Btw this song was released in 1987. So no auto tune. Try Crime of Passion, Statue of a Fool, or She’s not your baby anymore for more great songs from Ricky.
Thanks for the request Sheila. IMO Ricky has one of the absolute best voices in country music ever. Thanks for the reaction and the laughs guys. Would love some more RVS, he just has a sound like no other.
You’re very welcome. I’ve always loved Ricky’s music. His wife Bettye Shelton has a UA-cam page with some interviews and songs/videos that are really good.
Man, about time you got back to some great music. Ricky Van Shelton's a legend. Hit up Keep it Between The Lines or Rockin' Years (Definitely Rockin' Years) for some stuff that's not woe is me. He sings the shit out of Rockin' Years.
You will never find a bad Ricky Van Shelton song..All his songs are great..I'll Leave This World Loving You is a favorite of mine..Crime Of Passion is also one I think you would enjoy..Would appreciate if you did a few more reactions to his music..His music brings back a lot of memories.
So glad you guys have now heard RVS! The man can most definitely sing, and his music has been such a huge part of my life since I was little. "Statue Of A Fool" would be my next recommendation for more excellent vocals from him. But the more upbeat "I've Cried My Last Tear For You" has the kind of lyrical theme you guys prefer, I believe. And as someone else said, I also think you both would enjoy "Wild Man," which shows his rockin' side. Also, 1991's "Keep It Between The Lines" is another great ballad with different subject matter. I just can't recommend enough of his music! This particular song came out in 1987, and he, along with Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Kathy Mattea, The Judds, Holly Dunn, Highway 101, etc. were part of the second wave of "new traditionalists" in the mid-late 80s that were bringing country music back to a more old school, back to basics sound. Earlier in the 80s and late 70s, country had been greatly influenced by pop/crossover music heavy on strings and synthesizers, with very little fiddle or steel guitar to be heard. Artists like George Strait, Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire and John Anderson were part of the first wave of new traditionalists to start bringing the older sounds of country back in the early 80s.
The thing I love about this channel is we could go does on end throwing out damn good country music to listen too and a lot of the older stuff when I hear it(50,60,70,80 and 90’s) just brings me back to driving down country roads with the windows down and music blasting. Or even with the older stuff, back on Sundays when they did old time classic country music to wind your Sunday down.
Love Ricky Van, and this is my favorite of his songs. I do not notice that anyone mentioned "And I Meant Every Word He Said", which was also a great song.
You just discovered one of the true country music greats. I've always loved his voice. "I'll Leave This World Loving You" is one I have to suggest. Also: "Keep It Between The Lines" "Life Turned Her That Way" "Statue Of A Fool" I'll likely catch some hell for this comment but if the bribe was from Joe Biden (not that he knows anything about bribes and yes that is sarcasm because come on...and I'm a Democrat saying that!) the good news is you will get another and another and another because he won't remember sending them. If Hunter sends a package...I would toss it. I just want to thank you guys for doing such a great job. I always get a laugh and I needed it today.
Absolutely great... I was just listening to Ricky Van Shelton yesterday thinking that would be a great bribe because they haven't reacted to him. I love Ricky Van Shelton, Great choice somebody! His song Wild Man would probably be a good fit for Keith and Dustin. However, Somebody Lied and Statue of a Fool shows off Ricky's voice, in my opinion.
It would take about 4 hrs to get to that distillery, it is South east of Columbus, Ga and South of Atlanta, and it takes about 2 and a half hours from that race track to Atlanta, depending on traffic fyi
Every time I hear this one, I'm like, "Oh! Oh! I know who lied! He's lying right now!" I love Ricky Van Shelton. Try "Backroads", "Crime of Passion", "Keep it Between the Lines", "I've Cried My Last Tear For You", and his duet with Dolly Parton, "Rockin' Years".
Again I wasn’t trying to be anonymous. And I am definitely not Joe Biden. Lol. Glad this got out of UA-cam copyright hell. IMO Ricky has one of the best voices in country music.
