Which is your favorite of Zack Snyder's movies?
WATCHMEN (2009)

MOS, BVS, ZSJL, 300, Legend of the Guardians, Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon. But I think my top fav is Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Definitely not Rebel Moon. Dawn of the Dead remake, which he didn't write, is his best.
Watchmen. Followed by Superman trilogy.
I loved the scene where, after Rey Palpatine collects the 7 Pokemon to defend the Water Tribe, the Spaceballs glass the entire planet from orbit. Truly a moment in cinema

You're right the movie did feel less of a plot and more of a show and tell presentation, which I understand, worldbuilding is fun and I would love to show off the details. But this is already a multimedia project, I feel like some of that enthusiasm could have been channeled into other types of media especially the comic and a world or technology encyclopedia

Narration clearly says "thousands of years" that particular family has ruled their imperium...that's alot of time to have alot of heirs, bastards, familial offshoots, etc. You're telling me they had ZERO inheritance plans in case the royal family got wiped out? Particularly, when the empire they lord over is clearly at war/made many enemies?? That doesn't make sense.
But my BIGGEST issue stemmed from the moment Noble got off his dreadnought. I THOUGHT he was targeting this small farming village bc he KNEW someone in their camp sold grain to the rebel forces & he was there to interrogate them for information.
I figured all his politeness was just giving them all a false sense of security & when he started asking more direct questions about their grain quantities/stores, I thought "OK here we go! He's gonna come out & say he already knew the rebel connection, etc"...
But nah, he literally just pulled up on this small nothing burger village bc he wanted to brutally force them to give him/his fleet grain...Wut??!
My small head-canon version has more plot/characterisation than the version we got.
I like Snyder, I'm a fan of his stuff...but he's clearly NOT a good writer. And the buddies he creates with (his co-writer) aren't any better. Too many compliant "yes-men" around. [Go read their interviews 🙃]
I could point out so many more narrative & character issues, but like I said that was the main one that really set the tone for me & it overshadowed everything else. I had no faith in the story going forward.
The Actress who played Kora is Sofia Boutella who has appeared in films such as _The Kingsmen, Hotel Artemis_ and _Atomic Blonde._ Apparently she’s a complete opposite of the characters she played in film being friendly and down to earth in person and before she became an actress she was a dancer for Nike Women's "Keep Up" campaign, which served as a major boost to her career and led to more work alongside stars like Madonna, and Rihanna. Sofia even credits her work with Madonna for helping her learn English.
I’m also excited that you and Nobu are reacting to _The Princess Bride_ but it is unfortunate and especially disappointing you won’t have Hayley and Stella involved in that reaction.😕😕
The main problem is this entire movie is just the first act of Seven Samurai. Not even the entire original movie. And yet we still get less character interaction between the ensemble in an entire movie that's just doing the first Act (most of them only get like 2 minutes of dialogue). Now they have to do part 2 which is just going to be the "train the villagers" sequence of Act 2. Also, there's only so many times a director can use the same Sepia/night blue colour scheme in your movies before it becomes boring.
Armed with a talented cast and occasionally okay visuals, Rebel Moon doesn't transcend any of its influences, making for a flagrant and pedestrian imitation of better material. This is just a tedious stroll through anything and everything we have seen done better in another sci-fi movie, with no emotional hook or reason to care. Snyder wastes time on stock characters, slow-motion battle sequences, and a lot of plot devices, and not in the good way.
Even the good actors in this cast are giving bad direction and writing; the most they can do is wooded expressions and bad dialogue. I didn't care about any of the characters; none of them had any development or anything.
This film obviously hints this was an R-rated film since there’s also an obvious lack of blood from action scenes; something has been held back for a Snyder Cut, an expected element to please the man’s fanboy cult.
Decent action scenes make Rebel Moon an okay-looking film (the effects were bad), with a paper-thin plot and underdeveloped characters that ultimately cause this film to fall disappointingly flat.
Snyder needs to stick into directing, he can’t write for shit. This is not good at all. It has plot holes, rushed characters, no emotions, the story is not good, bad acting, bad pacing, pointless slow motion, etc. It’s more of the same with Snyder, a few pretty visuals, horrible writing, and a lot of use of slow motion. Nothing new.
To me this movie felt very fast. The characters banded together really quickly and didn’t need much convincing. We got a little backstory on them but I didn’t feel like I got to emotionally invest into the story or any of the characters. But I’m hoping in part 2 we get more of that. I do love the visuals and the choreography in this movie and I think the main character is pretty cool.

There's a mention at the start of this video that this movie is an original project. I had to check the comments, and a couple other people DID already call out that there's a "Seven Samurai" feeling, and I want to back that up. Rebel Moon is an adaptation of "Seven Samurai." It's written right into the dialogue that these heroes "would have fought for nothing more than a sack of grain," which is a direct and deliberate reference to the classic movie "Seven Samurai" directed by Akira Kurosawa. I thought the classic was really great. And there have been a LOT of other adaptations over the years (ie Magnificent 7). For a well-done sci-fi spin on the classic, there's an anime series called "Samurai 7," which I thought was spectacular.
An original project only means that a movie isn’t a remake or adaptation of a book/comic. It doesn’t mean that the project itself stems from it’s creator’s originality.
53:03 Since you kinda touch on it, I'll add-on to my other comment: it feels hollow bc they made the mistake of doing "part one/part two"...but there was NO real resolution. No sense of completion to this part of the story. Which was another example of a stupid easy fix that was staring them in the face: Noble DIES at the end.
They could've still had that neuro-link moment w/ Balisarius, who's clearly the "real big bad" of the story, but Noble stays dead. He passes on information to Balisarius, but we still get a resolution to this first part of the story to have a "completion arc".

