I keep seeing this, “born in captivity = will die/can’t hunt if released” and it’s not actually true (not from you, from others, though). Look at Keiko, or whatever it’s name was from Free Willy: it was acclimated back into the wild, learned how to hunt just fine, and in the end, it chose people over a whale pod, and decided to stay close to a bay in Norway, where it was very happy with the people around it. That is still freedom, and infinitely better than a cage. I agree, put the in a sanctuary or something at the absolute minimum! ✌🏼

@@sammyauscux9529 well actually there have been ZERO cases of orca aggression towards humans in the wild since the beginning of time. I have free dove with them in the wild and they are curious but only to come close to take a look at you. The only reason there have been attacks and fatalities in captivity, and always by the same handful of orcas is blatantly obvious. They are locked in prison cells forced to perform every day of their lives. They don’t get a day off EVER and see their trainers as their prison guards. And just like humans, some will just keep their heads down low and make it through, others will be driven to psychosis and act out violently. Ashleigh Thomas Seems like that would let the paying customers that are being 'entertained' that something is wrong with keeping these magnificent, intelligent mammals in captivity for our amusement.
Richard East When I was a child, there was a Sea World in Ohio and I went with my family every year. They litter their shows in what they say are “facts” and dress everything up really nice to convince people that while it sucks keeping them in captivity, the animals were happy and well taken care of. As an adult, I know now that these were lies to make profit. But they claimed their trainers were marine biologists, that if we wanted to be trainers (which at one point I wanted it more than anything in the world) all we had to do was go to school and we could “join the Shamu family”. Also keep in mind that Sea World’s peek in popularity was in the pre-internet age. There was no UA-cam, no Google. All we had were books and what they told us. Until recent years, they were the only “experts on captive orcas”. It’s disgusting now, but imagine a time when it was all we knew.
Kisozriel True, but any intelligent mammal being confined is not what is healthy for that mammal and should be obvious to any adult, but I know what you're saying. Some people don't see certain things and some people just don't care. Well, at the internet did something good in this case.
The stadium sights and sounds, the people, the antibiotics we stuff into dead fish, the useless "stimulating" toys we toss them, the treated water, the concrete walls, the shallow depth we tease them with, the tricks we force them to do, the mating we force them to do, forced socialization with dolphins and forced pairings with other Orca's, the tearing apart of mother and baby...this is not the life an Orca needs or wants to live. SeaWorld needs to do away with the entire Orca and Dolphin programs.
There's no we about it! You and I know it's wrong. It's Seaworld and places like it that continue to abuse and neglect these poor, beautiful, intelligent and majestic creatures. I wish people would stop going. Even when I was little, I knew it was wrong. My mom asked me if I wanted to go to Seaworld and I said "Its.not big enough for them there and that makes me sad" I went to the circus once and left because of my empathy for the animals. If even a child knows it's wrong, so should they. Everyone on earth needs to boycott these places

When I was in Egypt, I made a boat trip, we saw dolphins and jumped to them into the water. They were so sweet and kind, but I had also a lot of respect for them, didn't touch them once. Who am I to grab another creature on the back, or worse, on the rostrum? I was just thankful to see them and their curious behavior from a Close distance 💕💕💕
You were wise, my friend! Dolphins don’t take kindly to being grabbed by people they don’t know. One orca in Seattle died because a little pot pipe got sucked into its blowhole when it inhaled! They can, with a flick of their tail, break your ribs like matchsticks, or cripple you for life. So you were smart to play nice! 🐬🛸👽
again... there are a multitude of reason why fins may collapse... in case of captured orcas which spend a great amount of time with their fins on the surface where the structure doesn't get supported by the water which may be a factor to weaken it; other factors may also be the diet, age, stress, injury etc etc etc I doubt that it's a single thing that causes fin collapse in captive orcas.. more so various aspects pilling up (stress, diet, "environment", and so on) all in all their life in those tiny pools is unhealthy for them

Only way to see these beautiful creatures is in the ocean not in some cramped tank in an amusement park. People stop going and giving them your money. Is she wanted to kill, she would not have bit his foot so gently. She would have dragged him all the way down to bottom of the pool and held him there. Ripped off limbs. Compare what Katana did here to what Tilikum did to Brandshaw and then you’ll understand how she’s being meticulously gentle and not trying to hurt him. Its a show of force, like as a reaction to something he did earlier she didn’t like, which often tends to be the Orca feeling she’s not being rewarded as much as she wants
It’s not an Orcas “natural instinct” to kill humans. How many humans have been killed by Orcas in the wild EVER…? ZERO. They are moral animals that understand humans are sentient beings. They kill (like people) when they’re driven mad with grief and incarceration.
Although I agree to a certain extent, they still perpetuate their captivity for entertainment purposes. Loving an animal should not involve the entertainment of others.

