No, Dawn is not 'trying her best to keep this place going'. She's a manipulative, evil lunatic, who has created a nest for rapists who kidnap survivors on the street and hurt them on purpose so that she could 'save' them and they would feel forever in her debt. In my opinion, hospital's arc is totally legit. The writers tried to portray what would go wrong with an isolated system which would be relatively 'safe' (from walkers), but would try to function almost just as before the apocalypse; I think they succeeded to paint the orwelian reality of such system in a couple of episodes.
Remember back in the Season 2 flashback when Shane and Lori where watching Atlanta get bombed by the military? That's why there are scorch marks and melted walkers in the streets, because of the napalm.
I really liked this arc mainly for Beth's character development. She shows strength that no one expected of her. And you see a bit of a different side to Daryl, standing up to Rick by siding with Tyreese's plan. He's never really done that before and you have to wonder if his time with Beth changed his outlook ("there's still good people out there...").
One note: Rick actually starts to listen to his people. Something that he doesn't always do. This is much better than his "storm the gates" strategy. Also this episode shows so much growth by Beth and brings her a sense of confidence and pride. GO BETH!
Those walkers melted into the ground were from the bomb that went off in Atlanta during the flash back in season 2 when Rick was still in his coma and Shane and Lori and the others were looking on in horror as the bombs were going off
I get it, Steve - the hospital story has been my least favorite arc, but the last few episodes sets up the mid-season finale. Hang in there, it does get better.
My main issue watching the hospital was their system and personalities all just seem off and incoherent....but I wouldn't go as far as to say boring at least for me but everything has a purpose!
I absolutely love the intensity of every single relationship on this show. Every character pairs up with every other character so well even if they hardly ever interact. Sometimes they pair people up for scenes that I think "This is weird." but then it works so perfectly. Like Daryl and Beth and Carol and Tyreese. There isn't a single character in Rick's "Family" that isn't likeable and well developed.
1) While she didn't see it, Rick's plan nicely correlates to Michonne's realization that they've been out there for too long. When living in a constant state of fight and survival, you risk losing your empathy and humanity. 2) A season 2 flashback showed that the military fire bombed the city. That's why there's melted walkers. 3) Dawn genuinely wants to save as many lives as she can. She doesn't necessarily care that a percentage of them are abused cause she justifies things to herself that most of the wards and officers are happy. She's also still holding on to the false belief that things can eventually return to how things use to be so the atrocities are just a temporary evil. 4) Bob was genuine at first but from his perspective Rick and friends are the bad guys. As far as he knows, he can't trust these people. We've been following Rick from the beginning so it's hard for most people to see things from another perspective.
You are not the only one Steve. The hospital story didn't sit as well with some of the fans. All i can say is keep watching ;). Oooh, and the second half has some really good stuff ;).

I know I would. lol I love Rick, but thank goodness he listened to Tyreese & Daryl on this one. They can't go in guns blazing - everytime. I liked this episode quite a lot. It showed that Rick has flaws; it showed how much more confidence Daryl has, to be willing to contradict Rick's plan; it showed Tyreese's compassion for people he don't even know; it showed Beth's underlying strength coming to the surface; it at least showed that Gabe doesn't have anything under his sleeve but guilt & fear; it showed Maggie & Glenn's leadership qualities; and it showed Rosita being more than just a "hot pants & bootie call." A lot of character development in this episode, you just need to be interested in that, and not just the action episodes. You were making me sleepy, Steve - and I just woke up a few hours ago...🤣🤣 😊🌺🏝️❤️
I think you need sleep Steve. You along with your grizzly bear yawns look out of it these last few episodes. I wouldn't blame the script just yet...just yet. lol
I like this arc. It makes sense to me. I could see people actually acting like the hospital group if the apocolypse were to happen. I don't think Dawn's bad, that's why she helps Beth. But, her people come first and she'd do whatever to keep the hospital going and HER people happy. It's not that confusing to me but Dawn is definitely wishy washy. I do think the hospital group are WAY more believable than cannibals. Just throwing that out there.
17:15 Completely agree with Steve... the entire Hospital story line and even the surrounding story REALLY started to suffer. As a matter of fact, I continually lost interest every season going forward until Season 9, when I feel they finally turned a corner.
When you really think these people are going to kill you in the end, even the "good ones" can try to manipulate their way to freedom. Note that the officer didn't do anything once he knocked Sasha out? He knocked her out, and fled. Didn't try to kill her, didn't try to steal the gun, didn't try to get a knife to cut his way free.
Steve, don't worry about it. Most of us found the hospital arc as dull as watching paint dry. It was even worse for those of us who don't even like Beth, so there was nobody in those scenes to care about. I didn't care for the Governor solo episodes in Season 4 either.
