- On this episode of “The Fallen State TV,” Bamby Salcedo, President and CEO of the Trans Latina Coalition discusses how he became a "trans woman," and explains views on gender identity, God, illegal immigration, Donald Trump, White privilege and much more. Raised by a "strong" single mother, Salcedo says he felt empty, confused and had resentment toward his parents. At eight years old he began using drugs. He says he recognized early on that what he felt on the inside didn't match how he looked on the outside and transitioned to a "trans woman" at 19.

I love Jesse's interview style. He starts with simple questions to warm up the guest and them heads in with mild questions to get them uncomfortable and then ends with the hard hitting questions to expose the holes within the guest's views. This is when the guests begin to get agitated and some might even get angry. I love this guy.

Henry yeah that's what I've kind of done, I see my identity as being a "genderless woman" because I see myself in other women but I know I'm not completely like them anatomically which I assume is what trans people feel like...I never used to care for trans issues until in my teen years I started being stopped and questioned for using both men and women's restrooms and it seriously felt like I was a freak...that's what basically lead me to making friends with transgenders who had the complete same experience...so yeah I just feel like gender is more complex than the physical body and although I don't "feel" like a woman, I kinda just am regardless of my body and I don't know how to explain it

It seems to me that every transgender person I’ve ever met has had major drug and abandonment issues from young ages. It’s very sad that they are so dissatisfied with who they were born that they have to completely identify themselves as someone else. My heart really goes out to them because they are telling themselves a lie; that they are normal. It’s not normal! I’m sorry. I still love them as humans but they have problems, and there are specific reasons why they are confused. That’s why children are supposed to have mothers AND fathers. Society should also stop making gender a fashion trend and make children question their gender before they’re ready to have sex education.

Why couldn't he/she answer the question? I know what it felt like to be a little girl...I liked boys, I loved barbies and dolls and was more interested in art and writing than playing with trucks in the dirt. But I was also a Tom boy when I was younger and loved riding horses, riding my bike and playing with my guy friends. How could he/she not talk about what it felt like as a child?

MENTALLY DIFFERENT
genitalia is not a social construct. That term is thrown around way too loosely. It is biology,and genetics. Because even if you remove all of the external genitalia,you're still male or female. Even if you remove internal sex organs, you're body is still genetically and biologically male or female. your chromosomes determine that and there's no getting away from that. That's why a person transitioning will always need to take drugs in order to suppress the male or female hormones that your body makes naturally, out of your control. It would be nice of there was less of this emotional speech and now logical discussion. I'm really curious too as to what causes a person to make this change in life.

I don't understand the interview-y. He/She states that characteristics assigned to genders are a social construct. Which in an implicit kind of way implies that He/She doesn't believe these characterizations to be true (i.e. the interview-y doesn't believe that boys should necessarily play with toy trucks and girls should play with dolls). Besides the fact that studies show that this is an innate thing not necessarily caused by society, isn't not believing in gender roles a contradiction to his transexuality? In other words, if he truly believes that there is no innate desires of children to act a certain way or have a certain interest what would make him identify as a woman? Couldn't it be that he is a man who likes wearing dresses and putting on make-up? Furthermore, the fact that he identifies as a woman signifies implicitly that women share some sort of mindset (that he mysteriously acquired despite not having any womanly experiences such as menstruation, pregnancy, etc.)
The ideology that this person has expressed seems completely contradictory with who they are as a person. Certainly, these contradictory beliefs cause a subtle, yet persistent, discomfort as all cognitive dissonance does. Perhaps this is related to the typically poor mental state of transpeople, as I suspect all transpeople hold similar if not identical views. Whether it is a symptom or the cause is what psychologists should look into. Unfortunately, the issue seems to be untouchable from a clinical point of view.
I thought it was funny when Jesse said it looked like he'd had surgery...And he/she was like, "well that's your opinion," Ummm...you have BREAST IMPLANTS we can clearly see popping out of your dress! And why not talk about it?
On the one hand, he claims, adamantly, that gender is "constructed" - then, he reveals that he felt like a girl, as if that gender is somehow, suddenly, inborn. In other words, her "boyness" was constructed, but her "girlness' is inborn. Hmmmmm....But wait - what's the use in exchanging 1 "constructed" lifestyle for another? He says "he wanted to be himself" - but what does that mean? Having breasts and other body parts do not become "him". Jesse, as usual, traps this person in his own self-contradictions.

After watching so many of your videos I notice that I really like your intro, I never get tired of it and it’s the perfect length. You have great videos and I agree with you 99% of the time . Cheers!

She so gracefully takes this interview in stride. Interviewers should educate themselves a bit more before tackling issues they aren't familiar with. Several basic misunderstandings are evident simply from the phrasing and terminology he uses. With any marginalized group folks should take more responsibility when using their platform to discuss nuanced topics. There are other Catholics trying to have genuine dialog around inclusivity with the trans community. Something I think Jesus would be more concerned with rather than questioning and ostracizing folks. Love and solidarity Bamby.