I rather wanted Netflix to release the r-rated version that is like the visuele novel not this shorter version.

Yes you are correct Eric Haraldsson was one of the more famous of the 20 sons of King Harald fairhair of Norway earned his nickname Bloodaxe after killing five of his brothers
He created this when he was 11 years old... and it feels like nothing changed from then. That was awful and blatantly derivative child like fan fiction. And it is clear the cast felt the same with the flat performances. He really needed another good writer to go over that script and completely revise it rather than himself.
One positive maybe, the village set looked nice, a little too pristine and manufactured though. Did anyone else wonder about that waterfall off that peak behind the village? Every time I saw it, it was like where the hell is all that water coming from???
Watch the trailer of them s movie again you see general Titus getting on his knees in full armor and his men getting killed off behind him wasn't in the movie... So I want the r-rated version.

I got scene where they were all gathered and talking about the ship and checked out. Too many full screen lens flares, blurry out of focus shots, and poorly implemented CGI backgrounds.
Like at 5:48, why the eff are people standing right next to one of the main chacters out of focus?? Props to anyone who managed to actually sit through the entire thing.
Based on the reviews I've seen from people, the movie is pretty bad. The story is all over the place, the characters forgettable, anything interesting could have been used to build and expand on the world is introduced and removed instantly ie the sentient robot, magic Princess. Watching this reaction makes me glad I didn't watch the whole thing.

I didn't like it at all, It seems like it was written by an amateur, and it upset me a lot because I love Sofia Boutella.
Rebel Moon was subpar and severely flawed…
- story pitch rejected by Lucasfilm
- the vagina wormhole that Motherworld spaceships travel through
- overloaded with exposition dumps
- s-l-o-w m-o-t-i-o-n ad nauseam
- blurry-style anamorphic and spherical scenes
- typical Hollywood fight choreography
- little-to-no character development
- generic and bland dialogue
- phoned-in performances
- 1-dimensional space-Nazi villains
- disjointed story structure
- no sense of urgency and lack of danger
- abrupt and wonky editing
- copied scenes from past Snyder movies
- cut or deleted scenes; continuity issues and inconsequential moments
- uneven pacing; a 2-part/4-hr+ movie that might've been better as a multi-episode series
- same universe as the decent Army of Thieves and terrible Army of the Dead
- strange casting choices (e.g., elderly Sir Anthony Hopkins voicing a pacifist battle droid, Charlie Hunnam's bad Northern Irish accent, Djimon Hounsou given little to do, Ray Fisher's brief and unnecessary cameo, Fra Fee "aged" to look twice as old just with a beard, Ed “the space-Nazi” Skrein, and Michiel “the farmer hero” Huisman; both played the same character Daario Naharis from Game of Thrones, who was Khaleesi’s lover)
It's a pale imitation of better movies, like Star Wars, Dune (2021), Lord of the Rings, One Piece (2023; Netflix), Seven Samurai, and Magnificent Seven (1960 & 2016), as well as not-so-great cult classics, like Flash Gordon (1980), Battle Beyond the Stars, Ice Pirates, and Krull.
What made it even worse is that Snyder admitted an extended version will be released and stated, "It's almost like a different movie."
I wonder what possessed Snyder to allow his movie to be butchered by Netflix after the whole Warner Brothers fiasco... Why Zack, Why! 🥺

He said the same thing about Justice League, and it turned out to be the same as the theatrical version, just excessively padded with slow-mo shots and yodeling.
What I noticed with Zack's movies is that they pose a lot of questions from the get-go but they also come around to answering them all, albeit slowly. Maybe it's just bad writing but I feel it builds the tension when you don't know what's going to happen till it's revealed. You need to be fully immersed to follow along and get the answers.
I rewatched for the third time and it becomes better and better after every rewatch. It's not a bad movie like some people like to paint it, it's not a masterpiece either tho

I absolutely loved this movie. So glad it's number one worldwide. Part 2 can't come soon enough. But I'm actually more excited for the extended version of this. Because I want more Jimmy. And more violence.
Too bad this channel is going away because the Zack Synder's Editors Cut Edition is supposedly more than an hour longer than the original and apparently a completely different movie that probably addresses everything you guys are bugged out about. But you guys are gone, sad face.

Exposition Moon. Instead of letting the actors flex their chops, and have meaningful conversations to build character and relationships, let's just cut to overstylized flashbacks. Everything is cookie cutter predictable. The sets look like garbage, someone ordered the Volume off of Wish. Took everything to not turn it off halfway through. Don't care about the "Snyder cut".
More like space communists, the general's uniform is exactly what come up if you look up "Russian Officer Uniform".
