      @Raphael4722 6 днів тому

"ego and dogma" - some of the science-bashing in this space is overdone. Science was a big step up from the Abrahamic religions, in terms of open-mindedness. You have a much better chance of convincing a scientist of idealism than you have of convincing a fundamentalist Christian or Muslim.

      Yes you are so right.
Bernardo Kastrup and Donald Hoffman are examples of this.
The major religions have really missed an opportunity because the Mystics in most mainstream religions expressed a wisdom that aligns with science, spiritual traditions and resonates with elements of their teachings.
I also think Quantum Physics is a scientific mind blower and is so relevant to spirituality

It’s not a case of the drop that we are reincarnating to another life on earth. It is, rather, a case of the ocean continuing to reincarnate as endlessly more drops. In death we regain our awareness of our connection to the entire web of consciousness. The reason children have experiences suggesting reincarnation is that they have not yet fully differentiated from the eternal web of consciousness, and since they do not yet have a perception of separation from the web, they are still more permeated by and connected to lives on the other side.
We tend to interpret death and rebirth as an individual returning to another life, but this is only due to our own sense of separation from the eternal web of consciousness and our inability to see beyond the constraints of time.

So in other words, it’s not that we, the drops, are returning to the ocean after death, it is that the ocean is creating another drop and focusing itself on the new drop. A case of ownership. It is the ocean that is continuing to reflect itself in drops, not that we are returning anywhere, and we were never a separate thing in the first place.
Is this what you mean? It’s an interesting way to look at it, given the hundreds of NDEs I’ve watched all indicate it feels like we are returning to home.
This could be the “what is really happening behind the curtain”. 🤔

    • @normaodenthal8009
      @normaodenthal8009 12 днів тому +6

That’s exactly what I mean. We are always already connected to the entire field of consciousness. We are not separate entities, like genies in a bottle, that are recycled in some sort of ethereal recycling plant, to be refilled into new bottles.

Glad to have been of help. I used to believe in the conventional representation of reincarnation, and became somewhat obsessed with the topic. The penny finally dropped for me that consciousness is an undivided whole from which we are never separated.

Right! It is wonderful how she talks! Still, we humans do have the ability for neuroplasticity in our brain. We each have unlimited possibilities. This scholarly lady has trained her brain. However, this knowledge of the consciousness and love as the essence of life, is available to anyone without a specific education. I think some old buddhist wisdom have had this knowledge for a long time. A man/woman of the street has a freedom but does he/ she recognize it? A simple example, I have had many experiences in my life. When older, I longed for the good relationship with a man I had in my youth. Then I realised that the beauty of the realitionship is still accessible to me. It is about consciousness. A loving relationship, it's experience, is not tied with a specific person. It is in consciousness. I have access to the experience at all times. Us westerners, we identify with the physical form. Oh, I had so much love with this person. You get my meaning.

Yet another fantastic interview! That woman is on fire! I wish I’d have known her back in my neuroscience days. I don’t understand the argument that NDEs are experienced by only a few so they must just be edge cases. So what?! If the Pam Reynolds case was the only one we had, it would still be reason to call a brain-based theory of consciousness into question. It only takes one black swan to disprove an all-swans-are-white theory. Having said that, I do wish there was more discussion in general about the filler theory and its limitations. There is evidence for it given all of these experiences, but it is also true that stimulating the brain in certain ways can elicit memories/feelings/etc. So we need to account for both categories of phenomenon.

While I rejoice at the scientific studies that are challenging naive physicalism, the findings nevertheless raise numerous questions that are seldom asked:
So what if consciousness precedes neurons? Many of the great religious traditions have always taught and believed this in one or other fashion. Consider, for example, Teilhard de Chardin's widely quoted aphorism "We are not physical beings having a spiritual experiences, but spiritual beings having a human experience."
Such insights, while presumably true, ultimately beg several questions: Is reality fundamentally pantheistic or panentheistic? What are we here for, if for any purpose at all? Is each of us merely an instantiation of a wider consciousness whose sole purpose is to experience itself or enjoy itself in different formats? What if I find no impulse in myself to meditate or do anything to experience these deeper realities, but am content to live my life as best I can by being as open and helpful to others as I can be? Am I then somehow a less advanced human being? The potential for stratifying society into those who "know" and those who don't --- ie for some form of Gnosticism -- seems immense.
As far as I am concerned, I am not ultimately on this earth to be happy, though I may often be blessed with being happy. I am not ultimately here to pursue having a mystical or out-of-body experience, though I am open to the possibility that it may happen. I am primarily here to serve others in whatever way I am called to. These other matters are secondary.

@steveflorida5849 I agree as a general principle. However, I think that such a pursuit should not be regarded as the norm for everyone to follow. It is the calling of some who should pursue it with humility, knowing the experience is not an end in itself, but that service is the more important goal.

