You didn’t mention gofaster stickers. They add 1-3hp per sticker. Multiply that by 1.3 if you have an aftermarket spoiler. The stickers are not to be confused with stickfamily stickers which detract horsepower and wetness initiation.

Your #1 tip is absolutely #1. Most people have no clue about high performance driving. And you know what? I'm one of them! And honest enough to admit it.
IMO you need to go Maintenance. Driver skill and confidence. Tyres. Light weight forged wheels. Brakes - good quality pads, slotted rotors and fluid. Suspension - coilovers if you can afford it or at least springs and shocks, and don't forget anti roll bars and bushes. Then you can look to power mods last, you want to be able to handle the car before you open the engine up to unleash some fury.
@Ratchet and Wrenches, I really gotta say great job on these vids. First watched your 5 mods for power as a quick reminder on camshafts and really took to your method of instruction. Loved how you laid it all out I knew I had to see more of your vids even if I had already done the upgrades you talk about. Super informative and done correctly. Thanks man.
Just thought about this. Is this why all my BMW have the battery in the back of the car as well as some of the electronics? I thought it was just a BMW quirk, but now that you said it, it would explain how the car has like a 50/50 distribution.
you're wrong in my opinion about the sway bar.... it pushes down on the control arm keeping it from rising too high with the help of the resistance from being connected to the other side
There is a complicated misunderstanding about stiffer springs increasing traction. This is only true if your camber is inadequate to keep the tire tread flat to the road surface in the middle of a corner. Ignore the camber issue for a moment. A stiffer spring will load and unload more as the tire follows the varying road surface. This will reduce traction. Ideally, you want the softest wheel rates for the entire car in the proper ratios. Yes, this was verified at the track countless times. Where's the limit? You do not want the suspension or car to bottom out. Body roll should not be your highest priority. Wider and sticker tires, optimum camber and camber curves, lower weight, lower center of gravity, wider track width, softer springs, proper roll couple percentage relative to your rear weight percentage, proper cross weight percentage for the track you are running on, higher left or right weight percentage depending on the track's left turn and right turn ratios, proper brake balance, low unsprung weight, and the list goes on and on. None of these things works in isolation. It all must be designed to work together to optimise the handling and maximum traction. I have done suspension and handling work for many years and wrote the first suspension and handling software program back in 1984. Many track records and wins including NASCAR and West Coast Tour. Just letting doubters know this isn't coming from a weekend warrior or keyboard jockey.
This is awesome man I wish I could see u in ur full natural mechanic form like more live than rehearsed type video How about u buy a old middle aged car and figure out what's wrong with it than improve it and then do whatever u want with it
Lots of good info here. I have to add that all these mods should be done with high quality parts and they all require careful fitting and adjustment. The best point was the one about the driver. For example it is very rare to find a Vtech owner who can actually drive the car without falling off cam. For me I do not mod my cars because I do not want to pay the extra insurance.
Andrew Thompson I was for a long time. You have the option to pay extra for valuable parts, but you don't have to. They'll pay like it's stock otherwise. It doesn't cost much if you did want to but they only cover it at 50 percent value. Original parts are usually more valuable. Come see my efforts with a recent $42 mod. :)
I’ve used em in mk1 vws for years. Avoid the poly rear mount and use a heavy duty (Motorsport)rubber one and there’s not much extra vibration. I’ve filled the drivers side mount with a sand epoxy mix , poly front and heavy duty rubber for the passengers side. It was a lot of trial and error so you gotta try what works for a balance of vibration and mount stiffness.
As always, a great video! So a suggestion (if you haven't talked about this already), in your words describing how modern pressurized coolant systems work vs. the older 'overflow' type.
My top 7 mods I do to all my cars: 1. Welded Differential (1 tyre fire is for losers) 2. Home made seat belt lock (fits any vehicle I'm about to drive) 3. Bucket seat, deep ones, with knee support, quick release steering wheel 4. Solid bushing, monoball bearings, solid transmission/engine mounts 5. Dual welded anti roll bars (rear obviously) 6. Plastic acrylic windows (hardware store availability, no scratch, no yellow) 7. Hydraulic handbrake Bonus: Weight strip! replace OEM parts with universal stuff for quick fix, delete abs pumps, sensors, heaters, air cons, Vanos delete plates, anything to simplify and never worry again. Keep engines standard, just replace them with bigger stock ones when funds allow.
When considering a short shifter, you definitely wanna look into short THROW shifters. You wanna reduce the throw. Sometimes when you get a cheap short shifter, you actually increase the effort required to shift, which is no bueno. Regarding motor (& tranny) mounts, you can look into diy mount filling. For example, 3M Windo Weld is a urethane that my local Vatozone has recently begun to carry in stock and works wonders in filling in oem mounts. Definitely less expensive than aftermarket poly mounts and not so extra stiff. You decide how strong you want the vibrations to be.

