Feels like they REALLY want to exit the venture. Oddly enough, their whiskey has been on deep discount everywhere in my state... is that coincidence or is there something going on with the brand. When I was last in Louisville their distillery was closed all weekend. Maybe they had a private event or were doing some work on the building but really seemed odd. Anyway, I suspect they are not doing great financially. They tried to go too big too fast as a NDP. Their branding is meh, their whiskey is not unique, and their foot print is too large for their audience.
My wife and I (from Florida) did the whole shebang in April and picked two different barrels. Both are amazing and the experience was so much fun! We also bought distillery only bottles that might be even better?!. We are heading back in September for more!
As someone new to whiskey, I would currently go for one really solid flavor vs something with a lot of complexity because I'm still discovering what certain flavors are and it's easier to know one strong flavor vs multiple flavors.
I love that Pursuit is literally 3 blocks away from my best friends house. Have yet to hit them up though. Definitely will likely head down soon to check that double oak out. Woodford Double Oak and Old Forester 1910 are both in my top 10 favorites.
Depends on my mood what type of whiskey I am looking for. Sometimes I want the one dominant note to go with something I am eating or smoking a cigar. But usually I like at least some complexity to go with that dominant note. Some of my favorite whiskeys are the roller coaster rides that they bring your pallet on.
I haven't seen Pursuit United near me, but I have picked up a few different bottles online (including a rye). I have been very happy with every one of them. Going to have to pay them a visit.
I did “The Whole Shabang” when I took a trip out there in March. Well worth it! Great experience, a ton of whiskey, and brought home a wonderful bottle as well.
To answer your simple vs complex pour question for me it depends on the night. Sometimes I like something simple, like while I'm watching a game. Other nights I want to dig into flavor notes .
@Brewzle or anyone else. Is there a recommended app for Bourbon hunting. Including m.s.r.p. and secondary. I would like to see it have description and findability.
Wow apricot is absolutely my favorite fruit and I think I would go for the one note right or wrong. I sure hope you made the right choice even though I doubt I will get a chance to taste any of it. Cheers🎉!! I’m also curious where you are headed from there or did I miss your tour of the PNW? I’m in Salem Oregon area and I would love to get the chance to visit with you.
Many smaller distilleries will actually let you do a very similar experience. I've done a few and they are a great time. My biggest problem... I usually want to buy them all. When I'm doing a real barrel pick, I find it much easier to pick a "best" whiskey. Probably because when doing a barrel pick I'm thinking about what most people would enjoy instead of just preference towards oddball whiskey.
I need some some liquor store suggestions. I will be going on a road trip in the beginning of July. I will be in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Arizona. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and you keep doing what you do. We love it!
Always wondered why this mini barrel pick wasnt more of a thing. I hear whiskey theif in ky does something similar, but feels like something every small distillery should be doing.
Usually go for complexity over a single note, BUT if that one note is something spectacular, then I'm okay with it. Also recently met a sales rep for Pursuit at a liqour store in Georgia when I was home for Memorial Day weekend. Really great products and company.
I'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make that happen. Buy a full barrel and then pour the whiskey back into it except ¼ of the bottles. Which you can give away to your friends.
Usually a few months. You do not need to be a member, but members have first access. There is a link in the description to our email list to receive notifications.
I think people that enjoy whiskey but dont care to immerse themselves in it will lean towards the one noters. The people who nerd out about whiskey want the challenge of the complex flavors so they can pick out all the different notes and why they get them. There's a purpose for both of them
Dude who doesn’t like rye has not tried nearly enough of them if its only the mintiness he doesn’t like. I have plenty of ryes that don’t have a bit of mint on them (some of them even 95/5 or 100% rye even)
I have both. They are both excellent in different ways. But i would still say weller is slightly better. I haven't tried the cask paragon so that might be better than 107
What are your favorite Pursuit bourbons?
Not sure. Haven't seen a bottle yet.
Not sure. Haven't seen a bottle yet.
Their Rye is a spearmint candy bomb...LOVE IT!!!
A Double Oaked pick from a group here in Houston

The Whole Shebang is priced at $139.99USD.
Now that's a great great price! I would absolutely do it multiple times if I lived anywhere near the US
Solid value for doing your own barrel pick
Bottle Kill. They said everything was for sale. You should have asked to buy a barrel of the double oaked that was distillery only.
2:31 thats the coolest freaking thing in whiskey....and in whisky 😊
Great video. I now want to go to Pursuit and do this tour. Bottle kill!
19:35 that guy in the gray under armor shirt he was lit you can see it in his eyes he is not pacing himself😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
Buddy was hammered trying to explain what barrels he liked😂
My wife and I (from Florida) did the whole shebang in April and picked two different barrels. Both are amazing and the experience was so much fun! We also bought distillery only bottles that might be even better?!. We are heading back in September for more!
Love the distillery videos, thanks for taking the time to put this together and sharing with whiskeytube.

