I have been struggling with flash photography for a year, and with getting the wireless trigger and the flash to talk to each other for a year. FINALLY with your three videos on flash I am able to get it working. Thank you so much for all the videos you make about Fujifilm cameras. I don’t think I would enjoy photography nearly as much as I do without your explanations.

Before these videos I sat for hours with the Godox V1 & remote studying, trial & error testing, taking notes, etc. Chris’ clarity simplifies it as it can be done.
Glad he had a little Godox rant. Validated my frustration-I thought it was just me not getting it😅

Love your videos and these on using flash with Fuji. YES YES YES Godox triggers are poorly documented! I have XPRO-F as well as a smaller cord connected for a cold shoe Mamiya RB film camera (that for some reason I also still enjoy) and it can take a LONG time to figure these guys out. Godox makes some fine and attractively priced strobes, and these triggers do work once you figure them out. But ouch. They sure could make their gear more user friendly. So your work here is massively helpful. Thank you.

All these are good information and tutorials. However, if you are only taking photos for families and friends, either during travel, or just recording daily life, do not get these gears just yet. I have an AD200, extension head, V860ii, flash trigger, modifiers, light stands, ML-CD15 Diffusion Dome... but I rarely use or carry all of these. Most of the time, I will choose to take only the V860ii, use it directly on top of my camera, and either try to manage directly flash or bounce it. You will still take great photos. I know using OCF and big modifier would have better results, but it is a hassle to carry the gears and set it up, while having a kid running around you, and an impatient wife keep asking you if we can just take a photo yet...before you invest all these gears, think about the experience of people around you, learn to use on-camera flash first.

Good point. I’m always trying to balance those tradeoffs of time, gear-number of pieces and luggability, complexity and coordinating a group with wanting the best quality shot. Not to mention jumping into the family shot myself.
Last effort was manual, Godox V1, X2 remote, bounced off of a rectangular reflector on portable stand.

Great tutorial. I have learnt a lot from your videos. I have managed to get my Godox V1 talking to the X2T. Is it possible to use the X-T4 flash menu to adjust my flash intensity? The menu seems to bypass M and only switches between MULTI and TTL.

Fantastic primer on getting the Godox to play nice with the Fuji. I've had the Godox for 2 years, and finally I understand how to make them connect, why to make them connect, and the basics of flash. Shutter for background, aperture for DOF and flash power for the subject's exposure was a revelation to me. Thanks.

Thank you Chris. You absolutely right Godox needs to make their UI better for sure. I have had a problem with my Godox MS 200/300 and the TT350 where you can't set on the Xpro to trigger the flashes in groups and the MS200/300 don't use ID mode while the TT350 will require the ID selection before it communicates with the trigger. So what I ended up doing is just remote the TT350 with the trigger while the MS flashes work as slaves to the TT350 as they will trigger as they see the other go off. Weird but that's the best one could do under the circumstances!

Awesome video Chris! I have learned so much although I have been shooting off camera flash for a while now. I haven't been aware of the wireless ID at all and have just picked a random channel. (I have been by myself, no other photographers in sight.) I am also thankful for mentioning the distance setting. My impression is that I have never have understood the trigger completely until now and just have been lucky that it worked out in most of the cases. Thank you so much! I am convinced I wouldn't be able to use my Fuji without your tutorials and I am very thankful for what you are doing! 🙏

Late to this tutorial but found it a life saver. Amateur and have always avoided flash - next Monday I'm doing an 'at work shoot' as a favour for a group of volunteers who are restoring a sailing vessel in a barn that has lighting all over the place. Only one flash and you have taught me to a point where, at least, I now stand some chance of success - thank you so much for all the effort you put into this - invaluable.

A note since everyone researching Fuji flashes will end up here: Two V350F’s is a fantastic way to get two flashes with wireless control. No separate controller needed. You can set the on-camera V350F off and trigger the remote, or you can bounce the on-camera and use the remote for key. Both work with TTL at the same time and you can balance with e/v comp on the flashes.

This is an incredibly useful video. I'm absolutely convinced that you saved me days of frustration and aggravation with respect to using the XT2, so thank you!!! That said, your teaching style is a bit choppy and part of the problem is the UA-cam format. It takes time to get set up and do stuff and lots of information can blow by in that time. Meanwhile while I'm fumbling around with buttons and attempting to remember everything that you said, you've gone to a whole other set of steps, and there is no review of what you've just accomplished. All that said, this video is a true treasure. Thank you so much, so far everything seems to be working at least enough to give me some good photos and really make me value my camera even more.

Don't use the x2t trigger. It's bugged on Fujifilm. After some extended use, it freezes up the camera, so you can't shoot an image anymore. You gotta turn it on and off frequently. The xpro trigger and even the x1t trigger don't have this problem. It's a well known bug only in the Fujifilm version.

Hi Chris and thank you for your time! I'd like to let you know of a few issues I had with the Godox TT685 (F) flash and the XPro (F) trigger. First issue: there is no way to scan channels with the XPro (F) trigger. Second issue: the battery indication on the trigger only refers to AA alkaline batteries! It does not work with Ni-MH batteries (e.g. Eneloop batteries).Third issue: it is not always possible to set the flash parameters - as channel, group, mode and power - through the camera. This is true, for example, when the flash is used as a master to control other flashes.

Hi there! I use Yongnuo flash units together with a YN622-TX trigger and 2x YN622i-TTL. I mention it because communication between trigger and receiver is the easiest thing you can find. (pls see 3:30mns).

