A TV show might've been better, but it's also just the writing that is kind of horrible. Just feels like they had a bunch of "hey, this is kind of cool"-ideas and no idea how to set any of them up properly or even connect them in a meaningful way at all. Almost none of the characters feel like they have a connection to each other by the end of the movie, which is pretty much only used to bring these characters together. None of the "impactful" scenes work, because they are never set up. Only changing the structure of how this was told really wouldn't change all of that.
Entire movie was the Rick and Morty “you son of a bitch, I’m in!” Meme.
None of the main characters had any interaction between each other. Just got recruited and had to wait till the climax. A lot seemed to be missing from this film.
The actual movie is almost 4 hours long. The Snyder cut will have everything you claim is missing.

Theirs going to be 2+ hours in the Snyder cut version so theirs going to be a lot of interactions between the characters. But people still going to complain and say “ why is it so long when they were just literally complaining about no interactions between the characters, like choose one people 😂 rather it be longer and get what you want or a short movie with no interactions

I really didn't give a shit about most of the characters. The most compelling character was the robot. Also the whole "sacrifice" scene by Ray Fisher just fell flat. Also the action was by the number and generic. I guess the 2nd part will at least be a tad bit more exicting, well at least I hope so. Also Charlie Hunam with a terrible Irish accent was certainly a choice.

A gun thing I noticed, but the actor who plays Atticus and the actor who plays Gunnar both played the same character (Daario Naharis) on Game of Thrones.
The recruitment of the general was the most half ass thing ever, she gives a limp speech telling him to get revenge and he suddenly stands up dramatic as if he was given this eye opening revelation. Fun fact, he doesn’t speak for 35 minutes after this scene
Same could be said for any recruitment speech given by Nick Fury. People like you that nitpick are useless.
Except we saw Coulson’s sacrifice plus Fury’s speech showed his duplicitous nature.
Even more fun fact, he's the general that will be leading the army in part 2. That's why they recruited him. To be a general. You know, cuz he's a general. It wasn't his job to make the pitch to the other rebels. It's his job to be the general and lead the army in part 2. Do you get it yet or do I have to explain it slower?
There's a reason we have an R rated cut with 1 hr extra. Bet you'd have loved Marvel movie if it was done the same way. Stop fuckin complaining.

so basically zack snider is a horrible film maker that hasn't made a decent movie in a decade and now needs 4 hours to tell you a story that any other film maker with his fallowing could do 1 1/2 hours

There are plenty of decent/good actors in this. It's easy to look at a movie and talk about bad acting but keep in mind that writing and directing will effect this as well. Seeing how terribly written this mess of a film was I wouldn't put most of the blame on the actors.
They're all actually great actors, they were just not given much to work with xD
Kind of wild that both actors who played Daario Naharis in Game of thrones was in this and on opposite sides of the conflict. Shame they didn’t get to fight. Still, Francis from Deadpool met a good end but bringing him back felt forced and unnecessary.
Probably had no intention to kill him off. Only served to make the protagonist think they've won
Rebel Moon is basically " Seven Samurai" / "The Magnificent Seven" in space. Also you can reference " Battle Beyond The Stars" with George Peppard. Thanks again for your reaction Cine Pals!
Yeah, the moment he started wanting all of the supplies, I thought Bug’s Life. Then they said they need to go out and find help, The Magnificent Seven/ Samurai (same story as Bug’s Life). Coworker was saying Star Wars. Can see it so far. And Kora’s backstory is kinda like a certain MCU character.
It's the other way around, the reference point is usually the oldest or the first who brought the story to life. I don't think Bugs life has been made before 1954's Seven Samurai. The craziest about the original movie is that despite being 3 hours long, in black and white it still holds up to this day. @@jinxie712

True, in the context of what they were discussing, the villain probably isn't enhanced to super human levels, strength and durability wise. Zack will never learn or take advice as his ego won't allow him. He continues to make the same mistake over and over as he seems to believe his way is the only way. The film was generic and typical Snyder style over substance.
I really liked Part One. Sure, it's a bit derivative of plenty of stuff we've seen already, but what isn't these days? Visually cool, Sophia Boutella is always a win and I like the world building.
Not just Djimon was wasted. The soldier that stood up for the girl and fought his ex-squad for her should have been part of the team the whole way. He's the Finn of this story and he disappears after the barn fight.

