Arlüx during the begining of the 2nd era they had orbiting stations along with space ships. By the time we reach the 4th era the continent was so scared from war that technology regressed since it was forgotten how to make and maintain it.
It's understandable though, it's kind of hard to advance when there are almost always wars, rebellions/revolutions, invasions, or other crises. That's why the most advanced civilizations are the Dwemer, who lived underground and didn't interact with the outside world much, and the Ayleids, who were basically the first civilization on Tamriel and thus didn't really have competition. And having magic actually doesn't help much with advancement, due to the whole "why try to create technology to do this when I can just use magic instead" thing. Just look at the Telvanni in Morrowind and their utter refusal to have stairs or ladders (let alone elevators) in their towers when they can just levitate. If you can use magic against every possible problem, there's no need for technology.
Arlux - Actually, there was significant technological progress at several points. The Dwemer & Altmer are great examples of this. The only reason it isn't like how it is IRL is due to the numerous world-ending events that tend to be real prevalent on Nirn in general along with the constant infighting between every faction. The Altmer for instance had spacecraft with various high-energy based weapons & even interplanetary colonies that occasionally led expeditions into various dimensions of Oblivion/Aetherius. The Sunbirds as they were called were eventually tucked away & the program cancelled due to the immense magicka expenditures that were required to maintain them. Then you have the Dwemer who had inter-dimensional portals & a ridiculously good grasp on metallurgy & their potent animunculi. They even had celestial orrerys that could map out & project maps of all of Tamriel in realtime. This isn't even getting into tonal architects who could reshape the very fabric of reality itself. Some of the technology that we have in our world would actually be useless in their world because they simply have better alternatives. Earth as of 2018 would actually lose against Tamriel even in the 4th Era. It isn't as backwards as it seems at first glance.

