At 6.05, Lovely Stuff indeed. Definitely felt nostalgia for Harold Budd listening to this.It is so surprising and inspirational to hear that this is what can be done with Modular. Excellent video series on the Disting EX, I think I will have to invest in this module.
As usual Os, you’re kind of making my wishes come true... I’ve dreamt about having a whole piano in my modular rig, now I finally can, thanks to you. Can’t wait to get my hands on this 🙂
I’m having a problem here, when i load for example a piano it recognises it as a drum set and not a fully mapped sound, the 6 inputs are as 6 gates not 3 cv & gates so i just get 1 note from the sound?
Hi Oz - picked up a Sweet Sixteen module that controls the various parameters on the Disting Ex via i2c - would be really cool if you moved a slider on the S16 and the UI on the SD Multisample would jump to that screen automatically to give you visual feedback
Hi there. I'm just wondering, does it automatically quantise the CV input to the nearest note value and than playback the sample unchained. For example, if I use a random CV generator would it then only play the nearest note in the chromatic scale or does the full range of CV affect pitch? Many thanks
By default it doesn't quantise it, but if you engage Chord mode it does. A chord shape of 'none' and a scale of 'chromatic' essentially quantises the pitch to the nearest semitone.
Is it possible for example to load multiple instruments/sample folders to be playing at the same time? For instance soft piano on the first 4 voices and strings on the other 4 as chords?
I seem to be getting ‚noise‘ (almost like a dirty pots sound) on the trigger with the LABS soft piano in particular but with most gates there is audible noise at start or end. I’ve tried offset and attenuation but am clearly doing something wrong. Any ideas?
@@ExpertSleepersLtd - Thanks for getting back to me! im triggering from Pams New Workout. And - no, I haven’t run through the tests menu. I‘ll give that a go, although I expect it’s something I’m doing wrong: it generally is:)
In chord mode.I can select a chord to be triggerd by one of the gates ,but can i choose a different chord in the menu to be triggered by one of the other gates?
Dumb question - when I scroll through the sample folders, I'm trying to read them before they load but each folder starts to load mere heartbeats after I've scrolled to them, so I don't have time to read the name of the folder I'm loading beforehand Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to scroll through the names of sample folders without them auto-loading almost immediately when I land on them? (since loading a sample folder can be fairly time-consuming - e.g. if I accidentally pause for even a moment on a LABS multisample folder, I get to watch the Disting slowly load five round robin versions of every sampled pitch, one-by-one, before I can move on)
Probably. Any sample library where you can access the actual samples (i.e. if they're not in some protected format) could be easily converted to work on the disting. See also ua-cam.com/video/2-3KnbhenQw/v-deo.html for extracting samples from SoundFonts.
How do you name the files, when you want to put your own multisamples on the SD card? Can't get it to work correctly. I've named them C1, C#1, D1 etc. But the notes don't trigger in the right places.
How many samples can you have for the velocity switch per output? So for a single gate, if I put that through a VCA how many different samples can you set for a single output?
@@ExpertSleepersLtd Is this the same for trigger mode when using it to trigger 6 drum samples? can you have the trigger velocity select a different drum sample per output?
I’ve also got the disting today and am suffering from this problem 7 months after some of these comments. It’s clipping on the soft piano setting. I would have thought having just bought it new, it should have the latest firmware. Any help would be massively appreciated
It won't have the latest firmware, which was released only recently. Update it before you do anything else. Then if you still have trouble, more details of how you're driving it would help. Ideally post on the forum rather than here.
couple questions - is there a technical reason for the limit of 99 folders for the SD card? - will it possible to extend this in the future (seems like a so much unused space on the card) Second question, If you have a midi breakout connected to the Disting Ex and you get another Disting Ex, is there a way that the midibreakout can pass to both Disting Ex's? either by IC2 or other connection? Already have one... thinking about getting another.
The 100 folders is a hangover from the disting mk4. Each of those could happily be a gigabyte which wouldn't waste much space on a 32GB card! There's a soft thru setting for MIDI so you can daisy chain them.
@@ExpertSleepersLtd I guess I should have stated my issue where I came to the question about the folders. Some .sf2 files have multiple instruments packed into them like a full orchestra. I have came across many like on the site polyphone-soundfonts.com/ but my case example was from sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/ where there was a harps-strings-orchestra which was 550mb which included bassoon, flutes, violin, other strings(so the folder size did not matter) However what I found when I used the sf2_to_dex.py script to convert into wavs into folder and then attempted to play on the DEX, was that it would only play one instrument. Is there some kind of pan/scan across samples setting on the DEX? to allow to use all instruments in an original .sf2 to be used - like a scroll across the wav samples? Or am I misunderstanding the .sf2 standard? My only solution was to run the script to convert to wavs, then copy and paste the instruments the script converted instruments into their own folders and then load them to the DEX as individual folders to be able to play each instrument. Other than that, I don't believe there is a way to select only one folder/drill-down into a folder to use all the samples available currently - hence why I ran into the folder limit issue. I believe there are about 75 folders of samples provided which I don't want to take off the card - especially the LABS folders and was intending on getting more LABS multisamples - so I was wondering if there was another solution? - my only thought was to increase the folder limit...
@@ExpertSleepersLtd Could the folder limit of 99 be increased in the next firmware for the dex specifically for the multisample on the dex without making any drastic changes in the firmware? I realize it is a left-over of the mk4. However it would be really really really appreciated.

Yes, same here and as far as comments on muffwiggler`s forum go, this is common problem. There was a bounch of firmware updates and still this issue remains out of scope. Had another issue - my disting EX did not work after purchasing & using it for 3 weeks. expert sleepers were really helpful in trying to solve it, however it seemed to be a hardware issue.
