And Kittridge back, and the nods to Max and the train, the fact that Ethan said again his code, Bravo Eco 1 1… The spirit of the first one is everywhere and I love it…
I feel like the in story the entity specifically planned for things to be similar to the what happened to Ethan in the first one. From kittridges involvement, to getting to the girl to late stabbed in the heart, to the train. It was like the entity was taunting him bringing back his most traumatic moment that set everything into motion for him and shaped who he’s become today.
I miss this channel already, I hope it won't be totally gone and you'll pop in every once in a while for a reaction even if it is very far and few in between. :)
Couple of things. Ethan wasn't going to kill Gabriel. But he wanted Gabriel to think he would to force him to make a deal with the only thing Ethan would want. The CIA guys interrupted it though. The mask thing Gabriel was wearing was oxygen and so the entity could talk to him and give him the info he would need for this stage of things. He works for the entity willingly. No brainwash. The call back with Kittridge and Alana him saying we let you operate as long as it works for us too. Is a call back to the end of movie 1 when Kittridge arrests Max on the train and she says "there must be something I have that you want." That was the start of the deal. Alana is Max's daughter we learned in an earlier movie and took over the family business. Maintained the same CIA deal.
57:23 This "Paris!" was so Haylee Atwell and not Vanessa Kirby, that's some skill to be so good at playing a different actor pretending to be you. The only other time I remember it being so accurate was Helena Bonham Carter playing Hermione pretending to be Bellatrix in Deathly Hallows.
LOL and I thought f*** noooooooooooooooooo - I found her so irritating I kept thinking shoot her now. If she's the major screen time person in part 2 and they're setting her up to take over, I'm done
I remember back in 2019 when Paramount, Skydance and Cruise himself announced back to back sequels:part 7 for 2021 and part 8 for 2022. The pandemic pushing back everything. Production on Part 1 wrapping up, the first trailer dropping and announcing the beginning of the end to the franchise was exciting. This was definitely worth the admission. Brilliant story, even better cast and plenty of shockers. These action sequences are all incredible and steady keep you on the edge. Well constructed for Cruise to do his thing and other actors getting into the action as well. Henry Czerny returning as Eugene Kittridge (ex-IMF director/now-director CIA director) was a nice addition and ever since M:I-1, he realizes that Hunt as an leader can still get things done. I did see this on IMAX and enjoyed every minute. This was one of the better films out among many failing blockbusters. The 8th film with a different title (not DR part 2) was hallway through filming when the actors' strike started. Now that it's over, they've pushed the release date to 2025. Another long wait (perhaps) and it'll be worth it like the last one. Loved the callbacks to the first film: 1. Bravo Echo One One is Ethan Hunt's Identification Code. First heard after he lost his team in Prague. 2. Sleight of hand with the keys pieces. Ethan did that with The NOC List. 3. Luther being referred to as 'The Net Ranger & 'Phineas Freak'. His known aliases as an tech genius prior to meeting Ethan and planning The NOC List heist.
The way the brakes on the train cars work is realistic. The water pressure in the hydraulic lines on the couplers keeps the brakes open. When the lines disconnected the brakes clamped shut because the water line broke.
The entity sunk itself so that it could be nice and safe resting on the bottom of the arctic sea with no way to get to it. It was in a sealed room so as the rest of the sun flooded it was safe. From there it could do whatever it wants for as long as the nuclear power on the submarine lasts (20 years-ish).
45:00 The fact that Ethan turned to Zola and directly asked him to shoot Gabriel there, and that Zola actually went for his gun before stopping himself, is just one of those tiny beautiful details that paint characters in all the different shades. Love it.
I have a theory. Ethan before IMF was a thief. His slight of hand in the first movie and here as well kinda makes me think that way. Hence, Grace reminds him of his past, maybe that's why he thought to give her a choice because she was clearly flagged as a wanted person and there was no escape.
