I have been struggling with flash photography for a year, and with getting the wireless trigger and the flash to talk to each other for a year. FINALLY with your three videos on flash I am able to get it working. Thank you so much for all the videos you make about Fujifilm cameras. I don’t think I would enjoy photography nearly as much as I do without your explanations.
Before these videos I sat for hours with the Godox V1 & remote studying, trial & error testing, taking notes, etc. Chris’ clarity simplifies it as it can be done. Glad he had a little Godox rant. Validated my frustration-I thought it was just me not getting it😅
Hey Thomas!! So sorry for the delay in seeing this!! Thank you so much for doing this!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again for your kind donation and all the best to you!!!
Thank you so much for creating these flash videos - they take a lot of the frustration out of working with the otherwise awesome Godox system. Slow and steady wins the race 😊
Chris, you are a really good teacher! I'll eventually get to understanding flash once I complete my learning curve with Fuji. Looking forward to your great work on Fuji, etc.
Love your videos and these on using flash with Fuji. YES YES YES Godox triggers are poorly documented! I have XPRO-F as well as a smaller cord connected for a cold shoe Mamiya RB film camera (that for some reason I also still enjoy) and it can take a LONG time to figure these guys out. Godox makes some fine and attractively priced strobes, and these triggers do work once you figure them out. But ouch. They sure could make their gear more user friendly. So your work here is massively helpful. Thank you.
All these are good information and tutorials. However, if you are only taking photos for families and friends, either during travel, or just recording daily life, do not get these gears just yet. I have an AD200, extension head, V860ii, flash trigger, modifiers, light stands, ML-CD15 Diffusion Dome... but I rarely use or carry all of these. Most of the time, I will choose to take only the V860ii, use it directly on top of my camera, and either try to manage directly flash or bounce it. You will still take great photos. I know using OCF and big modifier would have better results, but it is a hassle to carry the gears and set it up, while having a kid running around you, and an impatient wife keep asking you if we can just take a photo yet...before you invest all these gears, think about the experience of people around you, learn to use on-camera flash first.
Good point. I’m always trying to balance those tradeoffs of time, gear-number of pieces and luggability, complexity and coordinating a group with wanting the best quality shot. Not to mention jumping into the family shot myself. Last effort was manual, Godox V1, X2 remote, bounced off of a rectangular reflector on portable stand.
Great tutorial. I have learnt a lot from your videos. I have managed to get my Godox V1 talking to the X2T. Is it possible to use the X-T4 flash menu to adjust my flash intensity? The menu seems to bypass M and only switches between MULTI and TTL.
Fantastic primer on getting the Godox to play nice with the Fuji. I've had the Godox for 2 years, and finally I understand how to make them connect, why to make them connect, and the basics of flash. Shutter for background, aperture for DOF and flash power for the subject's exposure was a revelation to me. Thanks.
Chris, thank you soooo match! I was waiting this video since part two and now my flash and remote trigger are finally connected! Please, keep making this series :)
Thank you Chris. You absolutely right Godox needs to make their UI better for sure. I have had a problem with my Godox MS 200/300 and the TT350 where you can't set on the Xpro to trigger the flashes in groups and the MS200/300 don't use ID mode while the TT350 will require the ID selection before it communicates with the trigger. So what I ended up doing is just remote the TT350 with the trigger while the MS flashes work as slaves to the TT350 as they will trigger as they see the other go off. Weird but that's the best one could do under the circumstances!
Awesome video Chris! I have learned so much although I have been shooting off camera flash for a while now. I haven't been aware of the wireless ID at all and have just picked a random channel. (I have been by myself, no other photographers in sight.) I am also thankful for mentioning the distance setting. My impression is that I have never have understood the trigger completely until now and just have been lucky that it worked out in most of the cases. Thank you so much! I am convinced I wouldn't be able to use my Fuji without your tutorials and I am very thankful for what you are doing! 🙏
Big shout out to you Chris for putting out educational videos like these. You played such a big part in my photography journey! Thank you so much for your dedication and empowerment to photographers like me! I still have a long journey to go. Kudos for being a wonderful teacher!
I just bought a Flashpoint lion iii R2 TTl because of the no AA batteries, better made hot shoe aledgedly, and Now its time to get to work. You have made my Fuji experience unbelievable. Thanks for sharing all of your expirience, and hard work.