Finally some great older country! 👍 LOL I was in the Army stationed in Germany when this was cooking! The new crap don’t get it in any way, form or fashion in my opinion. Continue with the late 80’s and 90’s Country. Best music to ever be!!
I don’t think Ricky Van Shelton had a bad song, he has a wide range of songs and I bet you will find some that you like. By the way Somebody Lied was a number 1 song in 1987
So I’m in Northeast Ga but it is 4 hours South West away from me. Might be time to take a road trip . Ive been on a mission to go hiking every weekend to see waterfalls all over the south east . I’ll have to look and see if there are any waterfalls in Americus as well.
Somebody may have already told ya'll this but Somebody Lied was written by Joe Chambers and Larry Jenkins and first released by Conway Twitty in 1985 Sheltons version was released in 1987 and made it to number 1 on the 1987 hot country charts in the US.
For as much as y’all enjoy some honky-tonk, It’s surprises me to all get out that y’all haven’t made your way to The Kentucky Headhunters “ Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine” or even Confederate Railroad “She took it like a man”.
'Life turned her that way' & 'I'll leave this world loving you' are mellow like this, but for a fun one, check out 'Wild man'. Very fun! Love me some Ricky Van Shelton. Between 1986 & 2006, he had 10 number one hits & 20 singles on the Billboards top country hit list.
Hi Dustin & Keith, I'm the Amelasone. Been a fan since I first ran across your site. I did send a bribe of Blanton's single barrel and you received it on 9/07/23 at 10:04 am. I didn't realize you'd already done a review of it when I sent it, sorry. I had also not given you a song choice. You'd already done a review of Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down" which I saw a few days ago. I could also answer a few of your questions about that "Sad" song, and where his mind was in those early years and until his dying day. Most of his fans can also tell you, he studied Hank's style and ways of writing lyrics. He also lived his songs, giving them that extra dose of sadness that Johnny's version didn't always have. It's in the emotion your voice and manner carry. Johnny had also lived some sad times, but Kris wrote about most of his like Hank did! Enough of that for now, I'm sending you another bribe today hoping you'll do another of Kris song. There's many to choose from guys, so take your pick. I'd almost defy you to find a bad one Keith! Listen to what and how he puts the lyrics together. So few words, and so much emotion. You guys do a great job and are giving an old alky some lessons on Bourbon and reasons for drinking, besides getting drunk. I needed to stop drinking for a buzz years ago. I had to stop the Lucky Strikes to stop the Jack, he wasn't a gentleman then. He made the coke easier. I should have drunk Pepsi instead, way less expensive. 1980 and counting, still miss them and no I'm not afraid of hangovers or burnt carpets! I just don't trust me. Hail, hail rock'en roll. Love that Keith too! Yes, Jelly Roll impressed me too Keith, Careful of abusing the elder's Dustin, they can & do, learn the fine art of "Oh did I do that". The Amelas One
Keith I know y’all have checked out Keith urban stupid boy but the way you like guitar y’all should check it out live. He does a guitar solo that I think you would enjoy.

His song Wild Man would probably be a good fit for Keith and Dustin. However, Somebody Lied and Statue of a Fool shows off Ricky's voice, in my opinion.
RVS has one of the greatest voices in country music history. He'd be even more of an icon if he wasn't such a sorry human. Exceptional talent!
It would take about 4 hrs to get to that distillery, it is South east of Columbus, Ga and South of Atlanta, and it takes about 2 and a half hours from that race track to Atlanta, depending on traffic fyi
He does have a great voice. He is from a tiny place called Grit, Va.
It worries me when I don’t see videos for weeks! I hope you guys are out having fun!!!

Hi, just checking in on y’all to make sure y’all are ok. 🤍
My favorite random RVS fact is Van Shelton is not his last name. His middle name is Van. 😮
Great video, I wonder if the mirror you're thinking of is from Harry Potter. Just what popped into my head when you were talking about it.
You were looking for a Martina Carrie song. They do a version of Independence Day together. Just Google it you'll find it on youtube
Nope it’s an old song. Came out in 87 or 88 I think. He has an amazing voice. Sadly underrated.
Y’all still here? Just checking
Came here to ask the same!
