it always amazes me how much lore there is in these games, that are hidden behind text that almost everyone skips. keep up the great work. really enjoy these videos.
What if the Dwemer were sent to Lyg after Kagrenac used his tools to strike Lorkhan's heart? What if by doing so he opened some magical barrier that separates Lyg from Tamriel and allowed the Grabbers to take every single Dwemer in Tamriel to Lyg? What if Lorkhan's heart is somehow tied to Lyg? What if his death is what made Lyg somehow possible?
What if Lyg is Earth as we know it; with humans of several different cultures, but no other humanoid races like the Elves, Khajit, and Argonians? [Possibly set in medieval times, with magic similar to that of European, Oriental, Middle Eastern, and Native American tales.]
If the only way to get to Lyg is to “walk sideways in an awkward fashion” is true.. is that not how the Yokudans and Left-handed Elves escaped the end of their Kalpa and got to Nirn? So basically Lyg could just be a past Kalpas Tamriel that’s Kalpa came to an end after Molag Bal and Mahrunes Dagon destroyed it, similar to what would have happened on Tamriel if Molag Bal’s invasion in ESO succeeded and the Oblivion Crisis wasn’t averted... maybe this was already obvious... or maybe I’m thinking too much into this.. realising I’m actually a nerd about this game ( ._.)
A common interpretation is that Lyg is a past kalpa. My personal belief is that, however many kalpas there are, the reality we see in the games is a sort of amalgamation of all of them, like it's the spot where the leftovers from other dead kalpas ended up (the Ra'Gada, the Aldmer, the Dreugh, the Atmorans, the Hist, etc). I don't see the other continents as literally different kalpas or being in different points in time, but rather as normal landmasses with their own histories in this kalpa - but they and their people are reflections of other kalpas that ultimately died, just as the various landscapes of Tamriel are. Anyway, Lyg would be a special exception. It doesn't appear physically on Nirn, and I believe the reason has to do with how it was destroyed. Typically, a kalpa is ended by Alduin awakening to devour the world, after which we might imagine that he always leaves "crumbs" that wash up to Tamriel. But Lyg was conquered by Dagon and its pieces were taken by Molag Bal, who shaped them into Coldharbour. He literally took an entire kalpa and made it his new plane of Oblivion - presumably, he didn't have one at the time, because he would have been Aedric in that kalpa. This is presumably the fate of Tamriel itself if events like the Planemeld or the Oblivion Crisis ever ended the world; the entire kalpa would be converted into a new plane of Oblivion, and the next phase of Mundus (if there could even be another one) would have almost no echo of Tamriel or her people. Then again, maybe Lyg was already a "melting pot" for the other kalpas, and maybe Tamriel is a reflection of *it,* not the other way around.
I personally believe that Lyg is an interpretation of Coldharbor. Because the leader of the Drow is known as a form of Molag Bal, and Molag's sphere is domination, it would make sense that at one point Lyg was an oppressed part of the world. Also if you notice how time on Nirn works, Yokuda is speculated to be the past and Akavir the future, but that is west to east, or horizontal. I think that means that Vertical or north to south, represents different timelines. For example in the 2nd Era when Molag Bal invaded Tamriel, if he succeeded wouldn't Tamriel have become essentially identical to Coldharbor? Considering Coldharbor is a post-apocalyptic version of Tamriel, and the said event was an apocalyptic event. Well since in my theory moving north to south is moving between different timelines, then Lyg would be the timeline when the apocalypse wasn't prevented, also being Coldharbor. This would mean that Coldharbor is an alternate future of Tamriel, dominated by Molag Bal. Making it basically a time-loop, where Coldharbor creates itself. This is heavily based on the theory of Quantum Universes, where every event creates a new timeline, and that everytime Coldharbor invades Tamriel, there is an instance where it succeeds, and an instance where it does not.
Not really, no. When the PC destroyed the heart, you also ended the ability of the three Tribunal from drawing power from it. The destruction of the heart is what cased Amalexia to go insane and kill Sotha Sil, later to be killed by you. The fact that you not only destroyed it's physical form, but also severed any other connections to the heart suggests that it was actually destroyed.
Impaleification 👍 If we, as the nerevarine, destroyed the true Heart of Lorkhan, that would mean Lorkhan was just a really big creature. Maybe that creature was powerful in a near-deific way, but if mortals could enslave it's heart... then how powerful is it? I also believe the Heart of Lorkhan struck be the tools of Kagrenak, was just a physical manifestation of the True Heart or that it may not have actually been associated with Lorkhan to begin with. I guess it's all up for interpretation. Apocrypha & Hypocrypha.
This video in short is = We have no clue as to what LYG actually is but we have sources that THINK they MIGHT know SOMETHING about it but it's all very VAGUE. I love this kinda lore, makes you think about it and it makes you imagine things.
Thanks for video, I enjoy the lore of tes, it's depth is fascinating to me and the creativity behind it blows my mind. Also I liked the way you say Vivec
I talked about lyg with some people on the wiki and presented a theory that we found made sense. Lyg is not parallel, but is actually a 2D plane of existence perpendicular to tamriel. Lyg is to simple to absorb tamriel and tamriel is so complex it cannot absorb lyg allowing for coexistence without collapse
In other words, they left it as Vague as possible so they can use it as possible quest story later on and do what ever they want with it until they finally decide on a set story of that area.
I'm not so sure about that time theory towards the end, because several people from Tamriel have sailed to Akavir and come back, and there was even a war between the akaviri and Cyrodiil.
Idk, this sounds like in game legend that alludes to how we used to think of the earth back before we mapped the whole thing. Europe and China used to think the southern hemisphere had the same distribution of land and sea as the northern hemisphere in order to keep the world balanced, this also predates the discovery of the new world.
omg i like these lore video's so much they keep me interested in the Elder Scrolls even thoug the next game is far frome being made KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! 😀
Could be Lyg is just a rumor, most of TES lore is designed from the perspective of the people who live in tamriel so everything can be up to interpretation, this also explains why there are countless "plot holes"/contradictions in TES
Actually your first part of the video is wrong. We know exactly why it's called Lyg and how it was made. Lyg is when is the map of tamerial was folded and spilt coffee on it during a fire alarm went off. The name lyg comes the sound of the bell. Good video though
davidtburr Thanks you! To clarify, I meant we don't know from a lore perspective. We know how the developers came up with the idea, but as for an in game reason, we don't really know
It doesn't look that good vallina. Mind you I haven't used it before, but I can tell from the amount of detail, it is either a custom armour, or a retexture. What mod? I cannot say.
what I dont understand is if molag bal is a daedric prince how was he created in lyg? werent the Daedra considered to be "Padomaic" beings by some, which claims that the Daedra are composed of the blood of Padomay, prior to the creation of Nirn? is doesnt make any sense or am I missing something here?
What technically separates the Aedra and Daedra is whether or not they became involved with the creation of Mundus and Nirn, as the et'Ada were quite numerous and many were created from a combination of Anu and Padomay's blood, giving them a capacity to be good, evil, chaotic, or orderly. As for Dagon and Bal's origins, it's hard to tell what exactly is true and what is just myth and allegory; the description of Lyg suggests it is less of a physical place and more of a separate plane of existence that just happens to overlap with Nirn from time to time, with Dagon and Bal being natural manifestations of the forces of chaos and order at work within Lyg. If this is correct, and they came about AFTER the creation of Mundus and Nirn and in no way contributed to the Aedra's work, then they are in fact Daedra.
It'd be cool if one day we could either get an elder scrolls game set somewhere in Lyg, or a dlc expansion for one of the new elder scrolls games to go to a part of Lyg. That would be awesome dude 🙂.
It is true that the chief of the dreugh was Molag Bal and Vivec stated this himself. But Vivec clearly also said that this was in the last kalpa. Every time a kalpa happens everybody changes into a different role. The king of the dreugh in the past kalpa was Molag Bal.
here's a theory for yah. When the dwemer struck the heart of lorkan and committed the unassailable offense, their race in all of their entirety was transported to lyg... possible?
Lyg is honestly one of the dumbest pieces of deep lore. It makes absolutely no sense even within the setting of TES - all of the events described are basically impossible because both Molag Bal ruling over a portion of Nirn to the extent of an entire continent as well as Mehrunes Dagon being born post dawn era is fucking gibberish from a lore perspective. Again, even for TES deep lore.
Lyg is probably just a distortion of Molag Bal's realm. Stories involving the creation of Daedra are usually really muddled and ambiguous. Heck, I'm pretty sure Boethia made fun of the mortal interpretation of Malacath's creation from Trinimac, and I'm also pretty sure Vivec made a comment on that story as well.
Ah, I've got it. Mehrunes dagon was born in the previous kalpa. The alternate world was Nirns similar ansestor. Vivec did mention molag bal being king of the droe in the last kalpa who was somehow a daedric prince. The same process could have happened with mehrunes dagon.
Where does this guy get his sources. I have played these games a lot and never found any mention of most of this stuff. And I read a lot of the in game text.
I wonder If making a game better than Skyrim will ever take less than 2 years to develop in the future. Graphics aside, but story and world and all that, less buggy, better engine. I can only dream.
Why do you think the Dwemer disappeared? They have been obviously seen as a threat to Daedric hegemony because they had the necessary intellect and reason to rise up and challenge their Intergalactic rule.
how about my own little theory that dwemer are not dead they are on lyg to say something to defence we know really little about lyg but we know that dwarves has vanquished what if i tell you that in the time of lyg was bleeding into tamriel threr was a war of first concule and hearth of lorkhan has made the waves of lyg far more powerful but they worked only on dwemer race and kagronacs tools had saved temriels folk from beeing transported to lyg its just my theory you can shout at me however you like but i found this a little likely
*blinks* wait, I got confused. Could you go back to the part where they were talking about the time when the person did the thing to something?...I just got out-nerded.
What if lyg was meridia, or a corpse of merid nunda before. Well just like nirn's two moons, which is the sunder corpse of Lorkhan. What if meridnunda was killed, mutilated into two, thus half was lyg while the other half became meridia. Therefore lyg is meridia, or not anymore.