Best thing is to the grocery store and just smell things.
@numanuma20 "Sir I saw you smell that cardamom, I'm going to need you to pay for it"

I went to Whiskeys of the World in Nashville. They had a table there. They had the best stuff at the event. I need to head up there for a tour.
Finger Lakes!!! I had their Glen Thunder unaged corn whiskey over a decade ago. It's excellent. Nice to see them grow.

Bottle kill! I got to say, your distillery visits are some of your best work. I'm going "ohhh!" And "coool!" In like all the last few videos. Cheers!
Bottle kill and cannot get it in Michigan!! Will have to go there. TJ you rock! Cheers🥃

Definitely planning a trip how awesome
Thanks so much for this Tasting. Peace

We're building one
Bottle Kill! Gotta say doing that personal bottle pick at the beginning has me dying to go to pursuit!
Wow apricot is absolutely my favorite fruit and I think I would go for the one note right or wrong. I sure hope you made the right choice even though I doubt I will get a chance to taste any of it. Seguin Moreau is a really good barrel producer we use them in the wine industry.
Theyre the best! Just so expensive!
Bottle Kill! Definitely going to try out Pursuit
Complexity is almost always the answer.
Bottle Kill. Pursuit is doing things differently and I think it’s a great business model. Cheers to them and TJ!

Can you name some of those other distilleries that do something similar?
Nice I like a good finish
Serious question. What if you don't like any of the 6 samples? Are there other options?

I think you can buy one flavor whiskeys anytime anywhere. Complexity is what barrel picks is about.
Always wondered why this mini barrel pick wasnt more of a thing. I hear whiskey theif in ky does something similar, but feels like something every small distillery should be doing.
Bottle Kill. Great video TJ.

For some reason youtube is no longer recommending your content to me like it used to even tho I watch every video
Same here
I would like to buy a 3/4 full barrel. for my personal what am I al looking to make it happena stash
I'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make that happen. Buy a full barrel and then pour the whiskey back into it except ¼ of the bottles. Which you can give away to your friends.
How long until this pick is available? Do you need to be a patreon member to purchase?
Usually a few months. You do not need to be a member, but members have first access. There is a link in the description to our email list to receive notifications.
Bottle Kill. Very body likes flavors so Rye and Double Oaked picks doesn't surprise me. Cheers 🥃
Bottle kill. Another great video.

I uses beer as a pallet cleanser 😂
Any update on the app?
Those are heavy pours for a long day of samples. Maybe take a cue from wine tasters and spit it out?
Now this place was Dope AF
My first was Double Oaked, so Double Oaked
Their shirts look like Macs RIOT Shirt from Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Dude who doesn’t like rye has not tried nearly enough of them if its only the mintiness he doesn’t like. I have plenty of ryes that don’t have a bit of mint on them (some of them even 95/5 or 100% rye even)
Bottle Kill! Will be making a trip.
Definitely looking for complexity
They also make tequila right??
Southern Star Paragon Single Barrel is better than Weller 107, all day-every day. Try it and if you don't agree, you can block me.
I have both. They are both excellent in different ways. But i would still say weller is slightly better. I haven't tried the cask paragon so that might be better than 107
I prefer complexity over one note bourbon.
One good flavor
Bottle Kill! Looked like a fun time
Bottle kill. Looks like a neat place to visit.
The barrel wasn’t toasted, but that dude was.
Complexity
Bottle kill. Cool video.
Right! Anyone who can't appreciate Scotch is a tater! Serious though, Frey Ranch is strike two. Its good but not great.
Got the chess club doing a pick
Where's Jill n Will?
Bottelkill
Bottle kill
sounds a lot like J Mattingly.
Bottle kill
I’m sick of all the meme lord edits.
Especially since they are edited in so poorly and old AF memes. If you are going to do it, do it right.
Cool
Putting in twice as many on the next video now.
Womp womp