@@arandomzoomer4837 Just dont take it seriously. It all started as a Tolkien's rip-off for a table-top game. It probably peaked around Morrowind, when all the major lore work was done and most important books were written. After that, TES became just a cash cow.
The Reman Empire is a nod to the story of Romulus and Remus. In the original story, Romulus killed Remus and founded Rome. Here, Remus instead formed the Reman Empire. It's clever.
Allyson Wonderland actually it was never peaceful and quiet until The Empire came and brought civilization, before that there were a hell lot of wars and raidings, slavery etc
If you're referring to the period that lasted for about 1000 years during the first era, it's because there was a Dragon Break, called the Middle Dawn, during this period. To make it simple, a Dragon Break is a period when the linearity of time itself is broken. (It is a reference to Aka, the Dragon-God of Time) During a Dragon break, multiple realities coexist, and eventually merge when the Dragon Break is over. For example, Vivec used a Dragon Break to merge two realities : one in which he was born a mortal, and one in which he was born a god. The Elder Scrolls cannot record events during a Dragon Break, so there is no way to know what truly happened. In fact, EVERYTHING is true, during a Dragon Break. So, if nothing seems to have happened during this time, it's because actually, there is no way to know what happened.
Elder Scrolls Online has been in a fishy place in the lore community, if you don't know about it. Zenimax essentially created the Great War and Molag Bal's invasion for the sake of their game, in the 2nd era. Since there's obviously no books on the matter, it's generally taken as "not canon", but there's fan theories about "dragon-breaks", seperate timelines and all that jazz, really we're just gonna have to wait and see if Elder Scrolls VI will have books on the Great War to end the argument once and for all.
Ya Boi Snow The Great War is the name of the War between the 3rd Aldmeri Dominion lead by the Thalmor and the Mede Empire in the 4th Era! The name of the War you're looking for is The Alliance War in the 2nd Era.
Meanwhile, in Morrowind. ‘Hey, should we do something about that empire? Getting pretty big...’ ‘Pff, why would they want us? We’ve been peaceful for almost all of history’
Love this video, but of course I'll be one of those guys that points out inaccuracies. Skyrim had two high kings, one for east and western Skyrim. Only East Skyrim joined the pact, and only western and northern black marsh. Furthermore, Black Marsh's large central region has never been formally controlled by any empire, having been free of all non argonian civilizations due to its poisonous air for something. It is unknown whether they recognize the empire as their lords or not, so its safer to just colour them a lighter pinkish red to signify the Empire (also reman's empire)'s claim over the area, but lack of control. Keep up the good work :)
The map isn't even accurate to the factions, no wonder since it was made 4 years ago. Western Skyrim is not a member of the pact and neither is the reach, whiterun, dawnstar, winterhold and falkreath probably aren't either. Leyawiin is not a member of the AD, it's an independent city state. Not all of Argonia is a member of the pact, pretty sure it's only the northernmost part(shadowfen). Pretty much only the daggerfall covenent is correct but even then Orsinium and Wrothgar with it leave the covenent after the events of ESO:Orsinium. Also not every house in Morrowind is part of the pact either, notably I think the telvanni aren't part of it. Northern Elsweyr is also occupied by Imperial forces and run by Euraxia Tharn until the end of the events of ESO Elsweyr when it comes under AD control.
@@anukranan It never made any sense lorewise even if you talk in terms of decades. It would require a MASSIVE political realignment for that to happen. It's made even more egregious by the fact that it IMMEDIATELY goes right back to the old political boundaries afterwards.
NaViLlUs cIrE You see, you actually need to know what Tamrielic history is in order to make claims like that. There are infinitely interesting pieces of lore that UA-cam channels have dedicated to piecing together to create an overarching story. Now tell me, is a divine Crusader wielding a blade of flame, fighting for freedom against godly elves in a jungle, accompanied by divine intervention and a war that culminates in a battle in the skies more interesting than the actual crusades? Or how about the fact that in Tamrielic history divine intervention actually happens, creating a much more interesting storyline? Or maybe even when demons from Oblivion launched a conquest where inter-dimensional portals were opened all across a province, letting in hundreds of mythological beasts that killed and pillaged entire cities, only to be triumphed by the sheer willpower of a courageous person. Now you can argue that Greek mythology supplies us with such tales of that proportion of craziness, but none of that happened. In Tamrielic history, everything recorded in the games happened within that universe, making it more interesting since you are even given the ability to partake in the events.
John Stewart And yet it was mundane (but cool) humans that created all of that, the devs and *writers (some very..."vivid" imaginations)* of the elderscrolls series. I never made the claim that real world history is more fascinating than fictional ones, to me there BOTH equally great in their own ways. But if your looking for some intresting REAL world history just watch vids about some of history's notable figures. p.s. Especially Bismarck, that guy is a legend! *(he always had a "plan")* p.s.s Also *just because some X (functional) magic thing happened doesn't automatically = AWSOME,* I could care less about magical junk being shoved into my face ever other 2 minutes of an adventure. To me it all comes down to how well the overall piece (story) is put together, which relies heavily on the author's skill (or lack of..) in telling an engaging tale. GOOD story telling is REAL magic, one of the most intresting things about any world.
Talos shall bless his mighty Empire, and carry us all to victory against the growing Aldmeri menace and their Thalmor masters. The fact that the Aldmeri Dominion has been able to fight off not just the Empire, but Hammerfell as well at the same time, makes me wonder just how well the stormcloaks really could fight off the Aldmeri Dominion. Even if both the battle against Hammerfell and Empire ended in stalemates, the Dominion WAS fighting on two fronts. I just really don't think the stormcloaks would win a war against the Dominion.
Well the reason they quit with hammerfell was weather and skill of the warriors, the nords are more fortified, they have mountains surrounding them, that's the main reason why the empire cant send reinforcements right now because snow. Weather will do a lot to help win wars.
I always found this to be a flaw in the story line. There is no way the Aldmeri Dominion would have been able to invade Cyrodil with the Empire's numbers. The Empire had Skyrim, Cyrodil, Hammerfall (at the time), High Rock, and Morrowind to pull from for resources. (Basically the Daggerfall Covenant and Ebonheart Pact combined in ESO).
The Aldmeri Dominion could hold off the Empire though IMO due to its rough terrain in Elsywir and Valenwood and ability to build navy to defend the islands.
You got to see the Empire in its golden age, and not just this pathetic remnant that it is 200 years later. I played Oblivion first, and when I played Skyrim and saw what the Empire had become, I was like "how the hell did we get here ?"
A small note, Ebonheart pact consisted only of eastern skyrim (Riften and Windhelm) most of Morrowind and Northern Argonia. Aldmeri Dominion controlled only northern Elsweyr

