and dream analysis, for sure. Big chunk of your Shadow is in the Unconscious part of you, so you need to see what your dreams are trying to convey to you. And also - what you fear and avoid - that is also the Shadow. The heroes in movies you love/hate? That's positive/negative Shadow. Study the movie characters you resonate the most with and infer from it what if means for you.

It is also easier to influence their effect on you since they are more noticeable and put together your patterns and tendancys. Or you can just listen to music and eat stuff. One of Jordan's best - and true. It reminds me of the 1994 film comedy The Mask, where ironically the beta male protagonist discovers that when he wears an ancient mask it frees his deeper instincts, and he eventually integrates his Persona and Shadow to a degree.

What the fuck the problem started when you integrate a persona.
The reason why people struggle in this world is because thier hands are tied by law and they are in a game of life where the rules are made up but are not taught.
The persona is the mask the thing that covers the shadow.
      Especially in men.
      You deny your feminine side.
The mask is portraying persona when the typically beta as you put it puts it on he becomes a ridiculous creature.
That's what it's telling everyone the people who are like that are fake and inside are weak that's why they need the mask.
      Get it right.
      Theres no alphas and betas.
Your conditioned by your culture to compete against each other to give rise to your biochemistry that you become addicted to so carry on the shadow is you the point you view it from thats false persona and an actor that you believe you are.

Shadow parts of the self that the persona rejects. Observe one s own fantasies of resentment or revenge. Notice if you are oppressed and your moral obligation is to speak up about it. Honesty with yourself is like good therapy. The journey to enlightenment begins with recognition of one’s capacity for evil. If those aggressive parts are integrated into one’s character one can be dangerous and that actually is good. You can develop grace. Speaking truth assertively is necessary.

  • @sattwa2
    @sattwa2 3 роки тому +29

Persona is not to be rejected either. It’s a natural phenomena. Knowledge of it, and then opening to the deeper dimensions of the psyche, is fundamental to our integration. Nobody goes out into the world without their mask. This too is also as it should be.

    • @sattwa2
      @sattwa2 2 місяці тому

@@shallonfreeman3100 Good question. It’s a bit complex, actually. In simple terms I would say we need a willingness to look at ourselves, to inquire into what we are both on the surface of our personality, as well as in the depths (however we can) and then to engage life from here. We bring more facets of ourselves to the table.
Integration happens naturally. It comes through engaging both our inner and outer lives.
Peterson is stuck in his left brain. He needs to connect more with his heart for his own integration. 🙏

What I have found interesting about the shadow is that it is not the act of standing up for yourself that empowers you. It's the ability to stand with others in a way that fulfils you which matters. Like Jordan says, if you narrow down the resentment, that is when the shadow provides positive solutions. It is when you don't know what bothers you which the shadow creates selfish power hungry fantasies. Integration is the key to navigate through the darkness of your mind.

I am currently in psychodynamic therapy (through a specialist service for people with personality disorders - myself having borderline PD). I’m in the process of shedding my persona and accepting/incorporating my shadow into my character. All my life I have been refusing to accept that I am capable of the negative - to the point that I completely separated any negative thought/feeling/action to that of a separate entity which had a name and a voice (a delusion and auditory hallucination). I believed I was incapable of being ‘bad’, now I see that it was juvenile and naive. I am getting to know myself for the first time. I’m unlocking my potential. It feels like I’m waking up for the first time. I feel more powerful as the weeks go by. This video has helped me clarify my therapy experience and given me a greater understanding of my transformation. Thank you Jordan Peterson.

Keep your weapons sheathed, but know what they are.
“That revelation of the evil of the self is part of the journey to enlightenment and an early part”
The shadow would be all the parts of the personality that the persona rejects
Jung said a genuine moral effort was a good substitute for psychotherapy.

2:12 I think he's referring to this quote...
“Of all evil I deem you capable: Therefore I want good from you. Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws.”
For me, hearing that for the first time was almost like a weight got lifted off my shoulders. I had always noticed that distinction, but couldn't effectively communicate it. Basically, anytime you find out you aren't the only one who notices something, it's comforting.
    TL;DR: I am Nietzsche. I am comforted.

