Did you read my new book?: "Merrill's Guide To Finding Rings With A Metal Detector" www.iratemetaldetectors.com/product-page/merrill-s-guide-to-finding-rings-with-a-metal-detector
Own a 800 with multiple coils and an Excalibur and have hunted since the late 1960’s and hunted with many different brands of detectors. Minelab multi frequency detectors were a game changer and I water hunted with Excalibur Sword for almost 20 years. Paid for itself many many times over. Just bought an Excalibur 2 Resently and love the simplicity of its operation. I now own a deus 2 and almost entirely spend all my hunting In the water or wet sand. Yes there is a learning curve and charging the unit requires some attention but the weight factor and possibilities in the settings seem worth the trouble. Yes it cost more than some detectors but in reality you get two detectors. I’ve moved the master from the wireless head phones to separate shaft And using wired ear pod headphones and running an antenna lead from the coil and locate the other end next to the master you now have a unit that is great for dry hunting and can wade in water up to the master Unit if I want to. Hope deus does come out with that larger coil they show in their catalog. One factor that everyone is equal with when it comes to metal detecting is the time and amount of area you cover. Doesn’t matter if you have a Radio Shack detector or a Deus 2. John-gulf coast of Florida
One thing I love when I use them, is the auto connect headphones. My friend spends 5-10 minutes trying to get his headphones to connect with his Minelab headphones, mine connects automatically when I turn the DEUS on.
We're forgetting that the Equinox has issues with leaking. I lost my Equinox in a rain storm not in the water!!!!! Rain!!!! The second had battery issues. If Minelab has another machine coming which they do I hope they take there time with this one and hopefully make in house instead of making them in Singapore using 6-9 year olds to put together.
Clean your coil contacts I’ve never seen that connection issue on mine , also check the prongs that protrude from the charger clip maybe one has lost its spring pressure. I’m not a fan of that charger clip but haven’t seen the issue you have shown. Best of luck !
Yeah I too noticed right away (I'm an electronics geek haha) how one of the contacts on his coil is so dirty/corroded it seems to have actually developed a copper like green patina. He should take a pencil eraser to that corroded contract and I suspect that will fix the issue .
Being an owner of the Deus 2. Worth $1,600? I initially thought yes, but now I will say no. While other people are seeing it pulling very deep targets, I have yet to pull anything any deeper than I have with the Nox 800, which I have pulled some very tiny silver coins, a foot deep with... and the stupid remote continues to fall off the shaft all the time.. and no larger coil for the Deus 2 yet. My Nox 800 with the 15" coil still can't be beat.
As far as depth I think you are right, I don’t see that it goes any deeper than the Nox 800, the difference seems to be it’s ability to find coins and targets in high trash areas and give signals on coins or targets that other machines can’t seem to see.. I use the DEUS 1 for playgrounds because it’s ability to find small gold.. but DEUS 2 for coins in old environments.
And just so everyone knows… I also have a Nox 800 sitting in my closet that I used for a while, but as I’m addicted to this stuff I got the DEUS II and after learning it I like it better…
Your assessment on the economics of a machine is right on par. That is how I feel about a machine that's easy on the body. It will allow you to hunt longer which, can lead to more finds. No doubt about it, D2 is awesome at the beach......I've been swinging the Equinox every since it came out & D2 quickly took it's place..It has an edge on depth capability, lightness and, construction. It's also less likely to leak and you ain't going to break the coil ears off either.....I'm glad I got it!
Yes totally agree, both Nox and D2 are great in the beach but prefer the XPD2 on the Beach, I’ve dug 2p Uk coin at was 20 inch down, yes I measured it with a tape measure, also tin cans 2ft plus down its screams on them, I also can pul out all the clad coins that other people leave in as there is a certain good tone with iron grunt mixed in that tells you it’s a coin and all you have to do is lift the coil so hear the difference, yes agree it’s an expensive machine but worth it for me, I don’t use full tones as not great with current update, hopefully XP will figure this out in future updates, As always, you have a calm way of explaining things that’s pleasant to listen to 🥳🥳🥳
@@Windsurfingaddict I appreciate the kind words! Yeah, I been at this game for over 28 years & happen to know a little about this hobby & metal detectors....As you can imagine, I've tried just about every brand over the years. Minelab machines seem to be the detector of choice for me ever since the Sovereign Gt came out... Followed by The Excalibur (my favorite), the SE & E-trac and Equinox..Those older machines caused tendonitis in my elbow and would lead to shorter hunts... Though the Nox did help make things better on that issue. However, the D2 elevated the game for me on all fronts.............I haven't given up on Minelab though!..I have a hunch they have something special coming out in near future. We'll see!
I might just be too old and fat but I don't find any attraction in digging deeper holes. I was writing that as you spoke about ergonomics for people with a heart condition, I just had a quadruple bypass while I'm waiting on back surgery. I should just look for the detector and gear for detecting along the beach, that would be easier for me and still get me out walking.