I was touched by the Reynolds case shared where she felt a strong pull. I am a Lucid Dreamer and have felt this some times. Now I understand why. I was also impressed with the explanation for the cases of something happening in a near death experience being 18 or 20%, also because people don't remember it. It reminded me the a case of a young man who almost died, after a motorcycle accident. When he came back he shared with his parents that he had seen a door that was closed. He didn't remember that anymore. it was only a few years later that his parents were recalling that, giving him back his memory of the experience. I was just now thinking that it might be why some people, even though not remembering or being conscious of their astral experiences, chnage their lives, become religious or seekers - something in them was awaken but not fully expanded in a conscious way.

It’s not coming exactly from your five senses it’s a lower astral medium, in another dimension that is very close to the physical world. I have meditated for 40 years and have been out of my body many many many times. I’ve been in many planes of existence not just the astral. I’ve come back into my body and have the experience that I was looking at the room exactly as the room appears and even see it better than in the physical world, and discovered that my physical eyes are closed! All they should be able to be captured on some instrumentation since it’s still within the electromagnetic range. I’ve heard of a Native American man driving a truck who was absolutely blind but he could see everything. This is not uncommon!

There are 112 ways outlined in the Bhairava Vijnana Tantra. My wish for all is that they read about these ways, find one that resonates the most, then practice it continuously.
Sutra is the maximum qualitative compression of language. It is only effective using Sanskrit intonation, because the vibrations are visceral. The closest thing to it in the English language is poetry. The difference between poetry and Sutra is the degree of compression primarily, and the intonation quality secondarily, which is the vibratory analog of the vibrationless. Any sound that is of maximum compression is closest to the vibrationless.
Silence is infinite compression; therefore, it is the perfect Sutra. Noise is infinite non-compression, and it can be thought of as the areas void of coherence between coherent states of perfect silence. Noise occurs at intervals, and only thin slivers of pattern principles emerge from the points of infinite compression between the oscillation points of infinite non-compression.
The point of controlling intonation is to induce specific vibratory states. This is how Sanskrit intonation was developed (based on physical vibrations that occur in the body during the utterance of the sound, and their associated subjective states and effects). Because of this, the language is capable supporting the creation of Sutras, the creation of which is difficult but not impossible using other languages, so long as the sounds chosen are intonated viscerally, but the creation of which are simple in Sanskrit, since any string of letters can be a Sutra by definition.
I highly recommend the book "The Garland of Letters" by Sir John Woodroffe to anyone looking to expand their understanding of Advaita Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism, and the Sanskrit language and its extra-dimensional utility.

Nevertheless, I also understand that this brings the mind only as far as it can go. “Melting back into the one” is so clear and “mind blowing”, that applying classic scientific approaches to explain this seems more and more meaningless to me. Without first person realizations, these efforts most often just result in complex academic discussions (called philosophy).

For me, your comment is the most interesting of all and even more interesting than the video itself. Let me share a version and vision: imagine the person sleeping and seeing a dream with characters - what happens with those characters when the sleeper awakes? Probably, characters cease to exist but fully remain in the memory of the sleeper. So, one goes to sleep again, one can continue watching the same characters as it has full information on them. What age will they be? Any that the sleeper can imagine or have information about. The only one who is waiting for you is the sleeper; the things one wants to tell you, he will tell with those characters you get along. The characters would think of their experience exactly what they should think being themselves in the presented circumstances. Hope this vision will give you some thoughts.

For those interested, Tom Campbell is also researching consciousness from the view of a post-materialist, in this case as a physicist.
It’s so nice to see high level educators and researchers broadening their horizons in this direction. It’s more difficult, from the standpoint of academia, not to take people with such backgrounds serious.

Stories about personal experiences of the extended mind often contain evidence that these experiences are very persuading and thus lead to some paradigm shifts. However, we know very well from the data that something that seems obvious and powerfully compelling may also be partially or completely wrong. The experiences can be a complex mixture of components coming from completely different sources and the new paradigm may be not much better than the old one.

I haven't had an NDE, or, an OBE. I am 70 YO and started studying hundreds of NDEs, as well as quantum physics programs on YT. Primarily studied the best physicists on YT. It was QP that allowed me to see what we are. Or, what we are not! One other thing I changed in my life was to become a Baha'i. The founder had an OBE, and gained his wisdom from the OBE. Such as, we are one human people, we must unite as such. Men and women are equals. All forms of racism, bigotry and bias has to stop. End gross poverty and end excessive wealth. And more, we always have and always will, all move towards the Creator. No heaven/hell fantasy.

There are experiments done where electrodes are dropped into the temporo-parietal junction, wherein the experimentors could manually adjust the height of the person floating above themselves during surgery. This suggests a materialist nature of consciousness, but also that consciousness can be existent outside of the brain? I still struggle to interpret these studies.

Watched this. Slept. Woke up. Wrote this down:
Truth is only possible on Earth, where things are solid matter, and thus capable of being objectively permanent across time. Thus, Christians were right to intuit that God is a prerequisite for truth. As in, there has to be a nucleus of something unchanging, for a world to accrete around, in order for anything to be "true", in contrast to the ever-shifting evervoid, where personal and collective will decide whatever is true, but only for that moment; only while a group or individual perceives it to be true. Objective truth is not possible without a world made of objects. As in, constrained by perceptual boundaries, each separate and distinct from each other. We perceive the shape/role first, then its innards are filled in later as we gain the capacity to explore deeper. Scientific instruments don't uncover truth; they nail a single possibility out of many down into being the correct one (like the double-slit experiment). So even Earth's objective truth is still only true for here and now.

