Thank God we had this video, we had no idea how involved changing a battery in our Mini was. Nothing like the old days when we were in school helping our friends out. This video was so clear and exact, thank you so much!
I've replaced battery without unmounting the air intake, air cleaner/filter and etc. Positive lead clamp can be unscrewed in half, and you can just pull battery upside :)
What battery model should I look for when looking for a replacement? Car websites say a AGM 096 but the capacity of those is 10Ah less than the original and the dimensions don't match exactly.
I ing know what spec this Mini One is but it doesn't look like our Mini One 2015, more like a Cooper. I can't find any video online that looks the same as ours!
What if you don’t change the computer stuff after having changed the battery? Will the car not start? My battery was 250$ and to have it put in and reprogrammed or whatever is also 250$
Errr...looks like no-one took the details of the tool....However, a quick search shows loads of suitable tools available from the usual internet outlets, with a huge range of prices.
If there is no one available (I live on a remote island) who can update the battery data in the car computer... how terrible a problem will it be? It's a lot cheaper to put in a new battery every couple of years than to ship the car to a service center.
It may be that the engine management ECU won't acknowledge the charge state of the new battery, which may cause charging issues, but it sounds like you've got little to lose by trying and seeing what happens. Let us know?
It depends...without reprogramming, the ECU will believe the old battery is still fitted. If the old battery was discharged, the ECU may think there's still no enough charge to start the engine. You'll have to fit the new battery and try it. Fitting a new battery should not cause any harm.
I thought only American cars were built absurdly! This is insane! I can change out my battery on my Ford Fusion under 10 minutes (that's removing the old battery and placing in the new one). I'm going to have to smack my father-in-law for buying a Mini Cooper! :-p Having said that. Thank you for the video. It is very well explained.
Yes, our manual for the Mini states 'If a new battery has been fitted, the vehicles body control module (BCM) may need to be configured with the new batteries' details. This is easily accomplished using a readily-available after-market configuration tool'. If you haven't got access to the tool, after fitting the new battery, you should still be able to drive to a suitably equipped repairer. It will only take a few minutes to enter the new battery details.

Thank you so much for this video. It just saved me $300 USD. All the best.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video. The job was a little more than meets the eye.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video! Easy to follow. Changed my battery in no time.
Glad it helped
If I’m taking the battery out to charge, and out the same one back in, will it need registering?

HOLY.... SO MUCH WORKS FOR JUST REPLACE BATTERY SMH...
I SHOULD DO THIS FOR WIFE'S ONE.

What tool did you use in the end to talk to the car computer? Thanks.

Dude thank you so much
No problem
Just to replace the battery. I'm going to continue with 90's model vehicles.

@@HaynesManuals Found a fairly cheap programmer on Amazon. Problem solved.
@@davidgrauman1509 Can you share what programmer it was?
@@caseyfields438 Bimmerlink will do the job
Great video thanks a lot ✌️
No problem 👍
What will happen if I install the battery and no programming? Will it start? Can i drive it?

Long story short , the new battery will die prematurely
I appreciate it so much.

Yes, changing the battery on a Mini One is not straight-forward, but hopefully the video is useful. Thanks for your comments
Well, he did it in under half that time, judging be the length of the video ;-)
Mini is a nightmare for battery charging and replacement. Whoever designed this should go into politics.
The new battery will need coded to the car.

@@HaynesManuals Is it necessary to code it after disconnecting the battery for a long period or only when battery is replaced?
Only when a replacement battery is fitted.

Well, this is cursed. I am not looking forward to helping out a relative with this procedure. Thanks for the detailed guide, though.
Glad to help
