring them both to the end. At this time Christianity has existed the same length of time as Judaism had at the time of Jesus (just around 2k years). That means that Christianity is now also considered old. Perhaps now the two can mix, or at least work together. Perhaps that is why we have many Christians learning from Jews and even some Jews learning from Christians. As to the concept of the Jews becoming Christians, well I say exactly how they do so if they choose to is up to them to figure out. Jewish Christianity looked different than gentile Christianity even within the early Church. Another passage to think about is Matthew 13:52. Also consider how the early apostles were a breed set apart. Their function was very different than the average Christian. Keep in mind they were all Jews. I've just begun to study this so these are just thoughts to be pondered. I'd say to ponder the things found in Scripture that have a dichotomy to them. I believe there is much to be discovered concerning the relationship between Jews and Christians for the one who seeks to find it.

I took it as a sign to look back into Jews For Judaism, which id discovered years prior, but never really felt like i needed it since i was already sold on Judaism 😅
I am so unbelievably glad I did. I have strengthened my faith and resolve tenfold since then, and that was only a couple of months ago that this all started!

Nor does it give low self-esteem. It says WE’RE ALL God’s chosen.

I am very grateful to Rabbi Tovia Singer for his human and humerous encouragement to investigate the Cristian view of Torah and Tanach as a whole. I used to be j4j, at various evangelical chuches, including Helen Shapiro's "messianic" fellowship in london. They provided the "love" I needed when I was vulnerable for a time, but it took 15 years to listen to my gut reaction that it was teaching the bible backwards and they were showing me conditional love, despite their preaching "unconditional love of jedus/yeshua". I learned how Martin Luther also tried "loving" Jews to convert, but he soon reverted to type of the Roman church to "show Jews what hell is like if anyone rejects Jesus". So did my close friends, except they didnt preach overt persecution, as Luther did, but they dropped me like a hotcake when they realised they couldnt get me back because I had learned Hebrew and read Tanach and Talmud in context and explained clearly why they follow a Greco-Roman cultural amd philosophical view of Torah.

Sometimes it is difficult to discuss religion with Evangelical Protestant Christians because they make fun of my Jewish religion. They tell me Jesus is God, it doesn't matter what you eat, circumcision is of the heart, prayer must only be spontaneous and from the heart and my religion is all wrong because it is legalistic.
But with Islam it is very familiar: One God (no Trinity), halal, circumcision, salat, sharia.
