      I cannot complain really other than having to get an engineers report for my mk2 Escort for the DVLA to register it as a 2.0L

      It was in when I originally bought the car but I didn’t know at the time he haven’t informed the DVLA of the change it was just as much my fault because I didn’t look at the V5 when it came in my name when I bought it I got in touch with the DVLA but you need a engineers report on headed note paper submitted to them before the will change it had it been registered before 1973 it would have been ok now you have to get a receipt for the engine to prove it’s not stolen they should know that because that engine is on the V5 they are just being arsey hopefully it will get sorted soon as I have an engineer to check it sometime next week stay safe and dry all the best for Christmas and the New Year

    As a first i need to thank u for this video. It gave me the convidence to undertake this job on my Almera. So thanks! I followed all steps and the clutch is replaced!
    For the not professionals thinking of doing this job. Here are some things to take in account.
    1) removing the driveshaft might not go as easily as in this case. A tip if it doesn't want to come out with hammer. I used a straptool for oilfilter and put this at the base of the driveshaft and used it as a basepoint for the hammer and chisel.
    2) Make sure u have enough groundclearing. My stands and jack didn't go this high. So there was not enough room to put gearbox on me while laying under the car. I had a lifting point in my garage so i resorted to winching it up. If u don't have the possibility to winch make sure u get the ground clearance high enough.
    3) my frustration: not all clutch kits come with alligning tools. I learned u can make one with a iron rod and some ducktape. Worked fine.
    So all in all it's possible to do this on your own just take it slowly and do it safe!
    Bes of luck and tnx again for the video!

    Random question, but when you drain the gearbox oil and refit the drain plug, do you re-use the washer/gasket or fit a new one? Does it depend on the particular car?
    Very impressive btw, it says a lot that you make it look straightforward even in that weather!

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  4 роки тому +2

      Henry Rolt thanks for the feedback... it means a lot.
      In this one there is no washer... it’s a screw in bolt.
      Hope that helps.

      @@WMCS thanks for your reply. That's interesting. My car (2001 Yaris) has crush washers on both plugs that the factory manual recommends replacing. Seems a bit overkill for gearbox oil.

Could you tell me please what size the hex drain plug is as my box is noisy in 2nd and 3 gears and was going to change the oil and refill with 75/80 fully synthetic to see if it helps also would you advise some gear oil treatment like moly slip and an additive to the gear oil if new oil doesnot quiet it down. Thanks Chris.

    My almera has been parked up a while and is making the grinding noise from the gearbox with the gears needing some persuasion, is the clutch on its way out? it's about 200k kms. Another question, my gearbox has the drain plug and a fill plug, the fill plug is badly damaged and won't come off. Is there another place to fill the gearbox with oil from? From the first few seconds of your video where you're doing the job exposed to the weather elements and with basic tools I thought this is going to be a good video! :)

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  3 роки тому +1

      Try firstly to bleed the clutch. The fluid may have caught moisture.
      I’ve had it many times where the full plug won’t come undone on them ..
      You can fill from the top through the breather hose using a syringe pump

      Man, I just dealt with the same problem. My filler plug was tight as a truck wheel nut (I mean it). I had to solder a big short screw on the filler plug. The head of my screw was just round at that point. The screw has a tapered thread, so with the years that thing becomes impossible to take out with common tools. It does come out, but you'll need a MIG welding machine. Just have a new filler plug on hand and a teflon anti seize compound to put on the threads. It takes 10 to 19N.m in the filler, and 25 - 34N.m on the drain. If you want to go the extra step, add silicon sealant after tightening so that no moisture gets in the threads. Cheers

      Ref: Car Jacks. A lot of people lift up the car and just use jacks, they're hydraulic they can fail. It's best to use Axle stands, you can get them as cheap as £20 (in the UK) at least. They're mechanic lock out's and their failure point is in excess of about 3 or 4 tonnes (look up the hydraulic press channel they did a test on it). It's not worth risking your life when working under neath a car. a car on axle stands will easily support the weight of the entire car
      EDIT - Here's the video : ua-cam.com/video/7_fqF09QQjc/v-deo.html