This has a very different tone.. a lot more gravitas to it. Weight. They wrote this before the pandemic. Before AI took off in 2023. So the movie suddenly hits extremely hard because we are at the beginning of having to worry about this. It was our AI. They snuck it onto the sub. It began going rogue and somehow ended up merging with a self learning AI in the Saudi Defense system. That's when it became self aware. It doesn't know the future it just analyzes all the possible branches and uses what it knows about everyone from hacking all of social media every intelligence agency on the planet etc to assign probabilities. If it works out it knows ot was right. If it gets it wrong it updates itself to better predict. And at every branch it updates all new future probabilities. That's why it is so damn hard to beat. And it can do it in near real-time. The entity wants everyone trying to control it because it can play them against one another until it controls everything. Only Ethan threatens it. And Ethan gets it. It's afraid. Kittridge is an amazing character. He knows and condones Ethan killing the AI. He just can't help and has to play the roll of sending the government after him. He's a good guy. To the point where the IMF agents all trust him. May not understand but they all accepted the choice when presented with it. And they keep doing the job because they want to. That doesn't happen without a degree of trust. The movie is really good. And they pulled out all the stops even for an M:I movie. Building a real train. They drove the locomotive off a bit of track they build into a quarry in England. Then did the gorge and river and all that digital later. The train itself was 100% real. The fight on top real while moving at speed. The train cars keep falling because as one goes it pulls the next over the brink and the bridge keeps crumbling out from under them u til that one goes too. Dragging the next one.
ITS GREAT HOW MUCH OF THESE MOVIE TIE INTO THE OLD TV SERIES. THE IMF HAS ALWAYS BEEN KINDA ROGUE AGENCY, THEY REPORT DIRECT TO TE PRESIDENT UNTIL THAT EPISODE WHERE THEY LEARNED THE PRESIDENT WAS PART OF THE SYNDICATE.
My favourite book is called The chrysalids by John Wyndham first published in 1955 , i read the book at a early age amongst others , The book was my bible without a god or gods as they do not exist , But this book gave me something that i carry all the time .
I think I worked out why this one didn't hit as hard. The introduction of a new backstory of Ethan, the introduction of the new girl as a clear replacement of the old one. Fallout had the previous movies to build up the relationships. In this one, so much new story is added, plus also reconnecting to the far older ones with characters like Kittridge and the broker's daughter. I think the next instalment will benefit from the foundation laid here.
Ethan: I swear to you that your life will always be more important to me than my own. A.I.: hey, maybe that's the guy who wont kill me but I have to give him plausible deniability and maybe the ability to disappear himself after he makes everyone think I'm erased.
This movie was awesome . Mission impossible the final reckoning is coming out may 2025 from the trailer it look dope . I’m so hyped for the second one it’s going to be fire 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥💣
There are a few things that strikes me odd with this film. Ethan Hunt has always been portrayed as this overconfident, cheeky character in all Mission Impossible movies. Even in the later ones where they taken a more "realistic" approach to things compared to the first movies. But in this one Ethan is showing far more self-doubt, making him aggetated at times, like when he is stuck on-top of the mountain and don't grasp how he is supposed to reach the train. Only for him to turn it around and do exact what Ethan Hunt would normally do in these situations in every other Mission Impossible movie. I just don't get why he has suddenly, after all these years, after all these movies and crazy plots, started to doubt himself in this way? Why wouldn't he just run the bike off the mountain like he ended up doing, just without this aggregated moment of self-doubt beforehand? I suppose the movie is trying to make it out that everything is starting to get to Ethen as things become more personal. But he has been through extremely personal things in several movies and plots already. I just don't follow or understand why he is showing all this self-doubt now all of a sudden. I don't understand why Ilsa would show up to challenge Gabriel with a sword? She's been portrayed as a assassin, using a lot of long range utility, sniping off people left and right. Gabriel is pretty much defenseless at the bridge. Surely she could have ambushed him in some way? Why would she enter into melee combat against a physically more capable person with history from the IMF? The odds are not stacking in her favour at all.
there's a few things about this film that don't make sense like on the train when they point a gun at hayley atwell and demand the key. you see her holding the key in her hand why not just shoot and kill? then after she follows their demands the guy tells the other guy to kill her. just makes no sense.
