I’m a Destiny player first and foremost. I know I won’t play it but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. It’s developed by NetEase and I’m pretty sure the only thing Bungie may have a part in is story but not a heavy hand. It’s Bungie characters that are licensed and I don’t know how that works monetarily (I.e. if netease has to pay a certain amount per year or per month or just once) but either way it doesn’t affect my main Destiny experience. It’s non-canon side story that may or may not bring mobile game players to base Destiny (unlikely but possible). Either way it doesn’t affect me negatively and it *might* affect me positively.

He's not. He completely ignores the monetization model from Net Ease in Once Human, it's free but you can choose to pay for skins packs. They're killing it with this strategy and already said they will keep it for the mobile version and future games because it keeps people engaged and makes them dive deeper into the game without pay wall. Once they are engaged properly they happily pay for nice skins, especially those where you can decorate your self built base, which will be a feature in this one.
No one is confused, they just don't agree with that sentiment. It's not meant to attract anyone to Destiny 2, it's meant to create its own little thing and make them as much money as possible off the IP.

As a hardcore d2 and gacha addict let me highlight the spending D2: 140 cad per year for ultimate edition Gacha games have new banners every 3 weeks and most of the time, new characters every 6 weeks. So every 3 weeks you can potentially spend 140 cad for 50 pulls and it takes 80 pulls for most of the 5 star character unless you get lucky. So 280 cad for one character and weapon banner is a different banner with separate pity. TLDR: I have spent 500 cad in d2 over 8 years and 17K in year and half in gacha games (I play 4 different gacha games help me pls)

But then you realize the cool new thing, and don't have enough because you use all your currency on the first thing... That's how they get you comfortable with pulling and eventually herding you over to the shop to maybe spend money. If you play these games DO NOT spend any money on them. They're a time inventment and eventually you'll obtain what you want for a good account. But you NEED to have patience and restraint so you don't spiral.

9:01 you mean The First Descendant? You don't pay for characters in that game. You *can*, or you can unlock them with little effort, but they're still severely weak until *you* put the effort into them, with mods, reactors, catalysts, etc.
And I think that is the route this is going. Skins work better for this over the gatcha elements and they may even do it by slot. Destiny fashion has always been the true endgame. Diablo Immortal and Marvel Rivals aren’t gatcha games and those are also Netease.
Imagine they make a PC port to DR and it turns out way more engaging that D2 because they also dont re-use the same model 100 times for each frame and they actually make new interesting weapons.
It sounds like Destiny: Rising isn’t set in an alternate timeline (which is generally where a past event was changed and created a new present/future). Instead it sounds like it’s simply set in the past around the time of the Golden Age/Collapse. Instead that sense, the current Vanguard wouldn’t exist and those characters likely won’t even be born for centuries if not longer. It would also make sense that as light bearers have only started appearing, their ranges of abilities would be limited, as would the range of weapons available.
This is to fund their future operations like Blizzard did for Diablo Immortal. Diablo Immortal earned Blizzard TONS of money, and this is the influence for Destiny Rising. They are going to use Destiny Rising's egregious wealth generation to fund the next ideas they have. Do I hate them for it? Eh, business is business.
Bungie actually gets a pretty low take from this. They tried to increase it after they initially let netease buy into the IP but negotiations fell through so this is pretty much all netease
Imagine Bungie closing because of Destiny 2 falloff and Marathon flopping, but NetEase and Destiny Rising survive and continue to pull in like $100 million a month or some shit I would be embarrassed for Bungie, and for the people that choose to spend money playing a mobile game instead of the real thing

I agree 100% with him about touch screen shooters being horrible to control, simply because there's no feedback to you inputs. Thankfully you can just buy a $10 controller attachment that sits your phone above it and it works fantastically. Or if you wanna spend a bit more get something like a Razer Kishi.
A good controller thatll come out some time next year is a sliding attachment to your case called the M-con. It looks very ergonomic and portable which gives it an edge over something bulky like a backbone and is more realistic to take with you when youre out and about.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing the difference because the Google Play Games catalog could definitely use something like Destiny Rising as a shot in the arm. Thing is it usually takes some time to get these versions set up and they don't always happen; which is where the relevance of a preexisting business relationship with Google via Stadia comes in.

