I live in yoga pants, a t-shirt, and sketchers. Being retired is great. And, living in California, nobody dresses up. Dressing up would be a nice pair of jeans, a cool blouse, and a blazer-type jacket with ankle boots and maybe a trendy necklace/earrings. Regardless, I always carry an expensive handbag. Being 63, I just cannot wear heels anymore.
Black Jacket Black is actually a harsh colour as you get older. Tends to wash you out and I personally think navy is more flattering to most skin tones.
I am going to be working on my wardrobe and a "fashion formula" is perfect to buy a few good staple pieces - I have lost 70# over the past 13 months and still have more to lose but I am actually getting excited to figure out what I like and don't like after all these years of wearing whatever was large enough to fit me LOL.
I definitely have a formula which includes: 3/4 sleeve solid t-shirts. jeans, black skirt, leopard shirt, shift dresses (solid and leopard), denim jacket, blacket jacket, scarves to add pattern and color, statement jewelry, a couple of belts, sandals (flat and wedge), flats (black, nude), a few statement purses.
Margaret I loved this🙌🏻Regardless of our age we can be beautiful. I love you said to support small business, Thank You. As I have said before we need you now more than ever. I think we as women see so much on social media on how to look and how to dress and if you can be your authentic self, exude kindness and I personally think less is more with make up as we age. Let you skin show and keep your hair healthy even if you are allowing your grey hair sparkle. Be kind because kindness is the most beautiful look. Have a blessed day Margaret and everyone 🙌🏻🍑Lisa
I totally agree with her list. I'd add the J Crew painters long sleeve tee shirts that come in a variety of colors. The fabric is a perfect weight for inside in winter and is so breathable, they are also good in Summer. I love them. I do love my black lululemon pants, awesome for walking and so comfy. They come in a light weight summer textile and also a heavier winter one. Thanks Margaret for your endless inspiration.... we are aging but it doesn't mean we're done living. Have a great Tues.
I love white shirts , They’re so versatile. Sadly I have far too many clothes. - I’m. somewhat avoidant and distrustful and have more of a relationship with my clothes than people anymore. Rollneck sweaters are my absolute favourite, usually with jeans or straight leg pants . In the hot weather I love linen . Hello from southern Ontario Margaret !
In the summer, elbow length colorful tees in pima cotton, along with capris, and colorful crocs flip flops. In the wintertime, 3/4 sleeve pima cotton tees, jeans, and a cardigan if needed. I've gotten out of the habit of wearing jewelry during the pandemic, and I miss it. Think I'll go put on some earrings. (Your hair looks so lovely pulled back like that, Margaret. Love it!)
I wish I could reduce my wardrobe but seem to need things for ‘different’ lives - animal care, work, casual everyday wear and more formal. Too many styles!!
I love blazer jackets, tee shirts with “V” neck cut is best suited for me, also love tunic tops that I wear with leggings. I’ve missed wearing my clothes this year.
Black leggings, regular in winter and Capri in summer, bluejean jacket, blue jeans, anything leopard print, and nice pair of sandles. I’m 66 years old and pear shaped.
I am so glad I found you!!! in so many ways your are expressing the future and at least what the future should be. Basic fashion formula, shop locally :-) thrift shops :-); accessories vs. endless shopping, any must have lists can be and should be modified to express our different personalities :-) I just love the way you see life. Enjoy life and simplify. I went minimalistic but not too far with it just making my life less cluttered and complicated with "fashion", "trends", "opinions".....HUG to all!!!!
I'm a little late watching this, I know. I was interested in what women wear--casual stuff. I've changed my ideas over the years and I wasted money instead of sticking to one look. Can't help myself. Now I usually wear black athletic pants (straight leg, mostly cotton), t-shirts and button-down shirts. Sometimes leggings. I also layer because I get cold in winter. But I don't care for anything bulky. On really hot days in summer I have to wear clothing that works for that season like cropped pants, t-shirt dresses. Sometimes athletic capris but I like the longer ones. I got rid of my shorter capris. I don't wear shorts very often. It's always a challenge to know what to wear. I live in a very casual area. Almost forgot to mention I own a few pairs of jeans I don't wear often. I used to wear jeans every day!
