Jazz is alive thanks to him
I'm 17 playing this standard in my recital bcuz of him ❤️
This is what makes UA-cam so cool. I’m sure I never would heard of this gentleman, what a talent! Brilliant playing from everyone 🥳
Yes it is a great format BUT......It would be cooler if they quit censoring everything vital to us ...Michel Petruccianni in my books is one of the best players ever great band too, of course
Absolutely! I’ve found countless artists who I never would have heard of had it not been for UA-cam!
@@pappawheely LOL said casually with Anthony Jackson in the background...... Oh aye but the band weren't bad either :|
But remember, is not only "talent" everyone can do it by studying and practicing. 🦖👆🏽🍷
@@moralescruzcarlos2225 ......... Well duh. Thats what a talent is.......
What a pianist he was. At 3:08 , he hammers that single key in I think 16th notes like a mad man for 32 BARS ! , right on the tempo and with a perfect quick transition.
Surrounded by excellent musicians.
HIs brain was like: Oh look this key!! That sounds good i will play it 2 minutes and fast :D
He swallowed a metronome when he was a kid.
Yes but by 4:00 it's time to whap him upside the head! :)
0:30 keeping the lick/riff on his left hand is honestly way more difficult (than hitting the same note with two hands)
Everything with such soul, no doubt!
Thank you UA-cam - I would be lost if I didn't have you ... I'm 89 years old and would be lost if this was no longer available for me - Michel Petrucciani, genius, died much too young but achieved so much in his short life...
happy to make you happy !
Petrucciani grande maestro . Tutto il gruppo numero uno 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Everyone talking about Petrucciani, and i mean it's right he was truly a beast on the piano, but Steve Gadd absolutely slayed on the drums.
7:12 Petrucciani has his Steinway closed and, with a little smile on his lips, enjoys Steve Gadds "absolutely slaying on the drums". Kind of says it all, right? 👍😂
1998: Wooooaaaaawwww!! 2019: Wooooaaaaawwww!! 2219: Wooooaaaaawwww!!
The percussive touch of Petrucciani, his incredible rhythmic precision ... Many metronomes have resigned! 😆Always amazing 20 years later ...
Many metronomes have resigned.
Ha ha ha. Loved that piece,
c'est clair !
Comme de l'eau-de-vie ?
Saw Petrucciani at Jazz Alley in Seattle in late 1988 - 89. A big guy carries him to the stage and sets him down at piano and oh yeah!!
@@DuffyNightingale You read my mind, man. I saw him at Getxo around the same time as you, and this detail you mention about his PA carrying him to and from the stage made a great and positive impression on me, along with the music of course. Thank you for sharing.
Memorable out of orbit interpretation. Unforgettable
🤩👍
Magia magia pura, ti porterò sempre nel mio cuore, grazie piccolo uomo immenso, esempio di volontà infinita.
Every time I watch Michel Petrucciani play .. it blows my mind.
Michel Petruciani is one of my favorite piano players because of his style. Obviously he has chops, but at times he plays so simple and beautifully rhythmic and melodic. He also really keys in with the drummer and bassist. You could compare him with Chick Corea and Michel Camilo, who both also do the same things in their own ways, yet he has his unique style. Everything recorded by the trio with Gadd and Jackson is the best!
This video makes me even more crazy about music! Superb!!!
This is the most Jazzed-up ‘jazziest’ jazzy jazz ever... fantastic! ...or should I say JAZZtastic!!!
Genius. A life too short . Miss him
Michel founded a great sound with this trio. A new sound, extremly modern and fresh. So badly, he passed away.
Petrucciani is a genius and his piano is like an extention of his body
was
Superbe Petrucciani 👍👍👍👍
Je ne m’en lasse jamais !
Merci Michel !❤️
My love and praise to the immortal Petruchhiani
I'm glad UA-cam put this genius on my recommended videos wowww
PURE genius! This video NEVER grows old!
What an exciting piece of music. Nothing else like it!
The ending... what a beautiful and optimistic play. Arigatou, Mr Michel Petrucciani.
I am not a pianist but Michael's playstyle is very appealing. It is touching. I really connect with his style
My wire and I had the honour to witness this genius on two occasions in copenhagen in the late 1990'ties. For that I am eternal greatful.
Surely you were going for 9ties or 199ties?
But most just say 1990s lol 😆
Man, Michael just does it all here! Gifted I'm sure.
Anthony Jackson makes the best bass face ever... Jazz on overload.. Love it!
Yes, and they all do one of the best Take the A Train rendition.
I play keyboards and some bass and guitar. I got hired to play keys for a band shopping their record that Anthony Jackson did the session on. After auditioning many bass players, we couldn't find someone that was any good and with our first gig coming up I came to rehearsal with my keyboards and a bass thinking we can get through the gig at least. It worked and after the gig, I worked my ass off learning all the nuances that Anthony played in the studio all the while waiting for a bass player to show up. No bass player ever did and I played bass with the band for two years. I learned a lot from Anthony. Actually, everything.
Hes not that great, just experienced in keys and not so complex playing... why many people worship him??
@@harkerroland9750 What is it that makes you think that? Just wondering what you're thinking is, i'm not trying to say your wrong or right.
You know what they say. The better the tune, the uglier the face. The uglier the face, the better the sound ;-)
A great performance by all the musicians!Thank you very much.
Che gruppo... fantastici!
Bravo Maestro Bravo 👏
Michel one of the Greatest and bass man one of the Greatest to ever do it
Best. Never get tired of this.
I asked a jazz pianist "How do you keep from getting lost during a long drum solo like Steve played?"He said sing the solo in your head during it.
Steve Gadd un metronomo umano..❤
very good ~~~!!!
Definizione perfetta!!!!
Quelle merveilleuse version.
21 years since then and Anthony Jackson still has the same face everytime

Welcome to his world... Listen to one if his best rendition of Caravan :) : ua-cam.com/video/06_uCl_Bovs/v-deo.html
olivier Dulac oh ouiiiiii !!!! Merci pour le lien !
incredible inspiration and creativity for the whole group! Each Member subtly bringing his touch to their Common Score! I'm not a Jazz specialist, but I love it when it leaves in "free style" like that; like a Trance where everyone lets himself be carried away by the Melody that he builds and deconstructs with his partners according to their successive fulgurations! And a special wink for MICHEL! Being French myself I could not fail to bear him this mark of respect that this timeless Genius deserves amply, so much he knew how to make vibrate generations of music lovers and profane ^^
Google translate will never get French right. German, jah, nicht unmöglich, but French? never. impossible. "comment faire vibrer les générations" How to make vibrate generations. Really, AI? That's the best you can do?
Michel is fab here. Wow what a recording. Thanks for sharing
