One really important thing with Death Jesters, when using Sustained Hits 3, with Fates Messenger, access to Strands and the UF reroll, is you cant fast roll them. Each dice needs to be rolled one by one, and you choose each time whether to use your Unparalleled Forsight reroll, or Fate’s Messenger before you get to the next hit roll. The same as back in 9th with the Favoured of Cegorach, Strands, and Harvester of Torment combo. Each dice asks you as a player to make a decision. Lets say you roll your first dice, its a hit, but not a 6. You then roll your second dice, and it's a hit, but not a 6. What do you do next? You might naturally roll a 6 for your third dice, and it would be too late to use FM, or your UF rerolls. So after your second hit roll, you can choose to UF reroll, but if you miss now, you can use your FM to make that 2nd shot a 6 to hit. Now you still then have a 3rd shot to make, and you have just as much a chance to miss as you do roll a 6 to hit, so then you can choose to maybe just substitute a strands of fate and automatically get another 6 to hit. What I'm trying to say is, fast rolling all 3 hits lets you use information from dice you shouldnt have rolled yet, to make decisions on other hits. Some opponents might allow this, but it is technically cheating, and at high end tournaments, it's very important to know.
It's always interesting to give a breakdown of what Eldar can do with an inexperienced opponent. more often than not it's "how many points is that?" or they ask to see the datasheet. the biggest offender is the solitaire. Also, I'll keep a starweaver near a death jester as a getaway car with the fight phase embark ability.

When using a DJ against Deathguard, be wary of Typhus and his Eater Plague attack! It technically isn't a shooting attack (just an ability with an 18" range) so it ignores the Lone Op benefit the DJ has. Thankfully my opponent rolled a 1 and took himself out, but be warned!
This guy is an absolute powerhouse. The most recent game I played with him, between FM, fate dice and just lucky rolls, he made mincemeat out of all the infantry the IG player was foolish enough to put in his line of sight.
I like mine inside a Falcon that I try to hide behind some ruins. Then at the start of the movement phase I use the 3'' disembark plus his 7'' move to hop on top of the ruins for plunging fire, then peek the falcon a bit to shoot desired target and gain full wound rerolls with the DJ. This wrecks space marines-alike 2w infantry.

I haven't been making as much use of the farseer guidance because FM has been tied up into the jester for me and good gosh. The jester is an absolute Gatling cannon, it's insane how quickly he gets his points back AND makes the enemy waste positioning and resources to pin down a low investment character who just gunned down a prime hammer unit of theirs.
I really enjoyed this. As someone who is returning to the game after 25yrs this kind of focus on 'how to play this model effectively' is really interesting. I've been piecing together a Harlequin army as really like the aesthetic, and also picked up a ShadowSeer, but after looking at the data sheets I can't really see the advantage of running a ShadowSeer over a troupe master, is there any reason to? Hope to see more content like this. :)

Thanks to a tactic shered by Proxy Hammer, I now ony put Fates Messenger on a Spiritseer that accompanies a twin bright lance Wraithlord. So long as a Farseer is nearby, that is two auto wounding Bright Lance shots on shooting and overwatch. Plus the unit gains the infantry keyword and can therefore use Phantasm too.
Are you trying to tell me to retire 🤣 I mean, that's a good overwatch combo- and yes, if you are ONLY EVER doing that, there is no reason you would ever run the Death Jester. If you are curious you could always ask Proxy Hammer whether he thinks the Death Jester should always sit out because the Walker combo is so strong- you could even do so by replying to his comment on this video. I am pretty sure we are mutually supportive
Having run Ilick nightspear in several games I'll say that while he's really good in theory he doesn't kill many characters. most of his targets even in guard have 4 wounds and he does 3 damage. At this point I think he's better shooting at regular infantry.
Taking the DJ and Illic qnd some rangers is great against necrons. If you can take out the characters you neuter them. And throw in some shroud runners.

@@BigMikeClockwork they really fill very different roles. A Wayleaper provides extra CP, controls backfield objectives, and uses grenades and fusion gun to act as hard target counter puncher. A solitaire is a slim torpedo that hangs back until it needs to absolutely wreck a muntiwound or light infantry unit, possibly flipping an objective in the process

Some regular opponents are also deeply scarred by the Death Jester and will change their whole game plan when they realize it's in the list.