This machine will definitely make you work harder, if using the beach sensitive program.....Yes, you will be digging deeper than average targets with that program .......My advice if you were to use the Deus 2 at the beach would be to dial it back(sensitivity) so you don't get those super deep targets ......The Deus 2 has two other beach programs that can be used that won't go quite as deep as the beach sensitive program so, that's an option!.........For you Peter, the big advantage of the D2 is the weight of this machine. It's the lightest on the market as far as I know........Anyways, good luck out there!
Agree with what you said. I'd like to add that if you only have the 11 inch coil, you will struggle on pieces of land that is full of iron. You need the 9 inch, or even better, a (non-existent) smaller one. That would be another 400 Euro in my case. Won't to that, I still use my Rutus Alter with small concentric coil for those highly iron-contaminated locations. I do love my D2, love the ergonomics, love the audio and love to fiddle with the settings. What it needs is a small elliptical coil like the eliptical HF with the Deus1.
Not if I have to take a 2 semester course at the local junior college on how to use it and the study of dirt. Not necessarily plug and play but I want to go out there and have fun without being burned out
It's not really that hard to learn!.......Once you get familiarized with this machine, you'll gain confidence on how to operate it & it's programs.......However, there is simpler machines out there to use for sure.
The factory programs as is perform in the field. Take time to read the manual and do some test in a test garden or by placing some known objects. This will shorten the learning curve.
@@lbindert Ha.. I bought a Whites IDX in 1999. Its antique by todays standards I'm sure. When I see these new machines with all the Bells and Whistles i get gun shy I guess.
I have found that I am walking circles around my friend with a Minelab Nox 800 for coins in trashy areas around old houses or places where there might be a lot of iron, this isn’t just a one off, this is after hunting together for 6 months, I get more Wheats, Silver, and Clad than he does. Several times we have hunted around old houses and I end up with 4-5 wheat cents and him non or one.. this has happened several times, as we cross checked signals he gets them when shown but I can definitely say it’s a coin where his Minelab gives a mixed ‘all over the place’ type signal..
Merrill I love your honest opinion in this hobby.. You take the time and really break things down. Your Passion for the Hobby and Community is outstanding.. Send some energy into another Metal Detecting NYC Music video..
Loved this. Noticed quarters and dollar coins sound great and are 30 on the nox 800. Every machine is different. Thanks for all your work behind the scenes.
Merrill, you missed your calling, you could have been a comedian, lol. On the serious side, I really enjoy your videos. Hope to get your scoop before hitting the beach this fall/winter. Keep the videos coming.
Good honest review. I totally agree with you. Deus2 needs to work on some design features. Charging ports and so so on. Coming from the 800 I don’t feel like it’s much ahead of the nox. Super excited to see what minelab has in the works. Big plus like you said is ergonomics and it breaks down into a small package for travel. If it wasn’t for those two things I would have just stayed with my equinox 800.
Thanks for all your hard work and input to help me decide on which detector I would like to purchase in the near future. You have a new suscriber now!!
You did an awesome job with this video. I swing the 800 now for 3 years and wondered if i should spend 1600 on the on the DEUS , AT 75 YEARS OF AGE THIS LEARNING CURVE of this machine would be a challenge, my videos shows my lack of creative so again i say i am on the fence about this purchase, In my opinion this was one of your best videos, your friend White Water Jack from NJ
Merrill, like #145 sir. As usual, another great informative video sir, BUT, it took me FOREVER to learn my Nox 800, even after having a Minelab 705 for 2 years lol. I am NOT even going to try to learn this complicated baby. Plus, I'm not shelling out that $1600, lol. I bought a Nox 600 when the 800 was indefinitely in the shop and I have both now and love them, so, I am sure some folks will use this to help them decide on getting a Deus II, but I'm as happy as a clam in water with my 2 Noxes.!!! Take care buddy, hope we can catch up next time you're at your Florida place! Rob
They are. The Whites V3i which i still have is still untouchable. Truly works in 3 frequencies at same time. Nothing like it. Color screen. I have found silver dimes easily at 12 inches. Nickels too. The polar plot tells you if its a coin for sure. The BEST!
Great job Merrill!!! Thank you so much!!! I have the Nox 800 and was really interested in getting a D2 but the price is a little high for a detector that doesn't blow the 800 away. I go detecting with a guy that has the D2 and we compare signals and I have been able to pick up everything he has found. We both still get fooled with nails, but I think that is always gonna happen. Thanks again.
a si le d2 explose le nox 800 avec tout les possibilités du d2 le nox ne battra jamais le deus 2 le nox 800 et dépassé c’est fini pour lui même le deus 1 le bat haut la main 😄🤣😂
I heard of some equinox owners that bought the Deus 2 are selling the Deus and going back to the Nox. They are so close but the Nox just works like a clock which leads to more finds and a lot less quirky. Excited to see what Minelab brings out next. Competition makes everyone better! I also hope to see Garrett up their game.
Owner of two 800’s and have not picked them up since I bought my D2 in March..sold one of them and the other will sell as well. Always have a back up machine…so selling my second 800 will buy a second D2. Sorry but I never looked back at the Nox.
Great review Merril!! I’ve got a big bday coming up and was going to treat myself to a deus2 but honestly now going to wait for minelab’s response….the settings terrifying me…and I work in IT!!!!