Late to this tutorial but found it a life saver. Amateur and have always avoided flash - next Monday I'm doing an 'at work shoot' as a favour for a group of volunteers who are restoring a sailing vessel in a barn that has lighting all over the place. Only one flash and you have taught me to a point where, at least, I now stand some chance of success - thank you so much for all the effort you put into this - invaluable.
These videos are a God send for me. They have already de-mystified so much of the basics that was preventing me from doing any flash work. Can't wait for Number 4!
A note since everyone researching Fuji flashes will end up here: Two V350F’s is a fantastic way to get two flashes with wireless control. No separate controller needed. You can set the on-camera V350F off and trigger the remote, or you can bounce the on-camera and use the remote for key. Both work with TTL at the same time and you can balance with e/v comp on the flashes.
Great video, I had taken days to set this up by myself. You have mentioned the top four settings that everyone need to know for the flash. Keep up the good work..
This is series is a great resource, I have watched it many times when I am having technical problems with my flashes to make certain I am not doing anything silly and to see the rant about the terrible menus haha. Thank you for your work on these and your clear explainations. If you ever make a part four I will be the first to watch it!
This is an incredibly useful video. I'm absolutely convinced that you saved me days of frustration and aggravation with respect to using the XT2, so thank you!!! That said, your teaching style is a bit choppy and part of the problem is the UA-cam format. It takes time to get set up and do stuff and lots of information can blow by in that time. Meanwhile while I'm fumbling around with buttons and attempting to remember everything that you said, you've gone to a whole other set of steps, and there is no review of what you've just accomplished. All that said, this video is a true treasure. Thank you so much, so far everything seems to be working at least enough to give me some good photos and really make me value my camera even more.
You are an awesome teacher! My wife and I watch your videos to learn about photography in general (my wife doesnt even have a fujifilm camera) Thanks for sharing your knowledge, we would take a course from you without doubt. We are patiently waiting for the next flash photograpy lesson!
Im new to Fuji and I have to say your channel has been a great help easing me into the Fuji system and as for the Flash and remote triggers I see they are just as flaky as the Yongnuo ones I used when I shot with a Canon. Looking forward to my Flash and trigger to arrive when I will probably need to return to this video.
Déjame decirte que después de ver las tres lecciones y hacer los ejercicios me queda todo claro. ahora voy a practicar. No sólo fue útil y entretenido, fue fantástico. Muchas gracias.
Don't use the x2t trigger. It's bugged on Fujifilm. After some extended use, it freezes up the camera, so you can't shoot an image anymore. You gotta turn it on and off frequently. The xpro trigger and even the x1t trigger don't have this problem. It's a well known bug only in the Fujifilm version.
Hello Chris, I think the XProII trigger is much better and if you want to use a Godox flash ON your camera, you can use it as a trigger for other flashes as well.
Hi Chris and thank you for your time! I'd like to let you know of a few issues I had with the Godox TT685 (F) flash and the XPro (F) trigger. First issue: there is no way to scan channels with the XPro (F) trigger. Second issue: the battery indication on the trigger only refers to AA alkaline batteries! It does not work with Ni-MH batteries (e.g. Eneloop batteries).Third issue: it is not always possible to set the flash parameters - as channel, group, mode and power - through the camera. This is true, for example, when the flash is used as a master to control other flashes.
Thanks for all of your videos , I really learned a lot from your tutorials, you make me love my fujifilm gears more and more. I hope you can start a series to explain how you can get a maximum of old or entry level Fujifilm cameras. Such as XA5 etc . With photo samples taken with it. Thanks again and have a good day.
Elliot!! So sorry I didn't see this until just now. Wow, thank you so much for doing this!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again for your kind donation and all the best to you!!!
I rented a Godox and after 2 hours of using it i returned it (got charged the whole day) and rented a Nissin and OMG the difference in the UI is lightyears
Hi there! I use Yongnuo flash units together with a YN622-TX trigger and 2x YN622i-TTL. I mention it because communication between trigger and receiver is the easiest thing you can find. (pls see 3:30mns).
By the way, my trigger and receiver are Nikon models, but I use them without any problem with my Fujifilm X-30 II. The only thing is that you can't drive them from your camera, but direct on the trigger. The Fuji hot shoe has a universal pin to fire any flash, and this is the only thing we need if we accept to set up the trigger in place of the camera.