I’ve tried many versions of white shirts, but because my shoulders roll forward, the shoulder seam falls to the back and I’m constantly pulling the shirt forward. I intend to sew one to accommodate my shoulders so that the shirt sits properly. It’s a common issue.
Cooler weather ~ boots, jeans or black pants, turtleneck, long wool coat Warmer weather ~ sandals, black or white ankle pants & quality tee ~ great sunhat
...I am 68...for a wile now...I am in solid color only...I love to play with my jewelry, love pearls, they go with any color. Plus...I love to be light in my shades...in my opinion dark colors make me look older. Thanks for the program...enjoyed it lots!
I love your channel so much and even at my age have learned so much about fashion, family and life in general I love white t-shirts with colored jewelry and big earrings and bracelets I am 75 years Young and honestly do not feel my age I love to dress different and put different styles together and experiment! Happy a Blessed Day!!🌺🌹🌼
I'm a fan of Clark's footwear, have black leather ankle boots and taupe suede ones too, leather blush trainers which match a lot of my stuff, all very comfortable and well made to last for years!😁👍
Some of my basics- boot cut dark blue jeans by NYD, various colors of v neck t shirts, black under garnet camisole to smooth out the lumps, lightweight packable down jacket, packable down vest, medium weight dark green cable sweater jacket, black booties by Tom’s, Dansko clogs.
I am looking for a perfect wardrobe. During this pandemic I sewed, making masks to donate (over 2500), I also was making reusable feminine hygiene items to send to Haiti, I make charity quilts. Right now I’m taking a sewing break. Wardrobe: as my little luxury, I started buying graphic tees with sewing themes. I also retired some of my older tops. Unfortunately now my wardrobe of tops are mostly those graphic tees. I’m getting tired of them. I purchased a few things on line, only to discover they are too small or too long, or the fabric is not what I expected. I need things I can wear everyday for all occasions. I already have dressy things, those I don’t need. Accessories, I don’t need. What I do need is nice functional tops, in colors that I can wear. I look good in light bright colors. I have jeans, capris and jeggings . I admire the style and colors that you wear and the necklaces you wear. My body type is short, not quite apple shaped, not round, more square...?... I’m ready for a new look, your advice is well received. Buying on line has been a challenge, and trying on in stores, I think is not allowed. (I’ve not been in an actual store in over a year). But I will pursue. Thank you for giving me permission.
I have a couple of empire waist a-line dresses in solid colors that I can dress up or down, wear in winter with tights and in summer with flats. I also have some summer dresses in floral prints. I do wear pants and shirts, but the majority of days I find slipping into a dress easy, fashionable and comfortable.
For my body shape, I don't wear white or very light colors because they make me look like a big marshmallow. I have plenty of jeans in various colors, which is my daily style. I also have dress trousers for dressier occasions. I have winter and summer dresses and skirts. I love tops that don't require ironing. I have too many, in a variety of colors and prints. Yes, I have too many clothes, but I wear them all in turn and keep them until they go totally out of style. I have remained the same size for the past 20 years, so that's why I have such a collection.
Various elbow length tee shirts with matching light-weight cardigans. Stretch waist straight length jeans. Several colored overalls that look fun with long sleeve tees. A variety of tee shirts type dresses with elbow length sleeves. A black short waist blazer & one in tan. Several strap ankle low heel casual shoes; one pair of white sneakers; one pair of brown leather ankle boots; one pair black leather ankle boots. A black small plaid trench coat; a camel color zip up casual jacket. Several snow appropriate coats.
A like to wear a vest. I have many in basic black, gray and cream. I layer them over long sleeve or 3/4 length shirts ,sweater or blouses. They are an absolute must for me.
Jeans, sweaters (lightweight 3/4 sleeves for summer, heavy knit for winter), scarfs for every season and boots or sandals. I love my pair of red Wolky boots for fall winter and Wolky sandals are the best for summer wear and travel!!
My "uniform " post retirement is jeans that fit well (usually from a thrift shop), with nice tops and shoes. Clothes that are made well do make a difference to your mood and appearance. Jeans also look great with a crisp button-down shirt.