Lol! No don't spend the money. Stick with what you got. I have used a lot of detectors whites, Minelab, Nakota, I use right now Nox 800 4 years and got a lot of gold. Point, you don't need that power you think, most gold ring 3-8 inches are very good conductors. I use sensitivity on the Nox 3 yes 3 and dig a lot of gold rings and I know my machine in the dirt. I use Excalibur for the water and love it. Oh, I don't dig coins in the dirt not looking for silver 8-19 dig dirt. I dig everything in the water. 30 rings total for July. 40 years of detecting~ Indiana
Thanks so much Merril for investing all this time to help us make a wise decision. I flooded 1 Nox but warranty replaced it. I’m usually under salt water and after seeing the coil charge connection is finicky, I’ll just keep saving my money. 1 charging port on Nox vs multiple on D2 + salt water+ humidity = 🤔 🤙🏽🤙🏽🙌🏼
Started out nugget hunting about 25years ago, got into coin hunting more in the last 5 years. The Nox 800 is a GREAT machine & i still have mine, as a backup. The Deus2 is hands down a superior machine aside the charging setup & headset, those suck! We hunt the trashy of trashy sites old mining camps, Railroad camps, ghost towns can-slaw & junk everywhere! We pulled 7 coins out of a 12'x50' site with two 800s. Same exact spot with the Deus2 a year later, easily pulled 6 more late 1800s to early 1900s coins. Thats proof enough for me!
very good video, thank you for this.. For me the Nr1 reason i would go for the XPD2 is ergonomics for sure, is that worth more, for me it does and for others maybe not, but i also love the pairing with the pinpointer, it just works well together (i used my deus 1 that way with the Mi6) sold my deus and waiting for a good sale with pinpointer together, they did that with the deus1 also, if it doesnt happen i will still go for the Deus2. Also the support from XP is amazing. One more thing, if you buy a high end detector and sell it 4-6 years later if you want to renew, you still get around 70% of your purchase price back.
Merrill I've been swinging the etrac since it was released. I've found thousands of coins, rings and jewellery and I do mean thousands. Would I have found more with a nox or deus, I doubt it. The etrac has been a silver magnet. Is it heavy, well for me no! I just don't see the value in updating however I have been asking about and anticipating the new minelab release and it may just cause me to buy a new machine depending on capability and cost, we'll see. Great vid as usual and good luck with the detecting. Subscriber in Australia 🇦🇺
Ok let's get something straight i loved the video! Awesome video now there's alot of detectoriest out there me included that love to detect, but alot of us detecting don't have the knowledge to properly set, tune, balance a top notch detector, like Equinox, Deus etc, most of us want start and go machine , i myself love my Excalibur 2, have found over 300 rings, about 200 gold rings, and yes have step up to a Equinox, hoping to find more, but like many detectoriest we don't have the expertise to program correctly , so to me and others like Mr Mel expertly explained 1,600.00 dollars doesn't sound like a gold ring to me! here's hoping Minelab can up grade a new detector that can truely up grade , but have the easiest way to turn on and go machanics, again Mel awesome video i give you a 10
nice video! i cant wait to see what minelab is coming up with next, i was seriously thinking of getting a deus 2 when im ready to upgrade to multi frequency, but after seeing this i think ill wait to see if they work out the kinks in the next year or two. and thats if minelab doesnt blow everyone out of the water with a new evolution of the equinox. this is a very exciting time to be a detectorist, i LOVE a hyper competitive market forcing companies to be innovative
I had a chance to compare the 800 to the Deus 2 on the beach last week. This is the first time I had the Deus out and have had the 800 out lots of times in parks and fields but only the beach one previous time. Initially the 800 killed it on the beach for me as my Etrac was too chattery and could not go under water. So last week I compared the 800 and Deus 2. I dug a ton of stuff good and bad with the Deus, way more than the 800. I went over the same area with both. I found finding the target before digging easier with the Deus than the 800. I also found myself fumbling more with the find out of the hole with the 800 note I do not use a pin pointer on the beach. This is probably just my poor experience. The Deus also hit quarters 12 plus inches down. I never hit anything that deep with the 800. I was also scared to take the 800 under water even though there is still warranty left. The Deus went under many times and I was confident it would be fine. The 800 swings firm with the detect-ed shaft. The Deus with a modified Simplex lower shaft felt firm but not as firm as the 800 with the full carbon shaft in the surf, note both detectors had a shaft change which does have additional costs making the 800 a cheaper solution. This beach test confirms to me the Deus is a keeper for me even at the cost. I got mine for 1300 since it was a new return. At a full 1599 I was hesitant. Yes it has some concerns, putting the coil wire on and wrapping it initially was a total pita. The lower shaft testing in a kiddie pool looked like a wet noodle. Mounting the wire to the pod was also a challenge until I got the wire twisted right to go under the clip. Taking the clip off and on could be an issue over time. I also did not like the rubber band which secures the clip to the coil. Pod mounting could also be better. I paid like 1600 for my Etrac and it needed absolutely no mods and has performed flawlessly. I hope that Minelab and XP step up the game yet keep costs down. Overall is it totally worth the cost, jury is still out as all I have is the beach comparison. If my curiosity had not gotten the better of me the 800 would still be my choice.