Best thing about Xt2 triggers is there is also an APP that you can download and it makes changing multiple flashes without having to touch trigger once all flashes are connected to trigger.
Wow, thank you so much! I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. Thank you so much for supporting the channel!! I really appreciate it!! Cheers! 🙏 👍
I have this Godox system for my Fuji cameras, but I also have the Nissin system. The Nissin system is much more intuitive and easy to understand; especially the Air 10S. It is pricier, but you can get used equipment sometimes for very reasonable amounts. You really only need to buy the trigger for the camera system that you have. All of their flashes will work with any of their triggers, no matter what camera system they were originally intended for. For example, I have Fuji and Canon i60a flashes, and Fuji, 4/3, and Sony Di700a flashes. They all work with the same trigger. The last two Sony Di700a flashes that I bought cost $60 each, in like new condition. The difference between the power output of the i60a and the Di700a flash is only a third of a stop. If you use something like a FlashQ trigger on your camera, you don't even need a camera brand dedicated Nissin trigger. Put any Nissin trigger on the FlashQ receiver, keep it nearby, and control any number of flashes from your position. The FlashQ is not as reliable as my Radiopopper Nano, but it's pretty good.
These are GREAT trainings!! Thanks for these. I do have a question and I'm not sure where to go for support on this. I bought an X2T and I'm able to get it to work in Manual with the TT685IIF (I think it's working), but when I go into the Flash Menu on my xt-4, it's cycling through M, TTL, Off, and Multi on its own. I watch it changing settings and I'm not touching anything. The net effect is that I cannot making any changes to the flash setting in camera. This does NOT occur when my TT685IIF is on the camera. I don't think it's a defective X2T trigger, because I've already returned one back to Amazon and it's happening with the second unit too. Should I not be worried, because I am able to get the unit to work by just using the Flash and X2T menus and not using the menus on the camera. Anyone have insights? TIA!!!
This video is awesome Chris, you really are the best at explaining everything clearly and concisely! I have used Godox flashes and triggers in the past and I can certainly empathise with the frustration when first trying to set them up. I just ordered the X2T along with the TT685II to get some nice photos this Christmas, and this video will serve as the best reference for when I am setting everything up! Thanks for your continued great work!
Thanks for another really helpful video Chris. I have a Godox TT685ii f and a TT350 f which, thanks to you, are now working fine on two separate groups. The little TT350 makes a great fill light. Incidentally, on my TT685ii, ‘slave’ has been replaced by ‘RX’ (‘receiver’). I understand that there’s a firmware update that makes this change. I also have TT685ii c which I use with my Canon EOS film cameras. I have this theory that I might be able to fire this with my Fujifilm trigger, on the basis that with the flash being off the camera, it might not care what the trigger is, or what it’s mounted on. All it will see is an instruction to fire. I’m going to try it! Keep up the great work.
Hi John, I bought a tt68f IIf and trigger x2tf. However, when I set the flash and the trigger to manual, I am unable to set the camera to manual as well. It still shows TTL. I can toggle between multi and off and TTL only. please help (if you can). thanks! I have an X-t3
Another great thing about Godox is if you have bought one of their flashes on Sony you can use them on Fuji with all their functionality if you have an external trigger like the ones shown here
I bought a speed light for my Fuji cameras not long ago and stayed away from Godox precisely because of the awful UI. I bought a Profit A1X and the Profoto Connect instead. Not w/o issues but the interface is brilliant.
Hello Chris or anyone that can help :) I bought a tt68f IIf and trigger x2tf. However, when I set the flash and the trigger to manual, I am unable to set the camera to manual as well. It still shows TTL. I can toggle between multi and off and TTL only. please help. thanks! I have an X-t3
The x2t transmitter does not allow any fuji camera to enter Manual flash mode. The only options you have are ttl and multi mode. It is a firmware bug of the x2t with fuji cameras. Get a x1t transmitter and you can operate your flashes from the camera in Manual, TTL and multi modes. This big issue is the reason that i don’t recommend the x2t. I drove myself nuts trying to figure this out and after some research, found that the issue is the x2t transmitter itself. Ended up buying the older x1t and after a firmware update on the x1t transmitter, i can change between and use all 3 flash modes in camera with the x1t. Ditch the x2t and get yourself a x1t and update its firmware to latest version. The x2t is still buggy on fuji cameras even with the latest firmware update. Avoid the x2t for now, until godox decides to resolve these issues and bugs with a new firmware.