Agent Smith like how his body became Massa and Secunda his heart became Lyg and the dwemer were transported there
Daniel Renwick nope that's were they found it actually xD
Actually the Red Mountain formed around the heart when it landed there, so Daniel is correct.
Red Mountain was formed around the Heart but yep that's were they found it xD during a excurvation (is that found u found it)
Is how you spell it* oml how do u get found from spell idk y my Google keeps doing that
It would be cool to do a Elder Scrolls game where the Protagonist travels to Lyg through a portal.
Or have a game placed in Lyg with different races to play as
Diego Flores Yess!
What if Lyg is Earth as we know it; with humans of several different cultures, but no other humanoid races like the Elves, Khajit, and Argonians? [Possibly set in medieval times, with magic similar to that of European, Oriental, Middle Eastern, and Native American tales.]
+J.D.R. Ray (Jacob Emrys Ray) that would be cool
when the knowledge goes sideways, that is when the madness begins...
FINNALY A PERSON WHO TALKS ABOUT IT
Too bad this means nothing because they won't do anything with this lore ever, still a good video though.
Yeah, we would still be stuck inside of Tamriel for a while especially due to there still being many lands of Tamriel to adventure.
Perhaps Bethesda will not do anything, but never count the modding community out ;)
it just works
Bethesda STUDIOS does listen but does the PUBLISHER too?
Very possible, or at least they are keeping it this way so no one can bitch later on if they do use it.