    • @PikPikkabbu
      @PikPikkabbu 9 місяців тому

By the way, my trigger and receiver are Nikon models, but I use them without any problem with my Fujifilm X-30 II. The only thing is that you can't drive them from your camera, but direct on the trigger. The Fuji hot shoe has a universal pin to fire any flash, and this is the only thing we need if we accept to set up the trigger in place of the camera.

  • @NickandCindyDavis

I have this Godox system for my Fuji cameras, but I also have the Nissin system. The Nissin system is much more intuitive and easy to understand; especially the Air 10S. It is pricier, but you can get used equipment sometimes for very reasonable amounts. You really only need to buy the trigger for the camera system that you have. All of their flashes will work with any of their triggers, no matter what camera system they were originally intended for. For example, I have Fuji and Canon i60a flashes, and Fuji, 4/3, and Sony Di700a flashes. They all work with the same trigger. The last two Sony Di700a flashes that I bought cost $60 each, in like new condition. The difference between the power output of the i60a and the Di700a flash is only a third of a stop.
If you use something like a FlashQ trigger on your camera, you don't even need a camera brand dedicated Nissin trigger. Put any Nissin trigger on the FlashQ receiver, keep it nearby, and control any number of flashes from your position. The FlashQ is not as reliable as my Radiopopper Nano, but it's pretty good.

These are GREAT trainings!! Thanks for these. I do have a question and I'm not sure where to go for support on this. I bought an X2T and I'm able to get it to work in Manual with the TT685IIF (I think it's working), but when I go into the Flash Menu on my xt-4, it's cycling through M, TTL, Off, and Multi on its own. I watch it changing settings and I'm not touching anything. The net effect is that I cannot making any changes to the flash setting in camera. This does NOT occur when my TT685IIF is on the camera. I don't think it's a defective X2T trigger, because I've already returned one back to Amazon and it's happening with the second unit too. Should I not be worried, because I am able to get the unit to work by just using the Flash and X2T menus and not using the menus on the camera. Anyone have insights? TIA!!!

Thanks for another really helpful video Chris.
I have a Godox TT685ii f and a TT350 f which, thanks to you, are now working fine on two separate groups. The little TT350 makes a great fill light.
Incidentally, on my TT685ii, ‘slave’ has been replaced by ‘RX’ (‘receiver’). I understand that there’s a firmware update that makes this change.
I also have TT685ii c which I use with my Canon EOS film cameras. I have this theory that I might be able to fire this with my Fujifilm trigger, on the basis that with the flash being off the camera, it might not care what the trigger is, or what it’s mounted on. All it will see is an instruction to fire. I’m going to try it!
    Keep up the great work.

I bought a speed light for my Fuji cameras not long ago and stayed away from Godox precisely because of the awful UI. I bought a Profit A1X and the Profoto Connect instead. Not w/o issues but the interface is brilliant.

Hello Chris or anyone that can help :) I bought a tt68f IIf and trigger x2tf. However, when I set the flash and the trigger to manual, I am unable to set the camera to manual as well. It still shows TTL. I can toggle between multi and off and TTL only. please help. thanks! I have an X-t3

The x2t transmitter does not allow any fuji camera to enter Manual flash mode. The only options you have are ttl and multi mode. It is a firmware bug of the x2t with fuji cameras. Get a x1t transmitter and you can operate your flashes from the camera in Manual, TTL and multi modes. This big issue is the reason that i don’t recommend the x2t. I drove myself nuts trying to figure this out and after some research, found that the issue is the x2t transmitter itself. Ended up buying the older x1t and after a firmware update on the x1t transmitter, i can change between and use all 3 flash modes in camera with the x1t. Ditch the x2t and get yourself a x1t and update its firmware to latest version. The x2t is still buggy on fuji cameras even with the latest firmware update. Avoid the x2t for now, until godox decides to resolve these issues and bugs with a new firmware.

    Re: Suggested New Vlog Topic
I love your channel and have been watching for a few years now, you have a very good communication style and an ability to simplify what can be complex issues. Ideal as an educator!
I have been shooting Fujifilm for about 8 years now and have an X-T4 and recently bought the H2-S because I do a lot of event (weddings/ parties/ christenings and sports events of my son) and I am still to fully get to grips with the AF functionality for humans. (I don't shoot bikes, animals, birds, trains which seems where the bulk of the FFilm marketing has been aimed)
I am specifically interested in AF functions for people as I struggle to get it to work effectively by just pressing FACE/EYE detect. I wonder if I have my settings wrong somehow? I am not a novice (been a pro for about 10 years) and I used the red label lenses, so wonder what I doing wrong as it doesn't seem to work so well?
If you could put together a video specifically focused on Fujifilm AF for event photographers this would be gratefully appreciated. Nobody seems to have done this yet.
Anyway, keep up the good work!

In previous lessons you showed how to control the flash settings (M or TTL) from the camera menu. When I use the X2T I am no longer able to make those changes from the camera. Can you explain why?

I’ve seen problems with what you describe that seem to be firmware related
You have 3 firmware versions now in play.
Fw version of camera, fw of godox x2T and the firmware of the godox flash ( less important probably)
Try updating controller first, then camera if that didn’t fix problem
Godox firmware updates are an ordeal , hopefully you don’t brick one.
      Good luck

First, this is an excellent series that clearly explains the issues so that the recommended approach is understandable. I own both a Fuji X100V and a Panasonic G9. My question is how would the Fuji Godox work with Panasonic MFT? Clearly TTL would not work, nor could settings be made from camera, but would the flash otherwise fire at the manual setting? Also, if I were to purchase an additional wireless unit--say for Olympic/Panasonic would I achieve improved functionality with the G9-TT350F combination?
