  • Today I am doing some more resin experiments - what happens when you add salt and sugar to resin? Have you tried it before?
I haven't, so lets go on this journey together!

Now I want to get out of bed and see what rock salt does in clear liquid sculpey. This happens every time I watch crafting videos at bedtime! 🤣

Try a small mound of salt and Drip small amount of resin over the salt. Mix it into clumps to use as tiny rocks for geodes. I've never tried with "rock" salt. Will try that on my next project.

My idea was to pour the non transparent resin into mold and fill 3/4 of the way up. Let cure. Add a thin layer of resin then put on a layer of rock salt. Do not cover rock salt with resin. Once cured try to get rock salt off with your hand or pick as much as possible or put in water and let it disolve off. It should leave a druzy effect. Then brush mica powder over that crystal like surface and top off with black resin or whatever you would like. I bet the results would be pretty.

Cool experiment, I've often wondered about salt and sugar but haven't tried them so thanks for saving me the time lol. I love how the rock salt came out, I didn't even mind the bubbles on that one :).

Idea. Grow salt or sugar crystals. You can add food coloring to get a desired color if you want. Then put the crystal in the epoxy. Going to have to let the epoxy set some so the crystal or crystals do not just fall to the bottom

      @@fabfam2816
      1. mix 3 cups of sugar 1 cup of water
      2. Put it in a pot on the stove and stir continuously
      3. Stir tlll all the sugar has desolved
It will at first look cloudy continue stirring till it is clear and bubbling
      WARNING THE SOLUTION IS HOT
      4. Let it cool for 5 - 10 min
      5. Pour the solution into a jar
      6. Mix desired color of edible food coloring
      7. Find a way to hang a string or stick from the center of the jar into the solution
I use a pencil and painters tape to hold a Popsicle stick usually
Put it in by the window that gets the most light in the house
      8. Check on it every day to see the crystals growing I wait 5-7 days for the desired I want. Can take longer in the colder months. Don't move the jar if it can be avoided
      9. Enjoy eating rock candy

Per Daniel Cooper's experimentation put a little clear elmers glue on a cocktail stick and mix it in the resin. It will thicken it and keep things suspended in the resin so it doesn't settle to the bottom.

Do they disolve in water ? When they fully cured

    • @CreatewithSqudgeCraft

No, once fully cured the salt sugar are encased in resin and do not interact with water or any thing else.