No, it was abandoned by molag, and so, would no longer be an extension of himself.
Saying about the differences in time across Nirn at the end... Couldn't this just be a reference to timezones?
Adam Chapman I’m guessing it’s their description of time zones
This video in short is = We have no clue as to what LYG actually is but we have sources that THINK they MIGHT know SOMETHING about it but it's all very VAGUE.

ayy been waiting on more info bout LYG!
Hope, Mehrunes's built on hope!
Elder Scrolls time magic makes no damn sense. Thanks Roshank for helping us peasants understand a bit more.
our earth is also a living being, a superorganism and we are its expressions
man where did you get all this information?... amazing...
Does anyone know what remix/remake of the theme he uses at the beginning of the video? Music credits aren't in the description :(
Gotta love the shit Kirkbride writes after hitting the crack pipe
From your description of lyg, I kind of imagine it as a dark world to tamriel. Equal but opposite, but with a few differences.
Actually your first part of the video is wrong. We know exactly why it's called Lyg and how it was made. Lyg is when is the map of tamerial was folded and spilt coffee on it during a fire alarm went off. The name lyg comes the sound of the bell. Good video though

Where do you find all them maps of Nirns geografi?
In Sheogorats Realm u can see at least 2 Dwemer on the other side of the Arena
Crag They're just wearing Dwemer Armour, I did check with mods and console commands.
those are supposed to be indeed Dwemer but they didn't made a model for them in the game...

Lyg muh nutz 👌👌👌

Would you be willing to do videos on some things that MK wrote or do you just talk about things are confirmed to be canon?
Where does this guy get his sources. I have played these games a lot and never found any mention of most of this stuff. And I read a lot of the in game text.
Thomas Stites It's from some of vivec's sermons and the mythic dawn commentaries.
Whats the intro song
Lyg bleeding into Tamriel could make for an interesting game.
I hope Bethesda Softworks makes an RPG game set in Lyg.
The amount of lore not actually referenced in gameplay rivals Destiny, but at least it's in the game rather than on a website.
Lyg is the setting of Skyrim Gamerpoop
I love your videos
Would you be able to make or refer me to an (accurate) video about the story of Miraak? It seems very interesting to me
Is there a mod for lyg
I haven't taken enough skooma to understand all this Kirkbride lore.
for me, If i don't hear a source, your making things up.
duckhuntdog that's kind of the whole point of the video... theres no definite answer so he comes up with theories.
I am confused how Molag Bal and Coldharbour connect to Dagon's revolution.
I WANT A FUCKING GAME BASED NOT ONLY IN TAMRIEL,BUT ALSO IN THE OTHER CONTINENTS.

I could be wrong but I think it's "lie-g" as lygg would be 2 gg's?
LYGMA?
So, if Mehrunes Dagon is built on hope, then he's not all that bad?
Rogue Drummer hes the god of revolution, revolutions are violent, he has no way around it regardless of his intent.
Rogue Drummer He wasn't. He predates nirn so unless now the they pull some doctor who shit then he cant be created after humans.
Apparently the only way to get to Lyg is to "walk sideways in an akward fashion"
lyg has so many daedric princes so lyg is the realm of the daedra?
