Jose Gomez Commencement Address - Evergreen State College, 2006.

An inspiring call for perspective and critical thinking, a decade before Evergreen abandoned both. Possibly just a coincidence that the college's decent into chaos took place in the years after Gomez's death in 2014. But possibly not. Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil, Fulbright Scholar in Nicaragua, High School Teacher in Costa Rica, Executive Assistant to César Chávez, and tireless advocate for workers' and migrants' rights, he was held in high esteem by everybody at Evergreen, faculty, staff and students alike, and his passing left a void that no-one could fill.
