The BEST and most underrated 5.3LS is the *05-06 LH6*. It's THE aluminum block gen 3/4 in-betweener. It came w a gen 3 24x reluctor wheel for easy wiring, but also got the much beefier gen 4 rods and high volume oil pump. LS swap the world.
Factory oil pumps are already made by melling, and also, dont widdle with high pressure oil pumps, go with high volume pumps. Pumps pump volume, not pressure. Pressure is resistance to the volume being pumped.
I'm not sure how, but my dad managed to buy a l33 for only 200 bucks, and the same goes for his s10. Now all together he's built a 500whp 11- second truck for around 3k,it's ridiculous.
I can attest they are indestructible in street form no coolant, (over heated so many times but never blew up before I fixed the radiator) never changed the oil, (mainly because it changed itself thanks due to an oil leak) it just kept going, heck never used an air filter why bother the carbon build up was catching most of the dirt anyway. The TRX that T-boned me was the only reason the 2001 POS Suburban was put out to pasture finally. Engine still runs fine trying to clean it up, and put in another one this time it might get taken care of better as that year Suburban is hitting classic status.
In my opinion the iton block is the go to for drag racing and big power, but if you want an autocross or drift car i would go alumi block. You dont need as much power and they are a lot lighter.
Really no reason not to run aluminum on these engines. They are plenty strong enough, and with some nicer aftermarket main caps, they are WAAAY better and stronger than factory with increased oil flow within the bottom end.
@@sethh8892 I agree but for the money you can take a 460 bbf and twin turbo it and run over 1000hp. It just depends on what kind of power band you want and how much you wanna spend. At the end of the day that big block is still fighting 2jz and vr38.

You cannot simply just mildly boost an engine. You must feed it all the boost, split your block in half and send pistons high enough to shoot down a weather balloon. Be a man.

@Theblackcarguru you should look into the jeep 4.0L inline 6 and the jeep xj platform with its capability to be highly customizable such as it being able to fit a big block easily ect plus many in xj fandoms agree that the 4.0L is one of if not the most long lasting engines and is just "bullet proof" overall -_(:/)_-
I agree with you one those old Jeep engines, but their forte was always endurance and reliability. Even for 20 years ago, it was always weak. Come to think of it, most 4.0 6 cylinder engines have always come out with laughable HP numbers, even those in regular cars. I wonder why that is. 🤔. Just me thinking out loud.

Didn't think about those, guess it beats throwing in a gas chugging Apache in it and calling it a day right? That would be interesting, an oversized I6 with decent power but better to torque; like diesel, but gas. At the end of the day, a jeep was made for the off-road.

I would honestly cam it, get those aftermarket pistons and rods (as well as an exhaust system, supercharge it, then throw on a big intake and a strut bar. How much power you think I could make tuned on 93 octane?

Welp here I am a LS GM fan but let’s bring it back down to earth here guys the when GM decided to put AFM/DOD on the Gen. 4 motors that really created some issues with the LS power plant I’m currently working out how I plan to do the AFM DOD delete on my Gen. 4 it doesn’t seem to be that big a deal my issue is finding person to tune the AFM DOD out of the computer if I decide to go with a stage 1 cam apparently if a guy just puts a stock cam back in the motor you can just get a OBD box idk I’m still trying to figure that out as far as gen. 5 motors not much in the way of affordable after market support I’m sure as time goes on that will change but even still my research has shown the gem. 5 motors are the worst with the AFM DOD destroying the motor reports of motors in the Gen. 5 category smoking them selfs after 30000 miles it’s so bad GM is being sued over it idk after all the reliable miles from my gen. 3 to go out find a nice gen. 4 and learn about how bad the AFM DOD really is it just put a bad taste in my mouth all together this is with me doing the full delete I’m looking at probably 1800 bucks hopefully

I have the lm7 in my 04 stepside Silverado. Oh boy I can't wait till I mildly boost it! I'll be happy at 8-10psi
I highly recommend prochargers, and superchargers, UNLESS you wanna be able to turn down the boost without pulling a pulley.

Heads and cam swap, leave the internals alone, decent sized turbo, injectors. Stock internals will hold 800 reliably, you can make 550 with the stock fuel system but after that it’ll need a better fuel pump and lines.
If you need a good cam thats good for both fun and everyday driving grab you a trucknorris cam. Worth every penny.
And put a stage 2 4l60 behind it they go for like $1500 to $2500 and you can keep it 4x4 😎
I'd go 4l80 if you're going to swap out the transmission. Especially if you're going to make more power.