Ponte leggings, not so light weight that they show everything, and tunics for all seasons are my go to outfits most days. In summer I switch to capris or skimmers and long T shirts. I love dresses but only have a couple for dressier occasions. My black pumps have a kitten heel and I wear espadrilles with my dresses in summer.
I wore black leggings and a new black turtleneck, light weight, just this week but had no idea what wear for shoes? Wore white sneakers but black pumps or flats would have been much better!
My formula includes: long sleeve t-shirts, jogger & yoga pants, patterned short sleeved t-shirts, hoodies, black flats, crew neck and turtleneck sweaters, various dresses, all weather jackets and running shoes.
As one who used to spend a considerable amount of money on clothing in my youth, I now adhere to purchasing, a sylish raincoat, a woolen travel coat, two oversized sweaters, a few neutral skirts, and several pairs of leggins, winter boots, summer shoes, and neutral berets and purses. I brighten any of these items up with lovely colourful, silk scarves. I also try to purchase pieces which are well made, classics, and will last more than one season.
Margaret, I love the idea of a "capsule wardrobe". I don't like shopping, especially since my postmenopausal body changes. I do wear dark-wash or black jeans; I like classic pieces that never go out of style. I'd probably live in jeans or black pants and a sweater (winter) or tee shirt (summer). I don't own a dress. Thank you for sharing these tips. I'm actually trying to pare down my wardrobe right now. Stay safe and well! Rosemarie 💖
Hi Margaret, I very seldom leave comments these days, (our son passed suddenly last December) but you are one of the ladies on UA-cam I enjoy, Sandra Hart is another. I would like to add that your dusty colors, top and necklace are amazing on you, I too wear dusty colors not pastels that wash me like some ladies can and a few can still carry vibrant colors in their 90's. We are heading into Spring in the US, more vaccines available, businesses opening up longer hours etc. really miss our son that's the hardest life long challenge for my husband, older son and me, we are forever changed. Blessings and hope for us all in 2021!
Latressa, so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. .nothing can take away the precious memories you have with him..may God hold you tight until you are once again re-united. ❤
I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our son 10 years ago to cancer and parents should never outlive their children. It is so hard but you must grieve in your own time and way. Prayers for you and your family as you travel this hard road.
I like a color blouse w/3-qtr sleeves or short sleeve with black pants. I prefer a coat to be knee-length or thigh length. I prefer long boots with a skirt. I rarely wear a dress or skirt anymore.
I'm torn between classic style and eccentric madcap iconoclast. So I have a a basic wardrobe of classic things - white shirts (can't have too many), jeans - blue and black, khaki pants, black long sleeve crew neck t-shirts, turtlenecks... and then mad, colourful, blouses and scarves (vintage or thrift to avoid encouraging fast fashion), or crazy colourful pants from a local dance and weird stuff store. I don't do white t-shirts because they don't age well and turn into sleepwear very quickly. I have a horror of looking conservative. I'm usually half classic because it suits me, and half hippie because it's who I am. I'd go full hippie, or full Advanced Style (I follow a number of those women) but, sadly, classic is just better for my bones. Nevertheless, I let my freak flag fly somewhere, if only in my messy up-do or my oversize earrings.
PTL Margaret…good segment; I think of it as a personal uniform that works for me. You are correct about less space, avoiding waste which saves money. Formula: waist cut jeans, black dress, skirt, slacks, jacket, kitten heals, boots.
White Shirts. I'm with you on white shirts. Impossible to keep really white and fresh looking unless you always wash them on their own. I find them a real pain to keep white so I avoid them at all times.
Wow, I have everything on that list except for the wrap dress!? I also have blue and black boot cut jeans, brown knee high boots (Echo makes very comfortable ones) black ankle boots and bright white 2" sole sneakers. Brown trench and tiny, black jacket. I also inherited 2 velvet blazers from my mom that I wear often. Navy and Chocolate. Why am I always in sweats? lol I've naturally weaned myself down to a capsule wardrobe over years of traveling and moving it seems.