    • @dirtydirtmcgogurt
      @dirtydirtmcgogurt 2 роки тому +2

@@lukamilicevic712 technically, you never actually lose them. The quote is pointing out the difference between someone who is a good person because "that's all they know how to be" vs. being a good person by choice because they have seen both sides of the coin, good and bad.
It's basically a reminder that we ALL have claws (the capability to be bad people), and that true mental fortitude comes from those who know the feeling of using their claws, yet make the conscious decision not to.
-You can also interpret this as "a strong man who has never faced adversity, might not actually be as strong as he thinks." Essentially the same thing, just more broad.

I believe a big part of my shadow is that I am weak in some sense to stand up for myself. I have never really been bullied at school or anything, I've just been a very agreeable person and rarely say no. That's where anger appears, when I feel I naturally say yes to something I don't want to do, (although I attempt to convince myself that it doesn't bother me) but do anyway. Thoughts I didn't think I could think of appear, and strange dark fantasies come and go. To which JP does say, it can feel dangerous and scary that the human mind is capable of such things. During times of self reflection I realize that this is not who I want to be, I have an image in my head of the person I want to become.

I am certainly glad that as societies we are finally open to get to know concepts like the shadow. We need to get out of the self-righteous mode that does not allow us to observe those aspects that need further development. For example, I am Mexican, upper class Mexican. We have gigantic Walls around our houses in Mexico City and other cities, with barbed wire and electricity so criminals do not dare to do their shananings. So what aspect of my shadow I am embracing, that I am racist and classist. I cannot understand how the rest of Mexico feels so offended that Trump is building a wall, when we ourselves are racist against fellow mexicans. No wonder the constellation of the collective has created a Wall, because we All have Walls in mexico, cultural walls, ethnic walls, economical walls. I am well aware that I have lots to develop in that department, but I would not be able to do inquiry into what is wrong with me, and my racists and classist tendencies if i was in denial, that is if i had a persona, that I am a nice and all accepting Mexican. That is the persona that my fellow upper class mexicans use, but our shadow is that we call ourselves mexicans if and only if we are with people of the same socio-economical class. this is just one example, of how deluded we all are, not only in mexico but pretty much everywhere. As Eckart Tolle has mentioned in his books, we are all insane, it is just that we have not become ware that we are insane.

Face this reality individually and collectively, and the entire narrative of history changes and the lies rapidly are illuminated and exposed. Speech has been muddled and the discussion polluted, by the complete mis use of the words "America" and
"American" . I am a U.S. Citizen, and only because I live in a region of the "Americas", does that fact therefore make me an "American".
North America, Central America, South America!. All the inhabitants are "Americans"! People have been systematically and perpetually dumbed down! Had my country been properly named, it should have been called
"The United States of THE Americas". If Donald Trump had his head screwed on straight he might be crying out to " make the Americas great again".
What he should properly be saying is, of course, "make the United States great again". Start revealing in public speech to Mexicans, that they too are "Americans", and that action would stimulate all new awareness. Reveal to Canadians, that they are actually "Americans" , and the conversation must change". The ignorant discussion for at least 100 years, has deluded the Citizens of the United States, into thinking "they" are the only "Americans"! Fascinating that such a delusion has persisted, for so long! If we used our words properly, well, I think the human condition in the "Americas", would look differently.

In a way it’s “classist” or “racist”, but not really, you are just realistic. True racism or classism is when you would readily dismiss someone on the basis of race or class alone, without considering them on their own individual merits. That’s true racism or classism. Simply being aware that there are many poor and violent Mexicans out in your streets that you need to guard against, that’s not racism or classism. And if that is, well then good luck when you “improve” those ”qualities” in yourself... you might end up dead lol