15:00 dont agree with him beeing a "son of a bitch". From his pov he doesnt know this people and just wanted to try to escape as our people would too in the same situation. He didnt killed her or anything, he just wanted to get away.
Dawn isn't necessarily a bad person, but she's just a bad leader, she can't control her people very well. She's done some bad things but she's only done them in hopes of doing the right thing. This group harms people and then takes them in to work for them towards some greater good. It's like human trafficking in the Zombie Apocalypse. Out of all the villains in the show, they're definitely the most complex since they're not outright evil, since they're doing things for a greater good purpose.
I wasn't a fan of this particular arc, and neither were most fans, but loved the second half of this season. This arc was not in the comics, which is probably partly why it feels out of place. There's one season that's horrible almost all the way through, and it made a lot of people quit watching the show. I hope you don't when you get to it because it gets way better after. Would it be a spoiler to say which season? I kind of want to prepare you for it. Either way, if you get to a terrible season, just know that it's worth getting through to the other side. This arc is more like a hiccup. For me, at this point in the show, the Vatos and CDC arcs, the middle of season 2, minor bits here and there of season 3, and the length of the flu arc in 4 were similar low quality hiccups. I remember you liking some of the bits I didn't care for, so hopefully this unnamed season won't be as much of a pain lol.
Very confusing to the point you don't really care is the norm for the hospital storyline among fans. But there is something I always find interesting that happens every once in a while throughout the series and that's getting to see our group looked at as the bad guys by new people. But even that has nothing to do with the hospital.
I did have some issues with the hospital storyline upon first watch, so I get where Steve is coming from. Partly because I could not connect with Beth as a character enough to care about what happens to her, and partly because I think the show left things a little too late to explain some of the hospital's backstory and inner workings. The payoff is effective, but we do hit speedbumps along the way.
I think the hospital arc would be better as a book. There is too many times that things are very intertwined or convoluted before a payoff. If you blink or sneeze you might miss a detail that is important, remember when they brought the hurt doctor in. There were whispers and hints and behaviours that were so subtle that you almost need to rewind. Like the Clonazepam Clozapine story. Still enjoy though after many viewings bc all these details come clear.
Honestly the storyline isn’t the most exciting through this part of the show. That said it’s just all part of the process. I noticed watching this time around the captured female cop was real quick to see this as her chance to get rid of Dawn but the male cop hasn’t caught onto that strategy yet.
I agree that the hospital storyline isn't the best story of TWD but the mid season finale is a good one, and the second half gets much better. At least we found out what happened to Beth and now our group is on a rescue mission
Enjoy the emergence of the savagery in our group (and the beard). Inside and out. Blood stained, sweat stained animals on the street doing what it takes to survive. Of course holding on to some humanity. Great last 2 episodes.
Don't worry Steve, the rest of us weren't to thrilled about the hospital storyline either. Some parts are good but it drags too long. Season 5 could've been so much better if they shortened that storyline...Id like it better if maybe they just found Beth hurt, helped her and did it out of compassion and not make them "work for them," and then helped her find our group...and in ONE episode, then it could've worked for the fans. Overall I really enjoyed season 5, it's really good but the hospital stuff is what knocked it down some. Regardless I'm still excited you guys are on season 5, it's still an exciting season and hope you love it overall! Can't wait for the next one!
I dont think ur suppose to hate Dawn or this group but more notice the horrible wishy washy leadership and more so the journey of Rick & The Gang and how strong their bond and leadership is or becomes.
I don't think the hospital storyline is anyone's favorite tbh. I didn't dislike these episodes at all, but the hospital parts were probably my least favorite, even though I love Beth. I had no problem disliking Dawn though, even if she's a morally gray character.

I get what u mean about not hating Dawn, the thing is Dawn isnt the bad guy. To our group she is, but u gotta think, if we had been following Dawns group since the beginning of the show, and her group was the main characters, we would think Rick and his group were the bad guys. Any way keep up the great content, love u guys
I totally get your point and agree that to outsiders of "our" group Rick and Co. seem evil at times. However, if I had been with Dawn the entire time I believe ( and hope) that I would definitely not see her as good since she knows her male officers are raping the wards repeatedly and she doesn't stop it ( kills them ) to keep them safe. I know she only has a few male officers there and if they're gone she/they will be more vulnerable to threats from the outside but as long as she is allowing the rapes and abuse to continue she is at risk of threats from the outside AND threats from the inside. 😊
@@elementop6847 Oh, I absolutely understand what you mean and I get what Steve was saying too. Please don't think that I was arguing or disagreeing with you....I was just rambling which I tend to do more often than I should lol

I was the same Steve. Terminus we understood why they were what they became but a bunch of coward cops purposely injuring people to make them a captive workforce isn't interesting (to me) by comparison & Beth isn't a character I'm invested in enough to care about...so...