When it comes to the pulls, for certain characters or weapons, which I kid you not is probably the one thing I hate about gatchas, is if you are trying to pull for a character or a weapon that if you try your damn hardest to pull for that character or weapon.. they will give you something or someone else you originally weren't trying to pull, and the counter for the guarantee items reset.

Yeah the characters are kind of a joke at this point. Saint, for example, was badass. Why can't he be the capable killing machine he was initially written as? And if you're going to make character more real, deep, or layered, or whatever, make it consistent don't make it change their whole vibe so you can turn them into hopeless gay romantic, or a whimpering old man like they did to Zavala.

I'm a destiny og coming from the rpg side of games not the halo side and I tend to really enjoy some of the better "mobile" games like ZZZ. Rising seems like it'll likely follow that formula. Looking forward to it!
It really depends on how heavy they lean into the Gacha. For I haven't I haven't touched Genshin Impact in a while but I didn't need to pay money to pull some of the best characters in the game such as Zhongli or Raiden Shogun back in the day. As a matter of fact I'm willing to bet that you will need to spend less money on Destiny Rising then you need to do on Destiny 2 just to enjoy the game.

They mentioned rarity as well. I’m guessing “rolling” for weapon types are going to be another layer of loot boxes for the game. Like major loot-boxes for new characters, that can only hold certain archetypes of weapons, then rolling for weapons that are of a random archetype with a random rarity. Making it probably more egregious to get what you want without paying for it. However they might have it tie to loot you can get in-game, though with the same mismatched archetypes of weapons you can’t actually equip without buying the associated hero. I assume it’ll be very low rarities with the higher tiers being connected with loot-boxes.

They release, or update end game focused content and reward you for pulling the new character or having an existing character similar to them, it doesnt make anything impossible but it clearly incentivizes you to get the new thing
Samsung phones can use adapters to connect a mouse and keyboard to essentially turn your phone into a computer, and you can also connect most modern phones to a TV/monitor via either USB-HDMI adapter or WiFi. And you can certainly get keyboard cases for iPad and other tablets, then hook up a mouse separately. Or you could just use any controller that has Bluetooth connection or even USB. Plenty of options out there.
If anyone keeps up with the mobile industry you might already be excited for what SD8 elite chip can do. That thing is used in laptops and now it's going to be in flagships. Can't wait to see what one plus is going to bring and the s25 ultra.

if a gacha game has character shards (you pull and get 3/100 of a 5 star) DO NOT PLAY IT if a gacha does not have pity (get a 5 star every 90 pulls) DO NOT PLAY IT if this is your 1st gacha game DO NOT PLAY IT (if genshin didnt pull you in then it will take another revolutionary game to do it but that will not come from an existing prominent company in the genre) DO give it a try if you played D1 then maybe got left behind with console updates (PS3 to PC i missed rise of iron till warmind D2) IF you want to spend money DO buy 20$ for x amount of currency per day for 30 days or the elite battle pass check value for cash DO go free to play for twice the honeymoon phase (the 1st week or so will be riddled with dopamine fast progress and alot of rewards this will not last. and will cost you money to maintain) play PAST the honeymoon phase to learn if you like the game or you like the funny brain chemicals before investing time or godforbid money accept imperfection, you are NOT going to 36 star that stage you are NOT going to 0 turn kill those enemies or be in top 100 PVP and the sooner you come to terms with that the happier you will be
As a person who works 65+ hours a week. It's hard to get the most out of Destiny. I used to play Destiny on my phone over gamepass until it was taken down (thanks sony). I play a lot of COD mobile to get my gaming fix while at work. if we can get a Destiny that I can play on my phone and it works, I'd be thrilled and I know many would be as well.
I don't understand why we need a new mobile destiny game. I'm running the vespers host on my phone right now using the Xbox app touch screen overlay. However it's definitely easier to use a controller and the Xbox controllers Bluetooth to the phone.
The issue will be when they give D2 incentives in Destiny: Rising. Like having seperate gear and new meta weapons you can unlock in D2 for playing or even paying for in Destiny: Rising.
The Backbone is the way to go for controller attachments, Ive been using Xbox remote play on my phone with the backbone since my daughter was born and it's still a great experience. Just like playing a scaled down Switch (but the Pixel 9 is more powerful lol)

