Back in the 90s, a mechanic could actually refuse to allow you to drive off thoer premises if they thought your shit was fucked..
Not one of the "don't up sell me" vehicles would be worked on by me. If in a state requiring annual inspection it would be towed out or authorities called as soon as the owner hit the street. The last one, not even opening the door until owner thoroughly cleans bug bombs and disinfects it. If the service writer or shop owner insisted, well, I was looking for a job when I got that one I can look for another one starting while standing in front of them.
Yep, I was looking for a job when I found this one.
Guys with such worn Tires got to be jailed! In Germany they would take away your license in some of these cases...
I would add a note on the invoice stating “Tires are in a dangerous condition. Customer was advised of condition and assumes all risks and liabilities”. That way it’s in writing and puts the customer on notice
Bald tires equal less rolling resistance for driving 200 kph on the Autobahn!

We have a required safety inspection yearly in VA ran by the state police its 20.00 and if it doesn't pass you get a rejection sticker on the windshield you have 7 days to repair it and then a reinspection. It goes on the computer so the SP know who where and what the problem is so you can't take off the rejection sticker and go to another station. When I started in the 60s it was 2.00 and you pulled a ft and rear wheel to check brakes. Its a good program

And we are on the road with these accidents waiting to happen. People are getting dumber by the day. I can't afford to fix my car because I just bought the latest smartphone since that is more important. I got a deal, it was only $1700.00.
