  • In this video I go to Harry's Coin Shop and get an appraisal on some crazy coins that I brought in. I brought fake coins, ancient coins, rare silver coins, world coins, error coins, and even some gold coins as well. I was wanting to see if they would spot the fake silver and fake gold coins. I was surprised by the results of the appraisal and had a great time seeing the process. If you are wanting to take coins to a local coin shop or to a bullion dealer for appraisal then this is the video for you. I love making these coin shop videos and I hope you like watching them as well. Below is the link to my fake silver eagle video and the playlist of videos from Harry's Coin Shop:

      its very easy to spot most silver fakes even if youve only been dealing with silver a few times. silver has a very specific feel, sound, and luster. Coins are even more obvious because they are minted to specific sizes and certain prints.

      yea I don´t know. He was asking about an offer for the greek coin and was told oh we have one that is very similar here and yours is actually nicer (i.e. worth more). He offered about 100$. If you pay attention the one they where selling had a price sticker for 305$ and a couple cents. I get that a shop needs to make money but offering call it 30% does not seem very trustworthy. Even if these fluctuate quite a bit and are hard to sell I would expect at least like 50%, if they sell normally like 60% or 70% up to 80% if the price is pretty stable too.

    It's always a good idea to be upfront with a dealer about what you're wanting to do. Asking for their offer is very different from asking for an appraisal for insurance or for dividing an estate. Many dealers are very generous with their time, but don't abuse the privilege. If you're just going to sell your coins online and want help with pricing it's usually not cool to ask for expertise for free.

      @@kameljoe21 I personally wouldn't presume to speak for 'Most people '.
      When set up at coin shows I'm sometimes the only dealer showing and/or buying foreign coins. Many people do not know anything about grading and especially grading foreign coins. And, then even if they do and they know how to look up valuations, they may easily not know whether they are finding accurate or reliable information.
      And, as I mentioned there are different appraised values for different purposes.

    • @kameljoe21
      @kameljoe21 Рік тому +1

      @@mikebarushok5361 Generally people who are not collectors themselves will look up some or all of their coins online before they even step foot in to a coin shop. Generally these people know about how much their collection is worth and generally they are looking to off load them.
      You have 3 types of people. Those who inherited or found said collection and want to sell it off for the best amount of money (these people tend to have an idea how much said collection is worth from what information they can find on line) New collectors who know a little bit and are looking to trade up or expand their collection. Then you have the last group of people who are collectors and or investors who do not care what coins they have and only care about getting that last coin for their collection or selling off their collection to make money.
      Investors are the ones who know a lot of about the type of coins they buy and their value. The know when to buy and when to sell. j
      Generally those who sell off are in that first class to which I was speaking of.
      I on the other hand do not deal in coins and sell off any thing of value I find/buy. I sold off an entire collection that someone I know spent a life time collecting. Made a damn good amount of money. The only value I see in coins is their raw value as collector value is subjective to the markets and those who collect.

    The difference between a "Coin" and a "Round". A coin is actual currency, and in a last case scenario- is actually a redeemable currency for the face value that is printed on the coins face, in the country that issued the coin. A round, is just an ounce of silver melted into a round casting shape. There's a sales tax on rounds, as it is considered property. Coins do not have sales tax, as they are considered currency.

    • @heeroru7781
      @heeroru7781 Рік тому

      Depends on the country. The melt price of UK kilo coins actually dropped below face value for a while last year and the bank of England stated the face value was only "symbolic" and banks would not accept them as currency.
      I couldn't care less about their legal status. But I do like the security features.

    I love how the gentleman in the black shirt calling out the fakes used an eagle's "majesty" as a criterion for genuineness. That's hilariously brilliant!
    It's videos like these that make me really regret selling my entire collection (it fit in a large briefcase, I'd been collecting since age 8 and I was in my early 20s when I offloaded them) of rare and valuable coins for money to buy OxyContin tablets. $50 CAD per 80mg pill adds up fast, especially when you need two a day to just not be sick and 4-6 to really get a nod going.
    11 years off the pills and counting, now. Maybe I'll get back into collecting. After all, there's never been a better time to solidify your liquid assets than now.
    I sold the whole briefcase full of uncommons, rares, and even some very old coins and even rare, old, very good condition banknotes (all told, the coins were worth about 1800 to 2000 collectively) with a few 1/10th oz gold and 1oz silvers scattered into the mix for, drumroll, please...
    400 dollars. 😭
    Don't do drugs, kids.

Had it appraised by a historian of that era at $50.00 in the early 1970's. Apparently a hoard of the same coins were discovered since, and the value now is next to worthless! Everyone, my question is using silver to buy, how is change 'due back' going to work?
      1. If the place we use it, can not give change?
      2. When gets worse, those with gold and silver use that, but need change and there is no change. Will this be when bartering comes into play for what the other party would take as equal value???
      Thank you to anyone that can reply.

    • @langjr0
      @langjr0 Рік тому

      @@juliayelle2942 believe change is the reason you want to own some small increments like quarters, dimes or even individual grams of gold or silver. Even a gram of gold may be $70.-90. but a gram of silver worth similar to a dime, $2.-4. or so.
      I actually have some grains of silver that come laminated on like a baseball card or playing card, and they are engraved “1 grain .999 silver” ; you can get these for around a $1. each. These are quite tiny as there are 480 grains to a Troy ounce, and 15.432 grains to a gram. They are very cute little tiny bars of .999 silver. Maybe use grains to buy a soda or candy bar, lol!