Great job Merrill, thanks for your time and hard work. Out of my price range ,but I'm really happy with my Quest Q30+ ,also does a great job in salt water .
@@MetalDetectingNYC Love the machine . My friend Kris "Addicted to Bleeps" did an extensive review on their range of machines . Mine is a mid range price , gold and beach modes included ,can dive until 5 metres deep .
Love your stuff Merrill keep it up 👍👍 Have both the 800 and ma deuce they’re both great I like fiddling around with detectors as you obviously do . I have and have had many .I’ll prob get the legend also but for someone watching their $$$ I think it’s hands down the legend comes in first , also for around what you pay for the deus2 you could have the 800 and the legend for backup! ……But if you hunt IN the water a lot the deuce might be your best option
A couple things in the Deus’s favor. Two controllers. If you forget, lose, or break one you can still hunt. Longer warranty that I still haven’t seen many people need. If your machine is having warranty work done then you can’t use it. Some people have had to send their nox in multiple times for repair. Not everyone is using a d2 and because of this you may find items the nox missed. It happens with all new machines. My nox was a great machine and still the one I recommend the most for newbies. I sold mine when the warranty was about to expire. As far as the nox replacement goes, you can be sure that it will be a lot closer in price to the d2. To my eyes the Nokta legend looks to be a more interesting machine than the nox.
@@johnsmalldridge6356 Its about XP reliability. We are generally not allowed to use the speaker on group digs or rallies here in the UK. On beaches we try not to annoy the public and to project a responsible image so no speaker there either. We are not allowed in parks generally although some authorities give permission. School fields are not normally allowed. Also if we ever use the speaker we soon get a crowd asking what we are doing which is distracting. Even with the headphones they still come and ask and we explain about the hobby. We have thousands of years of metal history in our soil.
All detectors find things others have missed. I have a toy detector which found coins all the other machines missed. That is why I have several detectors.
Merrill, The Deus 2 manual, page 37, says that when the coil is charging the light is “constant.” If it’s blinking, it is either not charging, or is finished charging. From 14:22-15:08 you twice state that the coil is fully charged when the light is solid. That is one reason your having trouble charging your coil. I find that I do need to prop the charging side of the coil up, off of the ground, to get proper contact, but yours seems to be having a lot more trouble. Have you checked the pins, on the underside of the charging clip? One may be bent or broken.
I have big forearms because I'm 6" 3 270 lbs) and I can't get my arm in the cuff on it unless I force it. Should be bigger. I don't have that problem with the nox 800.
Hi there dude, ime watching thru all your video's as i only discovered your channel a few weeks back, ive been detecting as a part time hobby 1 or 2 times a week for several years, i have a terible Seban xtreame detector that will detect a naile 3 foot under the ground but wont squeek over gold or silver nomatter how big a lump or how shallow itr is, i also have the xterra pro wich i really enjoyed, its a very simple to use beepstick that actually can find some pretty good stuff in the right places. Ime now considering the Manticore or Deus, i did not like the way the Manticore seemed to miss gold or that genric type build quality, but i have to say after liking most things ive seen about the Deus this faffy charger thing could be a deal brealker for me. I am a scientist (chemistry) & audio engineer, so i know what problem poor cable conections can create & it can turn a new device into a donkey overnight. I dont think that 1500 quid in the UK should be buyin g a wonky charge conectore & a weak looking noodle for a charging system. I was literally going to pull the trigger on one this evening untill i saw this.
Interesting, very interesting Mr. Merrill, but for right now I think I'll hang on tight to the idea of purchasing the NOX 600 or the NOX 800 Medal Detector. It's a gut feeling, it is always best to stick with your first decision, so I have heard. But! however, I will keep an open mind and keep a watchful eye on your programs for tips. Thanks Merrill, you've been great! catch you on the rebound, love the show! Signed, Greg the Egg.
The Legend is better than Equinox in my opinion. I have both. It could me my personal preference but I choose it. Deus 2 is overall better by ergonomic and target locking, and more software adjustments but is also more unstable and noisy. And more difficult to learn. But yes ergonomic is a key. More time, more terrain scanned.
Hey Merrill, I think you need to try your Legend again as the new updates have really changed it. It has added features like headphone and speaker just like Dues. Legend is knocking it out of the park and they are not done...
I’ve had my Deus II since April. Many of the features like beach and diving modes are great if you are into that. Being a woods and farm field Hunter I don’t think it’s worth the price. Also, if anyone has wanted to get smaller or larger size coil , good luck, because they are still not available. It seems they want you to buy another detector to get a different sized coil. I’ve gone back to my Deus 1 for now and will probably unload the Deus II.