I would like to know how a DCT transmission works at a stop. With no clutch or torque converter? Something has to be disengaged at a stop. I have not been able to find a answer for this.
You mentioned coilovers and swaybars to reduce body roll and that would make you faster. But thats not really the case. There is a lot more to suspension dynamics than what you mention and keeping "traction" on the inside wheel isn't really what you are doing. The inside wheel really isn't doing much in either case and by allowing more weight transfer to the outside it provides more traction. You've heard that softer springs equal more grip right? A big part of the problem is maintaining alignment, too much roll can change the alignment to the point that it has a negative effect. Also a car without a limited slip differential would need to keep more weight on the inside as well otherwise obviously it will send power to the inside wheel which will do nothing. The stiffer springs and bars do help to an extent but the purpose is not because they reduce roll. Better control of weight transfer and better control of alignment would be a better overly simplistic explanation.
Biggest coilover tip is check if your control arms are adjustable, if not, you can never get a proper alignment and you need adjustable ones. I had koni yellows on a integra gsr, but never put adjustable front control arms and the other thing thats brass from the factory(cant remember off top of my head) but yeah had really bad wear
Hi I just subscribed to your channel after watching a couple of your excellent videos. Painting with rattle cans. I just attempted to repair my car I did basecoat and clearcoat. I am sanding down with 1500 grit and I realize there’s an area in the clearcoat that is thinner than the rest if I continue sending I will hit the basecoat. Is it possible to re-scuff the entire panel of clearcoat and then add another coat or two of clear coat over the top? Any advice you have would be much appreciated! Thank you!!
I mean, coilovers, waste of money unless you're going to be tracking your car and you know how to dial it. Otherwise, I think me and most technicians and mechanics believe it's best to get struts and springs. Cheaper and independently sold for each corner of the car.
Hi, like your videos, pretty informative. While a lot of mod videos focus on speed and performance, I would actually like to learn about mods that increase comfort (even if some performance has to be sacrificed, or maybe comfort enhancements can be balanced out by performance ones). I have a base 2017 VW GTI, and while it's a pretty great all-around car for my needs, it's not the most comfortable ride out of the gate. I'd like to try and improve that. What are your thoughts?
The input shafts are designed for the engine and transmission flex in your vehicle. Solid motor mounts can actually add stress on those input shafts as well as your bearings. Solid motor mounts should not be done without first consulting a professional for your vehicle. If you have an automatic, don't even bother asking and just don't do it.
This is an unrelated question. Pep Boys mechanic and service manager told me that the small misfires my car is having (1) on one cylinder and (3) on another at idle ( are normal) and all cars misfire. I’d like to know if this is true especially since they were the ones who changed my spark plugs. Any advice is much appreciated.
Surprised you didn’t talk about brakes and how they along with tires, win races. Need to be able to put the power to the ground but also good brakes equal late braking into turns and result in sling shoting out for better times or pull you ahead in the canyons.

The stiffer springs and bars do help to an extent but the purpose is not because they reduce roll. Better control of weight transfer and better control of alignment would be a better overly simplistic explanation.
Awesome video man, very informative!
You also need a low resistance muffler bearing!
Thanks! Finally figured out what was wrong with my truck after 20 years because of you! .... Loose Nut :D
I'm definitely not one of those people in your agreement group of techs on that statement
Brakes tyres and suspension air intake fuel mix exhaust and drive well not like a living dead . Agreed people
I have watched a few of your videos and appreciate your advice.
You really have to be careful of that guy driving behind that guy in front of you.
Very Nice Basics . THANKS . . . .
Do you have a bolt on vid?
awesome video! very insightful
Any advice is much appreciated.
how to choose the right Paddle Tires for a Dand Drag Truck?
Anything on thee 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue? Pros and cons?
Surprised you didn’t talk about brakes and how they along with tires, win races. Need to be able to put the power to the ground but also good brakes equal late braking into turns and result in sling shoting out for better times or pull you ahead in the canyons.