No black or white with my very pale colouring. Most shirts aren't flattering for curvy women unless to wear open as a shacket. Didn't watch any more. That's what all the fashion youtubers say, and none of them are my colouring or body type. I do believe in a capsule wardrobe, ever since I got a book on the subject out of M&S in the 80s (it's not new!). Love that top, Margaret.
Hello Margaret! I agree, having a fashion formula isca good Idea. Non 70, I étant clothes that will be wearable for years! Very Classical, and very zen. And only some colours, ànd plain. Juste some different colours with jewellery and scarves. For example I like your necklaces! (Sorry for the orthograph mistakes)
Keep it simple. that's my system. I don't live in a very fashionable place, and that makes it easier. If you have a waist that you can show, that speaks for itself. You don't have to be so fashionable when you look good in your clothes.
Margaret I liked your necklace so much I made one for myself. Today I found out you made yours!!! Maybe you should put directions on line. Would love to know all the materials you used.
I've seen suggestions like this before, but I like your explanations for each one. I appreciate the advice about buying locally and supporting local businesses. It makes me look forward to doing that. Also, I like you mentioning sustainability of clothing... it's really makes me think. The only thing I disagree with you about is the white shirt. It goes great with jeans, but if your jeans are jersey black pants, I can understand how that might not work. And I do like crew neck and turtleneck (in winter) tops, because they hide some ageing issues and make me feel younger. This has been very helpful to me. Thank you so much for doing this.
My basics are good quality black, white, grey, t-shirts, tanks, turtle necks ( either cotton blend or GOOD quality jersey that isn't see thru,or overly clingy. Black, dark denim, light denim, white and grey jeans. Leggings of course. Black moto Jac. Black classic blazer( not wool). Grey blazer, fun printed shirts, t shirts and scarves to match season and mood.( inexpensive, not investment pieces) . great black knee length winter coat, classic trench coat. Ankle boots, high heel boots, loafers, crazy color athletic shoes...whew I tired😂. Love from Pasadena( NOT that little old lady!!!)
Workout clothing. Yoga leggings, comfy tee or tank, cropped short sleeve sweatshirt. Short sleeved knee length summer dress (jersey-ish fabric, t-shirt style), smart looking hoodie, a pair of skinny leg jeans, and a pair of boot cut jeans. Light weight black trousers. Colorful, comfy tees for skirts & trousers/jeans. Jean jacket. Trench coat/leather coat. Collared shirt (pink or white) Shorts & capris for casual Arizona summer. Sandals, ankle boots, knee boots, flats, sneakers(trainers😊) Pencil skirt.
Thanks for all the great tips, Margaret! The 2 things I will never own are a jean jacket (unless I'm going to a cowboy campout) and pointy shoes. The word that always pops into my head when I see someone in pointy shoes is ELF. 😄 They just remind me of an elf! My feet are not pointy shaped. Why would I want them to look pointy? Also, I do like white shirts, but juxtaposed with my aging smile, they always make my teeth look dingy. Otherwise, I would wear them, especially with anything blue like jeans. I think they are clean and classy.
Margaret, I love wearing Dansko platform shoes. They are very comfortable and I believe I look a bit slimmer when wearing them. I also love low boots. I love colorful sleeveless dresses and add a colorful cardigan sweater if necessary. I wear colorful skirts with a sleeveless top for every day. I love my wardrobe and it is often purchased at Goodwill.
I discovered a fun for me formula this season wearing long sleeve base layer tops underneath a-line shaped tanks. I'm a pear so it works for my body type. The colors can be switched around for versatility and variety so I don't get tired of a small wardrobe.
@@sonabran4751 j jill is where you can search their site for "a line". I wish more shops would make this shape but j jill seems to be the main one I know of. They have tops and tanks and sweaters that fall in that category. They also have great sales. I typically wear their Wearever easy a line tank or the Wearever layer tanks.
I love your rainbow colored necklaces. I think you have to consider your skin tone when buying clothes. Black and white is too harsh for some people. Some people look better in earth tones. Wear the colors that look best on you!