Deus ll remote that takes time to understand if you don’t use it right or understand the unit you will loose out on really nice targets if you understand pc / laptop’s & willing to understand this french made computer you will benefit big time. It’s not a machine you grab & go. Thank You
btw Thank you for the review. I meant to say hi res. ID bounces on multi metalic objects. Generally it is accurate when the detector is properly adjusted and the object within range of the detection field. Maybe even in an air test but I wouldn't expect it. Just in case you don't understand the higher resolution machines will sound off even after an object that has been in the ground for years has been removed because they are whiffing the metallic oxides that have leached out. I'm certain you have experienced that with the Minelab detectors. The higher the resolution the greater response to those oxides. Can make it difficult in high trash to operate hi res.. That is another question. If hi res. is onboard how hi res. is it?
As far as your comments with the deus2 , I think the price tag is a little on the high-end when you consider many other experienced detectorist out there that can find targets just as good or as deep as the deus with a detector that doesn't break the bank,, Most people out there are not as fortunate as you are when it comes to the price of detectors and having the best there is,,,
I'm 71 years old, and I've only been metal detecting for about 10 months now, my introductory detector was the minelab Vanquish 540 which, in my opinion is an excellent introductory metal detector. 3 months ago I felt a need to upgrade to something a bit more sophisticated. It was a toss up between the Equinox 800 and the nokta legend. I saw too many postings from people who had issues with the Equinox 800 either getting flooded or having parts break. I went with the legend. I think it's a superb metal detector at a more than superb price tag! As far as my need for depth, I live here in South Florida, 99% of my detecting is done on the beach. And the targets I'm looking for on the beach are usually not deep, targets that are dropped by people within probably the past 72 hours, rarely more than five or six inches deep. The legend and the vanquish 540 do a great for me in that respect. I'm sure the Deus2 is a fantastic machine, but it has 90% more bells and whistles than I will ever need! I'm curious about the upcoming mine lab manticore, but I think I'm going to wait and see whether that company puts any effort into avoiding the breakage and flooding issues that plague the equinox series. Thank you Merrill for a very comprehensive video . 👍
Hey Merrill... What a great video! I've been like saving my pennies to get the Deus2.. but in the back of my mind I love my minelab.... So about 2 months ago I sunk one of my 800s will be number four and of course it's under warranty so it's cool and they gave me a new control box. But I called minelaab and wrote them a letter... I was told how much I loved my machines but it's so unfortunate that I'm afraid to take it in the water because it's going to drowned..... And that's what gives the disadvantage to water hunting which I❤️of.. course Beach hunting is important too so I was inquiring to them you know what are they going to do next? And they couldn't elaborate but they said they definitely have something in the works and I was straight out with him I said well you got some heavy competition and they said that what they have in the works they're very excited about so as you said it could be the equinox 2? Anyway I'm going to save my money for that and I'm in hopes that this will be the ultimate waterproof machine and I'm sure that they're looking hard at the Deus to be able to minimum exceed with her new detector... Fingers crossed man 🤞 I'm always happy to say that the equinox has brought me much Taco Bell Joy recently 😆😂😆...🏴☠️
@@MetalDetectingNYC that’s ok, it’s your opinion. You’ve got experience and have done a much better evaluation than most people. I learned a lot about D2 here I did not know. Thanks 👍
To most too alot of detectorist the T2 is probably ones best choice. Its fast it can go deep its,,its really splitting hairs with the deus a d others in most scenarios imo. Any multi is so terrible in EMI that most run in in single frequency anyway, around 14 khz, and t2 is 13khz with good tones also. Tit for tat is where we are still at it seems for the most part. It's not like there are not videos out there where the t2 hit targets the nox and deus failed at, and vice versa. Coil options are more important to me than a 2 thousand dollar machine that pretty much performs the same. Jmo
Conductivity means the electrical resistance of the target - how easily electricity flows across it. If the smaller target has purer silver, the conductivity will be higher than the large target that might have copper, zinc or other impurities in it that lowers the conductivity. Size should not have anything to do with the conductivity. A tiny silver dime will have a higher reading than a huge copper half penny because the silver conducts more than the copper. The government probably cheated on that larger silver coin by allowing some impurities along with the pure silver - .980 percent pure versus .995 or some such, and the XP detected that.
Good inference but it is definitely not that. In the comments of that video several others tried to repeat the test with the same results. Deus 2 target ID is sketchy.
Thank you for the Vid:-), in the moment the D2 isn't worth the 1600 Euro why? Because there are many bugs in it like the silencer on2 that doesn't work properly, a grabsound on iron, iron ID all over the place from low to high, fulltones don't work as it should, so no the D2 isn't worth the money right now, perhaps an update could help if not keep you're D1!!
XP Deus II in sensitive FT punched through fill and based on tone only found deep WW2 soldier art, 1600 smickshteen hundred. If it pays for itself, and it has.
@@MetalDetectingNYC I did enjoy this. I have to remind myself to be thankful for your contribution to my evolution as a detectorist. The earth sciences concepts you introduce are very important to getting in the zone. I actually did justify the Deus brand for the ergonomics, though i do feel like a bit of a tester with the D2. I think i got a hot one.
Just a thought on the 2 silver dollar target IDs. The Morgan is 90% silver and 10% copper, the Liberty is 99.9% silver. Could the Deus be reacting to the copper in the Morgan and lowering the ID? I'm A Nox guy, but I'd be interested in what the Deus would ID the Liberty with a copper penny laying on top of it.
