    I just picked up the Andre Dawson psa 8.5 with an auto 10 grade. 8.5 is a bit unique for psa so I'm glad to have it that way.

      Nice! I'm missing some and most of the ones I have are graded less than an 8.

    Good stuff. Yes, I am surprised Sutter wasn't on the list. The 77's are my least favorite of the 1970's series, possible my least favorite of any Topps set all-time.

      Thanks Russel. I think the Sutter might have made the top 10 in a higher grade. But in a PSA 8 I think it only goes for around $50. And I agree, the 77 set is one of my least favorite Topps sets.

    They should have put Munson in the HoF when he passed. His stats are great for a 10 year career, even in comparison to some who have made it recently.

      I agree that he should be in the Hall of Fame. Hopefully someday he will.

    I had a dozen of each of these. I sold everything in the early 90s. I guess I sold too soon

      Yes, especially if they were in high grade. However, ungraded cards not in Mint condition do not sell for even close to what high-graded copies sell for.

    If you have a 1977 set put together by purchasing an unopened case of cards and putting them in order, can you assume that the vast majority of the cards in the set would rate PSA 8?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  4 місяці тому

      Not necessarily. Just because a card comes fresh from a pack doesn’t mean they are in great condition. There could be some corner wear from being in the pack and cards could be very off-center or miss-cut. Printing technology and quality control wasn’t the best back then. Plus you could have some cards damaged from the gum or wax from the back of the pack. I’m sure a good number of the cards would grade a PSA 8 or higher. But there could be more than you think that would grade less.

      @@WadeBoggsFan Thank you for responding. My dilemma is I have a bunch of cards that are worth getting PSA graded for resale IF they would grade PSA 8 or higher. But if they come back a 7 or less, the money I paid to have them graded is more than the value of the card. I'm sure this is a common dilemma for many sellers. Ultimately, I think I have to examine each card closely and take my chances on which are worth getting graded.

      Yes, that's the smart move. Unless a card is super sharp, your best bet would be to just look at the big-name players and rookies and see if any of them are worth grading. For the rest, you might only make out if they would grade a 9 or 10. But for the 77 set, I don't think there are a lot of 10s that have been graded.

    Thanks for sharing, John. Surprised that the Sutter rookie didn't make the list, myself & that the Dawson/Murphy rookies ranked little higher. Rose's popularity is still evident amongst collectors, also.

      @WadeBoggsFan  11 місяців тому

      Thanks Kevin. I think the Sutter might have ranked in the top 10 in a higher grade than an 8. And Rose is extremely popular in the hobby. I wouldn't be surprised if all his vintage cards end up on my future top 10 lists.

    Do you happen to know where Yaz ranked? I think I need a graded copy since it's my favorite card of all time.

      He was around #18 on the list. His 77 in a PSA 8 would run you around $60.

      Thanks Stephen. I'm not overly surprised. While a hall of famer, he doesn't seem to have the hobby love as other players.

    Why Wade Boggs?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  11 місяців тому

      Why is my channel name Wade Boggs Fan? In addition to collecting vintage baseball cards, I've been a super collector of Wade Boggs cards and memorabilia for about 25 years. Why did I pick Boggs to collect? That's a much longer story. 😃

    • @guywilliams6569

      @WadeBoggsFan as an avid collector myself, I never understand why/how people collect ONE guy? I collect for value and I don't limit myself because I "like or don't like" one of these STRANGERS who couldn't care less about ME.. lol... when its big money guys like LBJ or the Mick, it makes a BIT more sense to me, but when it's semi popular guys like Boggs or Ripken (in that order), I don't get it.. ???

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  11 місяців тому

      Well, not every collector enjoys the hobby because of the value of the cards. I don't really worry or care that much about what my cards are worth once I purchase them as I have no intention of selling them. And why Boggs and Ripken might be considered strangers or semi-popular guys to you (which is fine), I've had the chance to meet Boggs personally 10 times, he follows me on Twitter and calls me one of his biggest fans/collectors (he even sent me a Christmas card last year). He's a great guy so it makes collecting his cards and memorabilia even more special for me. And I've made some good friends in the hobby who also super collect Boggs (we're affectionally known as The Boggs Trust). 😃

      @WadeBoggsFan that's weird... lol.. it's not "to me", they aren't big "stars", that's a fact and hobby wise, they are mid tier. You didn't really give a REASON why this guy is your "obsession" over him... you basically said, "I'm a fan of his BECAUSE I'm a fan of his", not that he did or does something you admire, like how he treats people or charity work he does or something like that. You basically sound like a little girl who has a crush on a band she's seen, except THEY can admit WHY they like a certain member or whatever. I guarantee you don't just Pay whatever asking proce is on "your guys" stuff, so pretending "value doesn't matter" is silly and a lie, but more importantly, why spend money on something that HAS VALUE and a ROI, and you Don't MAXIMIZE the potential on the return? Like I said, I just don't get it and probably never will... lol... Wade Boggs...

      The two main reasons why I decided to collect Boggs are that he played for the Red Sox, a team that I followed as a kid because my Mom was from Massachusetts, and that he hit for a high average. I was always more impressed with a player who could hit for a high average rather than just bash home runs. Plus at the time I already had a good number of his cards. Later on, after meeting him I found him to be a great guy who really appreciates his fans, so that just solidified my interest in collecting his cards and memorabilia. As for my card's values, I always try to pay as little as possible for them. It's not to ensure a good ROI, but because I have a limited hobby budget. I have never purchased a card with the thought of what that card might be worth in the future. I buy a card because I like the card and want it in my collection. I understand that's not how everyone looks at sports cards, especially today, but that's how I enjoy the hobby - for the love of the cards, not the love of the value or ROI.
