      This is Hollywood. "Reality" TV is always scripted. Look up Disney and the lemmings.

    Can we just take a moment and give some props to the videographers filming this? They go to the ends of the earth and capture this stuff so professionally that we feel like we are right there. We have shots so close up we can see the pupils of the orcas and seals. Shots from the air, shots from under the water, shots at eye level, all seamlessly put together to the point that we don't even think about how rare it is for humans to even witness this let alone capture in a way that feels like we are standing there ourselves. Hats off.

      Well being predators makes them a bit more clever in how they approach things but they're also more closely related to dolphins than whales so they're extremely intelligent. I'm lucky enough to live right near the water in Washington state where we see them semi-regularly. We have residents that live here year round but we also have transients that come and go. I photograph some just recently It's incredible how fast they are I'm talking speeds and excess of 30 knots or around 35 mi an hour.

      That we shouldn’t be oohing and ahhing over this or other examples of orca hunting behaviours and go “look how smart they are to invent new hunting tactics as the situation changes”. Because they’re not inventing new tactics to adapt to new situations, but merely using behaviours that had been developed generations ago.
      Orcas are actually some of the least adaptable predators around at the individual and even population level, precisely BECAUSE of their dependence on cultural traditions and a limited array of hunting tactics per population.

These documentaries often tell a particular story but will use other footages. I think they are different seals. The dark patch on the left arm area of the seal dissapears and instead it's a wide darker stripe through the whole back. There is a possibility that it was filmed for a longer period and that the seal just dried up, but the lighter spots on the belly/sides seems to be placed differently too.

    The seal is so expressive -- so sad, like it knows the end is coming. But it also seems exhausted or drugged? And its eyes were so red.
    The scene where the matriarch pokes her face out of the water to actually see where the seal is, and you can see her eye looking out -- frightening! So much menace, intelligence and inevitability.
    And the amazing scene from the sky of the pod of orcas swimming in formation under the ice, and then cracking the ice apart! Wow!

    • @someone-ji2zb
      @someone-ji2zb Рік тому

      @@toniiah This is basically what all these dumb seals do lol
      If the creature believes "land" to be safe from predators in the sea, then they have nothing to fear as far as it can comprehend. It doesn't start to panic until it hits the water, as is basic instinct. Animals are instinctual, and in this case the animal's instinct is mostly correct, but not for these particular orcas (as stated in video, not many orcas do this)
      Also, even looking at animals being eaten alive on dry land, it isn't like we see any differing expressions on their faces. They are dying painfully, yet the things just slowly die almost as if neutral.

    Orcas are genius. In 2019 one of them was seen with a new hunting method. It would do a little bit of vomit onto the water's surface and then it would hide beneath the water. When a seagull saw this it would come to eat the vomit and at that moment the Orca would come up and eat the seagull. It did this over and over until it was full. Others saw him do this and began copying him.

I recall a doc when they attacked a baby calf traveling w/ it’s mother whale, slamming it with great force from every angle and how helpless the mother was to protect it. It was horrible to watch and even more heart breaking because she had to continue her journey alone. This was especially sad because they only give birth once every 2-3years so I can only imagine the grief 😢 Experts have noted that they DO experience grief just as we do!

I've just watched the eagle hunt in the mountain peaks which is the next episode. Anyone else see it? The camera sweeps over the mountain range, you don't know why or what you are going to see next, until he reveals the eagles. And the penny drops... the sweeping camera is the eagle POV. I know I'm over explaining myself but David and the team know exactly what they are doing when they put these docs together. That sub surf wave and bubbles by mighty orcas are ingenious. EPIC. And seal knew it too.