I also can't wear white tees or button shirts, never liked how I looked in them and being slightly messy, I never keep them clean the whole day! lol I like boot cut jeans but they are harder to find. I like leggings more and yoga pants. Old Navy has some inexpensive that fit me well.I also like pretty cardigans, not frumpy with pockets.I love Asic sneakers in black and other colors and comfy sweatshirts. I wear scrubs all day and love comfort at home. I am looking for a comfy pair of ankle boots and Clark's are on my list to try.
Black jersey pants for me, nine months of the year. Color on top. Double breasted jackets are awful on me as a large busted woman. Wrap dress - not good for me. Shoes are so hard for me to find with my wide feet and bunion on one foot that makes it even wider. Love my flats!
Hi Margaret I really enjoyed your video. Would you consider doing a video on how to make those beautiful necklaces you wear ? I have your rainbow necklace and it is one of my favourites.
I love the feel of jersey too. However, I recently saw a photo of myself in my jersey dress and was horrified at how every lump and bump showed. Not flattering at all. Sigh. Now what. No pencil skirts. Can’t move around easily in them and they require stupid flimsy shoes to look normal.
Black Jacket
Black is actually a harsh colour as you get older. Tends to wash you out and I personally think navy is more flattering to most skin tones.
I agree! I’m looking for things that are brightly colored. Black is good, but over utilized. Also, comfort is my number one priority.

Yes me too. Comfort is simple and dress for church on Sundays
The States loves Clark shoes
I have a Jean jacket & a nice dressy shirt. Oh and a white shirt. But I love to wear the kind of shirt you have on today. I better get shopping ❤️
I agree, for me white shirts would just be asking for stains

Several strap ankle low heel casual shoes; one pair of white sneakers; one pair of brown leather ankle boots; one pair black leather ankle boots. A black small plaid trench coat; a camel color zip up casual jacket. Several snow appropriate coats.
A like to wear a vest. I have many in basic black, gray and cream. I layer them over long sleeve or 3/4 length shirts ,sweater or blouses. They are an absolute must for me.
Margaret, Just had to say that I love your hairstyle in this video. So becoming! Thanks for all your hard work and positivity.
Jeans, sweaters (lightweight 3/4 sleeves for summer, heavy knit for winter), scarfs for every season and boots or sandals. I love my pair of red Wolky boots for fall winter and Wolky sandals are the best for summer wear and travel!!
I basically wear what I like and what looks good Margaret. 🥰
I love mixing my jewelry (both costume and real). I find that it really creates a look that is memorable and flexible!
I totally agree!
My "uniform " post retirement is jeans that fit well (usually from a thrift shop), with nice tops and shoes. Clothes that are made well do make a difference to your mood and appearance. Jeans also look great with a crisp button-down shirt.
Yes Margaret I like V neck 3/4 sleeves And yes Clark’s are in the States.

I love the white shirt. You can roll up the sleeves. It can be a men’s Oxford shirt.
My formula includes: long sleeve t-shirts, jogger & yoga pants, patterned short sleeved t-shirts, hoodies, black flats, crew neck and turtleneck sweaters, various dresses, all weather jackets and running shoes.
I recently found a sleeveless white blouse that I plan to wear under the big sweaters. It has a collar and open neck for necklaces.😊
I love Boatneck tops.

I like a color blouse w/3-qtr sleeves or short sleeve with black pants. I prefer a coat to be knee-length or thigh length. I prefer long boots with a skirt. I rarely wear a dress or skirt anymore.
I live in the US and only buy Clark’s. Black slacks are a standby. 3/4 length sleeves are best for me.
Very valuable info..you get what you pay for..spend more..it will last longer..👍👍👍
I love the idea of white shirts but just can’t do them myself my basics are T shirts, boot cut jeans, skirts and I love bib overalls
PTL Margaret…good segment; I think of it as a personal uniform that works for me. You are correct about less space, avoiding waste which saves money. Formula: waist cut jeans, black dress, skirt, slacks, jacket, kitten heals, boots.
...sending sunshine from Barbados 🇧🇧......
Wonderful!
Would love to know all the materials you used.
yes, I ditto that!
Margaret, where do you get your bead necklaces that you wear on your videos!? They are gorgeous and so appropriate!!
