I got a job pumping gas when I was 16, it was pretty much the best thing that I have ever done for my social skills as an introvert teenager, I put myself in the position to have literally hundreds of 3 to 5 minute short interactions with people every single day, the result of which that i developed quite an expertise in making instant small talk with strangers of all sorts and putting forth a good impression of myself to others. It made me good at not only getting jobs but gave me a huge advantage over my piers when it came to talking to girls.

My first job was in a contact centre. At the time I thought it was an awful idea since I was a massive introvert too. I remember the night before, my stomach hurt and I kept coughing until I felt sick because of the nerves.
First call I took I was panicking, second wasn't nearly as bad, by the end of the day I was fine. I was 18 at the time. Anxious about taking phone calls for 18 years, problem solved in less than a day, and with more experience I'm now that talker that you don't want to meet because I will stop for a chat and will waste your time.
Facing fears is not only powerful, but important. I'd hate to still be who I was back then.

I had went through a bout of anxiety attacks - I was 28 at the time and had read some material about brain chemistry 10 years earlier, This prior exposure proved invaluable, in that I identified my anxiety as chemical imbalance rather that some random paranoia. Nonetteless, I had an imbalance to deal with, so I developed ways of shutting down attacks. Example: if I were on a delivery drive for my employer, I would sometimes sense an attack oncoming. The best approach was to immediately change as much of my environment as possible: windows up? Roll them down, radio on? turn it off. Left turn next? Alter your route. I did this for about 1 year and the attacks ceased.

The bit about actively engaging by listening to the other person instead of thinking about what you want to say next is so important for those that are socially anxious. Often times, we try to pre-plan our thoughts so that when it comes time for your turn to talk, you aren't rendered speechless, but doing that actually elevates your anxiety because your mind is constantly scrambling. Listening puts your mind at ease and allows you to be more spontaneous with your words.

    How to overcome anxiety steps:
1 - Speak of/define the problem you are facing. What are you afraid of? Verbalize it. Break it down from a big all powerful monster into little chunks.
2 - Put yourself into situations where you face the issue you're anxious about.
2a - For social anxiety, practice the skills involved with meeting someone. Go through the motor functions of shaking a hand and greeting someone. Practice introducing yourself.
2b - Focus your energy outwards. Socially anxious people are stuck in loops in their own heads. To counter this, pay attention and listen deeply to others. Focus on what they say and their body language and if something they say interests you, ask a genuine follow up question. Refrain from talking about yourself too much, that indicates you aren't listening.
3 - Go to a large number of places, put yourself in lots of situations with lots of different people and experiences to 'turn yourself on', that is to learn how to act ideally by "wearing a coat of many colours". This means exposing yourself to many different things/people/situations allows you to feel comfortable with many things/people/situations.
Reading it back, it seems super simple and obvious on the face of things but I always find myself functioning on anxiety autopilot while my conscientious self takes a backseat.

Have more than one goal. Have been working on the largest or rather the most difficult since 2016. Gathering info, in various forms, free online courses, panel discussions on the Tube and reading articles and books on the subject.
See a possible website launch on the subject as early as Oct, or hopefully end of year latest, and it is extremely gratifying.
Other lesser goals in progress but some health problems slow the process down, which was frustrating.
I am learning to be patient and rest as needed, which reduces anxiety over lack of progress during rest times.
I know you are very familiar with needed rest and reduced progress. It can be a trial in itself, must be taken patiently.
    Thx again for the clips.

7:25 Recognize the bad for what it is, then realize the good that could have been and laugh at how unnecessary the existence of the bad is.
Do everything you can to never let resentment take hold of your mind, for it will most certainly take over your heart.
Resentment is a weed that you yourself plant in the garden of your soul. That weed alone will chock the life out of all the good things you have planted in your life. To remove this weed from your garden you will have to take up a journey of honest with yourself and if possible later on with the one/s you named that weed after. If you have any resentment towards them or add unnecessary emotion to the moment of being honest with them, you may destroy the chance of true healing the two of you could of had.
Life may feel like a marathon, but it's really a journey.

Steps for overcoming social anxiety according to Jordan Peterson
Step 1 - Precisely define and speak about what makes you anxious. These two things will shrink the perceived size of what you are anxious about almost immediately - 0:07 - 0:20
Step 2 - Break down what you are anxious about into smaller problems, and then figure out how to approach those smaller problems - 0:40 - 0:46
Step 3 - Pay as much attention as possible to the person you are talking to, and as less attention as possible to yourself - 2:44 - 2:52
    Step 4 - Learn to ask questions - 3:10 - 3:32
Step 5 - Pursue the ideal of being able to function properly in as many areas as you can. This pushes you to become bigger than what you are, which makes you less anxious and miserable when are confronted with the tragedies of life - 6:30.
Step 6 - Positive emotion arises from progression toward a perceived goal. Have goals as a way to reduce negative emotion and by consequence, anxiety in your life.

