@@lukehrm One search showed the palette case is 45.5mm deep (but I know there are a few). The Disting EX is 50mm deep. It fits in my Intellijel 7U just fine..but the 7U performance case isn't considered a Palette case. To be clear---the EX is DEEP.
That's great---if you do the Arbhar thing---PLEASE let me know. I'd love to see that happen. I only record into my Arbhar. Using the USB on the back and taking the module in and out is just something I'm not going to do
Thank you so much for making this video. I have Hermod for MIDI in and control, but I also have the MIDI In module from intellijel that I wasn't using, until now. This is an excellent properly explained tutorial.
I've got a few modules daisy changed this way, it works nicely It's also worth connecting The Disting to the out or thru of the case so you can run some of the algorithms that generate midi out if wanted, or pass through into another device
Ya, in this video I show how to connect the out as well as the in. The 'through' on the case isn't possible to connect to the pin-out on the Disting ex, because there's only in and out. If you were chaining two Distings together, you can do midi-through to the next one.
I obviously didn't watch it properly and missed the out bit! I've got mine connected for thru, as that's what I usually use it for, with a MK4 separatly connected to out at the moment. The advantage of being able to use the jumper cables is it makes the case nice and flexible!
@@theboywhochosethesea LOL--all good. Ya, this module is like flexibility DEFINED, huh? Speaking of the outs, I'm glad to have the out wired for multi-sample recording that can happen with the Disting and external sources like polysynths, etc. Midi out to other device, and the Disting pings it to send back audio for a multi-sample set. Too good.
Incredible, detailed walkthrough at a pace even I could follow. I managed to do this on my 7u performance case. I'm wondering if you have tried this on the 104 pallet case? I can't even see the pins tucked under the 1u area. It's hard to see anything. Do you know if it's possible?
This just connects the midi jacks. The USB are the bottom 6 pins in the diagram, but having this go to the Disting EX wouldn't do anything as you need a USB midi converter (like what the intellijel 1U midi modules do, the direct pins are just the midi standard wires it doesn't do any logic -- like interpreting it as midi!). I followed this guide and also used the remaining pins to keep the usb midi going to a 1U module!
@@JohnoWells And thanks again for this information ... was losing my mind to try to figure out the orientation! Also also, with the USB you are wiring power (I am not an electronics guys so maybe not enough ...) so be careful! The DIN midi is nice as it isn't powered
Just have to say Thank You. Love the interline l case, but only use MIDI every so often that wasting the space for the midi in just hurts. Dusting does the job but can be other things when not using MIDI…. Aka most of the time. Horay!
Thanks for making this. Just noting, for completeness, that Expert Sleepers also offer a 2HP TRS MIDI breakout now.
Ah, thanks for the update, Os--I've added a link to that in the description! Thank you as always, for your innovations. Game changer stuff, my man.
@@JohnoWells this does not work with the Palette case, right?

So can I use this 2HP TRS MIDI module to obtain midi from the 7u inlets?
@@jorgefpramos Yes, but I'm not sure what you'd gain by that, other than TRS-DIN conversion.
This was amazingly helpful! Thank you!
THANK YOU! I'm going to do this, and also figure out how to connect the USB flash drive on Arbhar to the USB port on the Intellijel case.

Anyone know if this could work Nifty Case by Cre8audio?!
I'm so sorry, I have not used that case. Let us know if you try it out.
very handy vid :), thnx. Do you know if it is possible to do a similar trick for Ornaments & Crime?
Ah, I wish I could give you a good answer.
I'd guess yes, but I'm sorry---I'd have no clue how to do it.
No worries, I could manage to wire O-C to USB port. Works like a charm. btw, Power Line is not needed :) @@JohnoWells
