Tool and Pink Floyd are two bands that don’t just make songs. They make albums that take you somewhere else. It’s just a different experience than 4/4 pop music.
Agree with all of this, except… I’m gonna be That Awful Guy Nobody Likes and point out… this is one of their rare 4/4 songs. Actually. *Pushes fedora to a jaunty angle. Wonders why he never had a girl or boyfriend*

Welcome to the 🌀 Tool has been my favorite band since they came out in the early 90s and blew me away. They do not have a bad song, as you will see as you hear more. First song I heard was Sober and I think you will enjoy it as well.

I remember seeing Sober video when I was a little kid. Oh MTV, those were the days!
Tool has 4 band members, the 3 musicians create the music first then the singer Maynard James Keenan writes the lyrics to fit the vibe of the song. Danny Carey the drummer is phenomenal, and all these guys are 60 years old now or near to it and still touring live shows that are unbelievable. I am 60 myself and have been a fan since they started in the '90s.
You're right, but I also believe Maynard has some influence on the musical arrangement as well. His other two bands Puscifer and Perfect Circle are somewhat ... they sound complimentary and influenced by each other musically.
True. I am fan since I first time saw Prison sex video on Mtv Headbangers ball back in 94'. Now I am 42 and I still head bang to Tool and there music new and old.
Don't forget that Adam Jones (guitar) is a professional movie make up artist and was involved in the making o Jurassik Park dinosours...

The moment your eyes closed they had you ..each album is a little different ..the sound design and all the little almost heard things really adds to the feel .. the odd time signatures are used to add anxiety or tension and its great ..it just gets better if you listen a few times

It's their most digestible track for new listeners lol. Simple time signatures, addicting hooks, enough complexity and dynamics to make them stand out from most songs made for radio, but not too much since the time signature/melodies are very basic.
The Pot is the scratch n sniff song of this group.

Yay! Their live performance of Sober is a good taste of seeing them live. Eulogy, Parabol/Parabola...There are no bad Tool songs. But careful watching videos. They go off in a totally unexpected direction and F's you up honestly. Audio- or Lyric-only reactions are plenty!

There is so much to go back to and uncover as you listen to a Tool song. Layers upon layers. A sonic puzzle box that’s so fun to investigate and unlock.
I’ve always likened this band to Rush and Led Zeppelin..dominating bass work and strong guitar riffs supplemented by some great drumming and swirling vocals. This band are a good example of ‘structured metal’, nothing chaotic or out of place. Just good strong guitars, drums and vocals. This is how a band should command your attention and focus..ultra strong musicianship. Sabina…’you don’t know what to expect’. Absolutely. That’s one of the attractions for a quality metal band…glad you liked it.

I get really heavy Yes vibes from Tool as well.. it’s definitely the bass, as Chris Squire from Yes was an absolute badass in composition, style, and attack.

I'm a 46 years old fan of TOOL for 30 years (since the "Undertow" album, 1993). Recently, watching and listening reactions to my favorites bands intrigues and amuses me greatly.
This said, I Really liked your reaction, first because you didn't stop the song (unlike too many others...), and then because we really can see on your face it's the first time, it's not fake and you really enjoyed it.
I hope you tried other songs of TOOL, and found some answers about your good and legitime questions about TOOL. If so, I'm sure you're now fan of this extraordinary band.
Among many kind genres of music and or bands, Tool belongs to my trinity, with Neurosis and Meshuggah. This three bands are each in their own way precursors (even fathers of new musical genre, like "Djent" for Meshuggah, or "Sludge" for Neurosis), and influenced many, many bands for 30 years now... Pfff... Yep, I become old...
Maybe Meshuggah won't fits to you (I give you only judge), so let's try the song "The Eye Of Every Storm", or "Under The Surface" from Neurosis. This band is not very technical, but extraordinary emotionnal and dark. Here too, the own judge is you.
Again, welcome among us, TOOl fans, you'll never leave...

I imagine after that you'll want to hear more tool... I guarantee you will not be disappointed. "Rabbit hole" is the most common term you'll hear... And they are certainly that. You can pick any song at random, It doesn't matter... They're all great.

Love the energy of this song one of the great sounds from Tool, but it's helpful to start from the beginning just to recognize the consistency of this band over the decades. They are a once in a generation kinda band.

TOOL's members are well over the age of 50 the drummer Danny Carey is 61 years old and arguably the best drummer in the world!!!
Definitely one of the best drummers he has a extra Tom or two I think that's why so many people think it sounds tribal.

I was so excited to see your take on this one when I saw the video pop up. Then hearing that you had no previous experience with Tool, I was just thinking, this was going to be quite the experience. I've been a fan since the mid-90's, and they've been doing this 1000 different ways since the beginning. Tool is the only band I consider to be in the same league with Pink Floyd in terms of creativity, and pushing boundaries. And there has never been any band as good at the build-up. Sometimes it starts with the first note, and doesn't break until the last few seconds.
Forty six and 2 is another really good song enjoyed the video 🤟🏼
I just stumbled upon this channel and this is the only video I’ve watched so far. I have no clue what kind of music you like but definitely check out every Tool album. Their music evolves from one album to the next and it’s phenomenal. If you ever get a chance to see them live don’t miss it. They’ll literally leave you speechless and melt your face off. Do some research on band and you’ll find all kinds of really really cool stuff. The band has been together for over three decades and has only released 5 albums yet they sell out massive venues all around the world when they tour. They’ll blow your mind. Whoever said the circus is the best show on earth is full of shit and has clearly never been to a Tool concert.
Maynard’s lyrics for the entire album 10000 Days are about his mothers fight with cancer and then her death. Her name was Judith Marie. Another band of his, A Perfect Circle, is really worth a listen!

The Pot is one of Tool’s shortest, most straightforward, and radio friendly songs. Seriously. It’s basically the beginner’s guide to Tool. If you want to ease in to Tool, you can try Sober, Prison Sex, Stinkfist, Eulogy, H, 46&2, Aenima, Schism, and Vicarious. If you want to step up to further complexity, try Pushit, The Grudge, Lateralus, Jambi, Pneuma, Descending. Keep in mind that the Opiate EP and Undertow LP was with a different bassist before they really got progressive.