My anxiety is worse when I’m trying to sleep. I call them anxiety dreams.
I sometimes wake up holding my breath. For what reason…I have no clue. It’s typically a dream about stuff that needs to get done or out of my control. Or dreaming about the bad things that can possibly happen.
I can control it for the most part when I’m conscious. But when I sleep and I’m not in charge of my thoughts, per se’, then I’m vulnerable and I suffer the consequences for no real sleep.

      PROOF FROM TACITUS
Let's begin our inquiry with a passage that historian Edwin Yamauchi calls "probably the most important reference to Jesus outside the New Testament."[4] Reporting on Emperor Nero's decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed Rome in A.D. 64, the Roman historian Tacitus wrote:
Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome....[5]
      PROOF FROM PLINY
At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians:
They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.[10]
      PROOF FROM JOSEPHUS
As interesting as this brief reference is, there is an earlier one, which is truly astonishing. Called the "Testimonium Flavianum," the relevant portion declares:
About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.[17]
PROOF FROM JEWISH SOURCES DURING ROMAN PERIOD
In the case of the Talmud, the earliest period of compilation occurred between A.D. 70-200.[20] The most significant reference to Jesus from this period states:
On the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald ... cried, "He is going forth to be stoned because he has practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy."[21]
      PROOF FROM LUCIAN
Lucian of Samosata was a second century Greek satirist. In one of his works, he wrote of the early Christians as follows:
The Christians ... worship a man to this day - the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account.... [It] was impressed on them by their original lawgiver that they are all brothers, from the moment that they are converted, and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws.[27]
You're genuinely and honestly welcome my friend. You know God exists and you deny him in your sin. All obstacles you set up are futile.. turn from your sin and trust in Christ.

Paul in Romans 4 speaks of justification (a forensic declaration, or status conferred, of being "righteous" based upon Jesus Christ's person and work alone) by faith alone (a true and living faith, proven by works yet faith is the basis for salvation, works are the fruit, not the root of salvation,) as further proved by the two witnesses of Abraham and David- before and after circumcision. Salvation is not based upon him who runs but on God who has mercy (Rom 9.) We receive that righteousness as a free gift (1 Cor 5:21.)
Romans 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? 2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about-but not before God. 3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. 5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. 6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 7 “Blessed are those
      whose transgressions are forgiven,
      whose sins are covered.
      8 Blessed is the one

Try looking in the same place each time. If you look down each time, or at your hands each time, or at an object you’re holding, that’s a more controlled contact break. Then you can practice raising your gaze and holding it a little bit longer. (Just make sure your phone isn’t the object you’re looking at!😄) I have a daughter who struggles with eye contact as well.

The experience needs to be described more and interacted with on an individual level rather than general advice. It's not that the general advice is invalid, but instead that it can be really difficult to implement that on your own. Generally it depends what the cause of the anxiety is. Something to remember is that anxiety won't just go away, for anyone. The solution isn't to get rid of the anxiety, but to be able to continue despite it. Something that can help a lot involves talking it through with someone who specializes in helping people with anxiety. Or maybe writing about specific situations when you experience it could help you. It's good to try to find what works for you. I'm not sure if any of this could actually help you, but these are my thoughts.

    • @ExCalibrePlayz
      @ExCalibrePlayz Рік тому +2

Your feeling may indicate a truth, but it doesn't indicate THE truth. Maybe you won't be able to approach and talk confidently to them, in order to fulfill the motive for talking to them. But that's different from the act of talking to them for the sake of talking to them, even if it's not successful. After some time talking to them without any goal in mind, your potential will kick in and you'll adapt. Also, like Jordan Peterson said, the problem with self-awareness or self-consciousness is that it makes you think about micromanaging yourself, mostly in ways that will be automatic when you're focused on the other person. Fear of judgement can cause that. But maybe it's okay to be judged. And maybe it's okay to be yourself. Owning yourself is important. Your actions are in your control. Feelings will indicate a truth. But not necessarily the truth. I hope this could help.
Also, rather than saying you're a coward, look at the specifics of what you're avoiding. For example, nobody wants to be rejected. What's cowardly about avoiding that? Nobody wants conflict or judgement to be their debut out in the world. Something I relate to is always holding myself back until I'm "good enough" to showcase who I am to the world. This is because fear of judgement. But I've found that the way to become whole and "good enough" has always been to stop trying to be perfect before getting started. Preparation cannot take the place of potential.
Maybe this doesn't help still, let me know how you feel about it