These creatures are incredibly intelligent and awesomely powerful. Because they rely upon echo location to get a mental image of their surroundings, sonar calls that travel great distances in the ocean, a concrete tank feels like a jail cell. They're part of the reason why there's such an understanding now of what's being done to Orcas at SeaWorld and other parks. They were the first whistleblowers who got into the job for the love of animals and realized how cruel it was ultimately. They deserve credit not blame. They are hardly the ones making decisions to keep orcas in captivity. It's the giant corporations like SeaWorld and those in business with SeaWorld who are to blame
Many years ago, I got to see orcas in a show. I thought that they were beautiful, majestic and I wanted to learn more about them. Back then, orcas in captivity was something new. We did not know much about them. SeaWorld and others in kind provided the opportunity to learn. We now know that orcas (and other creatures) should not be held captive. Most especially orcas should not be forcefully bred. Perhaps someday, humans might be able to interact with them in their natural habitat, possibly even communicating effectively. I now keep tabs on specific pods that live near the West Coast. Sadly, they are not doing as well as they should be. Humans need to be more mindful and considerate of the Earth's ecosystems so that it remains habitable for all creatures, not only ourselves.
That was great!! Whales are probably are upset with their status as prisoners. So, I'd say that makes whale training inherently dangerous. These trainers are intelligent, they are well aware of the risks, so if they want to get in the water, by all means, go for it. But, when shamu kills you in cold blood, go easy on him.
Pumped up, arrogant morons! I'd like to lock them in a pillary and throw rotten vegetables at them! I noticed that huge deep pool. Very different than where Lolita is in. But why o why, this needs to be done at all? Orcas belong to the biggest pool of all, the ocean! where they swim 100 miles per day....
And kind of proves that even if they have a biggest Orca pool to swim around they still go mad in captivity...Because this was true malicious behavior from an orca instead of accidental carelessness...
This is no life for these animals..demanding 4,5,6 shows every day, the size of the pool is= to a 5x7 jail cell for the rest of your life! These shows should be shut down, and never again get these beautiful animals! Sorry, but I don't blame one killer whale for attacking the trainers! This is animal abuse, just "MY" view
Towards the end it seems like she did not actually want to hurt him...She felt mad and had done bad stuff, but in the end decided to let him go for the side of the pool...She could have chosen a different path. And they had a good look at each other in the end...eye to eye.

Make them bigger tanks. Most of these whales have been breed in captivity. They don't even know how to hunt.
they could porbalby put the orcas in a sanctuary. a bay without an entry to the ocean.
Pat MO Eveb if it has access to the ocean, that’s fine, they can choose to explore at their leisure. ✌🏼

It’s disgusting now, but imagine a time when it was all we knew.

that's not the reason why they are down... I agree on the "depressed" part tho... definitely not a balanced life in a bathtub
It is because the muscle supporting it is weak due to no long distance swimming. Incredible cruelty.
again... there are a multitude of reason why fins may collapse... in case of captured orcas which spend a great amount of time with their fins on the surface where the structure doesn't get supported by the water which may be a factor to weaken it; other factors may also be the diet, age, stress, injury etc etc etc
I doubt that it's a single thing that causes fin collapse in captive orcas.. more so various aspects pilling up (stress, diet, "environment", and so on) all in all their life in those tiny pools is unhealthy for them

Am I the only one that gets happy inside when wildlife fights back? Leave them TF alone.
Matthew Atkinson those are dolphins
Matthew Atkinson I wouldn't call the trainers "intelligent".
Cruel.... Yes. Intelligent... No
Pumped up, arrogant morons! I'd like to lock them in a pillary and throw rotten vegetables at them! Then continue their torture by putting them in manacles and make them perform humiliating postures and tricks. before locking them back in the pillory. They've now earned a raw turnip each for their reward for entertaining us!
I swam with dolphins in sea world many years ago . The Dolphins were like robots trainers using whistles for commands I would never go to sea world again or for that matter any Zoos . They belong in the ocean just as we belong on land
It's only the kindness and tolerance of these amazing animals keeping them from attacking. Their captors should count their blessings.
Its always save the ocean but we aren't saving the ocean if we take the very creatures we promise to protect
I went to SeaWorld and watched these shows a few times when I was little, but now that I'm older I realize how cruel it is. Animals should only be in captivity if they are injured or something like that to the point where they wouldn't be able to survive in the wild and shouldn't be made to do tricks for entertainment.
"👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 hahahaha yes bravo!"- bunch of tools
Orca-"Got lucky this time...but you have to come back in the water at some point 😈"
😂😂😂😂😂 that's exactly how the orca looked at him too ;before swimming away
All of you commenting how horrible this is and yet you eat the meat of slaughtered animals with the same level of compassion & awareness as your dog.
lucky enough he was only wearing you out instead of fully feasting
That was freya, a wild caught female from iceland. She was bred 5 times with 4 being stillborns and 1 being a live bon calf, named valentin. She later died in 2015 after battling a illness and ridiculously valentin passed away around 3 months later. After this incident i think marineland antibes stopped doing waterworks as they no longer do them today, but i mean idk.
Here’s an idea! 💡 You will live in a phone booth and receive a treat for the tricks we tell you to do.. while blasting the same crappie music everyday for the rest of your life! #SMH
If I could I would give you 1,000 likes. You are exactly right.
UA-cam:Let's put this on someone's recommendation after 12 years randomly
Good! That’s what you deserve for captivating such a beautiful creature that’s meant to be free!
Just to clear some things up: This takes place at Marineland Antibes in France, and is the facility with the largest orca pools in the world. The whale seen in the video is named Freya. She is one of the oldest whales at the park.
So what if they have the largest pool in the world. The orcas are still captives to the greedy bastard owners.Boycott, boycott boycott
@@SatumainenOlento you mean Miami, FL Lolita?
Orca: give me back the goddamn seeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaa! *shriek*
You could not pay me enough to get in an enclosed pool with a killer whale. I’m pushing it going waist deep in the ocean. 🤦🏻♀️
Has anyone ever thought that the orcas might not want to be there?
Towards the end it seems like she did not actually want to hurt him...She felt mad and had done bad stuff, but in the end decided to let him go for the side of the pool...She could have chosen a different path. And they had a good look at each other in the end...eye to eye.
Close the show, set the Orcas free and you're good. YOU KNOW you have to!
This should really be banned. How they still keep these beautiful animals in captivity