The Backbone controller is pretty good. You can't change sensitivities so it hasn't been good for playing Destiny 2 on Nvidia GeForce, but works well for stuff like MLB The Show. I'm guessing that it would probably work better for something like this that is designed as a mobile game.

9:01 you mean The First Descendant? You don't pay for characters in that game. You *can*, or you can unlock them with little effort, but they're still severely weak until *you* put the effort into them, with mods, reactors, catalysts, etc.
And I think that is the route this is going. Skins work better for this over the gatcha elements and they may even do it by slot. Destiny fashion has always been the true endgame. Diablo Immortal and Marvel Rivals aren’t gatcha games and those are also Netease.
Imagine they make a PC port to DR and it turns out way more engaging that D2 because they also dont re-use the same model 100 times for each frame and they actually make new interesting weapons.
It sounds like Destiny: Rising isn’t set in an alternate timeline (which is generally where a past event was changed and created a new present/future).
Instead it sounds like it’s simply set in the past around the time of the Golden Age/Collapse.
Instead that sense, the current Vanguard wouldn’t exist and those characters likely won’t even be born for centuries if not longer.
It would also make sense that as light bearers have only started appearing, their ranges of abilities would be limited, as would the range of weapons available.

This is to fund their future operations like Blizzard did for Diablo Immortal. Diablo Immortal earned Blizzard TONS of money, and this is the influence for Destiny Rising. They are going to use Destiny Rising's egregious wealth generation to fund the next ideas they have. Do I hate them for it? Eh, business is business.
Bungie actually gets a pretty low take from this. They tried to increase it after they initially let netease buy into the IP but negotiations fell through so this is pretty much all netease

I agree 100% with him about touch screen shooters being horrible to control, simply because there's no feedback to you inputs. Thankfully you can just buy a $10 controller attachment that sits your phone above it and it works fantastically. Or if you wanna spend a bit more get something like a Razer Kishi.

A good controller thatll come out some time next year is a sliding attachment to your case called the M-con. It looks very ergonomic and portable which gives it an edge over something bulky like a backbone and is more realistic to take with you when youre out and about.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing the difference because the Google Play Games catalog could definitely use something like Destiny Rising as a shot in the arm. Thing is it usually takes some time to get these versions set up and they don't always happen; which is where the relevance of a preexisting business relationship with Google via Stadia comes in.

When it comes to the pulls, for certain characters or weapons, which I kid you not is probably the one thing I hate about gatchas, is if you are trying to pull for a character or a weapon that if you try your damn hardest to pull for that character or weapon.. they will give you something or someone else you originally weren't trying to pull, and the counter for the guarantee items reset.
I found it fucking hilarious mtashed gave examples of how bungie would have net ease not to mess with lore but they've destroyed their own lore themselves. Saint, Osiris I'm looking at you 2.
Yeah the characters are kind of a joke at this point. Saint, for example, was badass. Why can't he be the capable killing machine he was initially written as?

I'm a destiny og coming from the rpg side of games not the halo side and I tend to really enjoy some of the better "mobile" games like ZZZ. Rising seems like it'll likely follow that formula. Looking forward to it!