      @franacha Рік тому +1

@@ExCalibrePlayz Sorry for the late reply, I wanted to reply properly.
Well, there are many reasons behind it. I don't have a sense of self worth, so I need to be liked by people to not feel anxious, I'm always constantly thinking about how not to bother anyone around me. This of course affects how I talk to people. On your point about talking to people for the sake of talking to people, whether men or women, I can't do it. For me, a conversation is something you survive to, not something you do for fun. I need a specific purpose or objective to discuss or else I just can't hold it. And even then I will be anxious and waiting to "escape" from it.
And only then comes the fear of being rejected, or rather, the absolute certainty that I would always be rejected, because no woman could find a dormat man, with too much feminine personality traits as attractive.
Having nothing to talk about is just the least of my problems.
And also, this has lead me to let my life go to waste. I never learned how to properly approach women or how to flirt, I don't have a developed sexuality. In fact, I almost barely interact even with guys of my group of friends, if I can call it that even, save only for the one friend that got me into the group. Because I spent my adolescence and early 20s learning how to suppress my personality instead of developing it. Now I'm almost 30, and I'm just the empty carcass of a male human body, not really a person, not even remotely near to my truer self, lost long ago.
I know the advice that follows it, "learn who you are", but it's just so vast and so vague, not only I have no idea how to do it. I don't feel it's worth it because I have already wasted the best part of life. Even if I manage to find out who I'm supposed to be, that's such a long process, what useful could it be at the age of 35? There are no more than life than getting older at that point. If I wanted to have a wife and have kids I should have already met her by this age, instead I'm almost 30 and I don't even know how to kiss a woman.
Sorry if I'm being too cynic or pessimistic, that's just how I feel. Thanks for your time and reply.

@@franacha I think your cynicism is well-placed because of how dire your situation is. Thanks for sharing how you feel about it.
Although I'm only 18, the thing that stands out to me is how quickly you dismiss the possibility that you could have something in the future. I know it's very different to be at your age, so I can't speak from experience about that. However, let's assume that there's more unknown about the outcome of what will happen if you try to make progress towards your goal. There's a chance for success and a chance for failure if you try. Will it be worth it? Will there be any use for it by 35? That's a really fair question. Nobody can answer that. And fearing that answer would make it easy to not try. But what's the alternative to trying? I fear that you'll choose that. And you'll easily be justified in taking that path. But are you ok with it? If you want more out of life, I think you should try. And then your conscience won't convict you with the life sentence of regret. It's not my choice or my life, I just wish that somehow something can have a positive enough impact on you that you realize how much is in your control.
I'm not necessarily an accomplished person or anything good, so I'm a hypocrite in more than one way when I'm saying these things. There's no reason for you to listen to me or anyone about your life, because you have the wheel. But maybe your conscience can guide you to something better. And maybe you won't need others opinions of you.

I don't think you're being hypocrite, it's just theory against practice and realizing that the ideals are something we aim at and not something where we should already be.

I'm literally scared of driving and I feel like I can't trust myself during it. Obviously your experience must be different, but you do have the wheel to your life. And maybe the way to face that is to learn to trust yourself. For me, it took time driving without anyone else around to feel ok even on the road. @@moonrockinmynose5689 Seems like your advising him and others to be consistently with the standard they hold themself to. Do you? Are you consistent with the worldview you profess to believe?

@@jordantheriverman6143 I'm not advising him about anything. I try to be consistent with my worldview but then again I'm not the one going about giving lectures about how you ought to live your life. I don't mean his advice is bad. It just may come off as insincere. As if an obese person were giving advice on losing weight.

@@moonrockinmynose5689 I kind of get what you mean, but at the same tine you don’t have to be a championship winner to coach another person to a championship win. Sometimes it just the greater perspective that allows the other person to succeed past the “coach” (Jordan’s) failures or shortcomings.
It does however kind of muddy his message a little bit, more like a do as I say not as I do kind of boomer message.
It doesn’t mean his advice does not work.
I openly dislike how he teachers others coping strategies yet he failed to implement them
      In his own life.

Jordan, you of all people should not be giving advice on overcoming anxiety…as far as I can tell you absolutely crumbled under pressure when things got tough in your life. Or was it just the cider of doom that got ya?