Re: Suggested New Vlog Topic I love your channel and have been watching for a few years now, you have a very good communication style and an ability to simplify what can be complex issues. Ideal as an educator! I have been shooting Fujifilm for about 8 years now and have an X-T4 and recently bought the H2-S because I do a lot of event (weddings/ parties/ christenings and sports events of my son) and I am still to fully get to grips with the AF functionality for humans. (I don't shoot bikes, animals, birds, trains which seems where the bulk of the FFilm marketing has been aimed) I am specifically interested in AF functions for people as I struggle to get it to work effectively by just pressing FACE/EYE detect. I wonder if I have my settings wrong somehow? I am not a novice (been a pro for about 10 years) and I used the red label lenses, so wonder what I doing wrong as it doesn't seem to work so well? If you could put together a video specifically focused on Fujifilm AF for event photographers this would be gratefully appreciated. Nobody seems to have done this yet. Anyway, keep up the good work!
In previous lessons you showed how to control the flash settings (M or TTL) from the camera menu. When I use the X2T I am no longer able to make those changes from the camera. Can you explain why?
I’ve seen problems with what you describe that seem to be firmware related You have 3 firmware versions now in play. Fw version of camera, fw of godox x2T and the firmware of the godox flash ( less important probably) Try updating controller first, then camera if that didn’t fix problem Godox firmware updates are an ordeal , hopefully you don’t brick one. Good luck
First, this is an excellent series that clearly explains the issues so that the recommended approach is understandable. I own both a Fuji X100V and a Panasonic G9. My question is how would the Fuji Godox work with Panasonic MFT? Clearly TTL would not work, nor could settings be made from camera, but would the flash otherwise fire at the manual setting? Also, if I were to purchase an additional wireless unit--say for Olympic/Panasonic would I achieve improved functionality with the G9-TT350F combination?
please Lesson 4! Lesson are amazing
I am seeking lesson four too. I have learned a lot, and I got the kit.
My Godox trigger has been frustratingly unreliable for years. Now I know where to look to solve it. Thanks so much!
I have been struggling with flash photography for a year, and with getting the wireless trigger and the flash to talk to each other for a year. FINALLY with your three videos on flash I am able to get it working. Thank you so much for all the videos you make about Fujifilm cameras. Hey Thomas!! So sorry for the delay in seeing this!! Thank you so much for doing this!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again for your kind donation and all the best to you!!!
I mean it is not that hard. Yes it is not easy to get used to but struggling for a year. oh boy!
I'm turning 75 years and have had a camera in my head since I was 11. Your flash class made my day.
Thank you so much for creating these flash videos - they take a lot of the frustration out of working with the otherwise awesome Godox system. Slow and steady wins the race 😊
Great lessons! Will you be continuing this series??
I finally picked up a X2T-F trigger and set it up with my TT685ii-F flash. Can't wait until Lesson 4!
Chris, you are a really good teacher! I'll eventually get to understanding flash once I complete my learning curve with Fuji. Looking forward to your great work on Fuji, etc.

Use the tools for the job. Simples. That has no bearing on how useful this series of informative videos will be to many people.
Chris, I use Nikon but i prefer your flash videos. You are the best teacher when it comes to camera gear!

@@madfinntech seems like it’s up to us to learn it by ourselves, haha. Like he gave us the the fishing rod, not the fish

Agreed! So let’s all donate a few bucks to show Chris our gratitude on Thanksgiving.
Big shout out to you Chris for putting out educational videos like these. You played such a big part in my photography journey! Thank you so much for your dedication and empowerment to photographers like me! I still have a long journey to go. Kudos for being a wonderful teacher!

As I take my steps into making Fuji my main workhorse and relearning flash again these videos have been a great help thank you
Love this, and so glad I finally made the connection work. Now I long for lessons four with all the teasers you offered in the three first lessons.
As always, easy to follow and straight to the point(s). Good work.
so helpfull!! many many thanks

Hello Chris, I think the XProII trigger is much better and if you want to use a Godox flash ON your camera, you can use it as a trigger for other flashes as well.
Just subscribed to your channel.. Your channel is mandatory for all of Fuji users. Highly recommended. Thanks !!
Is there going to be lesson 4? I'm. looking forward to it! Please teach us how to freeze motion!
oops - I must go for lesson 1 and 2!
