- Part 1 of 3 truck challenge videos. In this first video Top Gear's very own 'Rig Stig' - The Stig's lorry driving cousin - shows the the Top Gear boys how to do a power slide in a long haul truck. They are then asked to drive valuables to a race circuit. Cue many broken things.

Scale refers to the size of ones ability to do things. In this case, a brain surguon deals with significantly smaller things.

"Rig Stig" has been doing that in lorries on tracks for decades....
The only lesson I ever took from this episode was to let the lorry go every time. I drive professionally and I always let the lorry go first in every circumstance.

Yeah this and seeing safety videos of big rigs crashing when cars get too close are why I give a lot of space between me and a big truck

Aidan Sweeney no, the US at the Atlantic coast is hot as hell: NYC was hot as hell and the subway even worse. Columbia (SC) was hot AND humid. I diededed (well atleast it was a shock) when I got off the plane. Some part of my shoes may still be on the deck of the aircraft carrier at Patriots point in Charleston.

I try to, James. I try to. In traffic jams lorries are also the best thing to drive behind since they try to maintain a constant speed instead of filling the gaps.

5:44 -- This is why you always do a "tug test" before you try pulling away. And you also check the pin to make sure it's all the way in. And that's not a euphemism; you actually need to make sure the latch pin is fully engaged. Otherwise, 5:44 is what happens.
Not to mention if there's a fault with the air supply.

Also don't be afraid to back in with force. If it feels and sounds like you backed into a wall when hitching a trailer it's (most likely) in. The noise you hear should be the jaws locking around the shank of the kingpin

Clarkson apologized many ti9mes for his actions and he finally came and spoke out about what actually happened. he said his doctor told him he most likely had cancer when they found a lump on his tongue and that he had to go in immediately but he said no top gear comes first and when after a long day on set having had nothing at all that day, his mother dying recently and his second marriage falling apart he snapped when they could not even give him hot food. i am not excusing what he did but there are 2 sides to every story
he beat up a producer cos he didnt get his steak.
Actually the producer was an ass hole before the indecent. Many employees from Top Gear's film crew and writing crew complained about him saying he was rude and a bit of a dick. The punch wasn't just over a lunch it was built up over season after season disagreement. And it wasn't just one lunch the producer was holding back the entire crews lunch. Producer could have very well deserved it.
***** Well how about the fact he sued the BBC for "racial discrimination"??? He no longer even works there and is trying to get money from a company, AND Clarkson.

I told my Dad about their struggles with the amount of gears they had to go through and he cracked up laughing because he was a truck driver for years and can vouch that on occasion it can be nightmare.

Possibly the best (and briefest) deadpan ever done by the Hamster.
The guy w/ the car in the semi-trailer might have to hit all the gears, but the other 2 are empty and light enough to skip some gears. You can start in 2nd, go to 4th, etc. It really depends on the engine & tranny set-up. I don't think they were double clutching either, it helps with the changes. After you get some experience you learn to shift without the clutch. This episode is good because it shows that heavy trucks require a variety of skills not used or needed by the average driver.

We have to talk about the air that lotus got, that was insane.
Jeremy's Renault that looks like a D-day bunker reminds me of 'Duel'.
Love the hookups. It REALLY helps to try to pull out after you hear the click of the fifth wheel pin. If the tractor moves and the trailer does not you are not hooked up. And heck yes I hate when cars pass me while I am getting onto the freeway. And then drive slower than I will be going as soon as I get up to speed.
That happens with my driving my Ford Transit box van, from behind it looks like a full size lorry. Car pass me and then slow down right after and then proceeds to drive 20km/h under the limit rest of the day... But at least I do not have a speed limiter so it is not that hard to drive past them.