O kay, I'll actually say it! Synchronicity! I'll get to that in a minute, but let me explain the circumstances first, I turned this on as a break from watching the disturbing political news in the US.
I am deeply involved in the study of philosophy of mind, idealism and, particularly the relationship between the pure Quantum State as an image that is isomorphic to Consciousness itself. What stunned me, was the fact that the 2 books that I am referencin, in a well-imagined, but yet unwritten paper or book on this phenomena, are: irreducible by Federico faggin, and The Idea of the World by Bernardo Kastrup.
The two books that have apparently, provided a core understanding for her also. How this be? I'm going with synchronicity. Which is: an event that is acausal, not likely to occur, but has a clear meaning to the Experiencer of the event. (My definition). Materialists Will bring up the possibility Of confirmation bias, but I think that is a cop-out. Yet, These things happen. They are inexplicable and they are ineffable. These two books are literally on my desk right now, I'm integrating each concept into a unified structure, How likely is this to occur by chance?

@@slartibartfast1268 We exist inside biology. we are bounded in it but, after reunion with the whole of consciousness there aren't anymore boundaries.
The only thing that every Idealist agrees on is the fundementality of consciousness. That is becoming obviously true to anyone who has looked at the disperate lines of scientific and philosophical reasoning that evolved since the beginning of the twentieth century. Everyone is speculating about what happens beyond that boundary.

I've never had to the patience to get anywhere with meditation, doesnt seem very powerful tbh... But I've done Ayahuasca many times and left my body, and had many strange experiences 1) been to another dimension 2) seen through walls 3) met the dead. I also am scientifically trained. I am not sure what the mechanism is, but its clear to me that reality is not as it appears.

    • @ojidowu

      Hi @chizzlemo3094
Two things resonated with me of the three experiences you listed.
      1. Meeting persons who are already dead
      2. Able to see through the wall.
The "dimension" issue, I cannot get into because we both do not have a common understanding of what "another dimension" entails.
I wrote to you because, although you had these indisputable experience with ayahuasca, you do not know the mechanism.
Scientists who are researching these also do not know the precise mechanism. But scientists, cautious as we expect them to be, are limiting their research using these psychedelics into very severe mental health issues that are not treatable with conventional drugs. And they are achieving astounding results. These researchers are in King's College, London, Johns Hopkin, and Havard. Please, check them out.
These psychedelics exact their effects not directly through the anatomical body but on the total human.
The current problem is that science does not have available to it the schematics and the workings of the total human, yet one of them, an anthropologist named Carlos Casteneda from the University of California, did produce a book with the detailed explantion almost thirty years ago. It is titled Fire From Within.
Over the last almost thirty years, I have been able to research the missing pieces to produce a logical, coherent account of the underpinnings of every single thing that Prof Woollocatt talked about today and your two experiences. In the book, you are most likely to find the underpinnings of what you refer to as "other dimesion" but I will rather you be more specific.
The accounts in my book are extremely detailed but simple to follow. We will however await the arrival of the Physics/Mathematics that will be capable of expressing and verifying it...perhaps in the next 50 years.
My book is on amazon if it interests you. Title: The Compass - An Account Of Our Existence From The Standpoint Of The Whole Human Form. Author: Dr Joseph Idowu OGUNYEMI

I don't know Sanskrit per se, but my language (Marathi) is derived from it. AFAIK, the "hu" in hetuhu is the verb. Like "is" but not exactly - with a touch of 'itself'. So at least if somebody said it casually, I'd interpret it as more like Freedom (swatantra - here it might imply freedom from bodily preoccupations) of conscience/consciousness (chit) itself is the cause (hetu - can also mean motive) of mastery/attainment (siddhi) over the world (vishva). But yes, I'm familiar enough with these words that I'd understand them in conversation with about as much difficulty as understanding an unfamiliar accent.

That is the exact question I asked in Santa Barbara CA, i had a GREAT JOB, a nice apt on the Mesa a bluff 243 steps above the ocean. I was 33 yrs old, I had lived a dream life up to that point, far better, more fullfilling, challenging, etc than any lige I had expected to live. A ski Instructor/ski bum really, living the mountain dream aol year. Running my construction company bldg homes, well mostly roofs in CO but then homes in AZ AND CA... big ritzsi houses, 10,000 sqft homes of decadence. Anyhow a lovely job making planty of $$ and yet I felt deep inside "i should be happier" but I didnt know why. I got a book that had resonated deep truth in me years before called The Power of Now... i remembered it since Tolle had just released another book A New Earth basically it extrapolated on previous concepts of presence being fundamental to enlighteent, like the pass code to enter heaven right here is the midst of you/me/us/everyone.

In my case, having a first-person experience of an NDE DID get in the way of trying to get a degree in neuroscience and psychology because I was so frustrated in being force fed the materialist view of the body when all I wanted to study was the full consciousness aspect of reality. The insistence by UofA that I had to have a foundation of cellular biology before studying consciousness was off-putting to me.
