Nice to see you back talking about detectors, Loren. I like how you point out the impact of coil choice with regard to hitting a target. Our hobby is so full of fools these days that simple logic such as yours is always needed. I will tell you that I think there is a dividing line between the Deus II/Manticore and the Legend/Equinox. I agree with you that if budget is a concern, get a Legend or Equinox and you will do well. But head to head, at least in terms of the Deus II, my Legend and Equinox 800 cannot match the Deus II's performance. I have a lot of hours on both, and I generally hunt with friends who swing Deus II's. Both inland and at the beach, the Deus II beats them. Inland I will check targets that a Deus II hits solidly with both of my detectors and generally I can not read the deeper targets. At the beach, at extreme depth, it is no contest. The Deus II wins. I would say that in trash the Legend is very very good, better than my Equinox, but the Deus II is still better. Mind you, this is just my in the field testing here in Los Angeles. Thanks for posting, Loren. Keep it up! Bill
Haha yeah I keep seeing separation tests using different size and shape coils and it's a bit frustrating, but oh well :D I would agree, that the XP Deus 2 / Manticore are a hair or two higher raw performance than the Legend / Equinox, but its a difficult difference to capture in tests because its so small. Thanks for watching! I might have a few more videos on the way.
Thanks for showing this, these differences is why I own a few detectors. This also explains for me how I found some of my best coins with my AT Pro with a 13x14 coil .
Thanks for watching! Yup, coil selection is a great way to mix things up and find new stuff! I have honestly been considering getting a machine that offers something concentric since none of the flagship SMFs have one.
@@LorenLemcke My old Kruzer has a 7 inch concentric coil. The thing is a beast for separation as most targets (even modern) in my area tend to be fairly deep and the detection zone on a small concentric is even smaller at depth. I also find it IDs iron better, especially old bottle caps. They become obvious junk rather than tempting targets on the DD.
It might have also been worth mentioning the cost difference between the two as it is a considerable difference in cost. I fell that you are right as far as the performance they are comparable to one another and one may excel in some areas but not having to charge three different components to go out and the way they are built with different mind sets, going in a different direction as to what is important to each brand. There are other reasons that I chose the Manticore at this time but I hunt on the beach nearly all of the time.😊
Coils especially feel rather overpriced, especially the Deus 2's, but the M8 wasn't exactly cheap either. Beach hunting isn't really a thing here in Finland, but I'd imagine it would perform great there :) Thanks for watching!

100 % and great content , i have actually seen people testing 2 detectors with a different coil on each , and then concluding one detector is better than the other, one was actually by a guy we both know well, it was quickly taken down after i posted the comment. , changing the coil changes the configuration of iron in the ground in relation to a target / big thumbs up from me 👍
Great as usual Loren. I’m hoping with your video and the Sharp Shooters videos pointing out the clear advantage to the Manticore in unmasking targets around iron (for coil size or WHATEVER reason), that XP will respond with an elliptical coil of their own, or a software fix that give advantage the presence of non-ferrous under the coil more so than iron. I don’t think that’s clearly happening right now. You put it all in the first video you did on the Manticore - after all it is about having fun and enjoying the hobby first and foremost. 👍😉
The two detectors are really close in unmasking, though in a few situations the Manticore is giving the better TID, at least in my personal experience. Likewise there are some situations well suited to the 9" round coil too and the Manticore doesn't have one of those. Id love more coils, even a concentric. Thanks for watching!
The latest on the Manticore, but only v1.1 on the Deus 2. Haven't done the update yet, because according to the changelog its entirely about the deep seeker coil. Thanks for watching!
The last test has a very small target area between all the nails. Surely the Manticore elliptic coil is over the iron nails, no matter how you swing it. That demonstrate that it's not only shape of the coil, but must also be the software in the machine.
The last one was about exploiting the more narrow center band (in the DD config) on the smaller elliptical. The magnetic footprint of the center line also scales down with coil size. Honestly both machines are fantastic at unmasking. The Manticore does tend to give better TIDs though.
The Nokta score and double score could do as well? With the right coil and the Nokta team with their notorious software developers, their attentiveness, which is second to none and being responsive to their customers like I can not recall any better for approximately one third the price the marginal difference is de minimus. Nokta is second to none! The quality of their robust machine is unreal! Will you be doing a comparison with the new line of Nokta? Thanks for the video.
Nokta detectors almost always have the best and most varied coil selection compared to Minelab/XP. While I obviously haven't swung the score / double score, from what I have seen, they seem like a great detector for the price. Admittedly, I don't buy any budget nor mid-tier detectors so I won't be adding any Simplex / Score / X-terra type stuff for my lineup, but my friend has a Legend and I have gotten a chance to use that. Thanks for watching!
@@LorenLemcke I might buy that elliptical coil I love how these guys do all these tests this test is a perfect example of how much difference the coil can make
@@markkus1134 I havent had a chance to use it in the wild, the ground here is frozen and will be for a few more months :( but it tests very well and feels well balanced and nice to swing.
None of the detectors, Deus 2, Manticore, Equinox will hit that first test with a larger coil. Those are serious chunks of old iron, and having them arranged vertically instead of horizontally makes them much more problematic in terms of their peak magnetic response.
Right, am now puzzled totally, have just been out and replicated the first test, 2 large nails both running in the same direction, yet, running fast, both nails beat the discrimination, on your test their silent, I'm using v0.71 with 11" coil.

So deus2 with that specific coil is meant to "hit" deeper? And whats its is max depth? Thank u!
Maybe one day, one machine one coil that does it all. Most of us probably couldn't afford it. Thanks for your time and informative videos.
Haha, that sure would be nice :D Thanks for watcing!

It didn't have any success in the SensiFT program either, that is the one I use most often and those settings are more or less the same.