It’s ok Steve, most shows have ups and downs and this is one of the downs. But not totally hating the bad guy is actually a more realistic bad guy. Most people aren’t totally good or totally bad. To an outsider rick is easily a bad guy. It’s not as easy to cheer against people in the gray area. For sure.
Dawn is not trusted by bob that why he escaped, Dawn has charisma & energy, but comes out as overbearing nature, she only protect Beth to get her on side,
This is the worst story arc in TWD, I don't care what happens, never did, it's like they didn't know what to write.
Oh Steve, you're not alone on this one. I absolutely disliked the hospital episodes.
Hang on Steve.....Just hang on 😊
I dont think ur suppose to hate Dawn or this group but more notice the horrible wishy washy leadership and more so the journey of Rick & The Gang and how strong their bond and leadership is or becomes.
And how strong Rick and his instant decisions with distrust are becoming...i hope that makes sense
Trust me, you’re not only one who isn’t a fan of the hospital storyline. It will get better though.
A lot of fans didn't care for the Hospital story. We didn't really get a clear explanation of them. Only this crazy wish washy leader.
I don't think the hospital storyline is anyone's favorite tbh. I didn't dislike these episodes at all, but the hospital parts were probably my least favorite, even though I love Beth. I had no problem disliking Dawn though, even if she's a morally gray character.
Steve looked BORED this whole video lmao
Can kinda understand him though since the hospital arc is pretty slow.
"It's fine now..Why? Cause I am here to watch your reaction" holy snot you guys 407th like and 74th comment holy cow your blowing up hows guy going to get his comments seen..omg...lol and i'm a member of the team Jack of all trades..
Lacey love the woodstock shirt very cool !.....
Maggie has come 180 "Sit down or i'll put you down" holy hell i've been writing holy a lot in this comment ...
i agree with Steve on this...This arc is boring the next one is better ..Keep Posting and I'll Keep Watching
@@amyfender1 im not saying thats how i feel, im saying i get what Steve means
@@elementop6847 Oh, I absolutely understand what you mean and I get what Steve was saying too. Please don't think that I was arguing or disagreeing with you....I was just rambling which I tend to do more often than I should lol
Yeah this episode was a little slow and gets a little interesting it's worth the wait anticipation for the show to pick up speed does Walker's they were melted to the ground or cool looking best looking ones ever from That season
TWD is my favorite show, but the hospital arc is BY FAR the worst portion of the show. Don't worry, it gets MUCH better very soon!
Yo dixon is a beast
Understand completely. This was one of the worst story lines. It will get better.
I was the same Steve. Terminus we understood why they were what they became but a bunch of coward cops purposely injuring people to make them a captive workforce isn't interesting (to me) by comparison & Beth isn't a character I'm invested in enough to care about...so...
Not great not terrible
It’s ok Steve, most shows have ups and downs and this is one of the downs. But not totally hating the bad guy is actually a more realistic bad guy. Most people aren’t totally good or totally bad. To an outsider rick is easily a bad guy. It’s not as easy to cheer against people in the gray area. For sure.
Dawn is not trusted by bob that why he escaped, Dawn has charisma & energy, but comes out as overbearing nature, she only protect Beth to get her on side,
Oooh I have firsties
This is the worst story arc in TWD, I don't care what happens, never did, it's like they didn't know what to write. I'm glad it not just me, I have all the current season's and I always skip the Beth centric episodes..did I mention I hate Beth..lol. I could tell Steve wasn't interested, he looked sleepy, still love watching you react no matter what..PS the show gets better..😙😘😉
The hospital story line is a stupid story line anyway you guys aren’t alone in that.
Oof, I'm not ready
You're not alone Steve i didn't like the Hospital storyline either, this is probably my least favorite season but it picks up massively later on in the show so hang in there :)
Kneel befo general Rick.
Maybe he's a good one in he's people
You also have to look at in from the Bob the cop's perspective. He doesn't know anything about Rick or the group, only that they are holding him and his partner hostage. It makes sense for him to do whatever it takes to escape.
@@paulp9274 well said
@@paulp9274 I agree. I still don't like him, because he overtook Sasha, lol, but I understand why he felt he had to do it.
The hospital storyline was the worst in the entire series..
I don't like the hospital arc either. Weird. And the payoff was not really worth all of the time they spent on it.
Gabe won’t last long…..ooooooof
boy they are in for a surprise 😆
Please don't hate me..................................... I'm an ok person
GREATM
👫📽️🎬🎤
Such boring and unnecessary ark, just waste of time
This was probably the second or third worse arc in the show