@@sorinalexandroiu I believe they called him private Aris. I looked it up and I do believe he is in the part 2 because there’s a photo of him that we haven’t seen in this movie. I definitely get where your coming from and I do think this movie had problems with setting up and establishing the characters. I think he was definitely more interesting than some of the other members. We at least got to bond with him more. Idk.
Fun fact. We had both Darios in one movie. I found the setting interesting, but EVERYTHING else was not good.
I wish this movie was about the robot from the beginning. That's the only character i had a connection with lol.
It was totally hitting with me and I can't wait for Part 2 to come out because I enjoyed virtually all of the movie.
The only thing I thought could've been different was the slow motion in the part of the main character's backstory where she was charging into battle firing her gun and planting the flag. I felt like there wasn't a need for that there and it felt off to me, but other than that perfect watch.
I wish that the Rebel leader character could've continued on, but I don't remember seeing a body. You know what that means...if you don't see them fully meet their end they can still come back. Also I was getting a Marvel Comics Bishop and Shard(with dark hair and braids) vibe from the look of Ray Fisher and Cleopatra Coleman's characters.
You two are right about it would've been better as a TV series for the Part 1 and then do a feature length movie for part 2. Doing that would allow for each character to get a completely developed backstory in the episode they're introduced in for you to bond more with them. That would also allow for a Season 2 in the series and maybe another movie setup. At least that's what I would do if I was going to put my own character creations into live action, as well as , animation projects. If they made a game out of it I'd definitely be interested in checking it out.
BTW: I actually had fun watching Sucker Punch, but I mainly saw it because Emily Browning is so cute and I enjoyed the fight scenes. I've watched it 2 times, once in 2012 and then in 2017. Dang, I'm a year overdue to watch it again. I like watching it every 5 years so I can forget enough of it that way it's almost like watching it for the first time. Thanks for reminding me by mentioning it Jaby. I'm going to watch it again today.😊

If you found the spiderlady familiar, that's because she was played by Jena Malone, known from Donnie Darko, Hunger Games, and Sucker Punch
The only problem with this film is that some scenes were cut off or scenes that are missing, so I'm waiting for the 3 hr r rated extended cut.
But he doesn't have Joss Whedon to blame it on this time.

Despite the almost obvious 'derivations' from earlier films, I did enjoy this movie on the whole and look forward to the next part. Charlie Hunnam's character was a surprise though... I couldn't predict it despite his long dialogue about 'honor'.
I hope we still get to see Cleopatra (Devra Bloodaxe) in the next part she is really good looking 😊
The budget was 160 for both parts as far as I’m aware… with 83mil tagged for the first movie. The second was filmed back to back and is out in April 24. Before that we will see the extended cut… I’m hoping that will fill some of the holes as the film was lacking somewhat… as we all are aware.
I too was filled with hope and wanted to like this movie and I too liked the first act but was disappointed that it dropped into set piece after set piece and also failed to surprise me and find connection with the characters.
Sigh… let’s see what part two gives us. Personally I preferred “The Creator” as the surprising sci fi film of the year… it too has its flaws but the effects, world building, efforts in story building and philosophy felt very cinematic and intrigued me far more then this damp squib
As far as I've heard, we probably won't get a director's cut until after Part 2 comes out because they are worried it will cut into profits if people really like the director's cut so much that they decide only to watch the director cut versions and not the PG13 versions. They are going to wring as much viewership out of the PG13 versions as possible before showing the director's cuts. And as each movie has it's own director cut, it makes sense from a business perspective to hold off as much as possible on showing it.

If they bring out a 13 version then follow up with what we actually want to see… maybe this could be something that studios take into consideration and plan accordingly, instead of chopping the actual film down to such an extent that it feels like half of the film was missing

Yes, I think that seed for part 2 was planted especially since JIMMI defied and saved Sam from the Motherworld Command Soldier.
I thought that at first... that she could have escaped the massacre of the royals. Then, I thought that maybe the princess was not the only one who had that 'gift'. And the robot (Sir Hopkins's voice) somehow realized that. We will know in the next movie, I guess.
Hunnam is English, but I heard he lost his accent as a result of doing an American accent in Sons of Anarchy for so long.