Thanks again Merrill for your information and independence!! I will stick with my Nox for now and impatiently wait for the new Nox to be released. My wife chooses her Legend over the Nox And she's killing it! What a value there!! I really respect your knowledge and opinions.
I have to disagree with your ergonomics evaluation. Even though deus and D2 are lighter the 11" coil which has the battery in it is nose heavy. I don't like swinging it. 9" coil is lovely though!
Hi Merrill. I tried to ask minelab reps again about new detector plan for the end of the year. Again they played dumb as they are protecting sales of the nox until the new one is released.
True high resolution all metal mode? I mean to ask if it will ID a target by conductivity of a metalic object by its conductive content regardless of size? For example GTI 2500 or DFX or v3i concentrics? The thinking is to use the high resolution to get the pure gold vdi from the higher grades of jewelry as a time saver. I know the defect is the vdi flips around in high res. but it beats digging foil and aluminum scrap all day. DD vs. concentric w/hi res.? Is there a concentric for the detector?
Just detected a bit of my iron and foil contaminated garden not detected before. Deus 1 first. Only foil. Equinox, lovely victorian lead horse, door knob, pen nib, old penny, brass nut. The Nox really picks the artefacts out. I am not so sure the D2 would fare as well. D1 small elliptical coil Nox small elliptical coil. The D2 does not even have a small elliptical.
Coil charger doesn't work properly if sat on a flat, hard surface. It will disconnect itself over time. Build quality is horrible for the price. I've broken the mount for the rc unit from general use as have other people. Parts are very scarce in Australia. Still no coils available. Even finding a replacement FC mount was a mission. Charger is a pain too. The stock cable falls out of the headphone port as its just a cheap connector and doesnt fit properly. It outperforms the Nox in some situations but is it worth it? No. not for more than double the price. Had my Nox for 3 years and had no issues. Had this for 6 months and its had way more problems and zero support. Emailed our supplier and XP directly and no information on support questions. XP never even bothered to reply. I would recommend waiting for the next Minelab release and give this one a miss.
My humble opinion and a burning query: I get it that the machines that you like are the ones that you are swinging the most BUT for the rest of us poor folks NOT buying a soon to be “older model” NOX or an overpriced long learning curve (not to mention the poop charging arrangements) Deus 2 pretty much leaves us with your currently number one rated Legend to purchase, which I have and really like. (please pardon the run on sentence). I bought it heavily based on your evaluation and head to head comparison of the machine to the NOX 800. Now for the burning query part: Why for, how come you not swinging (seldom) your number one rated detector The Legend so us new fellows can learn the machine more better from an experienced detectorist ( that would be you). Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration Your Fanboy Brad PS TRASH PANDAS RULE!!!!
Hey Bradley! I sent it to Florida as a perk for people who rent my Airbnb. I will repurchase it ASAP. I think very highly of it still. You will see me use it soon.
@@MetalDetectingNYC That would be great Merrill, really look forward to it!! I did see your rental and the Florida plans for the Legend. The pool at your Airbnb looks super, especially with the brutal heat all over the country. Thanks Brad
Thank you google translationThank you great report... I had the nox superb machine its defect too fragile. The Deus 2 really robust it is necessary to take the time of the tamed and guarantee 5 years it gives to think.
So I've had the Deus 1 since 2010 one coil available nine inch controller sw4 headphones same shaft version 3.2!!! From then on and through all the upgrades introduction and elleven coils which include two Hf ,,three original LF three legacy three X35 and two HF plus the M-16 and of course SW5 headphones😊 Xp Milked the Deus 1 And why not it was the best out there for many reasons other manufacturers could only play catch up. With the pre set programs and many variouse settings it is a very comprehensive single switchable frequency machine which has even now a fantastic owner based following especially in the UK and other European countries where detecting is legal. There has been a tremendous amount information shared settings video clips many from XP s official source so now twelve years of my ownership of the Deus1 a constant has appeared this has come from thousands of users and that is the so called hot program it's the most widely used setting within Deus 1 users fraternity this is consensus of opinions from the many thousands of users they can't all be wrong. I've put the Hot program in mono section of the Deus 2 and will now wait to see what will turn out to be the most used setting by consensus may take a while ...

Cannot wait to see what minelab are bringing to the table .
Own a 800 with multiple coils and an Excalibur and have hunted since the late 1960’s and hunted with many different brands of detectors. Minelab multi frequency detectors were a game changer and I water hunted with Excalibur Sword for almost 20 years. Paid for itself many many times over. Just bought an Excalibur 2
Resently and love the simplicity of its operation. I now own a deus 2 and almost entirely spend all my hunting
In the water or wet sand. Yes there is a learning curve and charging the unit requires some attention but the weight factor and possibilities in the settings seem worth the trouble. Yes it cost more than some detectors but in reality you get two detectors. I’ve moved the master from the wireless head phones to separate shaft
And using wired ear pod headphones and running an antenna lead from the coil and locate the other end next to the master you now have a unit that is great for dry hunting and can wade in water up to the master
Unit if I want to.