I know those fantasies seems unacceptable (i mean it's your family), but the real problem is your attitude towards them: that's what transform them in your shadow, yourself trying to block a part of yourself. Now, these fantasies are a part of your deep self, which is trying to communicate with you through out this images. That's ok, it's how our unconscious communicate, through out symbols, inner images. This doesn't mean you have to transform that into action, but simply let it flow through your mind, acknowledge them and than find a way to express the build up emotional energy. If you accept them, and understand that it's just some deep ancient energy inside yourself that is communicating with you, you will be able to integrate your shadow. Just accept them, because it means accepting yourself. Take care

You can say you took the job but you will have to face why eventually. Forgiveness seems to be a good way to integrate that as an experience. If the Persona is the personality and the soul is infinite then we are definitely teaching ourselves two different Rites of Passage is what we prefer and sometimes it takes many lifetimes to understand soft and Squishy densities of life are as okay as the other opposite. But we do seem to cover the gamut through a lifetime. Midlife crisis turns into radical honesty and without taking any of it personal it's just a purging acceptance of who we are today. Integrated

I became aware of my shadow and the dark side of humanity as a youth. Probably because of the household I was raised in. At first, I thought it was indicative of mental illness until I slowly realized that it was a product of a toxic environment. Merely thoughts and knowledge I was digesting not my personality. I didn't identify with the darkness, I just coexisted. The death and the maiden concept I guess. Seeing someone whose shadow is bigger tells you where your morality lies. As Peterson says, You can still be a good person even at heart and understand the heart of darkness. To me, there is no greater sense of evil than the pleasure that comes from committing acts. A person with no emotion is more like a force of nature. A person who rejoices in the harm of others against their desire is the darkest aspect of human nature. No matter how terrible the act. The motivation behind it. Love is a spectrum and the parts of that spectrum can be both beautiful and terrible to understand. Once you do have a grasp on it, then you are filled with inner peace and confidence in who you are. Your willpower and beliefs, no matter how meek you may seem, can not be shaken by simple persuasion. Every new perspective just adds to the whole.

    I resent the donut.
    So I eat the donut.
    The donut is gone.
    But my resentment stays.
    So I resent the donut...
    So I eat another...
    Another donut is gone.
    But my resentment stays.
    So...

the donut or torus is the fractal fabric of everything and nothing jesus and bhudda its the only science of implosion and explosion creation and destruction, rodin’s math explains the 3 6 9 better than tesla ever could , ken wheeler explains where science is perverted non sensical bullshit and everything is electromagnetic including gravity we are all connected in the aether faster than speed of light instantaneous consciousness , our universe is die electric a torus just like a magnet with electric filings on a piece of paper, our bodies are the same torus with an electromagnetic field from the heart measurable to 30 feet in diameter, the earth is the same as is everything even to plancks length the same fractal pattern of donuts with infinitely small hole at centre where everything is created and destroyed NOW there is no past or future , we are consciousness here to experience duality or indivi’duality’ from ONE infinite consciousness infinite possibilities we are gods and god here to experience and create heaven and hell while we “LIVE or EVIL” ... not the deception of after we die ...we are eternal gods and god we all make our own religions own creation change yourself you change the world everything appears differently. we are the ripple of an infinite sea of consciousness when infinite sound waves cancel each other to complete silence we are the chaos that makes music the tiny imbalance outside of that source of infinite frequency that we connect to instantaneously together at the center of a donut 2 vortices spinning in and out infinitely fast infinitely slow infinitely large and small time and no time
      we are the donut
you can hate it or love it consume it or ignore it create it or destroy it
do all these things become the donut you were meant to be NOW

I don't remember the quote, but it was something along the lines "you're not good by not having claws." Even better: a peaceful man is capable of causing great harm, but chooses not to. Being harmless is not a virtue. I'm sure I butchered that quote too.

Thanks Jordan thinking thinking thinking and bringing that thinking to a place of peaceful commitment to having a good life worthy enough to contribute to others and holding personal accountability for how it goes and willing to share some of that accountability with others when it can be given as a gift.

It was the same with me. I took same psychoanalytic seanses last year and realesed my anger, anxiety which had been kept since my early childhood. I think you had better find a good psychoanalyst who knows reichan, jungian psychology well. Now I rarely act like a child and my family also have started to see me as a mature person.