AD: Oh my- *Elsewyr has left the Server*
This makes me realize how long the Tribunal has ruled Morrowind. Emperors came and went in the west, but the Temple provided safety and stability for the Dunmer that seemed to last forever. Until...
The 3rd Era is a little too simple. The Empire controlled everything but each region was autonomous and there were lots of internal wars (especially after Jagar Tharn took power).
It does actually. For example, Valenwood controlled southern Hammerfell for a while. The Warp in the West completely changed the political landscape of western Tamriel, disbanding the many small kingdoms there and establishing Hammerfell, High Rock, Sentinel, Wayrest and Orsinium.
It really does put into perspective how abrupt things changed when certain powerful people rose up. Third Era was basically just "Fuck it, we're all part of Tiber Septim's Empire now."
I can't imagine what kind of research this took. It isn't like you can open a history book for this fictional universe.
3 роки тому+1
It has many, many inaccuracies but it has the streamlined line of events in order. There's quite a few more borders than shown and there's many more smaller wars that this video does not show where territory changes hands. This video also treats alliances as territorial changes which is why you see massive areas pop in and out of existence, it's just referencing alliances on paper at those times. Source - Played all the games, read all the books
@ I figured as much. I visit TES Lore on Reddit from time to time. I'm hard pressed to think of any other fictional universe with this much backstory and detail.
0:22 Also interesting to note is the various "clans" (possible seperate language families??) of Bosmer, before the first (recorded) elf king of those ancient forests came to rule (forgot his name) over MOST of the Bosmeri of the southeastern regions of old Tamriel.
The Septim Empire would've lasted longer, but then "woops, battlemage impersonates the emperor for several years causing a damage so severe that it's consequences are felt even to the day of TESV." "woops, also, a few years later, daedric worshipers handed over the world to the Deadra Prince of Destruction" "woops, the Septim Dynasty, the Dynasty which brought together Tamriel as the empire we know today has ended, the royal lineage of the dragon blood is forever lost and the Amulet of Kings is no more the empire may as well have died that day" Also a few years back bickering between the provinces around the Iliac Bay and it's subsequent, conflicting-to-say-the-least, ending may have brought deep consequences that will be felt forever, some more apparent (like the sudden existence of Talos and Orcs being recognized as "people")
And you forget the Empire fell in the begining of the 4th Era. Only after 17 years or so it was reunified. Good work, in any case, very detailed and beautiful!
@Alex The Awsome they were the only race to actually invade the planes of Oblivion during the crisis i mean, the deadra got their asses kicked by the argonians
Cool video! Bit of inaccuracies as some have pointed out but still cool to see nonetheless. Now if only we can get a "History of Tamriel I guess" now.....
=Eras of Tamriel= 1- Merethic Era (-320 to 0) 2- First Era (0 to 2920) 3- Second Era (2920 to 3820) 4- Third Era (3820 to 4260) 5- Fourth Era [4260 to Present Day (4460)]
This made me realize just how much I want a _History of the Entire World, I Guess_ style video on the history of Nirn. Example: 3:34 "'Heeeyyyy' said the Romans, eating the entire Mediterranean for breakfast"
Man that would be confusing, even more confusing than the History of the Entire World, I Guess. Even more if the video also tell how the universe of TES was created.
By 4E 180 it should have the Stormcloak Rebellion controlling Eastmarch, The Rift, The Pale, and Winterhold. And around 4E 20 Morrowind should be independent with Solstheim under its control. Oh and The Reach is still apart of Skyrim when the game starts.

Kaidan Shepard oh that's why
Kaidan Shepard So basically that period of time exists so Bethesda can make any prequels without technically invalidating lore
3:20 Well at least now I know when the Elder Scrolls Online takes place in
Took away all the uniqueness of all those lands and borders!
Ya Boi Snow
The Great War is the name of the War between the 3rd Aldmeri Dominion lead by the Thalmor and the Mede Empire in the 4th Era! The name of the War you're looking for is The Alliance War in the 2nd Era.

Man, this really just makes the ESO factions seem even dumber.
Lol right just a bunch of random factions joining sides for like 1 frame then everything goes back to normal

Tamrielic history > Actual history
Definitely not.
History > Fiction
Because it actually happend
Fictional history is put to shame (in the weirdness department) when compared to the bizarre stuff in real world history...that actually happened.
John Stewart
And yet it was mundane (but cool) humans that created all of that, the devs and *writers (some very..."vivid" imaginations)* of the elderscrolls series. I never made the claim that real world history is more fascinating than fictional ones, to me there BOTH equally great in their own ways. But if your looking for some intresting REAL world history just watch vids about some of history's notable figures.
p.s. Especially Bismarck, that guy is a legend! *(he always had a "plan")*
p.s.s Also *just because some X (functional) magic thing happened doesn't automatically = AWSOME,* I could care less about magical junk being shoved into my face ever other 2 minutes of an adventure. To me it all comes down to how well the overall piece (story) is put together, which relies heavily on the author's skill (or lack of..) in telling an engaging tale. GOOD story telling is REAL magic, one of the most intresting things about any world.

TES VI won't be online.
They wouldn't. But even united, the only imperial province in decent condition is high rock so the dominion might still take it.
Well the reason they quit with hammerfell was weather and skill of the warriors, the nords are more fortified, they have mountains surrounding them, that's the main reason why the empire cant send reinforcements right now because snow. Weather will do a lot to help win wars.
There is an in-game letter which says that Pale Pass (between Skyrim and Cyrodill) is closed due to bad weather
I like the plot of eso lasts five less than five seconds, the completely returning back to how it was before.

The 3rd Era is a little too simple. The Empire controlled everything but each region was autonomous and there were lots of internal wars (especially after Jagar Tharn took power).
Though none of that changes their borders so no reason to add it, Would've only appeared for a sec anyway.
It does actually. For example, Valenwood controlled southern Hammerfell for a while. The Warp in the West completely changed the political landscape of western Tamriel, disbanding the many small kingdoms there and establishing Hammerfell, High Rock, Sentinel, Wayrest and Orsinium.
You have reached Cartography skill level 100! Rest and meditate on what you have learned!

I can't imagine what kind of research this took. It isn't like you can open a history book for this fictional universe.

"woops, the Septim Dynasty, the Dynasty which brought together Tamriel as the empire we know today has ended, the royal lineage of the dragon blood is forever lost and the Amulet of Kings is no more the empire may as well have died that day"
Also a few years back bickering between the provinces around the Iliac Bay and it's subsequent, conflicting-to-say-the-least, ending may have brought deep consequences that will be felt forever, some more apparent (like the sudden existence of Talos and Orcs being recognized as "people")