Hi Patricia - i make them myself :-) x Thank you soooo much for your lovely comments!
And where to get the beads?
@@loriputz8563 yes I would also like to know where to get them, they’re very pretty!
@@sixtyandme Perhaps you would consider doing a tutorial on making your style necklace? Love and blessings 🙏❤
@@jeanjacobs9965 that would be fun!
Great comments..brought a good laugh...enjoy your true self!
Thanks for sharing!
Love this 🧡. Being Indian, my failsafe outfit is the saree 🙂. Otherwise, love the idea of spending more on the staples like pants
I wear jean jackets over dresses and in winter I love pullovers with a cowl neck, which frame your face.
Thanks for mentioning the White Shirts. They don’t work for me. I love boot cut jeans. So flattering
I think a bit of color (like a hot pink or lime green tee shirt) looks nice on older women
You can also get beautiful things from thrift shops/2nd hand stores. The prices are Amazing.
I discovered a fun for me formula this season wearing long sleeve base layer tops underneath a-line shaped tanks. I'm a pear so it works for my body type. The colors can be switched around for versatility and variety so I don't get tired of a small wardrobe.
where do you find a-line tanks? thank you
@@sonabran4751 j jill is where you can search their site for "a line". I wish more shops would make this shape but j jill seems to be the main one I know of. They have tops and tanks and sweaters that fall in that category. They also have great sales. I typically wear their Wearever easy a line tank or the Wearever layer tanks.
I have 3 pairs of slim slacks from Zara,s in Navy ,black and off white . i find they go with any thing.
I'm from New York and we have Clark's footwear - very comfortable and natty.
Love your videos, Thank you!
You have one of my favorite necklaces that looks beautiful on you..🤗♥️
I tend to stick with plain non patterned tops with trousers as I am short and busty so I wear broaches, scarfs and necklaces. That's it.
Haha- totally with you on white shirt Margaret😉
I love a crisp white shirt
Hello Margaret. This is a very good list. You look lovely today. Thank you.
The fashion styles that fit to the KIBBE body types make more sense to me than these classic tips (trenchcoat, white shirt, etc). What do you think?
what is that wall behind you that keeps changing?
I love your rainbow colored necklaces. I think you have to consider your skin tone when buying clothes. Black and white is too harsh for some people. Some people look better in earth tones. Wear the colors that look best on you!
I love white shirts! And I love Jane Fonda!!!🥰🤣
I love your videos and all that you say. Thank you!!!
White shirts are great if your skin tone is darker. White washes out your skin tone especially if you have pale skin.
Great video 😃 I agree I have tried white shirts they just don't work for me 🤗🤗
Your skin tone has a lot to do with your color choices. Hair color as well. I love crew neck sweaters.
I'm with you on white shirts. I just don't like them. I *want* to like them, but I don't. Ah well, onwards and upwards :)
You always look lovely Margaret , God bless! 🙏👍🥰
Very fun❣️
Black jersey pants for me, nine months of the year. Color on top. Double breasted jackets are awful on me as a large busted woman. Wrap dress - not good for me. Shoes are so hard for me to find with my wide feet and bunion on one foot that makes it even wider. Love my flats!
Tried "Maryland Square" catalog or on line for shoes? Lots of styles and choices in Wide
@@sandrabrisbane930 Thank you for the recommendation.
Hello susan
I like a casual dress to wear alone or over a bathing suit.
Hello Debbie
You look lovely here.
A white linen pointed-collar knee-length dress will look nice with your blonde hair, Margaret. Garnett Hill and J Jill are a few suggestions. 😃
Hi Margaret I really enjoyed your video.
Would you consider doing a video on how to make those beautiful necklaces you wear ?
I have your rainbow necklace and it is one of my favourites.
Great idea!
Love your youthfulness
I love the feel of jersey too. However, I recently saw a photo of myself in my jersey dress and was horrified at how every lump and bump showed. Not flattering at all. Sigh. Now what. No pencil skirts. Can’t move around easily in them and they require stupid flimsy shoes to look normal.
Demin jacket!
❤️