A slow start but I’m here for the ride! I really liked Tarak’s scenes the best! I’ve been looking forward to watching those parts, thought they were cool. He reminds me of a certain character from the Throne of Glass books (Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas)

Kora: (Worked for the Empire, was high in the ranks, can fight.) = This was Mara Jade
(From there it seems):
Belisarius: Darth Vader
Nemesis: Was ordinally just Mara Jade revealing she had lightsabers
General Titus: Either Mace Windu or changed entirely from an intended Talon Karrde
Atticus Noble: Galen Marek aka Starkiller
Some of the complaints I have seen for this movie is that the Characters seem bland. But if it was written so that characters were revealed that were known, it may have been designed to not need to explain who some of them were.
What amuses me is that the complaints about this movie were the same as Star Wars -- a ripoff of samurai movies, westerns, Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon, Metropolis (C-3PO), and so on and so forth. Sometimes inspiration is blatant, and that's okay.
For quite some time I thought Sofia Boutella was in her 20s, turns out she's 41 🤯

Ray Fisher is such an underrated and talented actor. I wish his career took off after justice League. Especially after knowing what he went through during those joss Whedon reshoots.
He was such a revelation in Zack Snyder's Justice League, it made the reshoots totally unnecessary and Whedon a no-talent, narcissistic weasel. I wish Ray was a big name and had his solo Cyborg film out by now, but I'm glad Whedon is on Hollywood's "don't give this shit work" list.

This reminds me of Love Death + Robots in a way, where it's a bunch of ideas and proofs of concept, but Snyder took that and made it into a movie. Which makes everything disconnected and not really necessary to convey the story he's trying to tell. It's like he took his sketchbook, and made it a movie.

Was excited for this, started well, felt like it was building, hated the ending. I know it’s part 1 but just felt underwhelming & you’re right was bit lazy feeling, but still looking forward to part 2, I’ll give it time.

Looking at the review, the flaws make sense and I agree but at the time, I was really swept up by everything, and I had an alright time watching it. I cant exactly phrase why i liked it tho. I guess, I am satisfied by what the movie had in it and that the exposition wasn't heavy for me. And Im not a huge snyderfan in general. But I still came out enjoying it. could it be good sound quality that helped me immerse into the world more?
Yeah, when I first watched it the day it came out. I could tell there were some scenes missing just to cut down the timeframe. Even though the movie isn't perfect, it isn't bad as people say. After all, there's the Snyder Cut, and I do love the ships designs. Even that droid that the bounty hunters use to contain and transport people. Plus I do like the slow motion actions.
This movie was a 7/10 for me.

Contrary to popular opinion, I really enjoyed this film. Bit hand-wavy (and blatantly got 'part 1 fever', where they just set stuff up and dump exposition) at times, but I'm still very interested to see what part 2 is gonna bring in 2024! 😁
This movie was 2 hr 15 mins, which is not exactly short. Netflix had Scorsese’s The Irishman run about 3.5 hours. Why not release the full cut? In any event, the dialog in this movie is just not very good. I doubt another hour or so will fix that issue.

The rapist or prominent rapist is South African, accent and all, which makes me think that the timeline isnt too far off in the future seeing that accents are still heavy and prominent.

LOTR was over 9hrs & made for cinema & DVD, of course it was more detailed. This is made for TV, only 2 parts & has been hacked to death. Besides, if youve ever played an RPG game, this is feels like a game movie

A lot happened too fast and it was literally impossible to connect to the main protagonists. Character developing is lacking for sure but I hope part 2 is better.

I don't understand hate for this movie, this was meant to be 4 hours long and first half was meant to introduce the characters. Imagine if Snydercut got split in half and you got to watch only the first part of it. the opening and world building is absolutely phenomenal. Kora (or Cora i guess?) Is the best part of the movie and her character is nicely introduced her motivations are understandable. The general isn't a cliche evil villain who kills everyone in the first sight hell he was nice until the leader of the village tried to lie to him. Other characters felt a bit too rushed but robot that villager and Kora are well developed.

Snyder's films are not meant for impatient minds.

I fell asleep 2 times during this movie. I had to play it at 1.5x speed to get through without falling asleep. I'm not shaming the entire movie. I'm just saying the pacing could have been better.
React to Battle Beyond The Stars if you want to see a better version
This was not only a dense movie, it practically ripped off everything from Star Wars to Warhammer. Those cheesy sci-fi films from the 80's-90's like Battle beyond the Stars also was sprinkled into this crap.😂😂😂😂
this film suffers mostly from being a shorter cut of the actual film. I feel like the best has been left in the EXTENDED CUT. I feel like because you didn't mention it that maybe you weren't aware that this is a watered down version of the film that an that Zach Snyder has already announced the extended cut which is ultimately the version that he wanted.
Only good part about this movie is the farmer guy was hot. Also Anthony Hopkins robots was pretty cool.
