The cleaning part is an homage to the sorcerer's apprentice in the movie Fantasia where Mickey takes his master's hat and does the same thing and it of course goes crazy. It also has that iconic scene where it looks like Mickey's doing waterbending making their water fly up in the air

This one of my favorite Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer films and I just love everything about it from the action, humor and the casting of Nicholas Cage, Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina. Easily one of Disney’s most under appreciated live-action films.
I’m still saddened that this film and _Prince of Persia_ (another Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer film) underperformed at the box office cause it would’ve been an awesome film franchise especially the cliff hanger ending when a mysterious hand (likely Horvath) grabbed Horvath’s hat at the shop in the post credit scene.

  • @NovusIgnis
    @NovusIgnis 5 місяців тому +14

Fun fact, while the original inspiration for the movie was the Fantasia sequence "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" featuring Yen Sid and Mickey, the movie was more directly inspired by the Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher. Nic Cage is a maaaaassive fan of the novels and he takes a lot of inspiration from them in terms of how magic works as well as the general wardrobe and appearance of Balthasar. In the novels, Harry Dresden is well known for his signature duster and hat, although he only wears the hats in the novel covers and is adamant about not wearing hats in the books themselves. It's a bit of a running joke through the series.

So the reason behind these nods to Fantasia was that Nicolas Cage is actually a huge fan of the movie and always wanted to do some thing that was related to it. That's why the title of the movie is called the Sorcerers Apprentice, it's also a nod to that one specific scene with Mickey.

It’s worth noting that the reaction of _The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,_ the Animator Reacts of _Prince of Egypt,_ the boys reaction to _King Arthur: Legend of the Sword_ and the Girls (Hayley and Stella) _Before_ trilogy _(Before Sunrise, Sunset_ and _Midnight)_ reactions were recorded 1-2 weeks in advance (November 19-November 30) before James dropped the December 6th bombshell video of the White Noise channel ending, which resulted those reactions to be not be available on UA-cam and Patreon for 2-4 weeks. And since they resumed uploading videos again since December 23 following a 10-11 day break, they are releasing the remaining unreleased reactions they did prior to James December 6th announcement video and then they will release the final reactions post-December 6th and more further details on the future of what comes next for Hayley, Stella and Nobu after White Noise Ends in January.
Also are Hayley and Stella in this reaction?!? Because the thumbnail suggests they aren’t in the reaction similar to the _Tron: Legacy_ and _Oblivion_ reactions where Hayley and Stella are absent and it’s only just James and Nobu doing the reactions.

Toby Kebbell who played Drake Stone in the film was in several films that you’ve previously reacted to on the channel, he was Koba in _Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,_ Durotan in _Warcraft,_ Jack Chapman in _Kong: Skull Island_ and Doctor Doom in the critically panned 2015 _Fantastic Four_ film. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Toby Kebbell and Alfred Molina who played Horvath worked and appeared in the same movie together cause both of them were in _Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time_ another Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer film which came out two months earlier before _The Sorcerers’ Apprentice_ and also underperformed at the box office. In that film, Toby played Prince Garsiv and Alfred played Sheik Amar who was the Ostrich handler.
Finally, the actress who played Morgan Le Fay is Alice Krige who played the Borg Queen in the film _Star Trek: First Contact_ and reprised the role in _Star Trek: Voyager,_ the animated _Star Trek: Lower Decks_ and _Star Trek: Picard._ She also was the cult leader Christabella LaRoache in the 2006 _Silent Hill_ movie.

I don’t get why that movie is not more popular: great actors chemistry, good story (and we can overlook some mistakes), a lot of creative actions sequences, and overall a good time! I think some adults take some things way to seriously, just pointing out flaws and don’t let it just be an enjoyable movie…
Anyway I still like this one 😊

...anyway except for when theyre throwing lightning around p much all of these effects are practical - Alfred Molina's hand was set on fire for that that scene. the floating sword and mops are dudes in green suits. the merlin circle was actual grooves in the ground with special powders to get the desired flame color

I just watched your reaction on both “war of worlds” and “independence day”, as a kid I always clumped those up with three other movies that my parents let me watch, “day after tomorrow”, “Dante’s peak” and “the core”. I would therefore love watching you react to those as well, they are also in the catastrophe genre but all for a bit of a different reason. Happy holidays!

Mickey hat makes sense because that hat was from a short called the sorcerers apprentice where mickey wused the sorcerers magic to do his work cleaning until it all got out of hand and he's caught by the sorcerer saving him at the end. this movie is basically what if we redo that scene live action but actually build a plot around it.

@White Noise Reacts, hey Nobu& James- you would certainly also Nicholas Cage from film like,"The Rock ,with Sean Connery" by Jerry Bruckheimmer that did such other movie( Con-Air) with Nick Cage, too?.Nick Cage also was in well known 80's film,"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"(1982) where he goes by the name back then,Nick Coppola?.

37:44 it's not really like Beauty and the Beast, but more like homage to Disney's Fantasia. There was a part called Sorcerer's Apprentice, where Mikey did the same thing with brooms.

As a side note however….that scene in the bathroom where Horvath has Dave against the wall and says “You’d be no better than the rest of us,” followed by Dave giving him a Look…that’s one of the most heartbreaking and chilling moments I’ve ever seen in film. I don’t know how to describe how it is, exactly, but it’s like a splash of ice water to the soul every time-wildly surprising in this kind of movie.

I rewatched this movie recently and honestly it still holds up for me. I miss the Jerry Bruckheimer era of Disney, we got some really fun movies out of it (this, Pirates, National Treasure, etc.). Personally I think the concept of the magic would've been a great basis for a TV show
Another surprisingly fun yet underrated take on King Arthur/Merlin/Morgana story is The Kid Who Would Be King, Andy Serkis' son plays the lead and Patrick Stewart plays old Merlin. It does some interesting things with the Merlin lore including how he ages

The multiple mops cleaning up & use of music are a reference to the inspiration for this movie, the sequence titled The Magician's Apprentice in Disney's original animation Fantasia.
Unfortunately they never made a sequel to this live action movie even though the end did leave it open for one. 😢

Mythological speaking, Merlin himself wasn't an incubus, but he was fathered by one. Which is how witches & warlocks come to be. What, evidently, made Merlin different was that he was baptized at birth & thus the devil no longer had a hold on him. This allowed him to use his abilities for good. At least, from what I remember.
Though, in the Gargoyles universe, he was instead fathered by Oberon, king of the fae.