Hi Chris and thank you for your time! I'd like to let you know of a few issues I had with the Godox TT685 (F) flash and the XPro (F) trigger. Brilliant demystification of flash
Thanks!
Elliot!! So sorry I didn't see this until just now. Wow, thank you so much for doing this!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again for your kind donation and all the best to you!!!
These lessons are great Chris - thanks very much. I'm really looking forward to Lesson 4 (once you've got through your various household travails!).
My X2T and TT350 have arrived! Wish me luck!

You rock! I would not have nearly the level of understanding about my camera or photography in general if not for your videos
So sorry I didn't see this until today!! Thank you so much for supporting the channel!! I really appreciate it!! Cheers! 🙏 👍
Thanks! You have been amazing in your Fujiflim cameras & all the tutorials & reviews. Kudos

Thanks for the Flash photography series!
Thank You for such a detailed and easy to understand explanation.
Hi! Thank you, I set my flash according to your video)) ARe we going to see the 4th lesson? 🐱
Great series. I own all this stuff but have learned some nice little touches like extended standby and wireless ID. Thanks!
Awesome lesson, thanks very much. You are de-mystifying flash for me.
Really useful and well presented with no fluff! Thank you so much!
TIA!!!
Similar issue with my X2T F as well if not the same, pretty much stuck in Manual mode. Also, HSS won't work while using trigger😮💨
Super helpful tutorial, the little guide to the trigger is not intuitive. This really helped.
This video is the best Manual for X2T wireless Trigger.
Just what I need! Thanks Chris! 🙏
Cheers!! 👍
What a video Chris!!!! excellent content for all fuji users!
Thank you so much for this
Thanks Cris! more power to pal2tech!
Thank you for the lesson ! Can't wait to see what we'll do int he next one !!
Gah you are SUCH A GOOD TEACHER
Thank you so much!
I hope you include a lesson sometime for fill flash that can be 'on the camera' or handheld by the photographer.
Very well presented. Even I can follow it easily 😁
Patiently waiting for number 4!!! 😂
Another great thing about Godox is if you have bought one of their flashes on Sony you can use them on Fuji with all their functionality if you have an external trigger like the ones shown here
Looking forward for the next lesson sir 👏
Thanks for another great video, hope you continue with these as the subject is a difficult one.
You can also use the small flash that came with your camera, dial the power down and use it to trigger an external flash. This will reduce cost a bit.
Thank you very much Chris. Been looking forward to this.
Hi Chris, love your videoes, as if you don't know, thanks for sharing.
Very very useful, thank you for this series, explained so well.
Great video, Chris. Thank you very much.
Pal 2 tec u are the best ❤❤❤❤
Fantastic lesson, Chris! Thanks!!!
Dude you are awesome!!! Very valuable channel! 🎉
Thank you Paul 💪💪💪💪
Super helpful and very clear 🙏🙏🙏😎
Re: Suggested New Vlog Topic
I love your channel and have been watching for a few years now, you have a very good communication style and an ability to simplify what can be complex issues. Ideal as an educator!
I have been shooting Fujifilm for about 8 years now and have an X-T4 and recently bought the H2-S because I do a lot of event (weddings/ parties/ christenings and sports events of my son) and I am still to fully get to grips with the AF functionality for humans. (I don't shoot bikes, animals, birds, trains which seems where the bulk of the FFilm marketing has been aimed)
I am specifically interested in AF functions for people as I struggle to get it to work effectively by just pressing FACE/EYE detect.
📸Thanks Chris!
I would love to have a lesson where to place your deported flash during a portrait session in a studio (i f you have also 2 or 3 key lights on).
Absolutely excellent!
Thank you very much for your lesson 3 but I cannot find lesson 4. A
Nice! I've been waiting for this one.
In previous lessons you showed how to control the flash settings (M or TTL) from the camera menu. When I use the X2T I am no longer able to make those changes from the camera. Can you explain why?
I’ve seen problems with what you describe that seem to be firmware related
You have 3 firmware versions now in play.
Fw version of camera, fw of godox x2T and the firmware of the godox flash ( less important probably)
Try updating controller first, then camera if that didn’t fix problem
Godox firmware updates are an ordeal , hopefully you don’t brick one.
Good luck
Any luck in finding out why ?
@@ps_pix_art Nope. Ended up switching to Sony gear in the long run anyway.
@@GregCoonrod Okay. Have fun shooting 😀