Best to just plug the Nox headphones into the machine using the old school Aux cable- the sounds are much clearer and theres is less lag
The nox is twice as good as the deus
As far as depth I think you are right, I don’t see that it goes any deeper than the Nox 800, the difference seems to be it’s ability to find coins and targets in high trash areas and give signals on coins or targets that other machines can’t seem to see.. I use the DEUS 1 for playgrounds because it’s ability to find small gold.. but DEUS 2 for coins in old environments.
And just so everyone knows… I also have a Nox 800 sitting in my closet that I used for a while, but as I’m addicted to this stuff I got the DEUS II and after learning it I like it better…
I have compared these machines against each other at real club digs and the Nox is still the best.
We'll see!
I'm very happy with my decision to go with the nokta makro legend. It's a beast of a detector. Lightweight but built like a tank. Thanks.
It is an incredible detector!
I don't want to mess with any of that.I'm sticking to my usual. 👍Great review!!
Not if I have to take a 2 semester course at the local junior college on how to use it and the study of dirt. Not necessarily plug and play but I want to go out there and have fun without being burned out
AGREED!
@@GreatLakes_MetalDetecting I'll just stick with my Garrett Ace 400

Ha.. I bought a Whites IDX in 1999.
Its antique by todays standards I'm sure. When I see these new machines with all the Bells and Whistles i get gun shy I guess.
Very helpful and well presented. Thanks for all your good work and sharing your wonderful videos
Are there any reviews coming on the legend with the newest updates always enjoy your videos
Thank you for your Honest opinion. It is a great judge of character!
Loved this. Noticed quarters and dollar coins sound great and are 30 on the nox 800. Every machine is different. Thanks for all your work behind the scenes.
Thanks Merrill, great job👋👍
Thanks, watched it a few times. Just ordered one. Now to learn lol
It’s worth it !
Merrill, you missed your calling, you could have been a comedian, lol. On the serious side, I really enjoy your videos. Hope to get your scoop before hitting the beach this fall/winter. Keep the videos coming.
Thank you so much Jerry!
Fantastic breakdown and reasoning! Thank You!
Thank you!!!
Merrill, thank you for all the time you put into this video.
great video! being thorough has it's advantages.
I truly appreciate it Jack!
Once again, great video Merrill.
Great Video and awesome information. Thank-you very much.
Garrett is Dead ...they have nothing ..that new machine they have is Pi machine.
Lol. WRONG!!
@@roadrunner9760 Right Brah
try d2 vs nox in the beach and that Double depth is worth it
Owner of two 800’s and have not picked them up since I bought my D2 in March..sold one of them and the other will sell as well.
Really nice review, Merrill.
Also Xp will be coming out with a 12x13 coil for the D2....
Wow!!!
very good video, thank you for this..
Awesome video now there's alot of detectoriest out there me included that love to detect, but alot of us detecting don't have the knowledge to properly set, tune, balance a top notch detector, like Equinox, Deus etc, most of us want start and go machine , i myself love my Excalibur 2, have found over 300 rings, about 200 gold rings, and yes have step up to a Equinox, hoping to find more, but like many detectoriest we don't have the expertise to program correctly , so to me and others like Mr Mel expertly explained 1,600.00 dollars doesn't sound like a gold ring to me! here's hoping Minelab can up grade a new detector that can truely up grade , but have the easiest way to turn on and go machanics, again Mel awesome video i give you a 10
Awesome video man!
nice video! i cant wait to see what minelab is coming up with next, i was seriously thinking of getting a deus 2 when im ready to upgrade to multi frequency, but after seeing this i think ill wait to see if they work out the kinks in the next year or two. and thats if minelab doesnt blow everyone out of the water with a new evolution of the equinox. this is a very exciting time to be a detectorist, i LOVE a hyper competitive market forcing companies to be innovative
I keep hearing about the Quest! Might have to invest
Had to use the warranty on the D1 headphones that went kaput.
@@oldplucker1 thought this was about the d2. Weren’t you still able to hunt using the speaker on the d1?
@@johnsmalldridge6356 Its about XP reliability. We are generally not allowed to use the speaker on group digs or rallies here in the UK. On beaches we try not to annoy the public and to project a responsible image so no speaker there either. We are not allowed in parks generally although some authorities give permission. School fields are not normally allowed.
Also if we ever use the speaker we soon get a crowd asking what we are doing which is distracting.
Even with the headphones they still come and ask
and we explain about the hobby.
Have you tried the new updated for the legend? Would love to see a video on that.
I just got a Deus 2, it seems a nice companion to my CTX3030. Since the thing finds money, I do not see how price has much to do with it.
After putting on carbon fiber shaft my equinox is lighter and still less expensive than the Deus II - I am happy with my choice.
Thank You
how do you know minelab will come out with a new detector around december? very interesting would like to know the source excellent video!
btw Thank you for the review. I meant to say hi res. ID bounces on multi metalic objects.