It really depends on how heavy they lean into the Gacha. For I haven't I haven't touched Genshin Impact in a while but I didn't need to pay money to pull some of the best characters in the game such as Zhongli or Raiden Shogun back in the day. As a matter of fact I'm willing to bet that you will need to spend less money on Destiny Rising then you need to do on Destiny 2 just to enjoy the game.

They mentioned rarity as well. I’m guessing “rolling” for weapon types are going to be another layer of loot boxes for the game. Like major loot-boxes for new characters, that can only hold certain archetypes of weapons, then rolling for weapons that are of a random archetype with a random rarity. Making it probably more egregious to get what you want without paying for it.
However they might have it tie to loot you can get in-game, though with the same mismatched archetypes of weapons you can’t actually equip without buying the associated hero. I assume it’ll be very low rarities with the higher tiers being connected with loot-boxes.

I can imagine it will be something like Marvel Strike Force or SWGoH where you have to do 'missions' to get so many character shards. So after your first chosen character, everything else will be RNG on the amount of shards you get per mission.
Addendum: I can also imagine that the supers would be behind upgrades in the same way too, so you have to farm for the upgrade materials to progress! Which will be in abundance till you need the last 2 levels, then it becomes 'Money, Money, Money'

They release, or update end game focused content and reward you for pulling the new character or having an existing character similar to them, it doesnt make anything impossible but it clearly incentivizes you to get the new thing

Samsung phones can use adapters to connect a mouse and keyboard to essentially turn your phone into a computer, and you can also connect most modern phones to a TV/monitor via either USB-HDMI adapter or WiFi.
And you can certainly get keyboard cases for iPad and other tablets, then hook up a mouse separately.
Or you could just use any controller that has Bluetooth connection or even USB.
Plenty of options out there.

if this is your 1st gacha game DO NOT PLAY IT (if genshin didnt pull you in then it will take another revolutionary game to do it but that will not come from an existing prominent company in the genre)
DO give it a try if you played D1 then maybe got left behind with console updates (PS3 to PC i missed rise of iron till warmind D2)
IF you want to spend money DO buy 20$ for x amount of currency per day for 30 days or the elite battle pass check value for cash
DO go free to play for twice the honeymoon phase (the 1st week or so will be riddled with dopamine fast progress and alot of rewards this will not last. and will cost you money to maintain) play PAST the honeymoon phase to learn if you like the game or you like the funny brain chemicals before investing time or godforbid money
accept imperfection, you are NOT going to 36 star that stage you are NOT going to 0 turn kill those enemies or be in top 100 PVP and the sooner you come to terms with that the happier you will be

As a person who works 65+ hours a week. It's hard to get the most out of Destiny. I used to play Destiny on my phone over gamepass until it was taken down (thanks sony). I play a lot of COD mobile to get my gaming fix while at work. if we can get a Destiny that I can play on my phone and it works, I'd be thrilled and I know many would be as well.
I don't understand why we need a new mobile destiny game. I'm running the vespers host on my phone right now using the Xbox app touch screen overlay. However it's definitely easier to use a controller and the Xbox controllers Bluetooth to the phone.
The issue will be when they give D2 incentives in Destiny: Rising. Like having seperate gear and new meta weapons you can unlock in D2 for playing or even paying for in Destiny: Rising.

The Backbone is the way to go for controller attachments, Ive been using Xbox remote play on my phone with the backbone since my daughter was born and it's still a great experience. Just like playing a scaled down Switch (but the Pixel 9 is more powerful lol)
everything he said is true about the gatcha stuff, the alphas got free preview of what's to come the more you play, and the 900% rebate stuff definitely made into alpha, only time will tell if make it to beta and full release but it aint lookin to good as a free to play game

The Backbone controller is pretty good. You can't change sensitivities so it hasn't been good for playing Destiny 2 on Nvidia GeForce, but works well for stuff like MLB The Show. I'm guessing that it would probably work better for something like this that is designed as a mobile game.
