That seems like a theme. His re-covers lean heavier into your stereotypical metal. At least in my experience.
Johnathan sounds more and more of the true disney villain. His voice became more theatrical and edgy, like his growls became more menacing which gives it a nice touch.
I'm not sure Ariel would have dared to sign the scroll in this version... 😳

Agreed, this version takes away the trickster, kind-of-funny-in-an-evil-way side of Ursula and just makes her scary. His voice is insanely good though!

I love that your delivery gets slightly more unhinged as the song goes on, like youre getting more frustrated and desperate. That low note before the second verse was impressive as well. Excellent work overall, as always!

I went back and listened to the older version because of this comment, and you're so right! Both are very good performances, but you can definitely hear a marked difference between the two versions. I can hear how much work he's put into perfecting his instrument!

To me, this sounds like a cross between a villain who’s not only been pushed to the brink by society but also accepted that’s how he’s viewed and a villain who genuinely believes what he’s doing is right.
Holy hell. The theatrical singing along with the little bits of voice acting make this a memorable, and epic experience. It's how I'd imagine Nightmare Before Christmas to be if KoRn was involved in the song writing process.

I love how much he clearly enjoys playing villains, just the sheer passion and joy he gets from being completely unhinged is marvelous.
The old version was like a refined dark gentleman coaxing you to sign away your soul, this is more like an unhinged demon scaring you into signing on the dotted line.... Fucking love it.
I love how this is 2016 version on demonic crack. You took the "shady deal with even shadier business man" and turned it into "very shady deal with a very shady demon that WILL take your soul". I fux with it! great cover man

Yeah, Jon just maxed out the craziness knob and added another one just to max it out too. And his vocals, HOLY SHIT his vocals. He can use his growls way better than before. The false fold subharmonic right before the second verse is earth shaking. The production here makes it even crazier. Also, how is no one talking about Jon's voice acting? Whenever he shouts in this cover it sounds real, the "SPELLS URSULA, PLEASE!!!" sounds like he's actually in pain and desperation saying that. I wish more people were saying this.
Jon, just know that you're a massive inspiration for me, a 15 year old interested in making music. And seeing your growth in this period of time makes me want to keep going despite all obstacles. Thank you.

I enjoy the more frenzied version but your first version you released a long time ago I enjoy more. Both are great, but your first version is the best.
I need to listen to it on a better sound system, but the instrumentation sounds a lot messier here. I struggle to hear the original song buried under what are to me very busy guitars and drums.
So far these re-covers, including be prepared, have been like the Disney live action remakes to me - you got it the first time, no real reason to come back again.
The maniacal laugh at 00:23 sounds completely mad, I love it.
Your vocal technique is onsane and the range of your interpretation is very varied. This skill is insane. What is enjoyable in those disney songs is how far you push your skills. Truly impressive !

If Disney doesn't hire you to do your own piece/role for a new animated movie then they're seriously messing up. I feel like you could be an amazing villain character with how you portray your adaptation of them, its extremely emotional and pulls you in in a way that not everyone can do but you pull it off flawlessly!
The dexterity in the voice range between the bass and tenor and the metal voice is fantastic! Loving the Disney Metal, man!

Leave it to fucking disney to change the character so drastically like that after 34 years. :/ I just needed to rant, don't mind me.

I love the vocals that almost mirror your Hellfire cover! The deep growling lows, into the softer highs. It makes the song so dynamic, and adds a huge amount of character that really follows Ursla. And gives this song more of a dive (funny joke lol) into insanity right in that very moment. Its a different twist compared to the softer, and more "charming" versions of the song. Amazing cover!
Speaking of Hellfire, I would really like a recover of that song. Your cover is one of my favorites of all time it is still amazing 6 years later, and I can only imagine how much crazier and impressive a cover would be with present you!

The funny thing is that I imagine the original Ursula's face and this voice.... And I'm like: "Why does it fit?"
This has always been one of Disney's best villain songs (which are often the best song from the movie), and this is an incredible cover! This evokes a much more terrifying Ursula than the original, and I'm loving it...though I do have to disagree with some of the other commenters, Ariel would still be naive and foolish enough to sign.

In his first version, Jonathan sounded like an evil being carefully planning the fall of the siren kingdom, now he's just fully demonic and derranged and fits perfectly, his Disney villains are really on a league on their own