Generally it is accurate when the detector is properly adjusted and the object within range of the detection field. Maybe even in an air test but I wouldn't expect it. Just in case you don't understand the higher resolution machines will
sound off even after
an object that has been in the ground for years has been removed because they are whiffing the
metallic oxides that have leached out. I'm
certain you have experienced that with
the Minelab detectors. The higher the resolution the greater response to those oxides. Can make it difficult in high trash to operate hi res.. That is another question. If hi res. is onboard how hi res. is it?
Nice video
Thanks buddy for your help
They are going to send me a new Deus 2 new remote 👌🏻
As far as your comments with the deus2 , I think the price tag is a little on the high-end when you consider many other experienced detectorist out there that can find targets just as good or as deep as the deus with a detector that doesn't break the bank,, Most people out there are not as fortunate as you are when it comes to the price of detectors and having the best there is,,,
I’m fortunate and thankful because people watch the channel. I try to reinvest as much as I could and report back.
I think I will stay with my Impact & Orx
That is very logical. It’s honestly a small improvement with the Deus 2.
Have you tried the Deus 2 WS6 Puck.
What’s the answer to the question posed in title of the video?
I would say yes but I’m biased.
Hope if minelab makes a new detector
IT'S WATER PROOF PAST 10 FT AND HAS A VIBRATION IN THE HANDLE A STRONG VIBRATIONAND MORE.
In the two coin test, was the silver content higher in the smaller coin? Please check and update us, that may be why the dues dues read that way.
Yes
My wife chooses her Legend over the Nox
And she's killing it!
I mean to ask if it will ID a target by conductivity of a metalic object by its conductive content
regardless of size?
For example GTI 2500 or DFX or v3i concentrics? The thinking is to use the high resolution to get
the pure gold vdi from the higher grades of jewelry as a time saver. I know the defect is the vdi flips around in high res. but it beats digging foil and aluminum scrap all day. DD vs. concentric w/hi res.?
Is there a concentric
for the detector?
Just detected a bit of my iron and foil contaminated garden not detected before.
Deus 1 first. Only foil.
Equinox, lovely victorian lead horse, door knob, pen nib, old penny, brass nut. The Nox really picks the artefacts out. I am not so sure the D2 would fare as well.
D1 small elliptical coil
Nox small elliptical coil.
The D2 does not even have a small elliptical.
Deus is low key the king metal detecting24 is a legend mero I needs a channel 😂😉😎
There are the WS6 Headphones and the Deus 2 Puck metal detector
My humble opinion and a burning query:
I get it that the machines that you like are the ones that you are swinging the most BUT for the rest of us poor folks NOT buying a soon to be “older model” NOX or an overpriced long learning curve (not to mention the poop charging arrangements) Deus 2 pretty much leaves us with your currently number one rated Legend to purchase, which I have and really like. (please pardon the run on sentence). I bought it heavily based on your evaluation and head to head comparison of the machine to the NOX 800.
Now for the burning query part:
Why for, how come you not swinging (seldom) your number one rated detector The Legend so us new fellows can learn the machine more better from an experienced detectorist ( that would be you).
Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration
Your Fanboy
Brad
PS TRASH PANDAS RULE!!!!
Thanks
Brad
welp.. i guess ill wait till next year and see what hapen
Merrill 👌👍🏼 Deus 2 in Australia $2500 🙄
Are you even allowed out of your home to use it?
U should be sponsored by one of 2 Co. Minelab or deus. Take your pic Merrill?
Thank you google translationThank you great report... I had the nox superb machine its defect too fragile. The Deus 2 really robust it is necessary to take the time of the tamed and guarantee 5 years it gives to think.
Seen enough of this one.
Bravo frere
19 metal detectors?! 😱
So I've had the Deus 1 since 2010 one coil available nine inch controller sw4 headphones same shaft version 3.2!!!
From then on and through all the upgrades introduction and elleven coils which include two Hf ,,three original LF three legacy three X35 and two HF plus the M-16 and of course SW5 headphones😊 Xp Milked the Deus 1
And why not it was the best out there for many reasons other manufacturers could only play catch up.
With the pre set programs and many variouse settings it is a very comprehensive single switchable frequency machine which has even now
a fantastic owner based following especially in the UK and other European countries where detecting is legal.
There has been a tremendous amount information shared settings video clips many from XP s official source
so now twelve years of my ownership of the Deus1 a constant has appeared this has come from thousands of users and that is the so called hot program it's the most widely used setting within Deus 1 users fraternity this is consensus of opinions from the many thousands of users they can't all be wrong.
I've put the Hot program in mono section of the Deus 2 and will now wait to see what will turn out to be the most used setting by consensus may take a while ...
Get the detecting doodads charger for the coil.... problem solved.
Hunt with the 1600.00 machine and everytime you hit a target call your buddys over with their 600.00 and 800.00 machine and see if they hit the target at the end of the day you will see how much money you wasted ,you can not find it until you put the coil over it some people have to have the most expensive A Deus2 or a 10 bedroom house instead of a 3 bedroom that is just human nature KEEP ON DIGGIN!
Sounds like alot of bad Deus before you get to learn it. That coil is a real bottlecap.
Question is will minelab give you a 5 year warranty on the next generation detector?
