    In a lot of videos I see people making geodes using crushed glass. Literally has the same effect but much cheaper. You could try pouring the resin over the salts like you would sand, so you don't have that layering. Plus for coaster, it would give it texture to keep the cup from sliding.

      @bluefernlove 3 роки тому +4

      @@finkalo that can't be right. It's just magnesium crystals. There's no water in them, otherwise the crystals would dissolve. That's why there was no reaction.

      @@finkalo it can't. The chemical formula is MgSO4 to get water you need H.

    • @bluefernlove
      @bluefernlove 2 роки тому

      @@finkalo yeah but you have to take into account that salts are usually obtain through evaporation. I guess there's always going to be some water in them, depending on the process they were obtained. But the water is part of the molecular structure. In this case, the resin is too thick to act as a solvent for the crystals. And the heat produced by the resin is not enough to cause the salt to release the water.

      Does it compromise the strength of the piece? I'm thinking areas with a lot of epsom salts where the resin is displaced would make it weak.
